Gov. Newsom Signs Bill That Eases Restrictions on Home-Cooked Foods | Eater LA

"I've seen Comedor Tenchita cited as an example of the private, residence-based pop-up scene that has grown since 2020 in greater Los Angeles; these home-kitchen pop-ups are currently thriving and the passage of AB 1325 could bolster their ability to operate and earn more." - Mona Holmes

Google
Food was very flavorful. Different flavors and textures on one plate. Cannot wait to go again.

Geo G.

Google
Food 10|10 can't complain about it. Really bad ambiance since there's not music, tables are too close from each other. Service was my thing. I leave three stars because a Beautiful, green hair young woman came to check on us, she saved the whole experience. But The person who originally took our order should take some customer service course since that was very bad. No smiling, no good manners and to top it off not even an "Enjoy your Meal" after she dropped it. I didn't appreciate that. If you come here, expect to be treated like a thing and not like someone. I am not coming back ever again.

Eva H.

Google
My friend and I went here earlier today and they gave her a pupusa she didn't order. In addition, we took a pupusa home and there was a fly in the pupusa. This is beyond gross and unsanitary. I'm never returning to this place.

Richard T.

Google
The waiter welcomed me very well with a big smile. The inside is very nice and clean with loud music and big wall pictures. The food is Salvadoran cuisine. So it took me a couple of days to get used to the various dishes. The one dish that surprised me was where you are served a ‘lake’ of soup - SOPA DE RES

Google
One of my favorite spots. I love their breakfast, pupusas, and tamales, fresh and delicious. The service is friendly and the prices are super reasonable. Just a great Salvadoran place all around.

Google
Delicious authentic food and coffee. Friendly staff. Reasonable pricing. Food comes out slow but worth the wait.

Brenden K.

Google
The food was terrific got the chicken in cream and empanadas. Lots of food and for a reasonable price. Only issue was the menu prices were hard to read and needed some clarification but definitely recommend

Robert N.

Google
On a Sunday, this backyard-style spot serves authentic Oaxacan barbacoa that tastes like it came from grandma’s kitchen. The down-to-earth vibe made it feel more like dinner at someone’s home than a restaurant. The flavors are deep and soulful, especially the barbacoa. Portions are generous and prices are fair. It’s a neighborhood gem

Yelp

Yelp
Soooo this is officially my spot for pupusas. Im Salvadorean but i dont really care for pupusas. Sorry to all the salvis. Lol. But my whole family loves this spot. And also my friends. Everyone who i have brought to Menchitas like the pupusas here. I only like them on Weekends because i use the salsa that they serve the tortillas chips with. Than its super good. Lol. The chips and salsa is only served on the Weekends. So coming from a salvi who does not like pupusas as much as a regular salvi person. I honestly like them here. They play all types of latin music. Its usually packed with lots of customers all the time. So this place is a must try.

Yelp

Yelp
Service was excellent, food portions were small for the price they intentionally don't have the prices on the menu anymore. But what did it for me this time was $15 per beer? Total ripoff.. we won't be returning.

Yelp
I've lived in the mid-city area my entire life and have tried various Salvadorian spots, this one will always be my dad and I's go-to. On weekends they have specials like atol de elote (delicious), they have good music, live performances and bands at times, and overall a lovely family-friendly atmosphere. I always bring my friends here when they've never tried Salvi food. I recommend the sopa de gallina, the pupusas, the salvadorian breakfast, delicious! Reasonably priced! The servers are friendly, helpful and very attentive. I couldn't recommend this place enough.

Kenia O.

Yelp
Delicious food at a great price!! I come here at least once a month!! Their chicken soup is curative!

Anggy J.

Yelp
I am beyond disappointed and disgusted with my experience today. As a loyal customer for the past few years, I never expected to find a cockroach in my food that was delivered by DoorDash. This incident has completely ruined my trust in this restaurant and I will no longer be ordering from them. This is unacceptable and I hope they take immediate action to prevent this from happening to anyone else. Also, when I contacted the restaurant, the only response I got was " the owner is not here" and nothing was done.

Yelp

Yelp
My wife and I we decided to try this place, first of all they have their own ( VIP ) valet service on witch is a scam, when I asked for the phone number they couldn't provide me with one ( main office ) , the parking is run by the restaurant and they capture any available spaces in the lot to make their own valet parking, not ok. Let's talk about the inside, Food was very blend and the drinks were 80% ice, as we sat on one of the front tables we have experienced that the trash can that was full of trash was rolled by the front of our table, next was that the waitress cleaned the table right next to us with windex and as she sprayed the can I felt a mist of spray , and then they were vacuuming the hallway right next to us , I swear I could have smelled and felt the dust in the air. Ambiance is nothing but very heavy and loud music , nothing pleasing to the ear while you eat. Will never come back to this place. Good luck with future patrons.

Yelp
Filled my craving for a Salvadorian breakfast. Plate was a very large. More than filling. The eggs were partly salty, maybe not mixed all the way. However, it did not take away from the meal. When combined with the rest of the meal. It was early Monday morning. Not crowded at all, I'm sure it had to do with the day. Yelp page says no debit cards. They absolutely do take cards.

Diana L.

Yelp
Food is delicious, the waiters are friendly! They have music performance sometimes, and everyone is just enjoying and having a good time!

Blanca G.

Yelp
The service was so bad ,tv was so noice, we ask to lower and she said no she can't do that popusa was uncooked
google avatar

Yelp
The best pupusas in town. Perfect every time. Never disappointed. Clean place. Very clean restroom Music a bit too loud
google avatar

Sara N.

Yelp
The food is really good and pretty authentic, just be clear on what you want so there are no mistakes, the service is great. Saturdays are a great day to go since there is live music a bit loud during the musing but good ambiance.
google avatar

Katelynn C.

Yelp
I have never had Salvadoran food but it was delivered. The service was pretty well except I asked for a side of Diablo sauce and they forgot it. Also they could have salted the side salad a little bit. But other than that it was impeccable. I have never have black beans that are blended but it was amazing. It is a little pricey but delicious. This dish was about 20$ with tax.

Yelp
Pork and cheese pupusas were mouth watering- sooo good $6.60 for two Definitely coming back for more

Yelp
I made an order of veggie soup with a fresh side of rice and veggie. I received an old avocado! Be sure to check your food before leaving the store !
google avatar

Yelp
Food is always delicious! We come here a lot as a family. Waitresses are all very friendly!
google avatar

Stephanie S.

Yelp
The food is amazing! The best authentic Salvadorian restaurant in town. The service is always good as well. I recommend the pupusas revueltas, the chicken tamales, Platanos Fritos con crema y frijoles! Those are just the appetizers! All their dishes are authentic and delicious so I can't just name one to choose from! Their deserts are also a treat! Their horchata and Ensalada drinks are my favorite! It's family friendly, they have TV's and live music on the weekend that you'll enjoy especially if you're Salvadorian and grew up listening to all the Salvadorian music your parents played!

Yelp
Went there recently and while standing in front of the young female taking phone orders I had to laugh out loud and so did she at how rude she was with the callers and specifically we laughed because she literally cut people off before they finish their order. She seemed to think this was amusing. It became less amusing when I received my order and it was all wrong. There was no awning to protect you from the blistering sun as I positioned two chairs facing each other, one to sit on and want to put my food on as a eight next to my own car to protect myself from the sun. Terrible! When I received my order I realized there was no meat on the plate. I let the waitress know and she began to debate what I had ordered. I reminded her that I didn't even take my change back and left the entire amount as a tip and I felt the least they could do was bring me one little piece of meat as I overpaid for what they even ordered for me. I never did get the meat because it took so long for them to go prepare it. I found out there was an ownership change and of course I felt it in the service. All in all I felt like everything is really changed here and that they did not really care about the customer experience. I will never go back here and I wish them good luck during this very difficult time when they should be paying more attention to the customer.

Yelp
Authentic & delicious. They use the correct beans (BLACK BEANS!) for the salvadorean breakfast--the casamiento is expertly seasoned; not too salty. Platanos are perfectly ripe, and the avocado, cream and cheese are super fresh. Someone moms are working that kitchen.

Yelp
Pupusas are great but the service it was horrible, I ordered 21 pupusas and I asked the lady in front can I get spicy salsa, and she only gives me 2 little containers so I asasked her for more and she looked at me really bad and she said that is why we gives you the other salsa, I told her I pay you for the extra salsa and I don't think the business would go bankruptcy for the salsas that you are giving me and I also buying you 21 pupusas, so she give me more salsas and trying to put it inside a fully bag at that time one of the others ladies that works there said let me give you another bag and this the first lady didn't put attention of what she said and continued to force that to put the extra salsas into the bag and then she asked what else I can do for you, I said to her, a better costumer service, I am not here to asked for free food or to borrowed if I am buying I deserve better service, and this is not my first time being tried like this for this same lady l, i know why I whent back? Because we like the pupusas from this place. I can't understand why the owners still have this lady there. DEFINITELY I AM NOT COMING BACK. if the owners do not care about this people giving that actitud to their clients so they do not care about us, and I am not saying to fire this lady is to do her job and give great costumer service, and at the end she is RACIST.

Yelp
google avatar

Yelp
I had come by this place before when it was the other business and not so great, however with the new owners and the staff this place is great. The pupusas are big and have a lot of filling for the price. They offer alcohol and there menu selections are great. They have a variety of Salvadorian dishes, seafood selections and mexican/ American dishes as well. They have live entertainment on Friday-Sunday nights. The parking lot does get full, however they offer valet and there is street parking. Can get loud and you can have a wait if you come on there busiest days which usually are Friday-Sunday. They offer take out as well.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious. I felt like my abuelita was in the kitchen. Everything was fresh

jacob c.

Yelp
Good and delicious food, but they served me tortillas from the past day... Those tortillas look nasty maybe one or two days old
google avatar

Karen C.

Yelp
They have a wide variety of pupusas and the size of the pupusas is generous. I enjoy the queso with calabaza pupusas :)
google avatar

Raul D.

Yelp
Great place, food is fresh, service is good. Always ask for pupusas de loroco those are the best and chicharrón , revueltas are always good.
google avatar

Syboneth A.

Yelp
It's farely ok , casamiento rice was still hard , pupusas where 8/10 .. good family ambiance
google avatar

Cherry M.

Yelp
The Best Pupusas! Satisfied customer here. Will be coming back for more. Gracias! Highly recommended!

Yelp
Came here while waiting for an appointment at Kim's nails in the same shopping center. Server was quick to take order but we weren't ready since we have never eaten at Salvadoran Food before. It was really hard to get anyone's attention to get her back. Chips came and the salsa was spicy (yum!). Be aware that they serve soda in the can so mo refills. Place has three TVs so lots of beer drinking patrons watching soccer if you need a place to hang out to watch. Served fermented veggies , like kimchi or ceviche, and salsa.
google avatar

Hector R.

Yelp
Really good food at a affordable price.family vibes all the employees are really friendly you won't be disappointed.

Dyy R.

Yelp
Came on a Friday afternoon for the 1st time ever. I had Sopa de Res and a Chicharron con Queso pupusa and un tamarindo. The Sopa is sooooo fresh! The soup itself is very flavorful but not overwhelming or salty. The carne was soft and all the veggies tasted fresh. The sopa comes with a half of avocado and fresh cheese (which is not common at other places). Avocado now a days cost an arm and leg. The pupusa, is not greasy at all but it was good but not great but I would definitely come back and eat the pupusas again. The tamarindo... omg also seems like they make it right from the tamarindo fruit. Everything tastes super fresh. I really think the person cooking the food cooks with love. Parking... sucks. But definitely worth the wait :) The picture of the sopa was after I devoured it. I was enjoying it so much I thought about doing a review half way through eating it.

Gegee M.

Yelp
Worst customer service ever. Food is not worth the price. Trash! Don't waste your time and money.

Eddy F.

Yelp
google avatar

Yelp
I order some food 04/07/20 around 4:15 pm I when to pickup 4:50 pm I see this guy drinking in eating in side business in some other customer waiting in side one have mask on and the other one don't even de guy how was drinking in eating I told lady in charge is not suppose to do that she didn't care about it. So every body be aware. I Try to support my local business in my neighborhood(sad is good food) but they don't care public health. Be aware

Vicky W.

Yelp
delicious and savory. we love this place! and the ensalada drink is so refreshing.
google avatar

Jorge M.

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick bite. Ordered the pupusas revuelta and i will say they were very tasty. Some pupusas out there are very doughy but Menchitas were very very good. Plenty of cheese and great flavor. The restaurant is busy, clean and up beat music. The staff was very nice also..
google avatar

Lyr C.

Yelp
I ordered takeout with a few friends. The waitress asked for each of their names to put on the order. For me, no questions asked. Once we picked the orders up, I noticed that mine still had a slur where the name is supposed to be.
google avatar

Elliot R.

Yelp
Myself and 3 of my friends placed orders for pickup tonight. They asked for our names for each order except for one and they put a slur for my friend. Out of all of us you had to do it to the gay friend.
google avatar

Mike E.

Yelp
This spot is phenomenal. I live close but it took me a while to discover it, so when you pull up into a weird strip mall off La Brea don't trip, you are in the right place. The queso pupusa is the best of all - adding other things, such as chicharrones, detracts from the simplicity and deliciousness of the cheese and masa / flour exterior. I would also recommend any of the ceviches (ooo wee!) and the grilled chicken plate.
