Azalina’s Expanding to Noe Valley for Malaysian Food in Former Contigo Restaurant Space - Eater SF

"The new address, just off 24th Street in Noe, was recently vacated by tapas restaurant Contigo, which departed last month after nearly a decade. Contigo owners Brett and Elan Emerson decamped to Santa Cruz, where they’re opening new Spanish restaurant, Barceloneta." - Caleb Pershan

We had a phenomenal experience at Memento SF! The food was outstanding, the cocktails were both creative and delicious, and the service was warm and attentive. Every dish, drink, and dessert was absolutely unforgettable. Highly recommend for anything from an intimate dinner to a larger gathering.

Outstanding Anniversary Dinner! We celebrated our anniversary at Memento in San Francisco’s Noe Valley and had an absolutely incredible experience! From the moment we walked in, we were impressed by the casual elegant atmosphere and beautiful artwork throughout the restaurant. Rafael, the owner, personally greeted and served us all evening. The thoughtful touches really stood out - there was an anniversary card waiting at our table and we were surprised with complimentary champagne to toast. This level of personal attention made the night feel truly special. Cocktails were exceptional: Defying Gravity (jalapeño tequila with passion fruit) - perfectly balanced with just the right amount of spice. Island In The Sun - like a refined piña colada with thyme, completely transparent thanks to their 4-day infusion process that Rafael explained. Food highlights: Truffle fries with truffle aioli - crispy and perfectly seasoned. Beef empanadas - crispy dough, flavorful filling, great carrot purée accompaniment. Millionaire Beef Tacos on blue corn tortillas - tender beef tenderloin, beautifully presented. Mussels with coconut curry sauce - this sauce was absolutely incredible, we took some home! The flan for dessert was the best I've ever had - thick custard texture with rich caramel. Everything was beautifully presented with pansy flowers that Rafael told us come from their own backyard. The meatball stroganoff was the only dish that didn't quite hit the mark for us - the sauce could have used more flavor. However, this could be that the garlic and truffle from the Truffle fries, affected my ability to taste well. As a special anniversary surprise, Rafael gifted us a slice of New York cheesecake that was absolutely perfect. His dessert wine pairing recommendation was also spot-on. We felt like royalty the entire evening. The combination of creative cocktails, mostly outstanding food, beautiful atmosphere, and exceptional personal service from Rafael made this an unforgettable anniversary dinner. We're already planning our next visit and will definitely be recommending Memento to friends and family!

Amazing spot! Make you stop by this local gem. The drinks were top-notch. Very creative, well-balanced, and expertly made. What really stood out was the warm, attentive hospitality from the staff. Truly made us feel welcome!

Had an amazing dinner experience with a large group of friends Friday night and everything we ordered was so delicious! We ordered the shishito peppers, empanadas, mussels, truffle fries, roasted salmon, crispy curry chicken, beets rigatoni, beef tacos & Portobello mushroom burger and every single dish came out fantastic & full of flavor! The service was top notch as well. The crafted cocktails and wine selection were incredible as well. I had the genie in a bottle cocktail and it was amazing! We also enjoyed sharing few desserts and all were so delicious! Had to come back on Sunday to try their brunch menu and it was so soo good! It was really hard to choose from the brunch menu since everything sounded so good, but I got to try the omelette, Avocado Toast with Burrata! Yummm… and finished our brunch with the brioche French toast. This is a hidden gem in Noe Valley and I am officially obsessed! Thanks Memento & team for the amazing back to back experiences this past weekend. I can’t wait to be back.

Incredible hidden gem in SF. This restaurant offers a perfect mix of cozy ambiance, excellent service, and phenomenal food and handcrafted cocktails. Every dish was flavorful and beautifully presented, from delicious drinks to starters to dessert. The staff was friendly, professional and knowledgeable, and the overall value was great. Highly recommended for any occasion! Thank you team Memento for a memorable experience 🙏❤️ We will back soon!

Google
We have enjoyed many wonderful meals and cocktails at Memento over the last two years. Suhair and Raf never disappoint! We always bring family and friends from out of town here and they are blown away by the food. The little gem salad and tuna appetizers are among our favorites! If you stay for dessert, the flan is also fantastic.

Google
fantastic restaurant, one of my favorites in all of san francisco. every dish is unique and the attention to detail is exceptional went for my moms birthday and it was perfect all around.

Google
Best Salmon I’ve Ever Had! It was hands down the best — perfectly seared, served with creamy carrot puree, and topped with crispy fried onions that added the perfect crunch. So flavourful, and the presentation was absolutely beautiful. The attention to detail in both the food and the service made our evening even more special. Such a special spot.

Yelp
Everything about this place is great. While it's a neighborhood place, it's 'world class'. The dishes are varied and amazing. And definitely fresh -- like, from 'my mom's garden', or "we got these on a trip to Monterrey". The service is amazing. The staff is really well versed in the food, of course, but interacting with them is a delight. Chef came out to say 'hi' t us. Really can't recommend it enough.

Yelp
A very long overdue 5-star review!! My cousin and I were having a really shitty day and needed a quick pick me up. We saw that Memento was just around the corner so we literally sprinted down the hill and snagged a table right away. Alfred was so kind and helpful as this was our first time here. We needed drinks and only wanted something small to munch on. I got the Memento Mori which was absolutely stunning and delicious - perfectly sweet and a tad tart. My cousin got the Pisco and it looked awesome, with the handprint effect! For a snack we got the truffle fries, and wow! I think these were the best truffle fries I've ever had. Thicker cut French fry and perfectly seasoned and topped with spices and cheese. And the sauce!!! The sauce was delectable! Alfred came to check on us often. He asked how our day was and we told him it'd been shitty (we told him why and what we just went through lol). He came back with a slice of cheesecake *tears!!!!* so kind and thoughtful!! It definitely put a smile on our faces. We'll definitely be back soon to try their entrees and brunch! Super cute spot for a girls day and/or date night!

Yelp
Memento, is undoubtably the best food in the area. And I'd make an argument for the whole city too. The food is truly great. When going in I knew I was expecting something higher quality, but wow does it really show. The food is absolutely incredible, it made me reconsider what good ingredient are and how I should be using them, because it's pretty too tier. I'm also not one to drink, so I had a mocktail. And I would absolutely recommend those. Even if you like to drink but are considering if you shouldn't for the night, just get a mocktail. I've been to Memento a few times, and I've tried a few of them (as well as trying one my friend got) and honestly they're all good. If I'm not mistaken I had one with passionfruit, which I'm usually not big on, but it was so good I'd recommend that one too. Another great factor of Memento is the staff and the owners. They are some of the kindest people and are one of the reasons I go back. Raf, one of the owners, is truly a great guy and seems to really care for the food and how top notch ingredients being used as well as the food quality, and it shows. As well he makes a great mocktail. I'm sure great cocktails too. Overall I would definitely recommend Memento. If there's any hesitance from prices, I'd seriously reconsider because from what I see the prices are going straight into the quality of the food, and not wasting anything in between. It's great food with great people, and I'd highly recommend.

Yelp
Excellent food, ambience and service. Will return again soon. This is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood

Yelp
Great service. Food was great! Nice wine list and wine pairings. Love love love love the guava cocktail. The passion fruit mousse was an amazing way to end the meal. Wasn't a fan of the salmon tartare, but the Chardonnay pairing really uplifted the dish. Date night ambiance. Street parking. We'll definitely be back. Thanks!!

Yelp
Memento is a true gem in all of San Francisco! Everyone must experience it! The food, the ambiance and the superb service! Raf and Suhair are without a doubt the most welcoming and precious hosts! They make you feel as if you are dining in their home. The cocktails and food are awesome and expertly conceived, created and presented to you at table. Memento is by far our favorite restaurant in San Francisco. We think you will understand once you have been there. Please reserve a table now. Raf and Suhair, a personal "Thank you!" for being you and for this wonderful culinary marvel you have created! Love, Doug and Paul

Yelp
While we all want to support local businesses, this one is hard to like. My $44.00 pork chop was overcooked; tough enough that I couldn't finish it. I advised the waiter who in turn reported to the proprietor. The only response was a shrug (no offer to remove the charge, no apology, no complementary drink or dessert, nothing). The wife's salmon was nice, though nothing special. The shoestring potatoes were fun. Overall, I can't recommend this place. The food is overpriced but not worth the trip.
google avatar

Yelp
We had their Memento Mori Cocktail (5/5), Salmon Tartare (4/5), Truffle Fries (5/5), Millionaire Beef Tacos (5/5), Mussels (4/5), and Flan (4/5). The millionaire beef tacos and Memento Mori Cocktail were exceptional! I highly recommend them. Service and ambiance were lovely. Our waiter was particularly funny and bubbly, which livened up our evening!

Yelp
Cool new spot in Noe for an upscale dining experience. Service was spectacular right from the time we got there and loved that they welcome everyone with a complimentary shot (tasty and not too strong). For appetizers we ordered the flatbread, salmon tartare, beef and cheese empanadas, and zucchini fries (special for that day). The salmon tartare was my favorite as it had a generous portions of salmon and avocado. The flat bread kind of reminded me of a soggy microwave pizza and was my least favorite. For mains we had the beet rigatoni and the curry chicken. I appreciated the originality and presentation of the rigatoni, but it was somewhat light in flavor. The curry chicken also felt like it was missing something. For desert we had the lime mouse and the flan. Both were excellent and were devoured in minutes. Overall, they have good food and even better service. We enjoyed our meal and would consider coming back.

Yelp
This has been an outstanding experience. We sat at the bar and ordered. - shishito peppers. Outstanding with an umami rich sauce - curry fried chicken - delicious - mussels - one of the best mussel dishes I have ever had - truffled fries - fantastic I cannot remember a better, tastier meal. 5 stars. Please come and support this restaurant. I want them to succeed. Noe Valley is the better for them being a part of this community! Outstanding. Also- a shout out to Alex behind the bar. He could not have been nicer! Wine was also outstanding!

Yelp
I came here to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and we had a wonderful time! The servers were extremely hospitable and very helpful is answering any questions we had. Because we were celebrating a birthday, we got a free cheesecake and a cutely signed card which really made our night! The ambiance was nice and romantic, perfect for a date night. Though the place is on the smaller side, they were still able to accommodate two big parties at once. The desserts were absolutely amazing! Caramel Flan - 5/5 thick and creamy and possibly the best flan I have ever had! This dessert is something you definitely shouldn't miss. Lime mousse - 4.5/5 delicious with a generous portion, but towards the end it became a little too sweet. The dessert is also quite tart at the same time so if you don't prefer sour desserts I would stay away from this one. Mussels - 4/5 a bit on the sour side, I personally didn't love them but my boyfriend enjoyed them a lot Mushroom burger - 4/5 big portion but the bun was a little dry Smash burger - 4/5 also a bit dry, but still good Overall, the food didn't blow me away (other than the desserts), but the service was so wonderful that I think they deserve 5 stars! A nice place for date night with easy to find parking on a Saturday night!

Yelp
What an amazing new restaurant in Noe Valley. The couple that own it are just lovely. Both working hard to see that the guests needs at taken care of. We sat at the bar and had dinner and wine. Our meals came on hot plates so that our food stayed the same temp through out. Portobello burger was perfect . My friend had the salmon and loved it. We also had the shishito peppers to start. The person next to us raved about the mussels. They are going to start live music every other Saturday . Did I mention that the outdoor patio is great! And the art on the walls is a lovely touch.

Yelp
This review is for the new weekend brunch service that began today! I had the French toast that came with a creative pandan crème and was delicious as well as a pretty presentation. My companion had the eggs Benedict soufflé that was accompanied by an arugula salad that was tasty judging by the few shared bites! The mixed berry mimosa was delicious. My request is to add a Bloody Mary beverage because I like a savory cocktail. The owners have designed the restaurant space to have a lovely vibe.

Yelp
We went here last night since we live a few blocks away. Service was 5 stars, never had to ask for anything but some of the menu items need to be reworked - our food was mediocre at best and a bit overpriced for what we got. Thai Curry Chicken was definitely missing something (it was very bland). Noticed someone else gave the same review but wasn't even acknowledged by the Manager. Wasn't a fan of the chickpea puree since it just made the already bland curry sauce even more bland. Could have used more vegetables and flavor in the curry sauce as well. Salmon was served with a block of beans which seemed like a strange choice instead of some seasonal vegetables or something with more flavor and color. It was a brownish piece of salmon with brown pile of refried beans.... Not sure we would go back here again.
google avatar

Yelp
Memento was by far the best restaurant we've been to in our two weeks in the City. The service was outstanding with a very cozy atmosphere. And the mussels were over the top extraordinary. Very full of flavor that I couldn't get enough of. Next time we are in town we are going back for sure. Excellent

Yelp
Having only tried their brunch, the food was middling. However, this place exists in service of its cocktails, which are worth coming in for a round 2 after a nice dinner.

Yelp
Amazing place! Staff is super friendly especially Alfred and Raf. Food is very clean and delicious and cocktails are out of this world. Totally recommend it!

Yelp
Great food! Amazing service! The staff was attentive. Try the filet. This place will take off soon, go before it's hard to get in.

Yelp
My filet mignon was dry and cold :( they also forgot my magarita but charged me :(. I would not reccomend coming here for sure.

Yelp
Just came with 4 people and everything was so so good. We shared the truffle fries, zaatar flatbread, millionaire tacos, tomato arugula salad for starters. Then we got a couple of the crispy chicken with curry and the pork chop and a bunch of cocktails. The food was so good that by the time I thought to take a photo, we had completely devoured everything. I'm not big on fries but the truffle fries were so seasoned, I wished that we ordered a second serving. The flatbread didn't skimp on the zaatar either. The crispy chicken curry dish was one of the most unique dishes I've had. It's hard to describe, instead of a polenta or a creamy grits base it was seasoned garbanzo beans like a ratatouille curry hummus mix. Something I'll try to replicate at home. Although we were all super full we pushed through and got the pandan cheesecake and some kind of chocolate mousse because we knew it was going to be delicious. It was the right choice even though I needed to roll myself out the front door. The service was great too. I will definitely come back especially for date night

Yelp
Lovely addition to the Noe dining scene, fun cocktails and good food, the art in the space adds a great touch.

Yelp
Such a lovely new addition to the neighborhood. We were seated at the bar and had a great time conversing with the owners and other patrons. Raf is an artist behind the bar and takes great care in his preparations, while Suhair is the life of the place! We had the Zucchini sticks and Salmon tartare for appetizers, the Crispy chicken was a main course followed by the Flan. Everything was delicious but the standouts for us were the Salmon tartare and the Flan. The drinks were also very well made and we will back here soon!

Yelp
Late dinner at a new restaurant called SF Memento and it was a wonderful experience. The restaurant had a mysterious and modern theme for its decoration. The food selection was great as well, with options like filet mignon, burgers and fries, and spicy shashito peppers. We also enjoyed a delicious bottle of Rocco red wine. The staff were friendly and the food was definitely worth the price which was around $110. Since it's a small restaurant, I highly recommend making a reservation.
google avatar

Rachele L.

Yelp
I moved to the neighborhood a few months ago and had been wanting to try this rest since then. Came here over the weekend after much anticipation. However, we were throughly underwhelmed. We started with the empanadas, got a mix of beef and cheese. The cheese empanadas were crunchy but very bland. I ordered the black cod and was shocked that a 2 oz price of fish and a pile of mushrooms goes for $40+. The fish was tasty but definitely not worth the price point. The table also ordered the crispy curry chicken, and while he said he liked the dish, mentioned nothing special and it was his least favorite part of the meal. We ended with the coconut fudge pie, which was tasty but super gooey. Our server was a bit odd, and had a hard time keeping his eyes open. When asked questions about the menu, his only response was "it's really good" but couldn't give any other information. The inside was all grey, not very inviting. I had super high hopes in this place and perhaps that's why I was extra disappointed. I don't see myself coming back and couldn't recommend to anyone.

Zena K.

Yelp
Was looking for somewhere new to try with my partner and I stumbled upon this gem! Service was warm and friendly, ambience was very sleek, and overall we were more than satisfied with all the dishes we got. Even though I loved everything we ate, I'll forsure be thinking about the filet mignon and coconut fudge cake long after this meal! We most certainly will be back and are so excited to try the other dishes this restaurant has to offer! Definitely a restaurant worth checking out!
google avatar

Ashley N.

Yelp
This is IT! The perfect neighborhood eatery. The food is delicious. Approachable but elevated. And you MUST save room for dessert... We were lucky enough to be invited to the soft opening. Now I can't wait to be here every Friday after work for snacks and cocktails!

Lorraine T.

Yelp
All of the drinks look fabulous. I love the atmosphere and music as well. The food was pretty good!

Yelp
We were lucky enough to experience Memento SF opening week and it was very special. They have a great location with easy parking (which is not easy in the city). I'll start off with the list of creative and delicious cocktails that they have are top notch, it was so difficult to decide which one to try first, my personal favorit Black Noir, a smoky and unique drink , I wanted more. I had the Salmon Tartare and the Crispy curry chicken AMAZING and I was able to try more that were delicious. Overall it was an amazing experience, great restaurant , ambiance and service. Date night or dinner with friends this place is great.

Merv W.

Yelp
Easily one of the best meals I've had in years. I had the Pad-Thai Salad and Crispy Curry Chicken. I'm only in town for 6 days, and I'll be going back to Memento before I leave town. An all-time favorite restaurant. Simply phenomenal.
google avatar

Janna D.

Yelp
Memento is my new fav! Food is my love, cocktails are my passion. I came here for a girls night out, after waiting to patiently for them to open. The restaurant was pretty busy for a Thursday and I can see why. The staff is super hospitable! Right away we were welcomed with a Memento Mori "shot" cocktail. So delish! I then ordered a Ghost Rider because the name is too cool not to. I was so pleasantly surprised when it came out. The skeleton like hand print on the top was awesome and so fitting for the name. Taste was clean and balanced. Appetizers ordered were Za'atar flatbread, empanadas. salmon tartar(my favorite) and the truffle fries. All were delicious. After apps I ordered a drink called the Green Dragon. Again, the name was enticing. The drink the not disappoint! For entree, I ordered the Salmon with smashed fava beans. SO YUM! Friends ordered the rigatoni and curry chicken. I can't say anything negative about either. All entrees were filing and well balanced. For dessert we ordered the lime mousse and coconut fudge pie. My preference was the lime mousse just because I like to end on a very refreshing note but that being said the coconut fudge pie was decedent. The owner Raf was so sweet and hospitable, I can't wait until the next time I come back!
google avatar

Jessica B.

Yelp
Lovely staff and service and the drinks were amazing but the food was just okay. I really want them to be successful but the flavors need some punch. The rigatoni was wild but pretty good. Steak was good not great. The chicken was pretty good. Beef tacos were our favorite app. Dessert we didn't order but the offerings seemed odd too.

Lorraine V.

Yelp
What a great addition to the Noe Valley restaurant scene. We visited Memento last evening and were treated to one magnificent dining expeience. The service is outstanding. The atmosphere exquisite - the dinnerware and glassware very special. All presentations were explained and the flavors just so unique - my daughter started with theOyster Shooter and the glass the waiter explained was 1920 and how he searched for them. Moved along to the Gem salad again unique and full of flavors. Entree was salmon with a carrot mousse and muhsrooms topped with carmelized shallots. Dessert the NY cheesecke with a sauce so divine I can't even describe. I highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to returning.
google avatar

Yelp
Food, drinks, service were all excellent! Alfred's specials were a stand out for sure!
google avatar

Yelp
Memento was a great spot to meet a friend for drinks and dinner. It has a cozy chic vibe, shareable plates, and amazing cocktails. The mussels are the best I've ever had with a decadent, creamy sauce made of Thai coconut milk, white wine, lime and curry. The Salmon Tartare was great with the avocado on the bottom and ponzo aioli plus the side of crispy, fried empanada chips. We also really liked the Crispy Skin Salmon which had great flavor and went so well with the side of fava bean purée. The coconut fudge pie was fine but a little chewy for me. I personally loved the cocktail menu as there were so many inventive, soju-based drinks. We ordered two of the sweeter, fruitier ones, the Berry Me and the Holiday on the Moon (topped with a cookie!) They were also low-ABV though they tasted so good that I definitely drank more than usual.

Kim M.

Yelp
Had a mid-day brunch Saturday in honor of Mother's Day. Great small space with lovely artwork. Music was a little loud for my parents. We especially loved the Squid Ink Risotto Mussels and Mortadella Sandwich and Fries. Service was great. We were curious about Soju Vodka and surpringly received a taste for each of us before we left. Please post your brunch menu so I can share it with my friends!
google avatar

Sergio H.

Yelp
I had a crazy good experience here. The food just hit different. The staff is very cheerful and kind. The ambiance is nice here.
google avatar

Sonia S.

Yelp
Came with some friends on a Thursday night. We made a reservation ahead of time, which I would recommend because it's a small space. We were greeted with a shot of a specialty drink of theirs, which was very nice. We ordered a variety of appetizers- loved the Shishito peppers and the zucchini fries (off the menu). I ordered the salmon as my main and my boyfriend got the rigatoni. The salmon was solid, but if I could order only one thing again, I'd get the beet rigatoni- it was the perfect combination of flavors!
google avatar

Kelsey S.

Yelp
My partner and I happened upon this restaurant by chance and I am so glad we did! Walking in we immediately remarked on the aesthetic and how it was our kind of spot. We had cocktails and a small bite at the bar, and both left a big impression! Every member of staff that we interacted with were so attentive and kind, and made us feel as if we were old friends. Absolutely looking forward to our next visit!

Yelp
It's all about the details... We really enjoyed our first dining experience at Momento SF. The service from the second we approached the door to the moment we walked out was impeccable. It really felt like fine dining service within a neighborhood spot. The comfy space felt both fresh and intimate. I'm a fan of a smaller unique menu filled with thoughtful dishes over a fluffed menu that tries to please the masses. The amuse-bouche-like beverage arriving shortly after sitting down was great to sip while perusing the menu. The food was beautifully presented and delicious. Momento SF is a much needed addition to the Noe Valley neighborhood. We look forward to supporting this new business in the very near future.
google avatar

Tiffany M.

Yelp
Delicious! The food has a unique flavor that all blends together beautifully. The presentation is spectacular. The cocktails are super different and comes with a fun twist with the garnishing and design. A lot of fun, you want to try all of them. The decor is stunning and I like the soft lighting. The beef tacos to start and the rigatoni was yummy and I am excited to try more. A nice place for a date, a celebration or just because. So glad this special restaurant is in the neighborhood.
google avatar

Sam T.

Yelp
This was such a treat! I came here to celebrate my partner's birthday. Memento is somewhere where you can talk, eat, and enjoy the good ambiance. I was so immersed in conversation and the food that I didn't get a chance to snap a picture of the food or bar! :) The service was impeccable: they are extremely friendly and attentive here. I ordered the Portobello Mushroom Burger and it came with Truffle fries. The brioche bun was so tasty. And the fries were thin cut, delicious, and topped with a sprinkle of cheese. Would order again, because the burger was good but the fries blew my mind. What a great addition to Noe Valley.

Ivan K.

Yelp
Awesome cocktails. Highly recommended. Ok I have to write something else because of the stupid yelp rule.
google avatar

Josh M.

Yelp
Great food, engaging service, super cool ambiance. The owner was working behind the bar and provided fascinating conversation all night while serving up delicious food and wine with a Brazilian panache.
google avatar

Ish H.

Yelp
Went here on a date with my wife very nice place with excellent music. But really the food was out of this world. Everything had a lot of flavor and the staff was very friendly. Hidden gem !

Dr F.

Yelp
One of the dumbest things a restaurant can do is to accept reservations and then be closed. Not only did they accept the reservation, but they had nothing on their window or website and their voicemail was a generic "please leave a message" with no information or explanation that they were closed. Sadly, they are in a location that can use something but this experience gives me reason to not attempt them ever again. I'd they can't do the Simple things, who knows what their food and service will be like. Very disappointed to say the least
google avatar

Seema G.

Yelp
It was a nice friendly experience. The restaurant is on the small side, it felt a little too tight the way the tables are positioned, but the food was well prepared and nicely presented. I enjoyed muscles, truffle fries, curry chicken. Recommend this restaurant for a nice night out.

Project M.

Yelp
Great food and great people! such a lovely environment and atmosphere. Once again the food is amazing go here if you haven't already!

Yelp
we stop by and everything was on point food 10/10 Drinks 10/10 service 10/10 We definitely will come back, the bartender Ernesto is so approachable, charming and he knew how to sell every item on the menu, he's defi an asset to this location Ambiance so cool and the owners are amazing

Yelp
We stopped by for some drinks and bites and had a great time. Amazing bar service provided by Ernesto. Will definitely be back.
