I have been wanting to try Meet Fresh for a while although just never gotten around to going. I went on Valentine's day with my mom and her aunts. The desserts offered here reminded me a lot of Vietnamese desserts so I was very excited to have this for dessert.
Walking in, I was a bit confused. Just take your time and read everything --There were lots of signs up and plexiglass. The items shown on the menu screen at the top went by too fast to make a decision. They have QR codes if you want to scan that, and a kiosk to look through and make the order (which to be honest is good for people that have anxiety with speaking/ or are just shy in general). And there is also a set menu on the wall as you walk in, it is on the left side. It glows, so you won't miss it.
We just finished eating a large dinner, but really wanted to have dessert. There were 4 of us so we figured let's all get what we are interested in and share it. The ending price was a bit high, nearly $10 per dessert. But if you're really thinking about it...each item is made fresh to order! There are plenty of toppings within one bowl and the people that were in the kitchen were spot on with the flavor profiles of these bowls.
We ordered a total of 4 items:
1 original egg waffle - this came out hot and so delectably fluffy with just the right amount of chew to it. It came out folded into a cup, but the weight of the egg waffle was too much and it nearly landed into one of the desserts!
1 cold coco sago C - I highly remember choosing cold sago C, but when it came out it had crushed almonds on top and the flavor of the soup was more almond-based than coconut. So I was confused about it, but at the same time didn't dwell too much about it because I didn't fully read the description of what came in it before ordering. I dunno what happened, but apparently on the menu there is an almond soup which I believe is what I got! The toppings were: rice balls, taro balls (mini Q), melon jelly, sago, and crushed almonds. Personally, I liked this a lot -- just would have preferred it wayyy more without the almonds and almond flavor to it. Because it had an undertone of jasmine or some floral notes.
1 icy grass jelly #C - this was my great aunt's choice (she has been here before so she knows what's good!) This was grass jelly, grass jelly shaved ice, melon jelly, rice balls, and boba. I found this to be soo refreshing and delicious. It had just the perfect amount of sweetness to it and the grass jelly was silky and not crunchy which I loved. It reminded me of the canned grass jelly drink that I'd get from the Vietnamese market. The mini boba was a perfect addition as well, it added a great texture to the dessert. A little chew and since they were mini -- they allowed the grass jelly to be the star of the show. The melon jelly was pretty tasty as well. The rice balls were interesting, but I found them to be a funky choice for this particular dessert. Although, it was all in all very yummy.
1 tofu pudding with taro chunks, 25% sweetness. Ok, this one just wasn't for me. It wasn't sweet enough for me. And I am used to having tofu pudding with gingery syrup ( a Vietnamese dessert! And yes, I know that Meet Fresh is not a Vietnamese dessert spot but a Taiwanese dessert spot), therefore trying this dessert -- there was no oomph and deliciousness for me. -- more on this: my great aunt ordered this and enjoyed it. She loved the large fresh taro chunks. And the tofu pudding was very smooth, the spoon cut through it very well.
I'd rate the bowls as #1 grass jelly, #2 coco sago blend, and #3 tofu pudding with taro.
The interior of this dessert place was very bright and clean. I loved how spacious it was and how organized as well. The music wasn't too loud...which was really nice.
On our receipts was an order number which they would call out on a microphone and they also had a screen on the wall saying the progress and time in which each order was coming up.
The workers were quiet and kept to themselves, but they were respectful and attentive if you came to the bar area and asked for extra spoons or bowls.
I don't know why the ratings are so low for this place, but I'd say this place is a must-try! There are so many items on the menu and if you don't like something you can custom-make your order! Sometimes you can even choose the sweetness level. And they also have drinks... that I def will be trying in the future! This spot is great for dates, and hanging out with friends, and family.
