Inside the Romantic Safari Camp Where Prince Harry Took Meghan Markle | Vogue

"Maun, Botswana is a tiny outpost of a town halfway between the lush Okavango Delta and the bone-dry Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, and arriving there is like stepping back in time. Meno A Kwena offers an epic setting, and one that played a small yet pivotal part in the world’s most talked-about love story of the moment: HRH Prince Harry brought Meghan Markle here for her birthday last August, just weeks after they went on a blind date." - Todd Plummer

Great place to begin a Botswana safari tour! While advertised as a more rustic safari camp, Meno is still magical. The setting on a bluff above the Boteti river is perfect, and a great vantage point to see plenty of wildlife. The facilities are very good, with spacious tents, and comfortable beds (with heavy comforters which we appreciated in the winter). Food is very good and served in a communal setting. ||We had a private vehicle for the four of a us and did a full-day game drive to the Magadikgadi National Park. The entrance to the park for the game drive is roughly 45 minutes away. There is plenty of wildlife to be seen on the drive. Two nights and one full day was plenty of time at the camp.

Had an amazing stay at Meno a Kwena in late March 2024. |Experienced an early Zebra Migration which was an extraordinary wildlife experience. The staff was wonderful and very accommodating. Our group of six rated this stay the highlight of an extensive trip through Botswana and Namibia.

This is our third visit to Meno A Kwena. The zebra migration has arrived early (due to the drought) and so all day long there were herds of zebra coming to drink, kicking up dust and hee-hawing and shrieking. It was the most incredible spectacle, and the lodge gives you the perfect viewpoint of over the herds. Every night we heard lion roaring and jackal calling.|The staff were lovely and really looked after us – and Mpaphi was a fantastic guide.|It was great to see at first hand the work that Natural Selection are doing with young people from the community with Wild Shots Outreach – they are really uplifting the community and walking the talk. Well done Natural Selection.

Camp very tired. Staff apathetic. Attention to detail lacking. Animals distressed by lack of water. Honestly wish we hadn’t wasted our money. It was my husband’s 50th birthday gift which I let staff know about before & they said they would make it special but nothing happened. Camp definitely passed its ‘hay day’

I enjoyed my stay at this lovely tented camp with clean, comfortable, and spacious rooms. The meals were delicious and the staff were pleasant and helpful. The guides are very informative and are attentive to wildlife sightings so that photo opportunities are not missed.

Simply amazing. Really recommend staying here when the zebra migration is on. The views from the lodge are stunning and we loved the hide on the river to take photos and just observe the wildlife with a drink. Hippos in front of the room, a bushman experience that was really enjoyable, great game drives into the national park and the list goes on. Sega and the management team have done a fabulous job ensuring guests feel welcome. We travelled with our adult children and it was perfect. Kabelo was a great guide and a good source of knowledge about the region. All up we loved this camp and would definitely love to return. Also appreciated the food as the chef catered well for one of the family with GF and dairy free requirements. Thanks team!

It is not the most luxurious camp I’ve ever stayed at but it felt just right. Overlooking the Boteti River and nearby Makgadikgadi Pans National Park was a unique and beautiful side of Botswana I haven’t seen. The staff was terrific. Our meals were terrific and the guiding was excellent. I loved the “ferry” ride into the National Park where we saw large herds of zebra and elephant. I think this is a place better visited when water is in Boteti. This certainly is not the Okavango Delta or Chobe but a nice add on if you want to see a different corner of Botswana.

A delightful camp perched on a clifftop overlooking waterholes that attract zebra and elephants. |The camp also has a hide down on the waterhole for excellent access to the visiting animals and great photo opportunities.|We visited at a time when the camp also gave us the opportunity to meet visiting San People.|The set up of the different communal tents in the sand, the views from the guest tents, the environment created by the constant fire and remarkable guides, cooks/chefs make this a unique experience.| |
