The Perfect 24-Hour Food Itinerary for Oaxaca, Mexico | Eater

"The city’s oldest market, offering a lively midday respite where visitors can shop for mezcal jicaras, wooden and clay kitchenware, woven goods, and sample traditional frozen fruit ices while observing the ebb and flow of vendors and street musicians. The market’s remodeled stalls still harbor century-old culinary traditions and local vendors who sell time-honored recipes and regional specialties." - María Ítaka

Google
I love this place it always surprise me with lots of fruits, veggies, mole, quesillo, pan de yema, cecina, tasajo, tlayudas, and etc., cannot name them all from my beautiful Veracruz and Oaxaca but I can tell you that if you are from Oaxaca or Veracruz you will love this place, really authentic. Friendly staff, make sure you bring a recycle bag that will be something they will never waive $0.25😉 everything else is worth the price. From masa and tortillas recently blend and machine made to tlayudas freshly prepare.

This is the only Expression Oaxaqueña restaurant that is still open. My favorite is the Taco de Abuela. It had been 5 years since I last had one. Made me so happy to relive familiar delicious tastes. The best!

Dear Benito, you will forever be our favorite store that brings all the foods we miss from home. Every visit is a trip down memory lane, from the delicious pan de yema and rosca de Reyes to the fresh tortillas, chiles, carne, longaniza and so much more. We highly recommend this store to anyone looking for authentic flavors, and a huge thank you to the staff and the panaderos for making such delicious bread that you can smell from blocks away! It’s always a treat to stop by :)

Google
They mix the old meat with new l was really upset when on the middle of the meat roll l found the old strips of meat even with red chilly this is every day more terrible l use to buy there Tasajo and cecina but lately they have different staff that the vecina it's unflavored and the Tasajo usually it's salty but lately you can't even eat it, the staff there are mean there is a chubby lady( sorry for the description) but looks like she is in charge of the place but for the worst before she was on the other store cross the street until she come to this store everything it's getting worse the cashiers and people on charge of the little restaurant l don't know what they think they are seriously :) but they take they time to bad attend you with bad attitude and making faces c'mon it's a tinny market with oaxacan products and really expensive and outdated the bread here its too hard to bite it it's been made weeks ago no days, weeks! Maybe they brought it from oaxaca l don't know but it's not worth to buy expensive old bread, the only good thing were the meats and tortillas but lately nothing! You can see the prices on my photos meat are expensive and terrible

Google
I love this place! In my opinion this is THE place to get masa for tamales. The meat is superb quality. This is the meat I buy when I'm going to be asando carne on the grill. They have a small section of produce for your basic salsa making essentials and they have some already made. (Try their salsa it's delicious and if you need it spicier they'll add more Chile ) I haven't tried their restaurant section. But I'm sure I won't be disappointed.

Yelp

Chicka A.

Yelp

Yelp
Eh, I should have checked the reviews before coming here. I live down the street and was in need of some quick, inexpensive food. I had walked by several times and had even tried to order food at the counter, but no one ever comes out or pays attention to take my order. I tried again and it was nothing special. There's a little bit of a language barrier, but luckily, my junior-high-level Spanish ("torta de asada, para llevar") got me through. I also ordered a fresh orange juice. If you spend less than $10 on a credit/debit card, there is a $2 charge. A little ridiculous, but I was hungry. This mercado is attached to a little carneceria that has always looked good. The convenience store has the usual goods and even produce and baked goods, plus a counter where you can order prepared food (burritos, tlayudas, quesadillas, breakfast omelets and pancakes, etc) and also fresh juices and smoothies. There is also ice cream.... if any of my friends who are familiar with Oaxacan cuisine can tell me what "tuna ice cream" is, I would love that. Anyways, you wait for your food on a little patio on the other side. I was the only person waiting for an order, and it was slooooowwww. Finally, I took my food home. The asada was gristly and fatty, with burned, crispy edges. The bread wasn't soft like I'm used to, and it was just underwhelming in general. It also came with some overcooked, seasoned fries. Nothing special here.

Yelp
They're purple tortillas are the best, only problem is that they run out on this quick and they don't have parking. There's meter parking outside but it's always busy- kinda hectic. If your going you must have a driver to wait for u while you shop

Yelp
Overall I had a good experience here. The produce seemed fresh just a bit more on the expensive side. The place is divided into 3 sections in the front they sell food/bakery, then the produce section, with the butcher shop towards the back with 1 or 2 employees in each section of the store making the lines go faster. I will say though some of the employees can be a little nicer apart from that was able to get everything I needed in one trip.

Yelp
I heard an advertisement for this "mercado" on the radio on my way home from work, and they talked about how much stuff they had for sale. So i took my wife there as a surprise as she's from Oaxaca. Let me start off by saying that its an average little Market with a couple of products from Mexico. The people working there were rude and not helpful. They should be a shame for advertising themselves as a "Mercado". Never again am I going there....

Yelp
This small little restaurant is inside a market so it's pretty easy to miss. They have a pretty good selection of Mexican food, like tortas, sopes, burritos, and 1/2 chickens, for an affordable price. I got the special #2 with a (carne asada) burrito, handmade-tasting tortilla chips, and a can of soda for $5.25. The burritos was HUGE and was filled with asada, some rice, beans, cheese, and some guacamole. It was a great meal for a great price and I will definitely come back. Also, the cashier was super nice and very accommodating of all my requests!

Yelp
This place sucks. Very RUDE. The meat was really fatty and chewy. Thought it would be good and authentic turns out it wasn't. I definetly do not recommend this place! I'd you're looking for a great Mexican food yelp deal take your money to H.O.T on Hollywood Blvd!

Yelp
I've been here several times. Always friendly staff & helpful. Selection is limited however quality. They helped me in my pursuit of making empanadas...currently a work in progress. The baked goods are always delicious.
