I visited Menthe et Couscous on a Sunday night with a reservation. The ambiance was calm, only two other tables, and the décor and music created a very pleasant Moroccan atmosphere. Service was polite and smooth, and I appreciated the traditional touch throughout the restaurant.
I ordered the lamb shank tajine with couscous, and my guest had the couscous royal. The flavors were warm and well-spiced, and the tajine broth itself was delicious. We also tried a kunafa and two traditional teas, both very good in taste, although the kunafa portion was quite small.
As someone who works in the culinary field, I did notice that the lamb shank tasted frozen and slightly old, even though the sauce and spices helped mask it. Unfortunately, I couldn’t eat more than a few pieces. At a total of about $180 for two people, I expected higher-quality ingredients, especially for the main dishes.
I’ve also realized they offer a dance show on Fridays and Saturdays, which might create a fuller experience compared to the quieter weekday nights.
Overall, it’s a peaceful spot for traditional Moroccan food, good service, and a relaxing non-weekend dinner. However, considering the price and the quality of the lamb, I’m not sure I would return after trying their two main dishes. I do hope they review their suppliers, because the food has potential, the flavors are there
