The vibe of this place is chill and has potential for being productive. Tables have plenty of space for laptop and notebooks. I got an iced latte which was alright. Note: if you want a vanilla iced latte you have to add in the syrup yourself (there’s a counter with the syrups). The almond croissant was really good to the point that I considered asking where this cafe gets their almond croissants from. The almond filling is ample, which I sincerely appreciate since usually places skimp out on that part and it’s my favorite. Unfortunately I had to knock down a star solely because there is no AC here. Going here in the afternoon during the summer would be unbearable. In the morning when I went, it was still pretty stifling, but I toughed it out. No AC is such a turn off for me 😭😭😭😭 I can’t physically return again during the summer.

If you're looking for a cozy spot with exceptional coffee in this area, Menagerie Coffee is the place to go! Their perfectly balanced espresso macchiato, was really really good! Every sip is a treat. The staff is really nice & friendly. They also have variety of mouthwatering pastries. Highly recommend this place.

One of the best cups of coffee I had. I don’t write many reviews… but I just had to write it for this place. I got an iced honey latte & they mix the honey with the shot so it’s mixed in well. The barista added the milk in the cup before pouring it into the cup with ice cubes. That way the shot wasn’t watered down and it tasted perfect. There’s not much seating area but I didn’t mind since I was taking it to go. I’d def come back!

Menagerie is one of the first cafes several years ago that I returned to again and again after moving to Philly. Even in the throws of COVID, the staff of Menagerie found a way to lift up their desire for the shop to be welcoming and open to folks. First things first: the coffee is some of the best in Philly. Execution is perfect every time. Roast and brew yields an espresso that is complex and surprising across each sip. The only knock on this excellent experience is, unsurprisingly, the cafe can become noisy and packed with other customers in ways that can make for a busy and quick visit. Having been here in busy times and quiet times, this is fault of success rather than design or neglect. This popularity is well-deserved and I cannot think of a shop that is more worthy of your consideration in this part of Philly.

This one's a cute coffee place in the heart of the Old City in Philly. Excellent staff, with great recommendations for coffee. Got me a nice and strong Flat White with Oat Milk, with just the right kick of caffeine to get the day started. The Café has an elaborate breakfast menu & lots of seating space. Makes for a great place to work or just catch up over a conversation.

I just ordered the Honey Spiced Cortado (made with oatmilk, and comes w/ a ginger square). The batista was helpful in explaining the drink to me before I ordered. It contains turmeric and ginger and she let me know that it's very heavy on the ginger (which I like, but it isn't for everyone). The place is really cute and larger than it seems when you first walk in. There is a nice sized seating are behind the counter. The seating atea has outlets so it is convenient for days when you're working out of the office or studying. The shop has a great vibe and would also be a good spot to grab coffee w/ friends or to just chill. I will definitely be back the next time I'm in town.

Visited this shop while on a coffee hop day with my friends in Philly. There were different aspects to things I didn't like too much about this place. First off we went inside and my friends were first in the line when I asked if I could use the restroom, to which I got the response and I quote "It's over there... but it's locked." So I'm trying to ask for the key but being completely ignored. I thought maybe the cashier person was just busy and so I tried with someone else who worked there, and they just walked right past me without even looking. The place was quite busy, however, it was still really bad service in my opinion. Of course I just gave up and went to the back of the line to order my coffee. I ordered a caffè macchiato and unfortunately did not like it. The coffee was too bitter for me. The latte art was beautiful though. The location itself is ok. They have a cute little table outside where we sat down. Honestly unfortunately this one was the only disappointing one of the 4 coffee shops we went to that day, however I'm still glad I tried it. Probably will not return.

Cute coffee shop nestled in old town Philly. Although the street looks empty, the coffee shop is bustling with plenty of students, young professionals and tourists. I kept it simple and ordered a hot American which came out hot and served in a mug. The staff were friendly and the sitting area was clean. I enjoyed my stay and will happily drop back in again for my next caffeine fix.

DRINKS We ordered their iced Matcha latte which comes pre-sweetened. It was frothy and not too sweet, the ice-to-drink ratio was a bit higher than I would have liked. Their chai latte was really good, sweet but not too sweet, and creamy. The spices are strong, which is a plus. FOOD They offer a variety of pastries and sandwiches. My friend ordered their ham and egg sandwich, which was a little dry in regards to the bread, and the sauce was a little bit too liquidy and vinegary. Nevertheless, despite its size, it's very filling. AMBIANCE There is ample seating inside the store for working from home or studying and is also a great place to catch up with friends. Ambient music plays in the store, but isn't too loud sometimes conversations can be a little bit on the other side but nothing overwhelming. SERVICE The staff are kind and friendly. PARKING Paid street parking is available at a limited capacity.

Lovely little spot in downtown Philly where you can meet friends or enjoy a coffee in this cozy spot. My mocha iced latte was delicious with creamy milk and not overly sweet mocha syrup; you could really taste their espresso roast and savor the flavors. The staff were friendly, accommodating, and quick to deliver our order on a busy Saturday. The restroom is in the back and gender beauties. It was very clean. The seating is tight and it is a bit loud for studying or work, but if you get there when it isn't busy, you can tuck yourself away in a corner.

This was my first time going and the café itself was super cute and cozy. I got a mocha iced latte and it's one of the better ones i've tried around here. I like my mocha lattes to be sweeter and less bitter, but the espresso shot inside the latte does not make it overly bitter and the mocha does not make it overly sweet. I feel as though it's a perfect balance! The service was quick and I'd come again to sit down and do some work.

We had one day in Philadelphia and my fiancé knows I need my morning coffee We dropped off our luggage and a person at the storage spot recommended this cute coffee shop to us. We were in and out pretty quickly, but after I ordered the latte, I saw the pastries on display and the almond croissant looked too good to pass up. And I'm glad I didn't! It had so much filling and the gooey filling with the flakey outside was perfect. It was a great start to our big day of site seeing.

Surprisingly small menu for such a craft driven drip, us four guys dropped in for a quick afternoon blues killer and was surprised by the purest of menus with only a few syrups, chai, and teas. I went with a cinnamon honey latte, was fine enough though nothing outstanding. Service was timely for how busy it was, bathroom was very clean, noticed a huge troop trot in soon after us which makes sense given the chai! Wow! Sampled a friend's chai who actually couldn't do it, way too spicy for his white soul, that rich clove heat is righteous goodness for winter hugs! My and my other buddy went mad for it. That's the rare refined tea few know.

Quite a nice coffee shop serving both Elixr Coffee and Dogwood Coffee at the time that I visited. I had a pour over of one of the Elixr coffees. It was very good. There was a good amount of seating and the barista was very friendly. My friend's latte looked very good as well.

How the heck did this place get so many good reviews? Went today around 11am and grabbed 2 iced coffees. Total was about $8.50 for two 16oz coffees. They tasted like iced water. 100% flavorless, even after adding flavor and cream. FYI, the only flavor they have for beverages is vanilla. Either regular milk or oat milk. If you are going to have such limited offerings, at least make them good. I have had better iced coffee from a can. Blah. We trashed them both by the time we got to the corner. We couldn't even force ourselves to drink them so we didn't waste the money.

Was shopping for Christmas gifts across the street and craving for a hot chocolate - saw this gem and so glad we went for it. Quite a well lit nice space - saw some people working and some hanging out. Delicious semi-thick hot chocolate (definitely not like Swiss mix which some reviews mentioned). My husband got the matcha latte which was so good as well - it had the perfect bitterness and nuttiness of true matcha so very likely it was high quality (hoping so!).

I'd encourage a different layout - possibly reconsidering the back area by having smaller tables on both sides of the aisle. Or, reduce the kitchen area? Or simply... move to a bigger space?

Lovely and cosy cafe in the Old City Philly. I have been trying to get their coffee and sit here few times, but it's been so crowded I decided to wait. I was finally able to get down here and happy to say there were enough seatings around 1pm (I think I came around 3ish before). It is not a spacious cafe, and the seatings are bit crammed, but it is okay. When I went employees were efficiently working, but not quite welcoming. I actually don't mind this because I don't expect everyone to be friendly, I'd rather have them be more business like than goofing off and not tending to their customers (which I have had experiences with at other places). I ordered their seasonal drink - Honey Spiced Cortado (it also has turmeric). It came with a little spiced cake which was really nice. I have tried spiced coffee drinks elsewhere, but this spiced cortado really delivered on spices! It was such a nice surprise drinking this. Hopefully, I can get back here to get this drink again!

A charming, cozy coffee shop in the Old City. Not too busy when we rolled in and the worker greeted us with a friendly smile. They have a pretty straightforward espresso menu here. I went with a basic Latte with 2% milk. This was formatted as a 10oz in a 12oz take out cup. I believe this is intentional as the smaller format and ultimate milk to espresso ratio rewarded me with a robust, evenly frothy final product versus overly milky. At $4.75, this seemed to be a steal but I do not think it was a double shot. The shop was warm and inviting with natural sunshine spilling in some, so I did sit for a bit before charging through my day.

How do two people approach the counter and, even if he didn't hear t order, wouldn't you ask, " can I get YOU anything?" Also ordered pastries. Again, my order was ignored. Stopped by The Bourse Food Hall to escape the rain and to have a quick rest & pick me up before heading to Independence Hall. A shame that the food court has been gutted due to Covid, but nice that Menagerie still stands. We had an espresso (delicious & smooth), 2 oat milk lattes and a green tea. Staff was friendly and service was quick. Would have gotten 5 stars but they only had the oat milk alternative and we were hoping for an almond milk latte.

Excellent, excellent coffee shop!! I walked in on a wintery Sunday and the warm beverage was so nice and refreshing. I got the Mocha which was perfectly made. Creamy, with the right amount of chocolate. It was perfection! My partner got the chai latte with oat milk and extra cinnamon - which was excellent as well! There's no indoor seating, but why would you sit indoors when you could be out wandering the streets of beautiful philly with a perfectly brewed beverage?

Small, homey coffee shop in Philly, visited after going to Headhouse Farmer's Market! We ordered the cappuccino and the mocha, each were great on their own. The mocha was perfectly sweet with a rich flavor, not too overpowering on the chocolate. The cappuccino was well balanced as well! No complaints on the espresso from me! Wish the coffees came out a bit quicker, we waited around 10-15 minutes though it was a busy time so completely understandable; however, the staff was extremely friendly to make up for it. Would love to try their pastries laid out next the register, looked delicious!

Cute little spot serving Elixr coffee, which I've enjoyed at their cafe. So on a dog walk recently, we stopped in (well, I stopped in while my husband waited outside with the dogs). Coffee was good, and I was impressed to see that that they have a kitchen with staff making the sandwiches to order. My husband got a breakfast sandwich and I got a pastry. I get the feeling they might have more food options when things get back to "normal." I'll be interested to try those, though they already have some good stuff on offer. I like that they are open earlier than other spots, so I can stop in when I walk dogs and before things get busy in the neighborhood.

Great place in old city to catch up with friends or some work. The coffee was very good, and there's usually a fairly decent amount of selections for pastries and sandwiches. They're nothing special but it's always good to have something to snack on while doing work. The wifi was fairly reliable and there were lots of space, including a big table at the back, although if it's on a busy weekend, you might have to share tables with others. The bathroom was clean and there're quite a few places with outlets in case you plan on staying there for a while. Only complaint is that some of the areas are a bit dark. i'm someone who likes lots of natural light and well-lit spaces when i work, but the dimmer environment definitely has a more homey cozy vibe to it, which others might like.

How they're managing COVID: They were very strict on only having 2 people inside the shop at one time, and everyone had to be in masks. Had a screen around the cashier as well, and would pass over drinks & pastries through the screen. Food: Thought the drinks were well prepared and croissant was very flaky/crisp. However the drinks were ~$5 each, which I thought were a bit on the higher end, given the size of the drinks. Overall: 4/5 - I do think the prices are a bit higher than your average latte, but they were well made and had tasty pastries! Great job managing COVID too.

Cute cafe that has adapted fully to COVID. There were no chairs when I went and plexiglass separating the customers from employees. They work super fast, very friendly, and have still managed to make the place aesthetically pleasing. Their coffee and croissant was delish! I wish COVID is gone so I can enjoy an idyllic morning enjoying the cafe to its fullest soon.

Menagerie is a cute spot for a coffee in Old City. We ordered lattes and sat outside (they had one small stool table and 2 chairs) - the lattes were made quickly, had pretty designs and were super tasty. I enjoyed being able to add vanilla sweetener myself rather than being upcharged for flavoring. Just FYI, As of May 2022, vaccines still required for indoor dining.

Okay I know this is a coffee shop, but I will start the review with their cookies. Because they are heavenly!! The location is perfect. It's right near all the cheesesteaks spots, so after you had a huge cheesesteak for lunch, you can come here for a pick me up Their cappuccino is solid, same with flat white. Both times I went there the milk was a little too overheated so the drink was a little off tasting. To me it's not a deal breaker for coming back. Next time I will try their espresso straight! This coffee shop ranks pretty high on my list in terms of quality and ambiance, two of the most important things I look for in a coffee shop. I'm simple, and prefer streamlined menu selections as opposed to bloated menus chock full of mediocre offerings. This cafe delivers on that front as well. My gripe isn't major, but it isn't trivial either. Somehow, the oat milk add-in is a dollar, bringing the average priced $4.75 latte into luxury territory; almost 7 dollars after tax and even a modest tip. For people like me, who are lactose intolerant, and considering that a quart of oat milk retails for approx 4-5 dollars (for a consumer not buying in bulk) this is a turn off. All else considered, this is a great spot to stop at.

Menagerie is the latest on my list of amazing places I have gotten to try outside of my typical Rittenhouse bubble. While I wish I were more of a coffee connoisseur (alas, call it my character flaw), I can definitely tell if coffee is amazing or horrible. Luckily Menagerie's coffee is AMAZING. It is delicious and refreshing. I got the iced oat milk latte and my friend similarly agreed that she loved her cold brew (which is saying something, given how simple cold brew tends to be). We grabbed iced drinks from here and roamed amidst the historical buildings. 11/10 would recommend!

Very great coffee and pastries. Loved the Covid-safety protocols in place, felt very safe ordering and inside. We got a latte and a chai, as well as a cute pastry and a slice of Irish soda bread. Both drinks were amazing, the Chai specifically was really good and clearly made in-house. The soda bread was fantastically thick, and they grill-toasted it and buttered it for us. They were also quite fast and very friendly. It's also right near market street so it's easy to get to. Would recommend it as a stop.

Menagerie is a really cute shop, with a friendly staff and cozy environment that makes it hard not to like. We only ordered coffees in the form of a cortado and a cappuccino, and both were really good. Some of the best espresso + milk drinks we've had during our coffee explorations in Philly, actually, with great texture and well-pulled espresso (currently Elixr). My challenge for any shop is to make a good cortado, as the milk temperature, texture, and sweetness is a challenge for a lot of baristas, and it's the perfect amount of milk to still let the espresso's characteristics shine. The barista on bar definitely nailed it! My wife loved her cappuccino, as well. We returned to Boston with her saying it was her favorite of the trip. If you can find a seat, manage the crowd, and figure out the layout of the shop, it's worth it for the drinks. Other than those potential pain points, the coffee is excellent and worth stopping in for. The staff was also very nice, and I even saw the one girl rush to the door to help lock the doors open for a couple struggling to get through with their stroller. It's the little observations that you notice that really define an experience, and that was something that really impressed me! We will definitely be back!

Best coffee shop in Philly. I was in town for a week for work and made a point to visit all the top rated coffee shops - Menagerie was the best. The cappuccino was perfect and the vibe was cool.

The vibe of this place is chill and has potential for being productive. Tables have plenty of space for laptop and notebooks. I got an iced latte which was alright. Note: if you want a vanilla iced latte you have to add in the syrup yourself (there's a counter with the syrups). The almond croissant was really good to the point that I considered asking where this cafe gets their almond croissants from. The almond filling is ample, which I sincerely appreciate since usually places skimp out on that part and it's my favorite. Unfortunately I had to knock down a star solely because there is no AC here. Going here in the afternoon during the summer would be unbearable. In the morning when I went, it was still pretty stifling, but I toughed it out. No AC is such a turn off for me I can't physically return again during the summer. Service was fine, no complaints there.
