The 14 Best Bars In Baltimore - Baltimore - The Infatuation

"It isn’t often that a newcomer can take over a century-old operation, whip up some new cocktails and fresh neon, and firmly re-establish themselves as one of the best dives in the city. But that’s exactly what happened at Melanie’s. The worn-in bar and wood paneling remain, as well as the original moniker of Griffith’s Tavern, whose location dates back to Prohibition (the new addition to the name is a nod to actress Melanie Griffith). The exterior still recalls the decades when Hampden was primarily made up of working class mill workers, but inside, the drinks, space, and crowd reflect a new era of Hampden where old-timers rub elbows with the neighborhood’s newer mix of young families, college students, and queer community. You’ll find a wide range of drinks and price points, including $4 jello shots, $3-5 drafts, and a well-curated menu of mocktails. It’s also a great spot to try an Orange Crush (the official state cocktail), a way-too-easy-drinking mix of vodka, triple sec, orange juice, and lemon-lime soda." - michele berry

This gem is set in the heart of Hampden. Incredible energy from both bar staff and regulars. I was greeted with enchanting laughter as I walked into the bar . They make a very smooth old-fashioned that's made in-house , I also recommend the Low Life . Drink prices are very cheap, I was here for about 3 hours with 2 other friends of mine and the bill was only 95 bucks. Melanie's at Griffith' Tavern is the real deal.

I could not love this bar more! A warm, friendly atmosphere where everyone is welcome. The drink selection is fire and the chips and snacks are just the icing on the cake. So happy to have this watering hole in my neighborhood.

Absolutely wonderful hospitality. Our favorite place in Baltimore! The shuffle bowling game is a blast from the past. Who knew 25 cents could buy so much entertainment. Drink prices are very reasonable. The owner bartends and is great to talk with. This is definitely a must visit spot. The owner is attempting to sell the bar. Hoping someone is able to buy it and keep the 7 decade legacy going.

The bartenders and owners are amazing and super accommodating. As far as neighborhood bars go it’s a hidden gem. They don’t serve food but you can most certainly bring your own or even get it delivered with no issues. If you stop by ask for a low life, diva cup or W.H.Y..

Nice little bar tucked back into a little neighborhood. Great service, they had old fashioned flavored jello shots, alot of different alcohol, beer and seltzers. Along with a very nice snack selection! See photo for reference.

This place is just perfect. The vibes are friendly and relaxed, yet they consistently have cool cocktails and actually take mocktails very seriously. I love them.

Only allows “family dogs” whatever that means. Guess you have to be friends with the bartenders or your dog isn’t allowed. Definitely will not be back

Yelp
This was the perfect place for me to visit on a night I needed a low key, chill time. The dive vibe was perfect, as were the other patrons - I didn't know them, but they somehow gave me a good feeling. The bartenders (and owners, I believe) were super attentive. I can't recall what was on draught but there was a nice selection of beers in some open front cooler/fridge things. I also cannot recall what music was playing but I know it wasn't anything I disliked and it was at a reasonable conversation level. Oh, and the bathroom was super clean. Would 100% recommend AND visit again! Unfortunately, didn't take any pics. You'll have to visit yourself to see.
