I initially loved Mendocino Farms and even left a glowing review after my first visit. But after returning several times, I've noticed some major quality consistency issues that cannot be left unnoticed.
First, the soups. Their chicken lemon soup, aka a classic Greek lemon dish, was originally my favorite. But now I'm finding that some days it's an over-salted, inedible mess. It's frustrating to order something you loved before and not know whether you'll actually be able to eat it.
What the ones that I've had the sandwiches are still pretty good, but even there, the execution isn't consistent. A few times, the staff forgot to toast my sandwich properly, and I've had to remind them to do so. Not a bug deal, but it's an annoyance that shouldn't happen.
My biggest issue with Mendocino now, is the portion sizes though. The sandwiches are tasty but being about the same size as Subway 6" are way too small for the price. After finishing my "Not So Fried Chicken" sandwich, I'm still left feeling hungry. For example, today I had to stop by an Indian restaurant afterward just to pick up a couple of samosas to fill up. Sure, they offer side dishes, but then a Sandwich meal ends up costing $20-$30. Not worth it, I will go to a restaurant instead.
Until I see more consistency in their kitchen and portion sizes that justify the price, I'm lowering my rating to 3 stars. I hope they will step up their game.
