Simple winery with a scent of humor. The 2021 David wine caught me and my wife interest. We are not true wine drinkers, but we have tasted a lot of different wine. I'll admit we like sweet wine because we're sugar heads.

Cynthia Fenton

Google
Our private tasting was not only fun, but educational. Our host provided not only an informative discussion about each of the wines offered, but was amazingly knowledgeable about the history of wine making in Israel from ancient times until now. Beautiful facility, interesting wines. Well worth a visit.

Google
I loved it here. It is a true hidden gem that I got to experience on a wine tour with family and friends. They presented the history and story behind their wine. I would definitely recommend it and come back on my next visit. ❤

Google
If you're looking for something a little unique in the area, I would recommend this winery. Israeli wines aren't widely available and there are so many options to try here. The tasting room was also beautiful. There are both dry and sweet wine options so there is something for everyone. There was also the option to try Israeli olive oil, which was also a nice treat.

We were the only ones in the main building a few days ago so customer service was great. The owner served us and he was wonderful. Talked about his winery and other aspects of his life in Israel. Enjoyable experience. Dog friendly inside but we left them in the truck to nap. Will return.

Google
Least favorite place that I visited this weekend. We didn't get a lot of information about the wine in order to know which ones we liked and didn't like. They were nice enough but I felt the least acknowledged here. Pretty area and pretty tasting room.

Jerri Grunewald

Google
We stopped in on a Monday and paid $25 for a tasting for one. The gentleman was very knowledgeable about the wines and the winery and we ended our tasting by buying 3 bottles.

First, I went in on a tour. I love the wine tasting. I ordered a bottle to my house came the very next day. The wine is really good.

Yelp
We joined the wine club here about a year ago on an impulse stop. Although we really enjoy the wines, the atmosphere and staffing could really use some improvement. Like many of the other wineries on 290, they they started catering more and more to the wine van/bus tours leaving no room for wine club members. Most of the other wineries have a special area for members so they can enjoy their wines without all of the bachelorette parties coming in and out. Unfortunately, this place doesn't and the acoustics in their building are horrible so it's extremely loud. They weren't staffed up enough to handle it. and one of the staff members almost started a fight with a member of our party because he was so stressed out. Because of our work schedules we have a lot of flexibility and maybe will stop coming on the weekends. But the wines are that good

Deontae K.

Yelp
Everything was amazing. Great host, customer service and very educational. I would highly recommend this venue

Moira B.

Yelp
We stopped here on our Fredericksburg wine tour and it had, hands down, the best wines of all the places we tried (and we went to a LOT of wineries). The wine was great and the young man doing the tasting was very knowledgeable. They also had bread and their own olive oils available to sample and purchase and they were DELICIOUS. The atmosphere and decor were spot on, and made the experience all the more enjoyable. I will agree with some other reviewers that there were some flies but they weren't that much of a problem for us. If you're doing a Fredericksburg wine tour you can NOT skip this spot for great wine, atmosphere, and service.

Yelp
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Mendelbaum Cellars. Lacie was informative and patient. Love our experience there. Will visit again for sure

Starla W.

Yelp
I love wine tasting and Mendelbaum was such a great experience. I came here as part of a 3 stop wine tour. The wines we tried were amazing! I walked away purchasing one bottle that I will save for a special occasion.

Laura C.

Yelp
Terrible service, rude, crude, not inviting at all. Like a wet blanket on our hill country wine tour. Nevermind the wine is awful; if they simply provided a nice ambiance that would be a grand improvement. Restrooms don't work, music is terrible. Feels like a money grab. Skip it.

Leticia S.

Yelp
We came here on our first stop on a Texas Winos tour event. So far, so good. We had options of sweet or dry. The wines tasted of really good quality. I was pleasantly surprised. The sweet wines were not overly sweet and the dry choices had hints of sweetness to them. My favorites were the Promised Land and the Mare Pink. Also, the land and the building are absolutely gorgeous.

Teofila R.

Yelp
Nice restaurant and wine. We also got to taste different wines. They served us an Italian lunch. Lasagna, pasta with chicken, etc.

Tomasa R.

Yelp
Okay, let's get into it! Location- off of E US-290, Fredericksburg, TX. Near stonewall, and also pretty close to Austin and San Antonio. We came as a part of a wine tour and had lunch here delivered from an Italian restaurant. The food was great but we could not enjoy it, due to the fact it was lord of the flies in there, literally infested with flies. So we ended that visit early because it was disgusting. Disappointing. Service- The young man that there was nice, he was from Israel and someone in our group was too. He got to speak with his family on the phone and that was pretty cool. Taste- The wines were good nice sweet and dry red, whites, and blush wines. Overall- I am sure I would have loved this place but the flies ruined the entire tasting and experience.

Robin F.

Yelp
I have known the owner for decades and he's a bit gruff and getting crankier as he ages but he has a heart of gold ! Just be patient and give his establishment a chance. He won't forget you and you will have a great and honest experience for you and your whole family! Bring the kids....you're family now. Highly recommended!

Matt K.

Yelp
We booked a cabin here with a jacuzzi. We arrived and to our surprise, the jacuzzi didn't work. The manager or whoever he was stated I could use the community Jacuzzi. I then asked for a partial refund since I paid for a room with a jacuzzi but was denied. the community jacuzzi was full of about 6 people on our first day and our second we beat the rush just to come to find out only one jet worked in the whole thing. as far as the rest of the cabin. The toilet didn't flush properly had to purchase toilet paper, there was mold on the baseboards of the cabin, and the light bulbs were out it was a disaster for us, and we will never stay again. we didn't try the wine or food because the manager was so rude about the cabin I refused to give them another cent. Stay away!

Yelp
The wines are good and it's a cool place! They all come from Israel, which was very interesting to learn about. However, the prices advertised on their website for the wine tasting are not what the prices are in the winery. Online, it says 5 for $15 wine tastings, but at the winery it is 6 for $25. And it says $3 per extra tasting online, which would make it $18 for 6 wines. When my dad asked the owner why the prices were falsely advertised, he acted as if he had never seen his own website in his life and did not care that it was falsely advertised. FYI: false advertisement is illegal.

Yitshak S.

Yelp
The truth is that I was amazed at how good Israeli wine is! And without insulting the local quality but the Israeli quality is really good and that's what this winery seemed to specialize in, I tasted a number of wines and embodied them so I could not help but buy more to take home, At the pleasant welcome given by the winery owner and the amazingly invested and portable design of the place just counts the whole visit and makes me not want to leave, And when in addition to that the owner of the place gave us a discount on the purchase which made me decide that I would come back here again and would be very happy to taste more wines from their selection (which I really did afterwards :) So for those who want a successful winery in the Frederiksburg area (which is already full of wineries) and for those who are looking for a kosher winery then I think he is the only one - without a doubt he must not miss this winery

Yelp
A fun and interactive experience!! The wine was delicious and the workers were amazing!!

Lara D.

Yelp
Amazing wines! I travel all over the world and have tasted many varieties of wines. I believe life is too short to drink a glass of bad wine. I admit depending on my mood, food pairing and the season I enjoy various wines. I can honestly say I love all of the wines here in all the various categories. The service is great! They take the time to give a brief but comprehensive story behind each of the wines and the history to the present of the region in relation to the wines, the development throughout the centuries, legends and fascinating insights and facts about the religious history and how it all relates. I've attended many museum lectures, classes, bible studies, my father was a pastor and did in depth studies and teachings on the history but Nitzan has a true scholarly knowledge and gift for bringing it all together and teaching it in a way that I've never seen. The accommodations were clean, cozy and in a beautiful setting with a spectacular lantana butterfly meadow, sheep and a lama. The patio was beautiful surrounded by incredible roses, the vineyard and a fountain. There was even a nice fine art exhibition on display. An amazing experience in every possible way! Great place to get away or even for a retreat with friends or work. Best tasting wines in Fredericksberg! Very drinkable, pleasant, well balanced with a very nice finish. My favorites are the Masada for red and the Mar rosé.

Diana G.

Yelp
We all loved this place. They had wines that we all enjoyed. Plus the customer service was excellent. We tried a few of their Texas wine, but also go to sample the ones from Israel. A nice plus is the complimentary cheese plate you get with each sample. They also have olive oils for purchase. You do get to taste them prior to buying. The tasting room is pretty big. They have areas to relax at. On some days they have live music. Don't pass this place up

Jaclyn L.

Yelp
There are llamas on property! LLAMAS!!!!!! And apparently one is feisty and runs away, so it's not odd to see the workers run outside and catch her. BAHAHAH! I wish I was joking it's hilarious! Also, these wines are from the holy land, well not all, some are from Texas. They're all named after Old Testament stories, which makes you feel less guilty about getting smashed. (Especially on a Sunday like we are! It's worth a check out, it's intimate and tasty and when will you ever get to taste Israeli wine?!?!?

Vincent W.

Yelp
Decent wines, produced in the Holy Land. Good staff, great service, and decent wines. The reds were the best of the oeuvre.

Yelp
I'm not typically one to leave a review and a glass half full person, however I feel like it's important that the public is aware of my experience prior to their arrival (to determine if they will be welcomed by service or not based on their skin tone). I am a Latino/white. Base on my investigation of the previous reviews of this winery, this is seems to be a trend. For my birthday I decided to do a Texas Winos tour (with a group of 10) and this winery was stop #2 with Italian food. I was very excited because who doesn't love wine and food! Red flag 1: Upon arrival it was clear that the server was overwhelmed, which is understandable and we're were patient. However it was pointed out by someone in my group that we were not served any wine to try while the other tables were already on their 2nd trying. Keep in mind we're all on the same big Texas wino tour and entered in at the same time. Then when the server was proposing wine tasting options to my table and pouring one of the two to try (sweet or dry), the OWNER grabbed one of the bottles out of the servers hand mid-pour to serve it to the table next to us (white). The servers face and our tables face we're both completely astonished. She (server ) couldn't believe what just happened herself and neither could we. The service was so delayed for our table that I took it upon myself to buy a bottle of wine to keep the wine sipping going since the establishment clearly did not want to serve us timely. I will admit the wine was delicious, however I would later regret buying this bottle as this would mean I supported a blatantly racist establishment that did not want my table (latino) or the table next to us (black) there. Red flag 2: As mentioned before the table next to us was black and were also celebrating a birthday! They were not loud or drawing any attention, just talking and sipping wine. Unfortunately her birthday lunch would also be staled by the OWNER telling her and her group to "sit down and be quiet" (something along those lines). The same astonished looks we had when the OWNER took the wine bottle from our server was exemplified by her birthday table. Conclusion: As mentioned, I am not one to leave a review, however I would not suggest anyone support this establishment with their time or money. I also hope the TEXAS WINOS reconsiders their business relationship/association with this establishment. Although my group is very optimistic and didn't want to let this experience ruin the rest of our wine tour day, it was obvious that both my group and the other birthday girls group had their vibes off for the rest of the tour.

Yelp
We were staying in one of their loft rentals for the weekend and stopped in on our Friday arrival night at 6:30pm and had their new tasting room all to ourselves literally until closing at 8pm. My wife and I both had customized tasting fights and enjoyed their Exodus sweet red wine and Old City sweet white wines the best. Since all wines are imported from vineyards in Israel, expect to pay a little more here than most of the tasting rooms in FBG. Our server was polite and helpful. Glad we stopped in for a night cap...

Yelp
Day trip to Fredericksburg lead us to the usual suspects, but we tried a winery we hadn't before. Mendelbaum was such a pleasant find! First off the service was great. Emma was especially helpful and knowledgeable about their wine offerings! She helped our group of four through our tasting, navigating several questions and even pulling out a map of Israel to show us where the grapes were grown for each wine. Thank you, Emma! On to the wine.... As a primarily dry white wine drinker, I decided to test out a few reds (coerced by the other three in my group). Surprisingly enjoyed several of Mendelbaum's red offerings! The Elijah, which was said to be the owner's favorite, was a pleasant experience. Again, usually reds make me run not walk away. But this wine was excellent. I also tried the Red Mare. We ended up sharing a bottle of this after our tasting. A smooth experience. All in all, this was a great stop that I'm glad we finally discovered. It's in a great location, and the buildings are beautiful. Oh also, they provide great bread and olive oil complementary with your tasting! 10/10, will certainly work this spot into our rotation UPDATE 10/12/19: Reverting back to my favorite whites and white blends, my dad and I shared a bottle of the Mare White. Very nice white blend. Crisp and enjoyable. Also, I want to give props to the atmosphere. The side tasting room is a great spot. Today they had some musical talent. Not too loud, just perfect. Another great experience. Again, highly recommended. Be sure to give a stop at Mendelbaum (and ask for Emma!)

Joy T.

Yelp
David's Slingshot is the wine Jesus drank at the last supper! Enough said!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bret B.

Yelp
I really do like the wines here, I've never had a bad experience. They tend to make smaller quantities of each wine so it's tough to really get something and run with it but I've never been disappointed. With covid it's a bit weird because they pre-pour the tastings into vials and you basically don't have any choice on what you taste but all things considered it's a good experience. A bit pricier than other competitors but considering they're focused on wines from grapes grown in Israel it's totally acceptable in my opinion

James P.

Yelp
Wifey and I have come here a few times over the years. At our last visit, we were again pleased to enjoy quality wines. This is NOT a place to party or get drunk. Noobs looking for "sweet wine" should get back on their drunk bus and go elsewhere. These are rich and intense wines made for cellaring. The staff are very knowledgeable and helpful, without being overbearing or snobbish. These wines speak for themselves. I've enjoyed every visit to Mendelbaum Cellars. Was lucky enough to take hope a bottle of Tulip. It'll rest quietly for a few years. TIP: show them your military ID for a discount. We'll keep coming back!

Joey R.

Yelp
O, God! The pavilion is neglectful. Kelly wants you to drink faster and get OUT. KEEP DRIVING or go to their main room. Avoid the pavilion.

Amy Q.

Yelp
Never going back here. Short-staffed, clutter and boxes everywhere. Wine is all shipped in from Israel and not high quality. Don't waste your time.

Monica V.

Yelp
I visited this winery for the first time on Saturday as a part of a wine tour. There was another large group there as well so they really struggled to keep up. I don't think they should allow groups if they are not able to provide a decent tasting. Unfortunately we ate our lunch there. I think the food came from an outside vendor so I won't discuss that in this review. We did not get a full pour with our meal, just a couple sips of sub par wine, so we purchased 2 glasses and were charged $40. The experience was not pleasant, we just shuffled in, ate out of styrofoam, and any interaction we had with the staff was not friendly. I've been to many wineries in both Texas and California and this was my worst experience. I would never visit again nor purchase their wine.

Nicholas P.

Yelp
Absolutely stunning wine! Every glass was better than the last. We had a tasting of their red wines and they all offer unique profiles using grapes that we all grown in Israel. The woman who served us, I apologize I forget her name, was incredibly attentive and knowledgeable. I know there are a lot of choices on the wine trail but do not miss out on this one. Their tasting pavilion is beautiful and spacious. They also offer bread with Israeli olive oil as a snack.

Emmy H.

Yelp
Best kept secret in Fredericksburg! The Israeli wines are phenomenal and the owners are so wonderful and kind. A must stop if you are a true wine aficionado!

Cora W.

Yelp
Israeli wines imported into Texas. Cute little place. Sweet and dry tasting menus available. They, also, have olive oils and Dead Sea skin products. Average winery. Nothing stood out.

Alysha M.

Yelp
So beautiful inside! Definitely a great addition to our wine bus tour that we did for my birthday. They also had bread, cheese, and multiple types of olive oil for everyone who was buying tastings

Cherry M.

Yelp
During our weekend getaway in Fredericksburg, my boyfriend and I stayed at the Mendelbaum Cellars. This place is so cute and cozy. Our room was so beautiful and the bed was so comfy! Meital was very sweet and always available if we needed her. She welcomed our dogs with open arms as well! If you're wanting peace and quiet, stay here!

Kimberly S.

Yelp
I love this place! This was one of four stops on a wine tour I was on, and it was my favorite stop!!!! The staff was very nice and attentive, and the wine was delicious. The slingshot port wine was my favorite and I ended up buying a bottle I liked it so much.

Lauren A.

Yelp
No, No and just no for this stop. We visited here on a Saturday afternoon, and while the place is nice, it was fairly empty. We were escorted over to the bar where the server was eating her lunch and then she excused herself. We sat there for 10 minutes until she returned, extremely flustered. There was 5 of us doing the tasting and she served 4 of us and then walked away. Returning back to us in about 10 minutes where we had to inform her she didn't serve our fifth person. We waited about 10-15 minutes between pours as she kept leaving us and walking away, each time returning and acting like we were ruining her day and that she didn't have the time to spare us. I asked for dry reds and shared that I trust her opinion, which was obviously a mistake. The first three wines I could hardly choke down. The final two, while drinkable, were not worth the $60 / bottle price. I feel like she didn't listen to my taste preference, or just didn't care. When asking her for information on wines, she was confusing the wine she served me with something else she served. Again, understandable if the place was busy, but since she didn't have much of a crowd, some attention would be nice, especially since we are willing to spend on wine. Gave this place two stars because it was actually pretty inside and the singer performing had an awesome mustache.

Jennifer M.

Yelp
I was not a fan of the wines here. This place is super nice....a little far out, but beautiful. The music was a little slow and after drinking wine made me want to sleep. They did however have cheese and bread complimentary for customers.

Dave O.

Yelp
So bad. First the owner, Nitzan Mendelbaum yells at someone for tapping on the table. A bunch of us thought he was joking at first, but by the look on his face told us he's not the kind of guy who even smiles. This was the second winery of our TEXAS WINOS tour. The other wineries made their own wine. Advice: if you're not going to serve your own wine, at least pick something that's decent. All the Israeli imported wines were 1-Dimensional. When the owner brought his 2 options at a time ("Sweet or dry") he made sure his 1 ounce pourers were tight on those bottles...and he still cut it off before the ounce. Thanks for the swallow at a time, Mendelbaum. It really helped us all sober up after the last place gave us real pours. And would it kill you to tell us a little bit about the kind of wine we're drinking. You treated us like a burden. I hope you get treated the same in Fredricksburg. BTW, there were consistent complaints about you guys in advance and pretty much everyone in solidarity may never recommend TEXAS WINO TOURS as long as MENDELBAUM CELLARS is listed on their docket!

Paige F.

Yelp
Mendelbaum was amazing! We got to experience it as the first stop of a wine tour, and it remained a group favorite throughout! Their tasting room is gorgeous, and we happened to be there during the 7th anniversary so they had some wonderful food as well!! The Israeli wins were beyond awesome (The David and Goliath cabernet was splendid!), and their Texas wines were pretty good too! We truly enjoyed our time there and will be back again.

Katie G.

Yelp
Our favorite winery in Fredericksburg by far. The dry Israeli reds were amazing. They also have wonderful olive oils to taste. Not inexpensive, but worth it! Highly recommend!

Ali A.

Yelp
My goodness! The manager and his wife were freaking awesome. We are from Houston but they made use feel welcomed and at home. The wine was great and customer service was even better. We bought two bottles and we will definitely be back here when we come back to Fredrickburg

Dianna M.

Yelp
Been a big fan for years! Every time we go, we discover such dynamic flavors in their wines. Always impressed. My all time favorite is their Cabernet they call "David & Goliath" - you won't be disappointed if you love a bold Cab. My husband & I just finished our last bottle that we've been saving from them since 2011. It's time for another road trip here!

LeAnn H.

Yelp
I enjoyed visiting this one and tasting their wines. They have a Texas and Israeli wine selection. I enjoyed the miracle most and the Texas red blend.

Talia S.

Yelp
Great variety, wonderful education, delicious wines. All of them!! Try the Sampson dessert wine! That was amazing!

Karen S.

Yelp
This place was kind of strange. The wines were 50/50, whites were not our jam, but the reds were pretty good. We came on a weekday, so expected it to be slow/empty, but it felt unwelcoming with 0 music and no conversation. The man helping us had his cute infant with him, so he was a little distracted by that, but was also on his phone making us wait for an awkward amount of time during our tasting.

Amber P.

Yelp
Lots of potential but poorly managed. Cars board boxes and miscellaneous items sitting everywhere. The wine was okay but it's shipped in and not grown locally. The tasting was brief and not informative.

Angie M.

Yelp
Rude staff that racially profiled people. We came here as part of a tour and as soon as we walked in it looked so nice with the huge gazebo with plenty of space to spread out but NO they had two long tables they yelled at us to "fill up first". First off with covid you want us to cram on these two tables ?? They were so rude when we tried to sit at the high tops but when others did it , it was fine? Nitzan and the lady pouring wine we're so rude and only offered wine bottles for purchase to certain people in the group. When we would flag them down they would look and ignore us LOL . I haven't had this bad of service in a long time . If you don't want to work take the day off . What a bitter experience I will NEVER go back to this place . I would have rather gone to the local gas station and got a tall boy and tipped the cashier than spend time at this place.

Marissa B.

Yelp
We came here on a wine tour with 5 friends and were told that the wines we were tasting cost $6 a glass. Upon paying out the average cost per glass was actually $9-10. We were told that she meant $6 for the wine glass and not the wine. Every person in my group agreed that we were misled. We paid the $10 per glass and enjoyed wine elsewhere. Wines were decent.

Aaron L.

Yelp
Terrible experience. Cardboard boxes everywhere. Short staffed. Owner/manager is a super "loud talker" and was walking around yapping nonstop ruining the relaxing vibe, if there was going to be one. Had no cheese and meat plates, because they ran out. At 2pm. On a Saturday.

Eric R.

Yelp
Highly recommend this location, I call it a location & not just a winery because they also offer cabins for nightly rental. I had just proposed (she said yes!) & this was the last winery we had planned. The staff is extremely friendly & professional & they have a nice spread out venue. The entrance is more of a wine purchase spot, then there is an outdoor location, & finally their indoor sit & sip spot. The sit & sip spot was our favorite of the three for obvious reasons! Also, if staying the night in Fredericksburg then you should really look into their log cabins, ours had its own personal hot tub on the deck! Can not wait to return to do it all again!

Amanda S.

Yelp
Just like the motto - their wine Is-raeli good! The owners of this place are great! Very knowledgeable staff and wonderful family.
