Went here with my family. The wait wasn't bad for a Sunday, service was good enough and the atmosphere was what you'll expect in a barbecue spot. The food was overall good. The Mac n Q with brisket, Catfish, Bird n Bones, Salmon was a solid 7/10. The dish that was lacking was the meatloaf. It was not good and this is coming from someone who would eat just about anything. 2/10 The peach cobbler was very sweet and syrupy so I wasn't a fan. Overall, good place to go with your family or Large group since they have the 2 large platters as well.

Google
So I went in hoping this was going to be done great BBQ. Boy was I wrong. The staff was nice and the environment was great and alive but the food was severely lacking. When it came out it looked ok at first glance then I realized the pile of chopped stuff to the left of my plate was supposed to be the pork belly burnt ends. It was more like thick-cut bacon with sauce on it. The fat is supposed to melt in your mouth when you bite into it and the meat is supposed to have a nice soft smooth feel when biting into it. This was not the case. The brisket was dry and stiff. When you have great brisket it should fold over without breaking and still have moisture in it. This was almost like holding a piece of jerky in my hand. The fat that was on it still wasn't tender either. It did have a decent smoke ring but not much flavor plus they put sauce on it before I could even taste the brisket first. This should have been a giveaway sign to me. A place should always leave the brisket without sauce first so the customer can enjoy the flavor of the seasonings and smoke first then if they want add sauce. The green beans tasted like just boiled with onions and that's it. As for the red beans and rice. I've had better at Popeyes. The only decent thing was the cornbread. It wasn't dried out and falling apart. It held its shape and had a nice taste to it. Overall I was extremely let down. I paid almost 28 bucks for the meal and didn't even eat half of it. I took the rest with me but threw it away. I didn't want to seem mean to the lovely waitresses that had helped me. I did leave a to as she deserved it. Also, they do offer free pork rinds which were decent as well for what they were. For my first time trying BBQ in Mississippi, it was a disappointment.

Ok, If you're going to Mississippi or Memphis or on your way to some other destination, I highly recommend coming and trying the best BBQ food I have ever had the pleasure of tasting with variety and excellent prices, family atmosphere and very juicy... now I understand why the fame and also Melissa has won so many awards for running a restaurant with such quality and service in addition to the attention to diners... recommended 💯

We went at peak lunch hours on a Saturday the place was pretty packed. We were seated fast, and the food came out in less than 20 mins. They had the best nachos we have ever had. Actually, there are so many toppings. The ribs and smoked chicken was absolutely amazing. Can't wait to come back.

Google
This restaurant definitely deserves a 5-star rating for its BBQ offerings! We ordered the Pitmaster sample, which included BBQ ribs, brisket, and a 1/4 chicken, all with extra BBQ sauce (muddy style). My husband finished his plate so quickly, and I absolutely loved the BBQ ribs. The meat was incredibly tender and practically fell off the bone, complemented by a deliciously classic smoky sauce. I personally focus on BBQ when dining at a BBQ restaurant, so my review is based solely on that. If you happen to try other items like fried foods or seafood, your experience might differ, but for BBQ lovers, this place is a must-visit!

Leighanna Hafeman

Google
Best ribs I've ever had! Make sure to get them "muddy" so you get the best of both the rub and sauce! Getting seated took a few more minutes than expected due to how busy they were (it was about 2:30pm, so you know it's good if they are busy during this time frame!), however, the service and atmosphere was great , and the food was absolutely amazing! Everyone got something different, and we all loved everything!! I unfortunately forgot our server's name, (she had a pink sparkly order pad) but she was as awesome as the food! Thank you for a wonderful first experience at Memphis Barbeque!!

Google
My family and I stopped by this fine establishment to chow down on some good BBQ. Everything was exceptional and they were even able to seat a party of 21 people together to my surprise. We started with the fried green tomatoes and wings. Both were a hit and the Pitmaster Sampler was also delectable. If you're in the vicinity of this place, stop in and give them a try. You won't be disappointed.

Google
Excellent BBQ spot! Good portions. Rib meat falls off the bone. Other meats perfectly cooked and seasoned. Pork rinds with sauces were awesome. Service was meh. Host staff was very friendly and quick to greet us and get our group, but server was slow and did not check on us until it was time for the bill.

Rochelle 'Shella' T.

Yelp
Good food, greats service, and lively atmosphere. We came here looking for a good place to eat after visiting Graceland Mansion. W saw that this place was highly recommended. We were curious about their award-winning pork ribs. It was very good. We ordered the Grand Champion Platter. We got to try the roasted chicken, ham, pulled pork, and cornbread. It came with French fries, smashed potatoes, and rice and beans. It was delicious! I hope I can go back to try their beef brisket.

Yelp
If we could give 1/2 stars, this would be a 3.5. We stopped in here on the recommendations from a coworker who's sister lives in the area. Around 6:00 PM on a Friday night, we were all set to fly out the next morning to Disney-world. Greeting was genuine, friendly and was not a wait. We were seated and within few minutes told "we will be right with you". Server was real and answered all of our questions. No alcohol was purchased, only Sweet tea by our party. (3) Wife does not care for BBQ, only Ribs, and that was too heavy for this visit. She got the Salmon (again, went here based on recommendations) my MIL got a loaded Potato w/ Chicken, and at last myself got the Burnt Ends with some fries. We were sitting there talking about our plans for the vacation starting the next morning, & waitress comes back to say "Out of Salmon". (Did I mention this was a Friday and only 6P) Wife was disappointed, mainly cause this is the only reason we came in there that night. Asked waitress between Voodoo Pasta, and the Pork-chops which was recommended? Waitress said she preferred the pasta, and my wife likes spicy anyways, so she got that. Food comes out relatively fast, which is plus anywhere these days, and now the reviews. Wife's Voodoo Pasta was decent, not a show stopper, and was not what she called spicy... Loaded Chicken Potato was cold, and had to be sent back to Kitchen. Not the fault of the wait staff, but throws off our experience due to now one person has to wait on their food. Second attempt was good, she ate most of it, and said it did have good flavor. It was great. Burnt Ends w/ Fries, was actually a sandwich, so I misread it obviously, since I thought that it came with Texas Toast, not on the toast. It was pretty good, but I needed to drown this in sauce. In my opinion, flavor supposed to be the star, and it fell just a little short of it. Would we go back, maybe, but only if they had the Salmon when we walked in doors. So that's going to knock our chances down.

Marissa C.

Yelp
Man, them bbq chicken nachos...chefs kiss! I've been coming here, whenever, about 10 years and the food is always good and tasty. The sauces- that Sassy BBQ sauce is very good. The service is great; the staff is always kind. The ambiance is nice; just come to eat lol. And don't be tryin to eat cute neither!

Kevin N.

Yelp
Fantastic food!! I had the half-rack of ribs with turnip greens and red beans & rice. All were outstanding. Fantastic cornbread. The best of all was the superior service I received from my waitress Lamaya S. She was kind and polite, very knowledgeable about the menu and provided fast and efficient service. For great barbecue and service go to Memphis Barbecue Co!!

Josh T.

Yelp
Once I saw the donut burger on the menu there was no going back. I was pleased when the waitress affirmed my decision. It did not disappoint. This is an iconic location with amazing bbq. Don't miss it if you're in North Mississippi or Memphis Area.

Nate L.

Yelp
This place has amazing barbecue, as evidenced by all the trophies displayed. We really like that they bring you a basket of fresh and hot pork rinds after you sit down. We came in just after lunch, so they were a little quieter than the 1st time we stopped in. My wife had the Pulled Pork sandwich, and I went with the Smoked half Chicken. The place has SO MANY delicious sides that you can't go wrong with any of them! The servers here are friendly and very helpful in guiding you through the menu. We really like Memphis Barbecue, and we will be stopping here again!

Marissa J.

Yelp
I came to Memphis for a basketball game and I was told I had to stop here to try the barbecue. I have to say it didn't disappoint. I got the pulled pork sandwich. It came out without any sauce on it for you to choose your own. I used all of the sauces and I really liked each one of them. I also like the taste of the coleslaw I decided to get it on the side. The baked beans were great as well. I tried the ribs and I have to say I really love the rub on the ribs. It was very tasty. This is a big restaurant so there's a lot of room and a good space for a bigger groups. You have to get the banana pudding as well. I got mine to go and enjoyed it over the past two days and I have to say it was one of the best banana puddings I've ever had. The food did take a little bit to come out, but it wasn't too long. They also have pork rinds that they give out before your food comes, but unfortunately, we didn't get any. I will definitely be back the next time I'm in Memphis.

Bobbie I.

Yelp
Food was mediocre.. the Burn ends were tiny!!! Service wasn't great... went for a work lunch and was not overly impressed. The front staff was not super friendly .. they came off as rude when purchasing a shirt.

MC S.

Yelp
This was a treat. We were staying in the area one night as it is close to the airport. One of the cleanest restaurants I have been in. Food was fantastic! Highly recommend. I wanted to try it all!

Hillary P.

Yelp
Yum! A must when in this neck of the woods. A dedicated parking lot makes for easy access. We were there just before the dinner rush at 5 PM and were immediately; due to their popularity note that wait times can be a problem at this location during peak hours so plan accordingly or be patient! The restaurant is cozy barbecue decor with a large indoor dining room, bar seating, and limited seating in an enclosed outdoor area. The selection of local beers (no menu so you will need to do a deep dive here when inquiring with your server) but no other alcohol is available. A nice section of southern tea is available that can be ordered by the gallon! Our server was very pleasant and readily took care of refills. This particular restaurant team is known for its award winning smoked barbecue. Of all the items we taste, the ribs were definitely our favorite, with the smoked sausage coming in right after that. Brisket was tasty and had a nice smoke line, but was surprisingly a little bit dry. Our favorite sides were definitely the house beans and coleslaw. Great house salad with homemade dressings is available. Definitely recommend Memphis barbecue if you're in the mood!

Terri M.

Yelp
The Nachos were fantastic!!! The service was great!!! Our waiter went above and beyond. We didn't have to ask for any refills. "HE CAME THRU!!! HE SHOWED UP!!!" The atmosphere was pleasant. It didn't take long to get our food.

Michelle L.

Yelp
Great smell upon entering so had high expectations for the food. Clean interior and friendly attentive staff helped make the meal pleasurable. Had the 2 meat plate with 2 sides and for the most part it was delicious. The pulled pork was fork tender and had a good flavor, sausage was in my opinion a little too mushy so didn't finish it. The bbq beans were excellent and so full of flavor but the potato salad was a big miss for me due to it having a very unusual taste that I just couldn't figure out what it was. Their cornbread will melt in your mouth and make you want more along with the hot fresh pig skins.

Robert W.

Yelp
Food was great, but a little on the pricier side. Ordered ribs dry (no sauce) they had a great rub and good smoke flavor. Chicken was good with smoke tender meat and crispy skin. Cornbread was a little dry and turnip greens were over watery, but overall the part that mattered (the meat) was excellent. Will definitely return.

Michelle G.

Yelp
We are major bbq snobs! We smoke a lot of meats ourself & I don't even know where to start! AMAZING! This is probably the best bbq we've ever eaten! Fun energy & great atmosphere ! Our server both times was fabulous(yes, we had to go back for seconds lol) huge parking lot, clean restrooms & the friendly staff!

Angela N.

Yelp
The food is great 90% of the time. Service is generally great. The ambiance is reminiscent of a cafeteria. It is so loud the majority of the time you can't hear the conversation at your own table. That's the only drawback.

Randall R.

Yelp
Great service & award winning bbq did not disappoint. Pitmaster platter was huge with muddy ribs covered in sauce and then sprinkled with rub. Also tried the pulled pork sandwich & the Memphis burger

Jamie R.

Yelp
Katelyn has the best service anyone could ever ask for she was very professional and kind. thank you so much!

Lisa J.

Yelp
It just wasn't that good. This place was on the way home from the Airport to my son's house. We had just arrived in Memphis and wanted bbq. The staff was very nice. The food was packed nicely, but the quality wasn't fabulous.

A E.

Yelp
Location: Easy to get to, parking is safe and secure. Service: Good and friendly. Appeared clean. Food: Memphis burger was awesome. 6oz of beef and 6oz of pulled pork. You can request slaw and BBQ sauce on the side. The fries did not steal the show, but that's okay. Because their Memphis Burger was perfect, would not change a thing!

John D.

Yelp
The food here has been great each time we've been. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly. We'll be back

The B.

Yelp
Baked potato with pork loaded was good! Mac and cheese with brisket was okay. The Mac could have been cheesier. I've had better at home. The loaded nachos was amazing we got chicken! I loved that they brought out pork skin!! Our server was such a sweet lady and made sure we were taking care of! Will definitely go back.

Michael F.

Yelp
We just wanted some pulled pork so we ordered a pound of meat by itself. Excellent! Great flavor and texture.

McKena T.

Yelp
This place is sooo good!!! Darin helped us out and he did not disappoint! He led us in the best direction for selections and absolutely great experience! Great BBQ

Beth S.

Yelp
Lordy be, I love the BBQ nachos. Heaven!! Everything here is always excellent. The service is always friendly and knowledgeable. We always bring out-of-town guests here. It's a winner.

Stacy G.

Yelp
Oh my was this good! Bbq dry rub was delicious, ribs were tender. Someone in my party is still taking about the chicken.

Maricris I.

Yelp
So I usually stop at this place every time I'm heading down to NOLA. Service is great but my favorite waiter is NoVE I think that his name. Super friendly and extremely fast. The place is nice with plenty of space and nice atmosphere. The food is good! My favorite is the burnt end and ribs of course! I love the corn bread is different in a great way! And the cool thing they give you pork rinds when you fist arrive! This is the place to stop!

Blake T.

Yelp
Excellent service food was awesome. Did not go away hungry but did have to wash my hands a couple of times. Recommend getting it muddy.

Peter K.

Yelp
Quick friendly service, standard bbq ambience, great food. I had the championship ribs - fall off the bone and delicious. My coworker had the chopped brisket and smoked turkey. Save room for the bread pudding with ice cream - it's worth it!

Nicholas W.

Yelp
Absolutely phenomenal, great service, great ambiance. Incredible BBQ. We we walked in at 11:40am and walked out by 12:04. Highly highly recommend.

Blake W.

Yelp
Don't miss out on this place! Great food and great service. It's also very reasonable priced. The best brisket I have ever eaten.

Svelte M.

Yelp
This was our first time at Memphis BBQ. It was amazing! I wish we knew the name of the gentleman that took our order. He was SO nice and welcoming. He gave us great recommendations. We had the "muddy" ribs, mac and cheese, baked beans, brownie, banana pudding and bread pudding. Every. Single. Thing. was absolutely delicious. We had never had such meaty ribs and the flavor is something you will never forget. We're definitely going back the next time that we're in Southhaven!!!!!

Giselle E.

Yelp
Southern comfort eating here for sure. Overall they were good but not the best I've had. The pulled pork was a little fatty for my liking and I could only eat about half the portion they gave me. My friend liked the ribs and sides but also said they weren't the best he's had but still good. Sadly the veggies had zero seasoning or flavor and over cooked. The French fries were really good.

Martin H.

Yelp
I met a couple of friends here for dinner last night. There was a wait, not always a bad sign, but after about a 40 minute wait we were seated. Our waitress took our drink orders, but got them wrong. After making the necessary changes, we each ordered the combo platter, including pulled chicken and pork, chopped and sliced brisket and a variety of sides including coleslaw, baked beans, and collards. It disappoints me to think that ALL of this food is already prepared (that's not the bad part), but it takes over 30 minutes to get the food (which was originally at least kind of hot) to the table when it's served almost cold. Our waitress I guess forgot our food? She didn't return until she gave us the check. The assumption that all you need is a fork to cut the sliced brisket is misguided. A knife please! The pulled pork was good, the only thing where the portion size was reasonable. The table side BBQ sauces, there are 3, a kinda spicy, a bold and a regular offer additional flavor but honestly both look and taste so similar, it doesn't really matter which one you squirt over your plate. With just a 2 meat 2 side platter and a soda, with tax and tip you're looking at just over $30. That isn't very good value for the portion size, the overall quality and the mediocre service. There are a lot of other BBQ restaurants around and this one, for me, isn't one of my favorites.

Sherrie E.

Yelp
Let me start by saying how rude the owner/manager was today. My daughter and some friends took a day trip to Memphis and stumbled upon this place thinking it would be a great experience. They were met with everything, but that from Cruella DeVille the owner herself. She first started about how she didn't want to serve them and telling them they were ignorant to want to eat off of plastic wear instead of metal utensils. While this place may look nice online. I would never spend my heart earned money with such a negative Nancy of a business owner. I am a nurse and business owner myself. It is my suggestion to the owner in the future to treat people how she would like to be treated. Poor customer service was the only thing delivered on today and I hope that her business will suffer from her behavior if she does not take accountability and change her nasty attitude.

Tom W.

Yelp
Holy cow, hole cow and holy cow. This is the holy grail of BBQ. So good went for dinner and returned for lunch the next day. Had the brisket and pulled pork. Tried all the sauces. Like the BOLD the best. And brought some home. Laid back atmosphere. Great service and awesome food. Looking forward to a return visit

Ben S.

Yelp
It's a maybe. The food is ok-ish. Not the best, not the worst. The state of the restaurant is below average (slippery floors, restroom is dirty, etc), and the service and staff follows the same (below average). Sat at the bar, but the bartender was overwhelmed and had no assistance. The staff that joined her occasionally barely made an effort. The atmosphere is LOUD! Not in an ok way - but a few really loud booths and small kids screaming everywhere. Also, weirdly lots of people were on long cell phone communications on speakerphone and video. Not fast catchups / like a whole dinner date type of scenario. No headphones - just loud talking. So annoying. I haven't been here in years and decided to give it another shot. I'm good for a few more years - or more. In summary - go if you need barbecue and it's the only choice. Otherwise, skip it.

Tanya T.

Yelp
Great food and service. Brisket was great. Turkey was good. Sides were awesome. My sister had catfish and loved it.

Chris C.

Yelp
Best BBQ I've ever had. Rib's were perfection. Fell right off the bone and the combo of rub with sauce ratio made for the perfect flavor. The sides were all outstanding as well. I travel all over the country for work and this is without a doubt the best I've had in years if not the best I've ever had. I ate so much I couldn't walk out of the place.

Ashley C.

Yelp
Service was great! All questions answered. App: Fried green tomatoes, well seasoned, loved the sauce they came with - they did hold more grease than I'd like to see 4.5/5 Sides: Loaded smashed potatoes: very good, well seasoned the "loaded" was well loaded for only 0.50. I typically dislike red potatoes but these were perfect! Okra was super well fried and flavorful no extra oils. Mac and cheese we almost skipped on, but it was great had a creamy cheesy flavor. Baked beans were just like bushes! Corn bread was moist and flavorful Spare ribs gone muddy were crunchy on the outside and fall off the bone tender inside. Brisket was good on the leaner side yet still moist. Burnt ends - were not Texas style - more like chopped beef, would skip if I went back. For my taste buds, the Sauces were not needed and very runny with a strong vinegar flavor. Original was sweet vinegar, Sassy was in your face vinegar flavor, Bold was the only one I kind of liked it had vinegar flavor with lots of black pepper. Sad we didn't get dessert but they had a nice assortment, even had seasonal specials.

Ken L.

Yelp
Yummy food, great atmosphere, and terrific service from Darren. That guy deserves a raise!

Tonya H.

Yelp
Food was good. Wasn't into the German Potato salad The food was hot and The Server was on time and kept out glasses filled and the atmosphere was family and inviting.

Jasmine M.

Yelp
It was good wish it was wet liked I asked. Barbecue sauce could be better. It was on the watery side and not really a good barbecue sauce

Dianna S.

Yelp
My nephew was flying into Memphis via the MEM airport so we decided to dine here after his plane arrived. Next time we may need to decide on a different place right before Thanksgiving. Not sure if they were short staffed or the fact we came an hour and a half before closing. Service was not as attentive as it usually has been in the past. We did have a large party of people and I did see many come to pick up take out orders and two other large parties while we waited for the rest of our family. Food was still pretty good. I had a brisket sandwich. I was one of the few that was able to have my order fulfilled. Many others did not receive the brisket because the restaurant ran out. They also ran out of mac and cheese and salmon. Many in my family were not happy campers. They found other items to order in place of their original order. I had fries for my side which were meh. My sandwich was okay. The pork rinds always make me happy. Our server seemed to be overwhelmed but she did try to do the best she could. Seemed she was given more tables than she could handle. Another server did come to apologize about all the unavailable foods. Parking is always pretty easy to maneuver. Past visits were much better than Wednesday when we dined but I will still come back but not during the holiday.

Alton C.

Yelp
I flew into Memphis airport and found that this BBQ spot was only about 20 min drive, so went to try. Came here and ordered the pitmaster sampler with muddy ribs, sliced brisket, burnt ends, baked beans and smashed potatoes for sides. Visiting from California, I was imagining the BBQ here would be decent, but it was pretty underwhelming. The brisket was dry, bbq sauce was a runny sauce and not too flavourful. The ribs were tender, but dry. Not worth a repeat trip in my opinion.

Ron F.

Yelp
Good food thats not cheap so be prepared to pay a good amount of money. Looks lile a barbecue restaurant inside Service was good back when we went.

Abigail H.

Yelp
My boyfriend, who has been attending UTHSC College of Medicine for 4 years, has chosen this as his favorite place in the Memphis area to get BBQ. Before his graduation, he brought me here for take out. We got the smoked turkey, smoked pulled chicken, smoked pulled pork, and a rack of ribs 1/2 dry rub and 1/2 wet ribs. The wet ribs were better than the dry rub ribs, as the BBQ sauce was finger-licking good. The collared greens tasted as if they were flavored with allspice, and we liked that too. He enjoyed the burnt ends.

Katie D.

Yelp
The nachos are quite different from "regular" BBQ nachos. I enjoyed them, although it is a smaller size than some BBQ places.

Jen B.

Yelp
Terrible meal! Lousy service too. We split the full rack of spareribs and ordered them "wet". They were hard and dry. Not good at all. The fried okra and cornbread were just as dry and lacking in flavor.

Mike A.

Yelp
Damn Melissa Cookston deserves every trophy she's ever won. I've eaten here several times and always recommend it to people who are here from out of town. I can't believe I haven't yelped it yet. We went here last night (Friday April 26 2024) around 5 pm. I expected it to be packed but imagine my surprise when it wasn't at all! Got seated right away - well right away as soon as all 6 of us were there. Protip - they won't seat your party until the entire party is present. Had many varied items, all were great! They have 3 different sauces on the table for you to use - classic, sassy, and bold. Sassy is sweet and therefore my least favorite. That's not to say it isn't good, it just isn't my cup of tea. I prefer the bold which has a nice pepper kick. Classic is good as well but I'm more of a bold man. Main dishes are excellent, sides area very good too from okra to Mac and cheese to greens to bbq spaghetti. BBQ nachos are very very good as well. I've never had a bad experience here I highly recommend it!!!
