"Enjoy the drink of pirates (and Hemingway) With the US travel restrictions to Cuba recently relaxed, I was able to realize a lifelong dream and visit that enchanting tropical isle under an official educational license for "people to people" travel. There were so many highlights, I'll never be able to post them all. But let me get back on topic. In between the fascinating meetings with locals and the exhilarating live music and the walking tours of colorful colonial neighborhoods, I was also on a mission to decide who made the best mojito in Cuba. To be honest, I also sampled my share of Cuba Libres, but in the interest of stress-free travel, I was only judging the mojitos. And... the award for best mojito in Cuba goes to... the lobby bar at Hotel Meliá Cohiba in Havana. From the generous portions of rum and perfectly muddled spearmint to the exact balance of sweetness versus lime-ness, we have a winner! For any like-minded travelers who find themselves taste-testing around Havana, consider a trek to the bar where Hemingway drank his mojitos, La Bodeguita del Medio, a painfully small watering hole that has significantly more atmosphere than barstools. Above the bar is a framed note in Hemingway's own hand indicating that besides mojitos, he also enjoyed daiquiris (but for those he visited the historic restaurant El Floridita). Salud!"

I just completed an exceptional 8-night stay at Meliá Cohiba in Havana, staying exclusively in The Level — and it was truly one of the best hotel experiences I’ve ever had. The location overlooking the Malecon and the vibrant Vedado area was perfect, and the comfort of the rooms paired with panoramic views made every moment memorable. The Level service consistently exceeded my expectations with a level of personalized attention that felt both welcoming and effortless. Thanks for the special gift received upon my arrival. In particular, I want to extend a sincere thank-you to Stella, Amanda, and Heidi from The Level team office — their professionalism, warmth, and genuine care made my stay especially remarkable. Whether it was anticipating needs before I even voiced them or delivering service with a smile, they truly embody thoughtful hospitality. Overall, the blend of elegant accommodation, attentive staff, and high-quality service at The Level made my Havana visit unforgettable. I will gladly return and highly recommend this experience to anyone seeking comfort, service excellence, and a special stay in Cuba.

One of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had — absolutely not worthy of the 5-star label. During our stay, unauthorised people entered our rooms on two separate occasions, including once while one of us was inside. Another time, someone entered, ate our food, drank from our fridge, and stole personal items. This is a shocking violation of privacy and safety. What made everything worse was the staff’s attitude. The reception team was repeatedly rude, and the management representatives were completely dismissive. They acted as if nothing serious had happened and showed no sense of urgency or concern. Instead of taking responsibility, they offered excuses and presented a sloppy “investigation” that felt unprofessional and unreliable. The hotel clearly has no proper procedures for handling theft or security breaches, and there are no effective security measures in place. For a hotel that advertises itself as luxurious and charges premium prices, the lack of accountability and basic guest safety is unacceptable. Save yourself the stress and disappointment — this hotel is nowhere near the standard it claims to be. I strongly recommend choosing a different place to stay in Havana.

Our stay under The Level reservation was exceptional and truly exceeded our expectations. This was our second visit, and once again, everything was impeccable. This hotel was one of the biggest disappointments of our trip. We expected a safe, relaxing stay in a luxury property — instead, we dealt with people entering our rooms without permission, belongings going missing, and a complete lack of responsibility from the staff. The attitude of the reception and management was unbelievable. They were rude, made excuses, and acted like nothing serious had happened. There was no proper explanation, no security measures, and no real investigation. It made us feel stressed, unsafe, and completely unsupported. For the amount of money this hotel charges, the lack of professionalism and basic respect for guests is unacceptable. I would never stay here again and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for a trustworthy or secure place in Havana.

I stayed in this hotel in the month of November, quality was really good for a Cuban hotel, the personnel were king, generous and friendly. There is a lot of variety in the food, different restaurants to choose and the room modern and clean. I would definitely recommend to come if you are seeking for a vacation in Havana!
