In my TOP 10 restaurants so far! Food was delicious and different from other Thai places i have been too. This or probably my TOP 3 Thai place in SD. Service was amazing and super accomodating and friendly staff. Atmosphere was nice. Love the interior design. Definitely would come here again and try other dishes.

was coming for the boat noodle. it was ok but not impressive, not much meat and overpriced. for the fish curry noodle- don't pick it. its just the fish ball you could get from grocery store. ~$23 for only 5 fish balls (kid meal!?) and the curry was quite watery, they didnt add any ground meat or greens into it but only several useless decorative black dried chili. the way they severed noodle was terrible - once the noodle dried out it stick to everything, some noodles stick on the bowl, disgusting. def overpriced. long waiting time, took 10mins for placing order (no server serving unless you asked for) and another 20mins for getting the food meanwhile there were quite a lot of empty tables not the busy full-house hours...

We ordered - Nam Kao Tod, picture 1, this is our favorite. So so tasty and savory. It tastes fresh and unique, with a kick of spicy. - boat noodle, picture 2, surprisingly it has a little sour tasting. Very unique, it’s like a heavy version of Pho. - larb salad, picture 3, fresh and tasty. Nam Kao Tod is no doubt our favorite.

the nam khao tod and beef salad are my favorites !! also recommend the beef jerky and som tum thai :) it can get a little stuffy inside but the food makes up for it also it gets busy during lunch so try coming earlier !

Came here to get lunch because a friend was visiting and he really wanted some good Thai food. This place was lovely! Really good portion size for the food, especially for all the noodle dishes. Husband got the Chicken Pad Thai and it was beautiful. Medium spice level and that was just the perfect right amount of spice. Good amount of chicken in there and the sauce was so flavorful. I could have eaten that whole plate myself as well. It was hard to resist. Friend got the Drunken Noodles with Tofu. He thoroughly enjoyed the food as well. Almost finished the entire plate but only couldn't because it was a lot of food, haha. I got the Fresh Spring Rolls with shrimp. Asked for less noodles and extra vegetables and they delivered on this very well. Spring rolls came with a sweet and spicy sauce with some crushed peanuts in there and that was lovely. That sauce was good even on its own. Also got the Chicken Satay. Was a little surprised by the look of this because it was more like sliced chicken breast that was cooked with the flavoring (different from the skewer concept that I have seen at other restaurants). Chicken was also a little bit oily so I had to use a tissue paper to wipe it out. The peanut sauce that it came with though... That was unbelievably amazing!! I actually had spoonfuls of that sauce by itself. Also use that sauce for the spring rolls. I wouldn't mind a giant portion of just that peanut sauce. It really was good! Nice ambiance of the place as well. It wasn't overly fancy but nice.

Was here in the last month, this spot is a gem. Best Thai food I’ve had in SD, the drunken noodle is next level and probably best I’ve had in Southern California. Excellent food, service, and people. Will be back again for sure

Drove down from North County to try the thai here! Inside is cute, semi casual lots of beautiful happy plants, and clean ambiance. I had never been here and was pleasantly surprised by the amounts and variety of delicious veggies in the Tom Yum soup. Also tried the Panang curry with wild caught Salmon, just wonderful paired with the Laos Golden Beer! Perfect for a cold rainy night like tonight. I will definitely be back.

We come here OFTEN. We're obsessed!! We get the pad thai and pad see ew often, but love the jerky and the tom kha soup equally, and honestly haven't tried much more because we love those so much. We always finish with mango sticky rice. The staff are all so sweet and attentive, the owner Stella is awesome, and the plants/atmosphere is so fun! We love having a favorite thai place to come back to again and again. Couldn't recommend more!

I've been here a couple of times already and will be coming back again and again. Food is fresh and flavorful. I definitely recommend the Nam Khao Tod, it's their best seller for a reason. And it goes perfectly with their papaya salad, Som Tum Thai. A word of caution, coming from a person that usually gets a 8/10 on spicy dishes... their 3/5 had me sweating. I think I would have been fine with a 2/5. If you do save some room for dessert, the mango sticky rice a la mode will not disappoint, the perfect smorgasbord of sticky rice, ice cream, and mangoes. Family style is recommended so you can get a little taste of their many delicious options. And with many food places in Convoy, parking can be tough, if you come at a peak times.

Food was super fresh and great service. Their price for portion size was kinda high. Atmosphere was good. Parking is only concern since gets busy down there .

Good food and good service! Ordered the popular Nam Khao and Khao Piek Sen again. Tried something different this time though and ordered the Chicken Laap. I liked how the Nam Khao pork was super lime flavored and there was a bunch of super crispy rice pieces. The noodles of the Khao Piek Sen were nice and chewy. The Chicken Laap was super strong in cayenne/ paprika flavor? Not sure if it was my fav. Overall the food is good and is a solid Lao spot in SD, but I do leave thirsty. Wondering if they use a lot of salt/ or MSG??

I was craving Boat Noodles so my friend recommended Mekong! I've had this place bookmarked for awhile and I'm glad that I got to finally try it! For a party of 3 we came here around 6pm on a Friday night and we beat the dinner rush. We were seated immediately, the service was phenomenal. We were given suggestions and recommendations for spice level (they really don't mess around here, so pro-tip: go with spice on the side so you can season to your liking). We ordered Papaya Salad (Thai style. They also offer Laotian style which comes with fish sauce which gives it a funky taste. Know the difference since they taste very unique), Nam Khao Tod (which was this crispy rice/meat scramble ontop of romaine lettuce leaves so you have the option to make lettuce wraps if you wanted), Boat Noodles (hearty beef, wide rice noodle soup), Crying Tiger (sliced steak with sour lemongrass/lime sauce... I forgot to take a picture of this dish :'( ), and a side of sticky rice. Honestly every dish we ordered was heavily seasoned, very flavorful, and it was all delicious. This was a stark difference from the subtle and delicate tastes in Japan that I've been eating for the past couple weeks, and I'm here for it! It really felt like I couldn't go wrong with anything I ordered from the menu. Highly recommend this place, I'm definitely coming back for more!

My favorite Thai food in San Diego!! This is my go-to place for bringing in lunches to offices. The staff every time absolutely loves the food from here. Stella, the owner, has the best customer service. As someone that really cares about ingredients, this restaurant does not cook with seed oils, uses 100% coconut milk for curries, and has organic tofu!! They cook everything homemade and very fresh. Also, the food is always delivered hot and never cold. I absolutely love this place!! It also accommodates gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan.

Wifey insists to try Mekong Cuisine Lao and Thai . We came at lunchtime on a weekday, parking was still plenty and plenty of tables were still available when we arrived but later after it soon became very packed. I got the Boat Noodles, it's a soup with Beef, meatballs, bean sprout , fried garlic, and rice noodles . The broth was very flavorful, the meats were plentiful, very satisfying bowl. Wifey got the Pad Thai, she said it was delicious and also had plenty of protein in her Pad Thai. It's clean inside and bright, and our waitress was friendly. Parking is shared with a lot of restaurants around so expect a busy Parking time around dinner time here on the weekend.

Came here on a monday morning around 11, we ordered calamari, thai boat noodles, khao piek sen. everything came after 15 minutes of ordering. very good and comforting!

Finally got the chance to try this place and I was not disappointed. I've noticed when I eat at Lao and Thai restaurants, the Lao food is always amazing while the Thai food is average. This place was no different. Service was great and quick. Between my friend and I, we got, from favorite to least favorite: Nam Khao Tod (incredibly tasty and packed with amazing and perfectly-balanced flavors), Fish Cakes (different from any fish cake I've ever had, but soo tasty!), the Lao Platter (pretty good overall even without the sauces. The beef jerky was my favorite part), and Drunken Noodles (asked for Spicy Level 4 and you could barely taste any spiciness. Overall, bland). I'm sure there are a lot of other amazing dishes from here that I hope I get the chance to try. Unfortunately, it is quite an expensive place to eat so I will not be coming as often as I would like to.

I've heard about this place for a while. This is the FIRST Lao place in the Convoy area so I'm glad to finally come across this place through a social. Here was my experience. AMBIANCE: Parking: Welcome to Convoy, parking can be challenging. There's a parking lot and street parking but it can get packed easily. Seating: Inside seating good for groups or individual bar seating. It can probably fit about 50 people total. Feels: Convoy Asian Cultural District...what a gem! Plenty of eateries and if timed right, there are some great events happening around the area. The restaurant itself is pretty nice. It has a warm feeling to it from the colors, cultural homey decor, and the pop FOOD: Lao/Thai Platter (Modified) (Recommend) If you're indecisive, then this stuff is for you Beef Jerky - Well dried beef that was chewy with lovely flavors of spice and tamarind. Sai Oua (Sausage) - Deelish! Well cooked, savory, and juicy. The zesty flavor of lemongrass stands out with every bite. Spring Rolls - Tofu as protein with a good mix of noodles and plum sauce on the side to give it a nice sweet and tangy taste. Egg Rolls- A comforting delight of meat and veggies well wrapped in crunchy rice paper. For those that want to start simple, egg rolls are a general common dish in Asia. Laap/Larb/Laab - All the same things - diced meat (pork) mixed well with cilantro, scallions, mint, shallot and fish sauce. Despite this was meaty, this felt lite, refreshing, and flavorful. Thai Tea (Recommend) Solid. Creamy with a nice Thai flavors of floral vanilla and spice. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Awesome! Stella and team were friendly and professional! TL; DR OVERALL: 5 Stars. Delicious food, reasonable prices, and a pleasant experience. There is more I need to explore here or even try again! First time trying this place, Overall fantastic food and service. Here's what we ordered: Nem khan Tod: figured I'd try their top rated rice dish and so glad I did. It's bursting with flavors and texture. Super crunchy (they had fried crispy rice like the one you scrap off the side of those stone bowls) plus a bunch of other crunchy bits in it - so if you're a texture person this is for you. It's a bit salty but it goes well with the lettuce wrap it comes with.

Came here on a Saturday evening in March! We had a party of 16 people. Luckily we called ahead of time for them to put together a table for us. Parking on this lot/area is just crazy, so make sure you carpool. Menu looked SO good. I wanted everything! I ended up with two of their popular items and I was pleasantly surprised with the crispy rice dish. Portion size looks small but was actually quite filling. I would come here again to try my Laos dish!

Ordered delivery via GrubHub. Pros: -First time trying Nem Khao Tod and it was delicious. Not only was it tasty, but the texture was crispy and tasted perfect with the side of lettuce. I would definitely order this one again. -I ordered a spicy level 4 for the hot basil chicken and it had good heat. Cons: -n/a Overall, the items I ordered were flavorful. Three items came up $66.03.

2nd time visiting Mekong and they make some delicious flavorful food. Nam Khao Tod is a popular dish consisting of coconut sticky rice fried to where there are crispy rice, it is quite gingery though. Very tasty but I think the dish can be come too one note if that's the only thing you're eating. This time I tried the ka pow with ground pork. Very flavorful dish cooked with bell peppers, basil, and chili peppers. Served with rice and a fried egg. My favorite dish. We also tried the spaghetti kee mao as a unique pick since we didn't even know what it was. We got it with shrimp. It had a similar flavoring to the ka pow with similar ingredients but served with spaghetti. This was also tasty. I feel like the portions are a little small for the price, but the portion is probably what a normal person should be eating in one seating. Service was great. The restaurant is nice and modern. It never got too crowded but still had tables filled. Parking beware - it is convoy after all. If dining at prime time, I recommend parking on the street and walking over.

They have booster seats, not high chairs, but I found that worked fine for my toddler. Even level 1 spice on the red curry is high spice- I can tolerate a bit and it was making me sweat. I mentioned that I was planning on sharing with my baby and didn't get any advice that he wouldn't be able to handle it (and he eats guac with jalapeño so can tolerate some mild spice too) Thai tea was lovely. Check out at the register. It was delicious but just a heads up on spice levels for those eating with little ones.

Food: Nam Khao Tod (5/5): Loved the crispy rice, lots of crunch in this dish. It was so good to eat and wrap with the lettuce. The flavors were on point, definitely a favorite. Som Tum (5/5): Fresh, flavorful, and crunchy. Wrapping it in lettuce was a good combo, really enjoyable. Boat Noodles (1/5): The noodles were like pho noodles, and I didn't love the flavors. It was salty and just okay overall. Drunken Noodles (1/5): Not a personal favorite. I couldn't get past the flavor, even though the noodles and meat were cooked well. Mango Sticky Rice (2/5): The rice felt undercooked and was drenched in sweet coconut milk. It wasn't very sticky, though the mango slices were decent. Thai Tea (5/5): I loved the presentation in the mason jar. The flavors together tasted so fresh! It was a strong thai tea flavor and was sweet but tasted so good all together. Service: The staff was super friendly, helpful with the menu, and very conversational. They checked in often and made the experience really welcoming. Ambiance: The restaurant is clean, nicely decorated, and has a cozy feel. Loved the look and vibe of the interior.

Celebrated Father's Day with a large group. Food - Hit or miss. Some were good,some were not. Price - This is where they get 2 stars off. Expensive for what they are vs what other competition offers off Convoy area. Maybe it's the location having to pay premium rent in the area. Ambience - Clean,decent size,well decorated and from my last visit many yrs ago,they have renovated the place. Staff - Nice and attentive. For the prices in their menu,I would go to Kanpai beside them instead and enjoy AYCE premium Kobe beef for just $39.95 and feel happy for what I spent. That's just me.

Ordered a few things for pick up. They were all packaged well and were still warm when I got home. I liked that they kept the Thai coffee in the fridge while waiting for me to pick it up and took it out when I got there; it was a nice extra mile that they didn't have to do! Pad Thai (seafood) - tasty, sticky, moist Pad Thai! The seafood option had mussels, oysters, shrimp and calamari and there was plenty of it. I chose spicy level 3 (out of 5) and that was perfect for a Pad Thai since I like it to be sweeter. Nam Khao Tod - like everyone here, I agree that this is bomb. I have never heard of this dish before until I saw all the reviews here. I love the crispy rice and the savoriness of this dish. I could just eat it on its own. And I did. Chicken wings - nice, crispy, very garlicky with a subtle fish sauce at the back. Kinda expensive for a plate of 5. Thai coffee - not bad. nice to have at the end of a delicious Thai meal.

Let's just start by saying, when I see a display of peppers on the table, I KNOW it's going to be an authentic Lao/Thai restaurant. My first time being here and it did not disappoint. My friend and I came 30 mins to closing (I usually DON'T do that) and the person in the front took us in. So, thank you!! We ordered 4 dishes and that was more than enough for the 2 of us. We definitely ordered with our eyes, not stomach. Let's start with the boat noodles, let me tell you... the bowl was huge! It was perfect for the two of us since we were family styling everything. The broth was flavorful and the chiccharons was perfect! In addition, we had the Lao style papaya and it was spot on. We opted for the "mild" which consisted of 3 peppers, Lao/Thai food is not made for the weak. You won't regret it. Laos sausages of course was a must! It came with this garlicky lime sauce which I've never had before and I can honestly probably drink it. Lastly, we had the nam khao (not pictured) which was probably one of the best ones I've had. It was perfectly crispy without being too crispy. Will be back soon! Thank you!

Been a while since I've been here. Appears to be new ownership and the place has been re-made. I kinda liked to old setup and the rustic foods. I remember I had some really classic dishes the last time, including a steamed fish dish. Ordered the ginger stir fry with chicken, which comes with jasmine rice. Food was good, but it's lost some of its charm. May be attracting a more upscale clientele, but I guess I'm not upscale, lol. Just average for me now. Still exploring for the best Tha andi Loa in San Diego.

My husband and I went to this LAO & THAI restaurant called "MEKONG CUISINE LAO & THAI". We've seen this restaurant many times, but we always end up eating at another place because of the parking here. It's always busy in this area, but I'm glad we finally had a chance to tried this place because the food was good. At first, I told my husband let's just order 1 thing and share so we can try it first to see if the food here is good, but the more I looked at the Menu the more I decided to get more :) Here are the few foods we tried here: *LAO PLATTER *PAD THAI *BOAT NOODLES When I was deciding if I was going to order the Pad Thai, I kept going back and forth on choosing to get it or not since I have had a few that were way too sweet for me at other restaurants, but I'm happy that when I tasted their Pad Thai here it wasn't too sweet at all, I actually like their Pad Thai a lot. The Boat noodles have a good broth, but I didn't focus much on that. I was more focused on their LAO PLATTER, and I was curious to try it. The BEEF JERKY on the Lao Platter was well marinated, the sirloin was very tender, and the CHICKEN WINGS on the platter were crispy and taste good. The SAI QUA on the platter is a LAOTAN lemongrass SAUSAGE. My husband said it was spicy, but for me, it wasn't spicy at all; it's savory and good. The staff were nice, I really love the Stanley pitcher that they used for their water. The service was fast too. Foods were good . Plenty of tables for the customers, but Parking is kinda hard to find around.

This was sitting in my bookmarks for a while as I was in search of more Lao cuisine to try. The establishment went through a renovation so the interior is all modernized and looked really great! I love the greenery around the restaurant and the black chairs give it a sleek look. For a late Saturday brunch, there was a still good amount of customers eating and I noticed they have regulars quite often. We ordered one bowl of their Khao Piek Sen and I had the Nam Khao Tod (Crispy Rice Salad). It was my first time having the crispy rice and the flavors of vinegary fermented pork and crunchy rice were right up my alley. It comes with lettuce to make some lettuce boats and to balance the saltiness of the dish. The crunchy bits of rice were delicious but definitely filling. I would say this is more of a shareable appetizer than an entree as I couldn't finish it all! The Khao Piak Sen was hearty and their tapioca noodles were fresh and perfectly chewy. My friend said this food was reminiscent of his hometown and enjoyed both items. He also ordered a iced Thai coffee and it reminded me of an instant Vietnamese coffee. To finish, we indulged in some sweet mango sticky rice! The mangoes were still sweet and in season. The service was on top as well and I will be coming back to try some more items as we were amazed with the food!

Finally had the chance to give this place a try. Many people assume that Koon Thai is the only Thai place on Convoy, but this place deserves some love too. It's located in the same plaza and Kanpai BBQ and Shabu, so its one of the ones with better parking (that's a big plus in the convoy area). The restaurant was super clean, and I actually enjoyed the decor, it was cute! There's plenty of seating as well! Service was great. Hostesses and waitress were super nice. Greeted me with a smile. Super patient with my friend and I. Constantly checked in on us. It's what you'd expect from good customer service. Food was pretty good. Running on the pricier end, but it was still yummy. We started with the garlic chicken wings, and they were yummy. Definitely fresh, had a nice crispiness to them too. I had the Pork Belly and Chinese Broccoli and it was pretty good. The pork belly was crispy, which I loved. The veggies had lots of flavor and just the right amount of spice. My friend had the chicken pad thai, and it definitely had that thai spice in it. But the flavors were really good! I see myself coming back here. Convoy doesn't have much Thai food options, but for what they do offer, I personally prefer Mekong now first. There was a lot of other things on the menu that caught my eye that I'll be trying on future visits.

Pretty disappointed that out of all the Laos restaurants I saw on yelp, this is the one we went to. We chose Laos cuisine because usually they make their food spicier than anyone else. While we were ordering, we were informed that they do not add any spice to their food (at least not what we ordered). They suggest we use the spice rack and adjust to our taste, but that is not the same. Typical spicy Lao and Thai food use bird eye chilis, grounded with a mortar and pestle. The sate, chili peppers in fish sauce, and jalapenos in vinegar all change the taste of the food. And the dry chili was not spicy at all. We split the nam khao and boat noodles. The flavor of both was solid. The nam khao was crispy and the meats in both of the dishes were excellent. But without the spice, I would not return to order either. -Thai tea was better than most places -Food was overpriced for what it was, but I don't know if they have to adjust for the area. San Diego might require higher prices -Staff was very friendly, but service wasn't great. I had to request for everything (utensils, napkins, spice rack, more water). Staff kept chit chatting with the other table so I would have to wait quite a bit each time too -Tip options start at 20%, which is a little aggressive for a small shop like this with not so great service

My family and I ordered take out for the first time tonight. It's hard to find authentic Lao food, but the dishes tasted like they came from Grandma's kitchen. We had nem khao tod, chicken wings, beef laap, lao papaya salad and khao peak sen. Everything we ate was solid. We will definitely return soon.

I ordered a pad thai with tofu and spicy level 4 to go. This is one of the best pad thais I've had in San Diego! The portion was really big and the spice level was pretty good for me! I did end up adding a tiny bit more chili oil when I got home so next time I will try a level 5. The pad thai had a nice sweetness to it that I really enjoyed as well. I also got a thai tea that was pretty standard, I would order again to combat the spiciness but I have had better at other restaurants.

One of my favorites and go to places. The staff is phenomenal and the sweetest. Food is so good and fragrant and very tasty. Will forever be one of my regular places. Prices are also worth it!

I really enjoyed the modern decor of the restaurant. It was clean and felt stylish. Our waitress had us seat ourselves and they were quick. We had some questions about their dishes such as the oils they used and whether or not if some of their dishes had nuts since my friend had a nut allergy, and our waitress made sure to none of the dishes were contaminated and she was very attentive and helpful. I had the papaya salad, golden tofu, and Thai tea. I think their papaya salad was one of the best ones I've had ever. The sauce they used for the salad was fantastic and I got my salad mild. There still was a little kick but with a bowl of rice I downed this dish so fast. The tofu appetizer was also amazing, it was crispy and the dipping sauce they used for the tofu was tasty. The Thai tea is good as well. I was conflicted because when I saw the prices for this menu I was in distraught. In total it was about $60 for 3 1/2 dishes. I thought the food was so good though that I don't think I would mind coming back to try other dishes. Papaya Salad 5/5 Tofu 4/5

parking: free plaza parking! mekong is in a plaza full of restaurants so it does get difficult to find parking during peak times location: it's in the same plaza as epic wings wait: be prepared to wait if you're going on the weekends but it's worth the wait service: (10/10) the owners and staff are always so friendly and nice. even though it's really busy on the weekends, they try to be accommodating our go-to: * tom kha: my favorite!! best tom kha I've had in sd. strong lemongrass flavor and it's on the creamier side * pad see ew (with tofu): my favorite protein of choice from mekong is their tofu. they have a reliable pad see ew and you can adjust spice levels 1-5 * yellow curry: creamy, sweet and perfect for cold nights. if you don't know what to order, their curry is a solid choice main takeaway: mekong is our favorite thai/laotian spot in sd. it's my go-to when I'm craving takeout. overall, mekong has friendly staff, delicious food & a newly remodeled interior.

4 Stars - Solid Pad Thai, But Still Searching for the Best Came to Mekong for the Pad Thai based on Yelp reviews, and while it didn't crack my top 10, it was still a solid 4 out of 5. The dish was flavorful, with a good balance of sweetness and tang, and they were generous with the chicken and shrimp--always a plus. Overall, it's a decent spot if you're craving Pad Thai, but my search for the best continues. Still, not too bad and worth a try if you're in the area!

It's been a very long time since I last came here and now it's different owner. Met up with my friend for lunch and she's still new to Thai Lao food. Ordered the Lao beef jerky, drunken noodles with shrimp and ka pao with pork and gave us a free mango sticky rice dessert too . The beef jerky had good flavor and not too tough to chew . I like my food extra spicy but my friend can't handle it so only for at a 2 level so I had to add some more spice but really good flavors ka pao with egg was really good I try not to eat rice but had to with this dish . Mango was sweet and sticky rice so delicious . There were lots of people eating and nice decor and fancy and not too loud .

Can't believe it took me so long to try this restaurant. Food was really good and delicious. My wife and I ordered the Khao Soi, Boat Noodle, and Pad Thai with shrimp. The dishes had the right amount of Thai spicy as well. Everything tasted very authentic and service was amazing! Only complaints were the mango was a little sour in the mango sticky rice and the price for each dish was a little on the steep side.

I know most reviews mention the Nam Khao Tod and it did not disappoint! Absolutely delicious! So crispy and the fresh lime added on top makes it even better! We also tried the Khao Soi with tofu and it was delicious. Loved the simple, calming ambience. Parking is a little challenging. Depends on the time of the day and week.

I LOVEEE how this place was decorated! It was so cute with all the plants inside. I came here to eat with my friends and the ambiance was really amazing. The staff were also super nice. Honestly , wasn't a huge fan of the dish I got because it was very acidic and fried tasting. But the staff and ambiance were nice so I gave this a good score! Would come back!

Enjoy trying Lao food when we can find restaurants that offer it. Mekong had some of our fave items. Kiddo will never pass up Khao Soi. The broth with this one was flavorful. Hubs liked the texture of the noodles. I like Nam Khao - this one was good but I'm not a huge ginger fan and this one was full of ginger. SIL and kiddo, on the other hand, loved the ginger. The Mok Nor Mai was flavorful. Dare I say?!? I thought this one was better than my MIL's.

came in on a sunday at 12pm and there was no wait, we were the only people in the restaurant for a little while. pad thai was delicious, flavored well and was a generous portion. we also got the boat noodle soup which was on the sweeter side of boat noodle soups i've tried. they give a decent amount of meat, but not enough noodle. i finished my whole bowl and was considering ordering more noodles but decided not to. for how much this is (~$22), i feel it should definitely come with double the amount of noodles.

Pretty solid food in the area! It seemed every restaurant in SD was crazy busy on a Sunday night. Luckily we stumbled upon this place and it didn't disappoint! My friends and I shared a couple dishes and we were lucky to grab a big table for the 8 of us. Here is what I tried and my ratings on them: + Nam Khao Tod (4/5): This is really good! Very authentic. Crunchy rice and very flavorful. Fresh lettuce!! I think if I'm picky, a little more fish sauce and like would have been perfect. The green onions were also chopped too big for me. + Beef Jerky (5/5): Some of THE BEST Lao beef jerky I have ever had! Each piece was succulent and moist. Seasoned perfectly and great texture. The jeow was really tasty too. $4 extra for sticky rice is kind of crazy though. + Pad See Ew (4/5): Classic! You can't go wrong ordering this. The noodles were cooked well. Good amount of soy sauce and egg. Overall, a really solid menu option.

An enthusiastic 5/5 and probably the best Thai and Lao restaurant in San Diego. The food is absolutely delicious! Came in with a friend on a weeknight. They have a nice selection of natural wines that are good and reasonable priced. We ordered: Boat noodles: This was addictive and a must try. Super flavorful and better than any place I've tried this. Nam Khao Tod: This was also a delicious rice salad that we could not stop eating Mok Pah: Steamed fish was good, though wasn't my favorite of the night Basil stir fry with crispy pork: This is a must order. The greens were bright, green and the crispy pork had a slightly smoky taste that was delicious Sai Oua: This was moist and tender with a terrific lemongrass taste. Not like the sawdust sausages I've hade in Thailand. I would try this. Mango Sticky rice: Asian and vegan friendly! Came with vegan coconut ice cream with the sticky rice. A perfect palette cleanser. The interior is modern and stylish, great for a date night or dinner with friends. There is also a sunken large table that can fit 8 people, which is great if you want to celebrate a birthday. Owner is very friendly and checks on every table and makes sure everyone is taken care of. The food was fresh, executed so well and incredibly flavorful. There's good wine! This is definitely a cut above any expectations you'll have with a Thai/Lao restaurant. Can't wait to return!!

Traditional Lao food made well is hard to find. Mekong hits the mark everytime. Their Sai Oua and Khao Piek Sen are the best I have had in SoCal. Service is always great and ambiance is good.

Delicious fresh food, Pad Thai is fantastic! The Mango curry is also a go for! We highly recommend that place! Great service too and the ambiance is nice.

If you have never tried Thai cuisine, you should reserve a table and try the menu at this restaurant. You will be offered perfectly cooked yum haenm kao tod, BBQ pork and som tum lao. Come to FAIDANG Thai Restaurant for a break and taste good mango sticky rice and mango dessert.

I've been to this establishment a few times before the remodel and a few times after the remodel. The remodel is beautiful. Great service. Food is also good. One of my favorite Lao/Thai restaurants to go to. Doesn't disappoint.

Great Lao restaurant that is centrally located in San Diego. This is my go to Lao restaurant when I want to introduce the Lao cuisine to friends! The service is with a smile. The ambiance is great; restaurant is clean. Everything on the menu is delicious-- my go-to dishes are Lao papaya salad, nem khao, Lao sausages, khao poon. Warning: the food can be spicy! I'm always underestimating it! lol Enjoy!

We came in on Sunday and enjoyed our dinner. I opted for a Laotian dish called mok pah. This was salmon marinated in herbs and steamed in a banana leaf. It came with sticky rice and steamed bok choy and broccoli. It was a light and flavorful dish. There was a subtle spiciness to the fish. I also tried a bit of the nom khao tod and mango curry with tofu. Both were delicious. We also had Thai iced teas and shared the mango sticky rice for dessert. The restaurant is nicely decorated, clean and comfortable. They serve you at your table and you pay at the counter. When we arrived at 6 pm, there were only a few customers. By the time we left at 7:30 pm, the restaurant was full. There was also a good amount of people coming in for takeout orders. Service was quick and friendly. We all agreed that this is a restaurant worth returning to.

Overall (4.5 Stars)- Great experience! This restaurant is located inside a plaza full of Asian cuisine places so you know the parking is going to be full. We were able to choose the spice levels and protein choice on all the dishes. Nice, wide spread of Lao and Thai food. Food (5/5 Stars) - Man oh man, the food was tasty! We started off trying the Laotian beer, which was smooth and mild in taste. We ordered pad see ew, masuman curry, spicy basil pork belly, and mango sticky rice for dessert. The pad see ew noodles were chewy, and the meats were tender and well-flavored. The curry was creamy and had nice crunch from the peanuts. The pork belly was crispy and had a good kick. The mango sticky rice was just the right amount of sweetness. Portion sizes were decent! Service (5/5 Stars) - We came as a party of 4 during prime time dinner hour (6-7pm) and were seated immediately, which we were pleasantly surprised because the place was packed. Our waitress, Bee, was super hospitable and welcoming. This place seems like a family-run and homey. Ambiance (4/5 Stars) - The restaurant is tropical-theme; the interior was a little dark. Music choice consisted of a good variety.

Of all of the Thai Restaurants that I have been to in San Diego, this one in particular is the best so far! Mekong, in the historic Convoy District, has the freshest and most authentic ingredients. Starting with the Tofu Spring Rolls, the fresh vegetables and accompanying chili peanut sauce was amazing. The sauce was a combination of chili paste and peanut sauce with a splash of peanut oil. The result was one of the best condiments you could imagine. It could easily be added to any of the dishes on the menu for a little bit of extra spice. The Panang Curry was the right color, consistency, and full of fresh vegetables and spices. The coconut flavor was mild, and the chicken was cooked to perfection. The Green Curry was equally as tasty, and the beef was also perfectly prepared. The Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles were out of this world! They were authentically prepared with al dente noodles and fresh ingredients. The authenticity of these recipes made these dishes absolutely delightful... For a fresh and authentic Thai food experience, Mekong is in a league of their own!
