Mel's Drive-In - Review - Downtown - Nashville - The Infatuation

"This chain out of California opened its first location outside of the state right off Broadway, and it’s a retro assault on the senses. Alongside the classic American cars and the flashing jukebox, there are patty melts, angus beef burgers, meatloaf, malts, and good old-fashioned milkshakes." - Jackie Gutierrez-Jones

Our first time to Mel’s. We love that they chose Nashville. Loved the atmosphere. Food was good portion size. My husband got the meatloaf, recommended. The carrots were a nice bonus. I got the patty melt. First time ever ordering that. It was very tasty. Couldn’t finish it, very rich. Loved borrowing my husband’s gravy for the fries. Shared a short stack of pancakes for dessert. The decaf coffee was the best I’ve had at a diner. Or any restaurant for that matter. The pancakes were fluffy and smelled like a funnel cake. And they have fresh juices! We will be back for sure! Btw, they’ve only been open for three weeks. It is empty now but when it catches on the line we’ll be out the door. So come sooner rather than later. Blake was very attentive! Thanks buddy!

We needed a good breakfast in Nashville, and went to a specific place that has a waiting time of an hour. I will not wait an hour for a breakfast, no matter how good. We ended up here, at Mel’s, and it was a good option. Waited about 5 minutes, and we were ready to eat. The place looks great. Nice vibes. Very big and modern- old fashion style. I liked it. The prices are acceptable. The food was good. Everything tastes fresh. I wanted more special sauce on my burger for additional flavor, but wasn’t bad. The coffee was good as well, and the service great. I recommend this place.

Shortly after we arrived we were greeted by the grandson of the founder of Mel’s. Then Blake was our waiter and took great care of us. The food was great, and of course I had to have a chocolate shake, which did not disappoint. The decor was a great blend of Mel’s historic theme as well as a modern feel that fits Nashville. Great atmosphere, we’ll be back… and if you’re reading this, you should get here too!

Mel’s Drive-In has officially expanded to Nashville from California for its very first out-of-state location—and the Grand Opening is Saturday, September 26th! To celebrate, they’re rolling back prices to 1947 with 50¢ Smash Burgers all day long 🍔✨ We’re lucky to welcome such a legendary family burger diner to Music City. Take it from me—you won’t be disappointed. From the mouthwatering menu and top-notch service to the desserts that seal the deal, Mel’s is the real thing! 📍 Location: 152 2nd Ave. N Nashville, TN 37201 Come hungry, leave happy—see you there! #NashvilleEats #MelsDriveIn #SmashBurgers #GrandOpening #NashvilleDining #Diner #Delicious

Really cute CLEAN friendly place! I wanted something healthy and the avocado toast was perfect! Good cofffee too! My husband had the hangover help her juice which was also really healthy a little spicy!

Cool new diner by Category 10. The Patty melt is fabulous and Blake was an outstanding waiter. Make sure to ask for him when you go in.

Mel’s was great, impeccably clean, with fast service! Would highly recommend! The chicken and waffles were amazing. Staff went above and beyond to make our brunch enjoyable. Will return when in Nashville!

Guys trip to Nashville. We popped into Mel’s for lunch on opening day and were treated like absolute royalty. Steve and Colton (Mel’s son and Grandson) made us feel like family and made many trips to our table for some good old fashioned salt of the earth conversation. The mozzarella sticks are next level. Batter dipped vs the standard breaded sticks you can get anywhere. Mel’s Smash burger was top notch: Danny the bartender is an absolute talent. I’m normally not deviating from Coors Lights. He convinced me to try the Pickelada Blood Mary, featuring Donna’s Pickled Beer. The best! We all agreed Mel’s is our crew’s official Nashville spot for years to come!

Yelp
Wonderful experience. This was my second time eating at Mel's, I had the Bomb burrito both times, it is very filling especially with the fruit as a side. I am not sure of the name of the hostess on my first visit but today Lilly was the hostess. She was very sweet and knowledgeable, got me to a table quickly and set my up with my beverages. Then my waiter Luis had my food on the table while it was still hot and checked on me often, keeping my coffee mug filled. The decor is a vibe and I love the mini jukebox on the table(the cost, 1 quarter!) If you are thinking of trying Mel's out, let this be a sign to DO IT DO IT DO IT.

Yelp
Ok we can all agree it's funny to have a drive in with no actual drive-in.... But besides that this place is pretty cool. The atmosphere is very relaxed. (That's a nicer way to say don't be in a hurry) the people working in the bar are very friendly but the best part is the food. This is a great lunch/brunch spot, my absolute favorite is the tuna melt sandwich. I keep coming back for that one! It's just a few steps from Broadway, they dont play crazy loud music and the food and drinks are good, give it a try!

Yelp
Food , service and that 50's ambiance .. The Nashville hot chicken and Waffles was great. The triple stack of pancakes with bananas a great breakfast combination. Mel's bomb breakfast burrito was a " bomb " not the best thing on the menu. Breakfast, lunch or dinner Mel's has got you covered . Mel's is on " open table " for those looking for reservations. I would return and everything was fresh & hot when plated to the table .

Yelp
I was so excited to have Mel's in Nashville as a native Californian. I can say the decor, aesthetic and the vibes are great! They are in a great location downtown and will be perfect for the area. Now the food was fine I guess. I got the Denver omelette and while the eggs were cooked well and the ingredients were good, it was kind of greasy. The hashbrowns too. I can admit they were busy on a Friday so I give them grace for that and the service was great. They were really nice and communicative so that is a great plus. I ordered a smoothie too and it was fine, wasn't mixed together well so I got a lot of separate flavors and not a blend. They did just open so maybe they are still working out the kinks. I would love to try them again in a bit and see how things go.

Yelp
Mel's Drive-In for breakfast on an NFL Sunday and it was a nice experience. First thing is the cleanliness. The restaurant and bathroom were so fresh and clean which always leaves a good impression. This place has a big menu so we will have to come back next time we're in town. This time we only had breakfast it it was delicious. We were also seated quickly and the service was great. Highly recommend this spot before your next game at Nissan Stadium. It's only a short walk away.

Yelp
We came to Mel's on a last minute dinner decision and they had no problem seating a party of 11 with no wait! The service was great, the vibe inside is awesome, and the food was really good! We also got the chance to meet Nate Smith and Tyler Hubbard ! Would definitely come back!! The menu is very reasonably priced as well.

Yelp
Man, I just realized this is my 2nd 5 star, I'm picky and snotty on restaurants, but this place was recommended by a friends, friend, the atmosphere was very cozy, everyone was friendly, the server was hilarious and great recommendations. The food was diner food, but nonetheless very tasty and good portions. Definitely a hidden gem.

Yelp
Who knew this little gem is now down on 2nd Ave. This restaurant pays homage to the old 50s diners and has an old 32 Ford Coupe (I think) at the entrance. They have little miniature juke boxes in each booth that takes quarters. The food came out pretty quick. I had a smash burger with potato salad, both of which were absolutely delicious. My wife had the short rib grilled cheese and sweet potato fries which she said was phenomenal. We want to try the breakfast here next!

Yelp
Very large diner with plenty of seating. Just a bit off the main drag so the lines weren't long at all to get in. Server was friendly and fast with our order. Overall the food was standard fare breakfast and priced affordably. I would certainly return. And yes, they had Mimosas.

Yelp
Spotted this new place in downtown Nashville when I went to a Titan' s game. Looked like a long wait, but we were seated before the time they quoted us. Menu had a variety of items that were great for breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner. Everything everyone ordered looked delicious, as I perused people's plates on the way to my seat. It was hard to decide what to get, but I went with the Patty Melt. I've had a lot of Patty Melts in my lifetime, and this has to be the best I've ever put in my mouth. I don't know what special ingredient (sauce) they put on it, but it made the sandwich stand out more than others! I opted to pay $2 more for sweet potato fries. They were made in house and a delicious accompaniment. I'm gonna suggest something kind of weird that I tried for the first time with the sweet potato fries, which was a creamy horseradish sauce. I have to say those two were a great combination, and I'll be asking for that as a sweet potato fry sauce in the future. To top off the meal, I got their $5 Pineapple Mimosa. Note:The alcoholic drink was only 5 cents more than a soda. I think that's high for a soda. So, I'll drink water, if I don't get Mimosas. Sorry, I have no pics. I was hungry and dug in, before I thought about photographing my food. I do recommend this place, and I plan to frequent more so. Oh, service can be slow and lacking. We were overlooked and had to bring it to someone's attention we hadn't been waited on, but we'll chalk it up to the place being new. They've only been open 2 weeks. Hope they are an establishment that's here to stay! It's a clean environment that makes you feel like you're at a drive-in~restaurant style.

Yelp
One of the better breakfast burritos I've had outside of San Diego. Insanely good crispy bacon, the crema that they served with it has a hint of spice it was perfect. I'll definitely be back. Finally a good breakfast burritos in Nash!!!!!!!!!!

Yelp
10/10! An iconic family owned restaurant in an excellent location! The food, ambiance and drinks were AMAZING! I got the classic Melburger, French fries & chocolate milkshake. Unreal good. Felt like I was back in the 1950's - every detail well executed. Can't wait to be back!!!

Yelp
As a downtown Nashville resident I can say enough enough great things about this place. Also, love a family owned business. I would have included a photo of food but it was so good I never got a photo

Yelp
Was very disappointed that the online menu was not the same as in the restaurant but the grilled cheese and patty melt were good but greasy. Service was good and restaurant decor was fun. Bring quarters so you can play the juke box from your table

Yelp
Great food, great service and great ambiance! Stumbled on this place just off of Broadway and loved it. Blake was an excellent server, and food was delicious. Our table had chicken tenders, a burger, onion rings, fries and fried green tomatoes- all were excellent! The perfect place to eat after having fun on Broadway. Would definitely go back!

Yelp
This place is a solid spot for burgers and fries. Their smash burger was better than what I was expecting, my waitress was very attentive to my needs, great service, and it had interesting decor. The only thing that detracted from it was the noise coming from the construction outside and the slightly high prices for their coffee

Christopher M.

Yelp
Wow what a great experience at Mel's Nashville! A southern diner done right!! The atmosphere has such a cool retro vibe to it, and the food was excellent! Peak Americana. 10/10 recommend whether you are local or just visiting!!!
