We had a lot of fun walking the Mercado. Lots of jewelry. Small gifts and homemade gifts. It's beautiful. The people are very nice and welcoming. They have boots they are not expensive. If my suitcase wasn't so heavy I would have bought a pair.

You descend some stairs to a narrow walkway lined with small souvenir shops at the Mercado de Artesanias. I think the price point makes shopping there more accessible to a wider range of travel budgets. It was a pleasant enough stroll even though we didn’t find a souvenir to bring home. We bought some fried pecans and sunflower seeds from the guy cooking up batches right there. They were a great snack!

A nice place to see and buy souvenirs , prices are for tourists but still you can bargain for a fair price. There are a lot of places to buy so take your time and choose what you like as you will find the same ítem in 10 different stores. Go early so is less crowded. 4/5 stars for me.

Fantastic! All the locals were very helpful and courteous. The prices were good. A man in the street gave us a history of the city.

Got lots of souvenirs there. If you are coming from a high income country, you may hear you have to bargain. Recall that even if you pay tourist prices, that’s still totally fine as transferring money from high to middle or low income countries is a good thing for the party involved, so don’t feel the need to bargain. Pay the tourist price if you can.

If you like to shop, check his is a great place. We found some great cowboy boots, sliver earrings, leather goods. Hand embroidered goods. There is so much artist craft from all over Mexico. They also have a product, meat market. The food booths, it was so yummy. Please don’t be cheap, this is what the people live of is there work.

Yelp
It's kind of a must-see when in SMdA, and definitely worth the visit. It's huge, spanning a couple of blocks, but tbh, so much of the arts and crafts are really similar. It's a great place to shop for souvenirs and the people working the stalls are super friendly. There are a couple of good restaurants nearby and some require a wait, so the Mercado is a great place to walk around before your meal. Highly recommended for local color.

Yelp
It's basically an indoor flea market with different stalls. It's like any market in Mexico where each booth starts to look the same as you keep a walking. A few booths definitely stick out as being unique but most are the same thing over and over. It is conveniently located downtown so it's and easy stop. There are areas with street parking or paid lots nearby Tip: shop around first to find the best price. I found the exact same magnet for less money at a different booth. This is a good place for pens, bags, wallets, keychains, magnets, etc... the small inexpensive souvenirs.

Yelp
This market has amazing local stuff. You can negotiate the price sometimes depending on the shop. A lot of shops also accept cards in case you don't have cash, but you can get a better deal if you are carrying cash with you. that's what I recommend.

Yelp
Just when you think its the end, this market of artisans continues block to block. People selling all sorts of things from art to jewelry to food, there's a lot to see and experience. Along the way, you'll find murals and restrooms that cost $6 pesos.

Yelp
It's a good walk because they sell different things here and also it has a lot of art and good gifts you can take home

Yelp
We loved loved this market. We were in SMA for four days and went here three times. It's really one very long market and hard to get lost in. Someone else mentioned getting lost, but it's a straight shot with a larger food area at the top. So many different stall, craft, foods, and you can find something for you or as a souvenir for others. We watched a local artist paint a ceramic cow skull and loved it. It's now on our wall! We also watched another local artist paint birds onto bark scrolls, we got those too. Of course, there are all the typical jewelry, bags, embroidered clothing, and everything else you find in markets BUT the opportunity to get authentic food and purchase directly from the local artists... this was a highlight for us!

Yelp
This was something I always wanted to do. I see these markets on Tv and always wondered what they are really like. Let me start by saying you can get lost in no time. Lefts , right corridor and corridors. They had fresh meat, fish, vegetables and what ever else you can think of! It had your typical knock off clothing, but no one pressured you into or housed you into buying anything. Don't know if I could buy meat there thou..

Yelp
An overwhelming amount of stuff that looks cheap, but when you ask for the price, is shockingly expensive. I found a silver bracelet I liked and it was $200! In all the stalls, only found two things that I actually wanted to inquire about.

Yelp
Gorgeous market with tons of Mexican handicrafts. Everything from fruit, jewelry, shoes, nicknacks, scarves, trinkets, iron works, and food! Such a colorful and glorious experience!

Yelp
What a fabulous large indoor outdoor market, selling absolutely everything from sun hats to Panama hats to fresh vegetables, fruits, By the way many I have never seen before like Cacti leaves, roasted corn, tacos, meats, cut right there by a butcher. Herbs, I have never seen such massive fresh bay leaves, unbelievable. Massive bunches of all kinds of fresh flowers, trinkets, antiques, silver, home decor, drinks, cut fruits ready to eat. And of course many many local Mexican people buying or selling their wares. We spent about an hour or two here. It was amazing. Do not miss this. Definitely a peer into the locals way of life.

Yelp
Look for Tortas Beltran!! The most amazing tortas and smoothies, all natural!! We had a $12 meal for two! You can walk around and check out the good deals on candy and hand made jewelry.

Cinthya Q.

Yelp
This market is an outdoor market with everything you might need from food (mole, cheese, etc.) and artisanal products. The prices were everything from market value to overprices (gringo tax). All in all, it's an excellent place to find something you might be looking for or as a last stop to find something you haven't seen elsewhere. Tip #1 buy some ice cream and make it a leisurely afternoon. Tip #2 have a number in mind of what you're willing to pay for an item (a realistic number, one you've heard elsewhere). I didn't see any bargaining going on in the market and am not sure if this is the place for it.

Yelp
A must do when you are in San MIguel de Allende. So many vendors, so many handicrafts, and great prices!!! Bring cash only and be prepared to shop!!! Loved it, bought some Talavera, alpaca and copper bracelets, and tin decorations.

Moni M.

Yelp
Sensory overload... in a good way. The Mercado is a long narrow corridor that stretches across a few streets. Lots of opportunities to find pieces typical to SMA and the rest of Mexico, and you may even get the chance to see people working on the items they'll soon put out for sale. Be prepared that prices can vary, nothing too significant but don't be upset when you find the same piece for 10-15 pesos less (let's face it, depending on where you are coming from that may not even be $1). Vendors are willing to negotiate, but given the time and attention they put into their pieces, the prices are rather reasonable to begin with.

Cindy R.

Yelp
This is a great market for just about anything. We started at the end where they sell candy nuts, fresh fruits and cheeses. They were an abundance of things to choose from. As you wander through you will find a wide array of antiques, jewelry, pottery, art, rugs, clothing, metal works and housewares. I picked up a gorgeous rug, hand knit sweaters and dresses for my granddaughters.

Nico D.

Yelp
Fabulous. There are more markets connected to this- the one with herbs and boots is my favorite area. I don't care much for tourist trinkets but I got wonderful paintings made by a local artist, and some good embroidered clothing. Also wonderful tea herbs, hand emrbroidered Otomi pillowcases and Hand- embroidered Indian clothing.

Victoria W.

Yelp
Excellent selection of items and vendors, the food is good, and the fruit is fresh. Some of the vendors speak English or at least enough tp tell you the price if you have trouble with numbers. The candy store is excellent, and makes some very interesting items.
