Google
Visiting from Florida and shopping at Meijer for the first time in many many many years I was disappointed to see that they were perfectly happy to let people wait in a long line to ring up their own stuff and only open a few of the many available checkout lanes that would be staffed by cashiers. As you can see in the photo the self checkout queue looked like people lining up for a ride at Disney World. Shame on you Meijer! You really are making Walmart look good

Google
The Eight Mile location in Detroit is great. I needed some prices verified and when the gentleman I asked couldn't help me, he pointed to the store manager and said she would be able to help me. And help me she did. She verified the 3 items I needed help with. The cashier was friendly. In fact I have never found a crabby employee at that location.

Google
It's a smidge smaller with a bit less food variety than the other Meijers in the area, but it's perfectly good and still has more variety (and better prices) than smaller local grocery stores. They need to reopen the fitting rooms. If I wanted to buy clothes without trying them on, I'd shop online. The employee who was working near the former fitting rooms looked shocked when I handed her the items I wanted to try on saying I didn't want to buy without trying on first. The sign says it's because of covid but come on, nobody has restrictions anymore. Just pay well enough that you can have the staff to run the rooms.

Google
Gotta love the Tesla Supercharger! Looks like they are getting a set of level 4 chargers ready! How can they possibly charge even faster?!?!

Amanda Kilroe

Google
Ariana was really helpful today. I hope this positive review finds it way to her. I had pickup service and she waited late to make sure I got my order. What service! Really appreciate the pickup option- saves a ton of time and is free if you order over a certain amount.

Google
Just had an awful experience at this location, today. One of their managers felt it was appropriate to scream in a customers face when asked to help a senior citizen who'd been waiting a long time. This location is usually run well. NOT ANYMORE APPARENTLY.

Sam Fisher

Google
Would you expect this place to be anything other than absolutely filthy, lacking countless items that properly managed stores carry, with multiple expired items to be found on every single trip made, complete with a load of rude, do-nothing employees? To top that off, you'll also have people begging you for money on every visit, money which is totally " for the bus " or " for baby food " or whatever story their pipe writes for them. You can pretend that you wouldn't, but you would be lying. Just go to royal oak and avoid the experience altogether.

Gigi

Google
You have the worst leadership Anetha D. and employees but Claudine was very very rude at this location. They having side conversations with customers about fraud going with Claudine at customer service and before that anetha d on the phone talking as lines get longer and longer than Claudine was very rude when I asked for corp# and the store manager name but she laughed and then walked to anetha d talking about me lol I wasn’t there then didn’t give her name so I had to look on the receipt. This is why this is the worst location rude employees and leadership which is why no one wants to shop in person but with 3party because rude customer service with dirty store

Yelp
I need to give a Ginormous Shout out to Cheryl (sp?), Customer Satisfaction Manager tonight. She changed a really unpleasant and awkward experience into a 5***** Star moment. I want to acknowledge her professionalism, her persistence and her dedication to being a brand Ambassador of Meijer. She is a Five Star Manager! Thank you for re-approaching me and just being awesome.

Yelp
This location has staff that seem to be miserable AF. Not a greeting. Not a smile. Serving attitude all through service. This is especially true for the deli counter and checkout cashiers. Why?!? If you don't like customer service, go pick up trash or something. I don't think I will ever go the this 8 Mile Detroit location EVER AGAIN.

Yelp
Terribly run. At least twice in 2024 the POS machines have been offline, only at this Meijer. So even if you had cash, you couldn't purchase anything. Multiple people (including myself) have gotten their credit card information stolen here, and then the store allows the transactions to go through! Chase Bank confirmed that Chase blocked a transaction (declined the charge) and then Meijer ran it through again. With no ID for the scammer, because obviously it was my own card. The ice bag freezers don't ever work, so there's rarely any ice. The can returns are usually out of order, so good luck returning cans. The store is always out of stock of the weirdest and most basic things: cereal, tissue boxes, detergent, etc. Just seems like the entire store is not well run at all.

Yelp
Only this Meijer, in all of its infinite wisdom, would close down the self-checkout lanes 30 minutes before closing and then herd the scores of people still shopping into four checkout lanes. Obviously you want your customers to take 40 minutes to check out!

Keith R.

Yelp
Broken toilets, all sinks inoperative...place is generally a mess Plan extra time if you are buying something because they are always understaffered with cashiers. But hey...I'm sure the shareholders are doing great

R W.

Yelp
every single time we shop at the Meijer on 8 mile and Woodward, in Detroit, Michigan, there are no cashiers or people to help. it was horrible in there on Saturday, February 15. Lines to use the self checkout were wrapped around aisles.

MsKmw15 W.

Yelp
Livonia and Westland stores are great stores to shop at and I love Meijers!! Staff is friendly, I've only had maybe two returns, (because hubby bought the wrong item) easy returns, money given back as how it was purchased. These are the two I shop at and I am never dissatisfied with product, availability or staff.

Yelp
Most things are relative and all about an individual's perspective, right? I read a few reviews after stopping at this Meijer this morning, in doing so I was led to chime in. I have visited this Meijer on several occasions. The store has always been clean and fully stocked. My visit this morning was to shop for holiday cards for my board members. I had looked at several other places, wasting time and gas. Meijer had just the selection I needed. I also picked up a bottle of wine on sale. I noticed that several brands were on sale and the selection was pretty decent for a grocer. The bakery was filled with tasty treats from donuts to cakes to holiday cookies. I grabbed a container of donuts and was on my way. At the cash register area, I found several open isles along with several self-checkout bays. I was assisted by staff twice as I checked out. Both ladies greeted me warmly and assisted me quickly. I was in and out in no time. I will remember to patronize this location more often.

Yelp
I don't love everything about this Meijer, but I have to say, the staff is usually amazing. Today, I was able to make a return easily without a receipt. When I went to check out, after dealing with a cart shortage, my items were all over the place in random bags. An employee named Sup C. wasn't annoyed at all and asked questions to make sure she was using the correct bags and organizing my items in a useful way. I was so appreciative of her. Hard to explain, but my day there just was not going right, and she made it a lot better :) This Meijer is also well-stocked and organized.

Yelp
Horrible grocery store they should really just close they are underselling the community in so many ways. I went here to grab some items to make dinner . However , there were no carts which really pissed me off because I had my one year old toddler friend with me. And then we get inside , they have no produce options. So I just grand bread , a frozen vegan pizza, some decent at best apples I looked for about ten minutes to find. Then Kayla W. In checkout lane 13 decided as if the service wasn't horrific enough , to put my artesian bread in the same bag as the frozen daly vegan pizza . That was the final straw I asked her what made her do that and she responded I don't care lady which then made me immediately ask for a manager and then I asked does corporate know or care that y'all are open and doing the community and customers like me a injustice. He responded we are working on it and I just advise people to shopping here all together because yall have been open TOO long to work on it. And they need to hire people to ensure they have carts for people who want to shop !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's ridiculous

Yelp
Since this is the closest meijers to my house I often choose to go here when I need groceries. One of the things I love about this location is the presence of DPD. The location is not in a bad area but its always nice to have Detroit's finest present. There are officers inside the store, patrolling the parking lots and even at the gas station. We have gotten to know a few officers from going here so much. Gotta love DPD! The store is pretty well organized and clean. They re-did the self check out. The way it is set up is much more efficient and keeps the line moving. It is a much better set up compared to before. The staff are friendly and helpful.

Megan L.

Yelp
Meijer in Livonia is well stocked and the workers are friendly. Nice selection of grocery items as well.

Yelp
*** Pharmacy - Only *** This review is for the Meijer Pharmacy only. I had a great first experience with the pharmacy at this Meijer. They were fast, efficient and thorough. They offered to call my doctor when there was a small issue. And they didn't give me a hard time about using a GoodRx card like other places sometimes do. They actually recommended it, which was nice. Overall I felt like they cared about me and wanted to get me my meds quickly and at the best price. Also, the drive-thru window is very convenient.

Yelp
Poor customer service at deli counter and blocking isles when they stock and act as if you are in their way

Joyce W.

Yelp
This is my store for 100% of food items household and house items...The greeter's are kind helpful and respectful..I have a remarkable frieind that works at Meijer's she is the best..

Shannon A.

Yelp
The shelves are bare and the they only keep two registers open. This store is poorly managed.

Zachary S.

Yelp
I actually don't know people rated it really low. There is not much of issues just need to check expiration date before you put in your cart but other than that that store is great!

Yelp
Hands down the worst Meijer I've ever been to. And I hate that it's the only one reasonably close. On the smaller side compared to some stores I've been to and trying (and failing to cater to two VASTLY different demographics (large low income families vs middle class singles or young couples who buy lots of specialty food items). Their new self checkout is pretty excellent but not having a limit on number of items defeats the entire purpose of why they were created in the first place: for those of us with only a few items. Currently waiting in line, there were 10+ FULL TO the BRIM carts in front of me which inevitably taxes the ONE attendant working (and bless her she is working her ass off! I have one item. These full carts have absolutely no business being in self checkout. Put some limits on it. Probably doesn't need to be the 12 or fewer but come on.

Yelp
8 Mile!!! Detroit's shiny new 24/7 Meijer. YES!!! First off,, this place is hella massive. I never knew how big it was until I walked in. It's like your typical Meijer, but super sized. One thing that is really nice about this place is the layout. It's definitely well thought of. The food department is massive. Specially the meat part,, I definitely got to know pretty well. They're all well stocked and organized. The produce department is really nice as well,, then there's the bakery. I think all of the stuff that I came across in this shop was really nice and well put together. I believe I even looked for black kiwi liquid shoe polish and it wasn't very hard to find either. Check out was drama free and my life was definitely better because I shopped here. It was on the way from where I was coming from, so I didn't have to do a detour or do some unecessary back and forth driving. You know,,, that counter productive stuff that we don't need in our life. Anyways, I love it here and will definitely shop here again given the chance. Thank you so much for reading my review as well. I hope this helps. Ejoy your awesome yelptastic day!

Yelp
I have never been to one of these grocery stores. But it is so much more than just a grocery store. It has home goods, outdoor items, plants, home Decor, liquor , you name it this store has it. Plus the store is so clean, has lots of help to assist you if needed and there are many cashiers open so you are not waiting in line with so long to pay. Love this store
google avatar

Jennifer B.

Yelp
This Meijer is lacking in many ways. There's never enough staffed check out lanes. Produces are unpredictably out of stock oftentimes. Carts are basically non existent. There's not enough staffs manning the self checkouts. It is very obvious at how corp is neglecting this location. If this Meijer was located in an affluent white neighborhood, you know this wouldn't fly. Why is it acceptable here?
google avatar

Lois D.

Yelp
I'm here in line today at 7:24pm and there is only line 21-23 open for cashiers. The self checkout has a line about 1 block long. What's going on?
google avatar

Kat L.

Yelp
The worst!!! Why do you have a dozen check out lane but you too fucking cheap to pay people to work them???? I been in linen for 28 minutes and still in the wine isle.... Just waiting to get to the front

Yelp
Y'ever go into an establishment that you've been to before multiple times and had bad experiences for the express intent of dragging them in a brutal one star review that you wanted to relate to a fresh experience? Ever been surprised at being denied this predetermined outcome? It just happened to me here. The self checkout registers at this Meijer used to be a sad farce. Nowhere near enough in number with a line often stretching all way down the produce aisle to damn near the back of the store. I've walked out of this Meijer before just to drive all the way to the 12 Mile and Mound store. (The lanes with actual human cashiers are woefully and/or willfully understaffed, too. I drove out to this Meijer the other night just to endure this sad situation and shit on em online for it. To my surprise the self checkout lanes had been completely revamped with a bunch more registers added, a new layout with a switchback to keep the queue from stretching deep into the store and the produce aisle blocked off just to keep that area still shoppable. I guess if the line gets too unruly it will stretch down the beer aisle instead? I wouldn't know as it was nicely contained by the switchback and the wait didn't eat up half my evening. Maybe the situation will devolve with registers out of order or sheer overcrowding but everything worked like a well-oiled machine with the register reinforcements and improved layout Friday night. So my expectations were all wrong. This still isn't the best Meijer. It's in a big, ugly, generic strip mall occupying the former Michigan state fairgrounds that, given the history of the site, could use a lot more character and style IMO. There's only one entrance, and as others have noted security and the cops, usually multiple cars, are always camped out in the lot. It's not as sprawlingly large as most Meijers and not stocked quite as well. They also close at 11, rather than 12, an impediment to a night owl like me. The convenience of having a Meijer within Detroit city limits keeps me from slapping this location with a lackluster two stars though. It's not even the nicest Meijer in the city - that would be the Meijer on Grand River near Lahser. But that's way out on the west side and a longer drive for me than some Meijers in the burbs. Honestly I'm still tempted to drive farther to one of those Meijers rather than frequent this 8 Mile/Woodward store but that self checkout upgrade bought some goodwill from me. So this location gets three stars but a pretty tepid three stars.

C K.

Yelp
The worst Meijer this lifetime Michigan resident has ever seen. You should stand by the front doors and hear the customers walking in and out swearing and complaining - your complete day's entertainment. Do you want a cart? No cart for you! I mean, you can walk to the back of the lot and maybe you can get one. Abandoned carts on the fringes and tons of carts in store sitting there full of junk. The staff is the absolute worst. They have no idea what they're doing, have terrible attitudes, and don't care. The store is often very dirty. The restrooms are filthy and soap, tp, etc. out of stock. Speaking of out of stock, many items are consistently out of stock. They have no idea how to run a store here. If you need help with something (self checkout issues, prices, customer service, returns), good luck. Just go to another Meijer. Worthless.
google avatar

Melissa M.

Yelp
I used to hate coming here but with the remodel, they've improved A LOT. They added nice self checkout lanes and the staff are a lot nicer too.
google avatar

Nicole E.

Yelp
This place was so clean and fresh when it was new. It's an interesting layout and there's only one main entrance in the center of the store. I often get confused where the layout of the food versus the pharmacy and home goods are here. As every Meijer is slightly different. I tend to frequent the location in Madison Heights or in Troy, since they don't carry some of the hair products at this location that I usually buy.

Sam S.

Yelp
They often don't have the items listed on the Meijer website. They fail to restock shelves. A very badly managed store. The worst Meijer I the state of Michigan. DO NOT order online for delivery from this store!. Unless you don't mind the constant text messages from the Shipt shopper notifying you they don't have your item for the duration of the time they are in the store. My last order had 43 items on the list. 22 items were unavailable with no alternative available. No ground beef, no baking potatoes, no tartar sauce, no garlic, no garlic powder, no cat food. I could go on.

Rachel G.

Yelp
Not to one specific meijer, but meijer in the metro Detroit area as a whole. I have been a loyal meijer shopper for decades, I have the meijer credit card, mperks, etc. The order free pick up option has been a huge benefit while I work 4 jobs trying to survive all of these rising prices. This weekend I discovered they are now charging 5 dollars on the app just to order a pick up. It's hard enough to get by in this economy that now any price increase, even a small one, can completely alter my budget planning. After the price increase on meijer pick up orders I have decided to switch all of my main grocery shopping to kroger. They have free pick up and on some weekends free delivery. Some prices are lower and I see myself saving a lot more money not using the meijer credit card as often. For anyone else noticing meijer price increases, kroger has been a great money saving option for the same and sometimes better quality products.

Yelp
Decent store but very large store, and at least on the day I was there, I could not find everything I wanted, like turkey sausage made by Jennie O' But I do really like at the self-serve checkout aisles, they have people there to assist, and the line moves really, really fast. The service here is pretty decent. The parking lot is very busy. Drive very cautiously
google avatar

Jolisa D.

Yelp
I stopped in today to shop for fruit. The certain fruit looked very bad so I selected pomegranate that was in the cup. (I should make my selections based off this because the fruit on display should all be fresh and readily available because this is the purpose of a grocery store) I checked the date. The fruit was spoiled. Im not sure who is over that department but guidelines are not being followed. Food is medicine and if its spoiled it does not serve a purpose. The cashiers were amazing and did their part!

William C.

Yelp
Went to meijer just shy of a month ago and purchased a $300 lg 4k blu-ray player that's wifi enabled. Within a month it stopped working and I went to return or exchange the player. Meijer refused to return or exchange it because it was an expensive them. I called corporate and the most they could do was make a complaint report about the store and manager. Needless to say I will take my business elsewhere from now on.
google avatar

Michelle Z.

Yelp
Do NOT buy their fried chicken. I took a bite without looking, and it tasted really bad/old. When I took a closer look, the chicken has been REFRIED. THERE WAS AN OLD COAT OF BATTER, then a new, fresher one over it. They basically reused their old chicken which should have been thrown out and are reselling it.
google avatar

Bee D.

Yelp
It's like the last minute item single fatha's hangout spot! I like I like!! Now most conveniently I can find the items I usually need after I've forgotten at the grocery store I found that particularly on Sunday's before the games is the perfect time to drop in Meijers because the MEN are there! Especially the single ones you married men keep pushing the carts!! Ladies make that stop!
google avatar

Matthew J.

Yelp
Dirty and nasty bathroom. Unorganized self check out operations and terrible customer service. Severely understaffed in the deli. They don't follow the number system and tried to go out of line when I wanted some chicken. The woman in the deli then explained "come on, what you want!?" before I can get my order in. I walked off. Terrible service. And people wonder why they'll pay more to go to Whole Foods.

Yelp
We came to the location on a Sunday morning. There were three cop cars in the parking lot at various points. We entered the bottle return area to find it absolutely filthy, with empty carts everywhere and most machines nonfunctional. I attempted to use the red phone on the wall to call for help, but they refused to answer it. I attempted to call the store's phone number, and they would not answer. My wife went inside to the customer service desk, where she was told that no manager was available, and that no one would help us. I attempted to Facebook to get help from Meijer corporate, also with no success. They did Facebook me later with a fairly standard brushoff about addressing it with the team. I would avoid this location. Final thought: I really wanted Detroit to have a nice place for people to shop, and had high hopes that Meijer would be able to provide a great shopping experience. I was disappointed.

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
It's hard to believe that this store is so poorly run. I have given them far too many chances. I used to do the pick up option. You can count on them filling about 60% if you're lucky. Constantly out of basics like eggs, milk, etc without any substitutions. Often times you are charged for items that you don't receive. My last order they didn't even bother to fill and let me know after 26 hours that they canceled the order. Don't expect to get any help from customer service either. Very disappointing.
google avatar

Mark M.

Yelp
What a fantastic location! Lots of parking as well as a gas station. The bakery had a great selection of pastries, and the cream filled donut I had was to die for. I like the layout of the store and they had some great sale prices too! The amount of self service registers was appreciated. However, many of them were not working properly, freezing, and working super slow.
google avatar

Kristi S.

Yelp
The longest lines! Why bother spending the money building 30 checkout lines if you're only going to staff 4 of them at the busiest time of the week! It's mid day Sunday, get your act together, it's not news that the weekend is when most people shop. So worried about cutting costs that you're sacrificing your own customers' satisfaction. You guys make Walmart look good

Margaret M.

Yelp
I've had average to mediocre experience with curbside pick-up, but today my experience with phone customer service was so horrendous I will never shop here again. They refused to let me speak to a supervisor and insisted my only option for rotten and damaged produce was to take it back to the store - even though I explained I'm high-risk and do not go into stores, which is why I use curbside pick-up to begin with. They lost a customer permanently today.

Angie T.

Yelp
I used instacart and only purchased 3 items (wine box, 5lbs of potatoes and bacon) with purchase and delivery it cost me approximately $46 when items cost with markup was approximately $24. I will NEVER use Instacart again!!!!

K F.

Yelp
Terrible experience!!! Staff was very rude and unprofessional. Was waiting at self check for an employee to scan my ID. Employee looked at me multiple times and was rude and unprofessional when I flagged her down and asked for help. I waited 5 minutes before I flagged her down asking "can you please scan my ID, can you help me". She proceeded stare at me, not respond, and get another employee, while complaining "I can't believe this bitch asking me for help while I am 8 months pregnant" while angrily storming off. This is unacceptable and unprofessional behavior.
google avatar

Kiley K.

Yelp
I can't stand this Meijer. Hardly any shopping carts available, lines are always long, produce is poor quality or out-of-stock and many items on the shelves are already expired. The customer service is terrible.

My elderly mother has lived in Detroit for some time now. She was very excited to hear news that Meijer would be opening near her home. When the store opened it was fantastic. However, now things have changed. They have poorly stocked and dirty shelves. This type of mess is not only an eyesore but it can lead to germs and possible illness. The stickiness from opened items on the shelf is unacceptable. Residents in Detroit deserve a clean store.

Yelp
What a complete and absolute nightmare. 1 star is too high of a rating for this dump. 1. Staff on their cell phones at the checkouts (when they actually have people working the checkout). 2. Disgusting quality produce (I took a picture of a coat hanger in the lettuce bin) 3. self checkouts not working and 1 person manning 15 machines that are mostly down. 4. meat section has blood and slime all over the shelves and floor 5. food has been opened and eaten in the aisles 6. expired dairy products and breads 7. parking lot is a disaster and carts are never collected 8. constant beeping from electric carts that are abandoned by teenagers 9. rude staff who are completely clueless (my friend got into an argument with a checkout person) 10. homeless people using the bathroom as a sauna and shower room 11. police officers shopping instead of making sure people aren't stealing (yea, I've seen it myself) ...the list goes on. What a complete nightmare.

Yelp
This Meijer location is closest to my home, which may explain why I've had so many poor experiences there. Let's start with the parking lot. There are often no spaces left that are actually for Meijer - there are usually some farther over, but with the amount of traffic, it's not the safest to park far and walk. Coming in the entrance, security is tighter than usual but seems to do some profiling. The floor plan makes it difficult to find items because the aisles are split (the store is smaller than most) without proper labeling. They also frequently don't have common products in stock. The worst part, though, is checkout. They have an insufficient number of cashiers, no no-item-limit self checkout, and an incredibly poorly designed 12-items-or-fewer self checkout. They essentially use a form-one-line system there, without actually having a spot for the line to go or a proper marker (so it just blocks access to the vegetables), and then assign a person (that could be operating a cash register) to monitor the line. I've openly heard the self-checkout monitors bad-mouthing customers within earshot of other customers, and they are often slow to respond to the frequent issues with the machines. Overall assessment? Go to a different Meijer (or different grocery altogether), or use Shipt from this location. There's no shortage of supermarkets in this area.

Yelp
Incompetence. Everywhere. From the disaster of a self checkout, to 14/16 check out lanes closed. Oh and don't even think about trying to return cans here, at any hour of any day. If you ask for help they will either ignore you or say someone is 'working on it' (since September they've been 'working on it') I go here for the convenience of location but find myself more inconvenienced each time. Good luck!

Yelp
Would give more stars because I like the store and how they back unions but this store specifically isn't that good. Past 3 times I went here they haven't seemed to restock much, it's like they always have the same things missing. Just need to be more on top of stocking the shelves!
