We made a reservation here after seeing this place listed in the Michelin Guide, since we generally enjoy trying higher end spots like this. Overall, while there were parts of the meal we enjoyed, this isn’t a place we’d recommend for a typical lunch or dinner. That said, if you’re a fan of fancy cheeses and want to sample a variety, it can still be worth a stop.
The location is quite nice, overlooking the park and river, though it isn’t immediately obvious and you do need to know where you’re going. Inside, the restaurant feels upscale and modern, with a very sleek look and lots of white throughout the space, but some of it was a little scuffed.
The service was decent and there were plenty of servers on the floor, and everyone we interacted with was friendly. Some were more attentive than others.
We ordered a glass of wine, the mixed starters, the schnitzel, and a cheese plate. The wine was excellent. It was crisp and very enjoyable.
The mixed starters included veal sweetbreads with salad, grilled sturgeon, and a ravioli. The veal was tender, but the breading lacked seasoning. The accompanying endive salad was pretty good, even though we’re not usually endive fans. The grilled sturgeon was cooked well and served in a nice sauce, though it was very red pepper forward, which is something to be aware of. The ravioli was the standout of the three. It was flavorful and served in a really nice sauce.
The schnitzel, unfortunately, was a disappointment. While the meat itself was cooked well, the breading didn’t adhere properly and wasn’t very crispy. We had noticeably better schnitzel elsewhere in Vienna. The potato salad that came with it, however, was decent. It is more of a traditional salad with potatoes mixed in. It was nicely dressed and flavorful.
We also ordered the goat, sheep, and cow cheese plate. Overall, it was good, and we enjoyed most of the cheeses. The blue cheese was a bit too strong for our taste, but the plate was well rounded and served with bread and excellent quince jam, which really elevated the experience.
In the end, the cheeses and the ravioli were highlights, but beyond that, the food didn’t quite justify the price or the Michelin hype for us. Worth considering if cheese is your main focus, but otherwise there are better value options in Vienna.
