Mercado Central

"There’s a buzzy vibe to this brightly decorated townhouse with its cheery tiled kitchen and fresh fish display. Sustainable British and Spanish produce features in hearty dishes with leanings to Galicia and the Basque Country. Start with some sharing plates, then move on to grilled meat or fish." - Michelin Inspector

Incredible food and the set lunch menu is a great value at £35 for 3 courses. Loved the monkfish and wild berry soda especially. Definitely deserves it’s spot on the Michelin guide ⭐️

Wow. This was such a great find for us. Mercado is a traditional Spanish restaurant. The menu isn’t huge which is always a good sign that the food is prepared for you as you order. Our meal was spectacularly good, the highlight being the endive, orange goats cheese and nut salad. Yes really. The salad was amazing, and check out my reviews. I usually rave about meat!! That said, by main dish was also very good. I opted for the pork and was not disappointed. The service was friendly and professional, and the relaxed atmosphere added to our lovely evening. The wine is all Spanish. It’s a good selection and not bad value. We will be there again (and again)

I had a wonderful dining experience at this stylish Spanish restaurant in Cambridge. The grilled octopus tentacle as a starter was outstanding – perfectly cooked with incredible seasoning that really brought out the flavor. The squid ink risotto as a main was rich and flavorful, with just the right texture. Beautiful plating, great atmosphere, and friendly (and good-looking!) staff. Highly recommended.

Underwhelmed Expection is going to be high because of the prices. Prices like that are not going to be regular hide out but a place for special occasions for sure. Trying to maximise the experience, we ordered the lunch set with two courses. Quite a surprise that the mussels starter was served in room temperature. While the bread edges were a bit too chewy. While the other starter was just average, nothing special. The mains were nice, but the portions were very small. The staff and the environment were nice., but overall it's too overpriced. Also, I was hungry several hours later......

I had their three course lunch for just under £40. I was recommended the pan con tomate, which was a great start. There was a nice freshness from the tomatoes and savouriness from the lomo. Next, their onglet steak. Although the presentation was beautiful, the flavours didn't quite stand out to me. It's worth noting that the steak came out as rare - I hadn't been asked how I like the steak to be cooked. Personally, I was fine with this level of doneness but I can understand if a different diner could have been a bit upset by this. Finally, the tarta de Santiago for dessert. This was nice. The tart was moist, had a good almond flavour, and a gentle citrusy sweetness. The Chantilly cream helped to blend everything together. Overall, this was not a bad dining experience. I had a relaxing time and enjoyed their great selection of music. Service could definitely use some improvement, however, as it felt impersonal and rushed at times.

The food was very good! We had a extraordinary Tomahawk Steak - the service was both polite and attentive. Definately a 5 Star suggestion! Greetings from Germany

We visited Mercado Central as a group of four. Booking was easy, and we were seated at a lovely table by the window. The restaurant has a nice, clean atmosphere and the setting is charming. The menu is full of Spanish ingredient names, which might be tricky if you're not familiar with them—definitely needed the server to explain a few things. We ordered three lunch menus and one main (with three different starters and four different mains), aiming to sample a good variety. Unfortunately, service was slow: about 20 minutes to take our order and another 40 minutes for the food to arrive, even though the restaurant was starting to empty around 2:30pm. Presentation was good and the food tasted fine, but nothing really stood out. Some mains came much later than others, and by then, the earlier plates had already gone cold. We shared everything between us but left feeling quite hungry. Portions were very small, and for the price, the value just wasn’t there. Overall, a nice place with a lovely setting and decent food, but the experience didn’t live up to the expectations—and certainly didn’t fill us up.

The lunch menu is a good deal (for the UK at least) and the food was good, because we asked for a smaller glass of wine, 125ml instead of 175ml, and the price was £9 for what's normally £10 for 175ml. Of course, there's no set rules on how much to charge a smaller glass of wine, but it didn't leave a good feeling when you get 70% of the wine but paying 90% of the prize.

Yelp
Solid tapas location in Cambridge. I personally preferred all the starters over the main. If I came again, I would go all starters. The tomato salad was by far the best dish, followed by the pan con tomato, and gambas. The tortilla was also great!

Yelp
I love this new Spanish restaurant in central Cambridge. We were a group of eight and started with a selection of tapas. My favorites included the Mojama de Huelva - thinly sliced cured tuna with blood orange and radicchio which was light and extremely tasty, their amazing tortilla and camerones de Huelva. Clearly, Huelva is a good Spanish town for food! Then we moved onto our individual main courses. My whole John Dory was fresh and delicious - even though it came from Cornwall, not Huelva! Not only was the food excellent but the atmosphere and service were really good. This is a great restaurant.
