What was once the site of a prominent bakery, now exists as Memmo Alfama, a posh boutique hotel located in the Alfama neighbourhood of Lisboa. The decor is inspiring. The staff, genuine and sincere... A very helpful lot. There was no shortage of warmth and hospitality.
The hotel is nestled away on a hill that cannot be seen from the main road, so you'll need to be vigilant and keep an eye out for the [very small] sign. You'll eventually make a turn onto a very beautiful alley, paved with nice little bricks that will unleash the gates of hell upon your feet. So, wear sneakers--especially if you plan on visiting Saint George Castle (Castelo de São Jorge) soon thereafter.
The decor is chic. And the shower is "FREAK". (And that's all that I'm going to say about that.)
Oh, and the pillows! Each bed is set with two groups of three pillows: one small, one medium, and one large.
Breakfast is hearty. Fresh milk, whole fruit. Bread. Freshly cut meatlets. Cutlets. Whatever. Cereal, granola, assorted seed that runs the gamut. Pumpkin, chia, and a bunch of other sh*t I don't eat, but probably should. This all takes place in a postmodern chic dining area replete with wood flooring, pre-1960s era appliances, and a view of the port.
With post card-worthy views, a location most travellers will find central, and guest rooms built for the utmost level of comfort, Memmo Alfama both met and exceeded our expectations. We enjoyed our stay here, and would not hesitate to book another stay in the future.
