In the intensive care unit (ICU), it is expected that the highest standards of care should be maintained. However, the communication between nurses, doctors, and patients is often inadequate and subpar. The time it takes to respond to a bed change, even after pressing the nurse button, can be excessive, resulting in patients resting in their own waste. This practice contributes to the development of infections.
Since no one came to assist my wife and me, we decided to change my son by ourselves. We completed the task to the best of our abilities, but during the doctor’s rounds, I informed them that we had not received any consultation about my son’s surgery, which had taken place 11 hours prior. Their response was that they would inform us. In any profession, this is unacceptable behavior. I genuinely appreciate the doctors who upheld their oath of helping patients. It is unfortunate that nurses and doctors do not exhibit the same bedside manner and believe that their work is merely a job rather than a career dedicated to improving the lives of their patients.
