Where to Eat Ramen in Tokyo

"Awarded: Bib Gourmand. In both style and substance, the laidback shop helmed by two young chefs represents the next generation of Tokyo's ramen-yas. Menson Rage offers a choice of three ramen types: shamo soba (a chicken-based shoyu ramen), niboshi ramen and maze-soba. All three are excellent, but the shamo soba is lauded as Menson Rage's most popular bowl." - Alethea Tan

Cool and spacious ramen place. Had a vibe that reminded me of a Melbourne (Australia) cafe. Had my favourite style noodles (thin white ones...prefer this style as they don't suck up the soup to quickly). I went for the dry sardine soup base ramen. Wow, delicious and intense flavour. Drank it all up. Nice soft boiled egg. Chashu was lean pork, nicely cooked, with a mild sweet flavour. Japanese and English menu

I have to give this review because the restaurant was very impolite. We entered the place by the exit line because there were two foreigners blocking the entrance. We were told to enter from the other line, but we were in the restaurant already. They let the foreign go ahead of us even though they were the one that was blocking the entrance. So, we just left. The place was empty at dinner time. So, maybe that was lucky for us. Saved us a bad meal.

The best ramen I've ever had. We had the 'Monday Special' pepper ramen with egg and rice. Incredible taste and lovely staff. Will be back again when we're in Tokyo next!!

We arrived at 10:30 on a weekday and there was no wait, the restaurant opened at 11:00. On weekdays, you can eat without waiting if you arrive at the restaurant on time of opening. Old-fashioned style where you are asked to order and pay after eating. Payment is by cash only. ◎Special Shamoi Soba 1650 yen Once you take a sip of the soup, you will be captivated. The chicken flavor and the mild soy sauce taste will make you fall in love with it. The noodles are thin and straight, and the taste of the soup is one of the three best soy sauce ramen I have ever had.

Honestly it was underwhelming and definitely overhyped…not to say it was bad per se, but at ¥1650 a bowl with such underwhelming taste…(yes, I know it can be subtle and I am keen to subtlety, but this wasn’t it, there are better places) cost performance is low. I’m still giving it 4 stars because the shop logo and interior vibes are cool. Soup: ordered the special shamo-soba, something was missing, underwhelming, but once again not terrible either Noodles: standard straight chunks soba noodles, al dente, always goes well with shoyu Toppings: charsiu was good, not great, but good. Not much else topping wise

It’s a famous ramen restaurant in this area. I was really hesitant about which flavor should I get. I went for the one with dry-fish flavor. The taste was special but I think I should take the one with chicken flavor. Anyway, it’s a nice restaurant with young and fresh vibe.

The Shamo-ramen was good, really well assembled but it lacked a punch. The noodles are nice and chewy but the meat can be better. Overall it's a good ramen but not exceptional. The service is good and quite fast (even if there were 8 people ahead of us). The atmosphere is quite fresh for a ramen bar with tons of skater related art

The soup was salty, the noodles were hard, the eggs were tasteless, and the pork was poor quality.

Yelp
I can't get enough of Menson Rage ramen. It's in a cute little town of Nishi-Ogikubo. My sister took me here when I was in town last month and it was hands down one of the best ramen I had in awhile. SF ramen sucks lol. The menu is pretty small which was easy for someone like me who is indecisive. Although it says "soba" don't get thrown off b/c it is still ramen. We both ordered the original and also shared a bowl of the chashu don. (I don't recommend sharing this since it's small and if you're hella hungry then you should get your own lol) Other than that, you sit at the counter or at the tables and the rest is just magic. Pricing is not bad either and ramen was delicious. Oh and this place is listed on the Michelin's food guide which means IT'S REALLY GOOD. So go try it out!!

Yelp
We are big ramen fans and we really enjoyed the ramen we had here for lunch. I read about the place on a ramen blog so I knew they always have two kinds- niboshisoba which is a fishy ramen and shamosoba which is a chicken shoyu ramen. They didn't have an English menu so we just ordered one of each of those and a couple of beers. It looked like they also had a soupless ramen (mazesoba) but we didn't know about that till we saw someone eating it. No big deal because it was a chilly rainy day and we both wanted hot ramen! I really enjoyed the chicken ramen and my husband really enjoyed the fishy ramen. We were lucky that there were only 3 or 4 people in front of us when we got there and so we only waited about 15 minutes. When we left there were a bunch of people in line. Be prepared to wait! The place had a nice hipster vibe and the bathrooms were nice and clean. A great option if you are in the area.
