The 2024 Eater Philly Holiday Gift Guide | Eater Philly

"A South Philly diner celebrated in ornament form: illustrator and designer Sarah Beahm created an ornament-sized replica of the diner sign that can be hung on a tree or kept on the wall year-round, summed up by the sentiment that “diners are forever.”" - Esra Erol

The girls and I were in Philly for the Valentine's Day weekend and this diner was literally across the street from where we were staying at. My cousin & I came in one morning to have breakfast and everything was absolutely delicious. Waffle House may have some competition on their hands. Anyway, I love diners outside of New York. It's just better. lol. Our waitress was super nice. The food was excellent. We will definitely be back. See photos attached!

Early morning breakfast diner. I don’t usually come to south Philly for ANYTHING. On this good Thursday I found myself waiting for a friend to finish an appt so I came to this diner. Glad I did. Great French toast. Great coffee. Customer service was great. Will be returning the next time I happen to be in South Philly.

Came during the re opening and the food, service and atmosphere was great. Will definitely come here again. Personal favorites are the Turkey dish and chicken francaise, along with the various soups (especially the broccoli cream and chicken noodle). Also if you visit here you have to get the butter cake and their homemade cookies, both are philly staples. My family has come here for decades and this was my first time will definitely be back.

My first time today and it will definitely not be my last! The worker (Becca) was super friendly and tentative with me. The food was prepared just how I ordered it and I got it in less than 5 minutes which was really fast (I was there at 9am on a Wednesday so it wasn't busy). The pancakes were so fluffy and tasted delicious! As Arnold from the Terminator movie once said "I'll be back!".

Stopped here for breakfast before hitting the town. I dig the modernized retro theme. The employees are super nice. We got creamed chipped beef on toast, with grits( throw back to my childhood in the 90's) and my husband got a protein packed omlette, as well as coffee. (His was regular- still good, mine was a fancy iced coffee with whipped cream- better then starbucks at home 😄) check out these pics

I went to Melrose everyday for ten years and then I stopped for a long time. Well I went there today and they are back and better than ever. The food was great and the service was amazing. Very clean and very fresh. Melrose is again the place to be

The coffee was a bit watered down, so black coffee drinkers beware. The French onion soup is amazing! The French toast was very good, but the side of bacon wasn’t my style. The cream chip beef was a bit bland and the shredded hash browns were a bit undercooked if you are into that. Cash register lady grills your tip, which is uncomfortable, so even though they have parking, I will only be ordering take out from now on. Mostly for the soup only.

6/15/22...try the farmer's omelet, it's delicious! 6/5/22...ordered a buttercream cake for someone's birthday. We used to have this cake growing up and it's still delicious! 3/23/22….You get to know the wait staff, Becca, Kim, Duane..they are all so nice. I had the ham and cheese omelette, with the best home fries and one of the best toasted cinnamon buns, ever! Thank you, to the staff, that cooked my delicious food...so much appreciated! 10/31/21...I so wanted real diner food and we opted for the Melrose Diner. It was an excellent choice. I had the creamed chipped beef and a toasted cinnamon bun. My husband had a western omelette and I did a take out ham and cheese omelette and turkey club. Everything was delicious! And yes, the takeout orders were hot and packaged nicely. Becky, our server, was so patient and nice as the place was crowded. We also had our table cleaned by this super nice gentleman, sorry, I didn't get his name; but he had on a most sharp hat. A special thank you to him for his kindness! Real, old fashioned, diner food...awesome! Thank you! The Melrose Diner is truly a classic diner. There is counter service. There are booths and the place even has its own bakery where they still make their buttercream cakes. We recently went for breakfast, sat at the counter and I had to sample a little, or I should say a lot of everything. I opted for a ham and cheese omelet, with home fries, grits and french toast. My kind of breakfast; and it was delicious! The servings are more than generous and the food was freshly made and hot and our waitress, Kristen, was so very nice. In case you get hungry, they are also open 24 hours.
