Best Restaurants in Columbia, South Carolina | Eater Carolinas

"Insiders know Menkoi Ramen is one of Columbia’s best-kept secrets. While most local restaurants along Gervais Street trend more high-end, Menkoi is a humble hole in the wall with big flavor. The apps are standard, but save the majority of your stomach real estate for a gigantic bowl of Japanese ramen. Spicy pork clears out issues that the infamous pollen might be causing this time of year." - Helen Harrison

Excellent food and service. The egg was cooked perfectly, the noodles were soft and tender. Overall the best Ramen place I’ve had, my wife and I enjoyed the drinks and the ramen.

Simple and tasty, no non-sense ramen! You can eat a bowl full without feeling overwhelmed. My Chinese friend introduced me to this place and she loves it. There is only one vegetarian option and I would love to see more vegetarian options.

Ramen here was so good, it was heavenly we got the tonkatsu Ramen and the chicken Ramen. The service was speedy and kind. Both meals broths were so rich and very flavorful the tonkatsu was so tender, gosh this place is so good to get a quick bite that fills ur soul.

We were looking for a quick lunch and this fit the bill! The counter person was very kind and adjusted our selections as needed. We grabbed a table, our drinks, and before we knew it… our edamame and ramen bowls arrived! The food was yummy and just as we ordered it. The only suggestion… maybe work on the atmosphere a bit. It was relatively run down but nothing a fresh coat of paint and a some strategically chosen wall decor pieces couldn’t solve! Thanks so much!

Where do I start. Been coming here for 10 years. There used to be one in Charleston where I live, and it’s so good that I’ll drive up here just to have it from time to time. I’m so glad that throughout the years, they’ve never changed. It’s become a nostalgic flavor. Spicy tonkotsu is one of the best classic bowls of ramen I’ve had since I left Japan. So nice that a simple, consistent, no-frills shop like this can exist here. Thank you Menkoi

Passing through Columbia, we needed a quick but good stop to fill our stomachs. Menkoi Ramen House met our expectations. We wanted something Asian, preferably authentic. We liked that it was a quick serve and eat place, and that the ramen and rice balls were pretty good. Their prices are reasonable as well, and the service was good and friendly. Simple food and easy eats. Would recommend.

We came here for lunch and got a good parking spot in front of the restaurant. The inside is pretty modest and pretty basic. We ordered at counter upon entering and they suggested for costumer to order first before choose a table. We ordered edamame as an appetizer and 3 ramen bowls. We ordered spicy ramen, miso ramen, and chicken ramen. The condiments and drinks are on the side of the restaurant and easy to access. The portion of the ramen was pretty big and my kids can definitely shared a bowl of ramen. The broth was pretty flavorful and spicy ramen is American spicy. It's a good spot for ramen in downtown Columbia, SC. I would come back and eat here again if I stop by in Columbia, SC.

The food was great. I just wish the broth was hot. It was just warm.
