We stopped in Santar on our way back from the north and had a garden tour with a wine tasting. As part of the tour of several gardens, Ana, the guide, told us there was a new restaurant and hotel that had just opened next to one of the gardens and recommended it for lunch - we are so glad that she did!
We had an amazing lunch on the terrace of the restaurant, starting with the smoked eel and the cauliflower hazelnut romesco. We followed that with the mushroom risotto and the pumpkin salad, and finally a peach tart with lemon thyme - the food was spectacular. The service was great, attentive and helpful in discussing the products and allergies, and the manager Filipa spoke to us a few times to make sure all was well and to tell us about the restaurant.
The restaurant terrace opens on to the vineyard and was well shaded. This is definitely worth a stop if you are passing by - and we look forward to dining there again soon!
