The 12 Best Affordable Restaurants in Phoenix, Arizona | Eater Phoenix

"Tucked inside the Desert Sky Mall, Mercado de los Cielos is part food court, part air-conditioned street market, and one of the most dynamic places to eat in Phoenix. The massive former department store now holds more than 200 stalls selling everything from kitchenware and cowboy boots to quinceañera dresses. In two corners of the mercado, clusters of food vendors serve a wide mix of regional Mexican cooking; mariscos piled high with lime and hot sauce, Mexico City-style tortas stacked with milanesa or al pastor, aguas frescas in every color, crispy tacos dorados, and even Mexican-style sushi and hot wings. Prices stay accessible, and the layout encourages wandering between snacks. Follow the sound of cleavers and the scent of grilled meat to whatever looks best that day." - McConnell Quinn

Google
Great place to shop for grad and formal attire at a reasonable price. As well for party supplies. We were able to buy a piano for a really low price as well I've been going there for over 10 years to buy my children's graduation attire under 80 bucks. recommend coming here before going anywhere else. We also have purchased gold rings at a great price

Google
Beautiful stores. It's an indoor flea market with lots of authentic Latin imports.

The food is okay , my husband said that the tacos were not that good , but I actually like it . There is no horchata , or aguas frescas Wich is wired .

I do not like this place. It is unwelcoming, no air conditioning, smells bad, and the food looks terrible. Vendors are pushy, and are rude if you do not buy something from them. One rudely told me to leave if I was not going to buy anything, even though I walked in only a moment before. I will gladly take my business elsewhere.

Love this area its always busy. You can always find something cool. They have food and restrooms

Google
Have always loved showing here but lately I've encountered alot of shady people following around, didn't feel as safe the last couple times. And I'm mexican

Great place to pick up anything. Found a beautiful dress and clothes for a special event we have coming up. Are at the restaurant and it was fantastic.

I like this store, but their WiFi doesn’t let you connect to it which sucks because the cell service is poor in there.

Yelp
Shout out to Wood Garden! This review is for them. From the jump very friendly and welcoming. The man who helped us was eager to make our food and you can tell in the food because once he served us our food (carne asada fries) you know he put love into it. I know it's a simple dish but the carne asada was good and for the portion and price, it's a steal. He served us and was at our service. Checking in on us and offering more salsas or cilantro or anything to be honest. The service itself would bring me back to try other food items

Yelp
This is for a random new "pet" shop that I went to. They have birds and turtles and baby chicks. It seems like the method of transportation is inhumane and poorly done. I saw them restocking baby chicks in a cage and they were grabbing them out of a PAPER BAG. I'm not sure if they even take good care of them but there was like 20 chicks in the bag. This place should get shut down.

Yelp
Immerse yourself within aisles of colorful, brilliantly decorated vendor stalls. Lively music and joyful chatter welcomes you through your journey within the Mercado de Los Cielos. A hidden gem within the Desert Sky Mall, the Mercado offers a variety of consumer goods at a discounted price. Clothing, electronics, jewelry, and shoes are a few of the highlights from my Mercado visits. Each time I make my way through the Mercado, new advancements and installments help to pave the way for busy commerce. It is easy to strike up a pleasant conversation with the jovial workers. Vendors are always willing to bargain if the price is right. Without a doubt, my favorite aspect of the Mercado is the abundant and gracious food court. Over 7 different food stalls serve a plethora of tasty cuisines, catering to every appetite. Authentic Mexican cuisine can be fully explored.

Yelp
Went there on Satruday to see if I could get my screen replaced on my new ipad mini 5th gen that I had dropped a month ago and cracked my screen. I Visited "CellMart & Repairs" (Space P-5 by foodcourt) to get a quote on the screen itself because everything else worked fine. The owner told me he could do it for 150$ but he only had the opposite color (white) and I agreed cause it wasnt much of a difference. Told me come back in an hour and itll be ready. Before I left he made me turn it on so I did and unlock it and I thought nothing of it. When I come back he is not there but walks up 5 minutes later with my ipad in hand as if still working on it. He tells me "my screens are not working I tried a couple and nothing" then shows me it wont turn on with the new screen on it. I wasnt sure what to respond and he suggested I go to another place and see. I said ok. He then removes the new screen and puts my old screen on, which is more damaged than I had dropped it off, within 5 minutes . I try to turn it on and it no longer turns on and he just says try somewhere else. I wasnt sure what to think getting my item back worse then i dropped it off with him and not being able to fix it at that moment. Mind you also left his blood on the back of it and I didnt notice until I went to the next spot in the same area. So I went to another spot (Q1) and told them my situation and he told me they would attempt to replace the screen and see if it works and if it doesnt then he wouldnt charge me 160$. I told them ok and returned in an hour. I got bad news and he said that my ipad wasnt fixable, "whoever worked on it last did not turn it off and fried the electrical components inside" I was in shocked and had him repeat himself and said I couldnt fix it from there. He gave me a card and said if I had other electronics he can help me with to reach out. I was beyond upset I went back to confront the owner Mamun at p-5 and also recorded and he had nothing to say other than he was sorry. He damaged my ipad to where I couldnt fix it anymore when all it needed was a new screen. I dont recommend ever!

Yelp
This review is mostly for the food vendors in the area. We had lunch at one of the vendors, but I'm not sure the name of it. The food was good. The family members I was with had chicken mole enchiladas (they said it was the best they've ever had), carne asada fries (really good, plenty of cheese), asada plate (good, but oddly chopped asada, almost seemed like ground beef), and carne asada tacos dorados (I think they were good, because she almost licked the plate clean). Service was fairly quick, especially since we each ordered such different dishes and the kitchens seemed small. We also tried the heladería. There were MANY options, but most of us just got ice cream scoops which were all great. My son ordered a strawberry raspado which came topped with lots of fresh strawberries. It looked really good! Shops had many items, but were pretty expensive. I paid $100 for two huipils I wanted for my grandmother, whereas I was able to buy 4 for $80 in El Paso. I like that it's attached to the main mall, and actually a genius way to use what looks like an old department store space. Will be coming back when I return to the area.

Yelp
The last time someone in my family went here they saw someone bleed out and die of a gunshot wound. 0/10 would not recommend. The food is ok tho.

Yelp
I have a question what happened to the Antojitos axaqueños restaurant that was in there.

Yelp
I am both amazed and impressed by the ability of the southwest valley to adapt to an expanding Latino market. Gone are the rotating clothing stores from throughout the years like Steve & Barry's that could never make it. Here to stay is this amalgamation of various small business crammed into a small space. It's good for the little guy as well as the mall as a whole. You can get a bunch of clothes...most of which weren't extraordinary, or my style, but they're there. Statistically, someone on my friends list reading this HAS to be a paisa. Or in need of an inexpensive suit, at least. There are other various services like phone cards, notaries, etc. What really shines for me is the entirely separate food court, complete with a fruit stand in which I can buy a whole coconut, or some other, awesome, prepackaged fruit. America has a lot of swap meets, but I feel as though this is the most true street market experience I've had on this side of the Atlantic. Many of you are going to make the mistake of overlooking this. It revitalizes a market that's had some bad luck, and is a real diamond in the rough that can be the west valley. I'd come back.

Yelp
OMG!!! I couldn't believe all the stuff they have at this place! The food, the candy, the booths with all kinds of stuff! It might not be a true Mexican Mercado but it comes very close to it. The only thing we have to complain about would be the bathrooms, but that's probably not the place's fault...some people still need lessons on basic hygiene and manners.

Zendy R.

Yelp
I love go there for the food is really good ,But this store that" fix "watches is the worst, I took my watch to fix ,1st they take so long after 2 weeks they call that was ready, omg they do a horrible work and stole some parts . This shop is name "a&m" sales & Repairs is next to the food tables , Don't loose your money and they are expensive too

Yelp
This place is a freakin joke! Only think good is the food. The shops are ridiculously expensive and the eyebrow place there is a nightmare. Let me give you an example of what I went through by going to the eyebrow place. She wanted to charge me twice because after signing my name I clicked done one the iPad. Clearly because I was done signing... then she raises her voice at me asking me what I had clicked. I explained to her I had clicked done since I was done signing. She then talks to her boss in their language, and then her manager tells me my card was declined and I told her it wasn't. So I opened up my bank app and showed her the charge. She then zoomed in the pic and clicked on the details to make sure I wasn't lying. Then she said ok. And asked if I wanted to tip. I laughed and told her to F off and left.

Yelp
Mercado de Los Cielos is an indoor Swapmeet. You'll find Piñatas, Mexican Candy, Shoes, Clothes, and lots more. It has tons of different vendors and access to the Dessert Sky Mall. Please Note some Vendors DON'T open on Wednesdays! I personally dont trust small vendor shops with my credit card so to these places I carry cash. Some vendors charge you a fee of 0.50 cents to use your debit/credit card

Christopher B.

Yelp
This was not what I was expecting to see. I was completely expecting to see a grocery store and BAM... to my surprise, it was like walking into an indoor, Mexican bazaar with individual vendors. They had quite a variety of vendors, from food to telephone service, portrait studios and clothing, and everything in between. It's not my cup of tea, but I figured I'd post this so that others do not get blindsided like me!

Yelp
Why would an office administration be responsible for the business of their vendors?? I don't get it. They are not the answering service for their customers. With the type of environment this shopping place is, i would figure every one would know it's not a personalized restaurant or take out place. I would suggest if you can't get a number to a shop, go in that one time and get a number directly from the vedor. Next time you will get the call in service you are expecting, IF it is offered by the vendor of course. :) This place is a good family environment to shop and the food is good, authentic and yummy!

Yelp
This place is a cross between a swap meet and a... Well I guess it's just like a mexican swap meet but indoors. They have good food, fruits, drinks, and countless snacks, oh yeah and the seafood is fresh and tasty. The crap the vendors sell is pretty much that, crap, but you wouldn't really expect less from a indoor swap meet, that is literally attached to the most ghetto mall in all of the valley.
google avatar

Justin S.

Yelp
This is like an indoor swap meet. Lots of small vendor stalls selling the usual assortment of Chinese made goods. There are though decent leather works to be had if you have the money for them. There are some vendors with Mexican versions of american products that can be acquired for cheaper here. The best part of this place is browsing around with snacks as they have two mini food courts. It's right in/connected to the mall so it's really convenient.

Becky R.

Yelp
I like the shops and you can get a lot of authentic Mexican anything. The food in the food court is bomb BUT prices are pretty high and not too many shops are willing to negotiate. That's why I give 4 out of 5.

Yelp
This place is very unique I went in there to look for a cell phone case and not only found that but found a car stereo ,notary public, barbershop, and fruit so this is my new place anything you need is in there....

Yelp
They broke my phone even more ! I have an IPhone 5s the white with gold , my screen was cracked but EVERYTHING else was working perfect .no problems with it EVER! We went looking for a "Mexican cell phone place " due to the fact that I use to work in one a year ago I knew that they're not as expensive . We went in & stopped at the first cellphone store that we saw in there called "Profecional Repair " The gentleman was very nice , I asked if they used use parts he said no. My boyfriend suggested that I get the front of it all black. I wasn't such a fan of the idea, the gentleman then said that if I get the all black screen I will lose my fingerprint unlocker thing . I said no just stick with the original one... He said ok give me 20 minutes , my boyfriend & I went to the wellsfargo across the street to take out money . Came back at exactly 21 minutes & the man said "It's almost ready!" We walked down to get some snacks at One of the Carreta De Lily , looked at some tvs, phone cases & walked back to the cellphone place. The screen had a black line across of it , the man said it must be an effective screen.. Give me 15 minutes to change it , we left a bit upset .... We later came back & he explained to us how this stuff never happens blah blah blah.. I looked at my phone & was SO HAPPY that it looked new once again . I put my phone on my pocket because I was scared of dropping it again , and my Otter case was in the car . My boyfriend and I drove across the street to buy some wings at Long Wongs, as my boyfriend got down I started cleaning my case all happy that my phone was going to look brand new once again. And when my case was clean I took out my phone & placed it on my case ... When I tried unlocking it with my fingerprint nothing was happening , my home button felt/ feels and looks lose ... I went & checked my settings & my touch was still on . I told my boyfriend LOOK my button is all lose and doesn't unlock ! So we drove back, and the man that did the work was busy , so the other employee came & turned off my phone using the home button & top button , that didn't work . Then the man that did the job got the phone & did the same ... He opened my phone again & came to us and said look the button still work it's just not detecting the fingerprint, I said ok well fix it , he said he couldn't , I told him what do you mean ? It worked perfectly fine before , he repeated himself . & I started getting frustrated, I told him what can you do ? He said the same thing that he can't fix it, but that the button still works blah blah blah... I said no my button doesn't work because I can't unlock it with my fingerprint . I started getting even more mad that tears started coming out . My boyfriend started doing the talking now , he said look we brought you a phone that was working perfect the only thing broken was the screen , I want you to fix it .. The other employee came & took the phone and said just put their old screen back. I yelled at him & said why ? So I leave with my phone all broken with a button that doesn't work you guys have to fix it ! My boyfriend asked the man who did the job that we wanted our money back, the man said ok I have to change the screen. & my boyfriend said will the button work ? He said no with a little awkward smile, & my boyfriend said "so you're telling me that I'm getting my phone back with the broken screen & a broken button " he said "it's not broken just the fingerprint is not working" everyone was now frustrated , the man at the end said I'll see if it works with the old screen he said give me like 30 minutes & come back, we stayed there watching . A long time had passed & he kept talking to his pals taking his sweet time & I told my boyfriend go find the manager . He said they have a manager? I said yeah I remember seeing a little office last time , it's on the edge. He went & came back with her card , he said that if he doesn't fix it to give him the card & to tell him that she wants to talk to him, & for us to go talk to her... So finally after 40 something minutes the man came to us & said the same thing again that my button is not broken blah blah blah ... We said ok so there's nothing that you can do ? (We wanted him to suggest something, to try to offer us a deal for breaking my phone ) but he just said no , if you want your money back I get my screen & that's it . I said ok just put the new screen on please he said "of coarse... with a smile " he came back after 10 minutes & said "here you go" & I checked my phone to see if anything else was broken. Then my boyfriend handed him the card telling him that she wants to talk to him , he smirked & said no problem. We went to her & we all went to the little shop, & blah blah blah .. In the end a nice gentleman next to them that rents them the spot gave us 55 $ back out of his pocket . But they charged us 65$ . I also had my 2 month old baby throughout this horrible experience.

Yelp
Listen I am have been in places like this before, I got my phone screen fixed here and the guys were very nice and professional. Watch what you buy here in this some of the places, because once you pay they don't want to honor your return! All sales are final! I had a situation in H17 where the the guy sold me a stolen defective case battery for my phone, with two different serial numbers, the one on the device was different from the one on the box, I could not even register it with the company. So I went to return it for a refund and got curse out and threaten by someone else that was working in his place, it really left a bad taste in my mouth. This was bad business, how do you sell a product with two serial numbers opened before and the battery is dead and call that a legitimate sale, and not refund the customers money! The encounter got pretty ugly and the police came, but cool heads prevailed and my money was returned.. But trust me lesson learned, valuable! I will not do business ever again in this place! Be careful in this place some of the vendors do not even speak English, especially with the Pharmacy (P1) and electronics store! You have to have honor when doing business its in the Code of Ethics, that's how you keep your customers returning, you can't only want just one side of the sale and that's just receiving cash!

Yelp
On 03/24/2019, I accompanied my sister to go get her phone fixed at a phone repair shop in the MErcados de los cielos mall. THis store is the one that advertises $29 or more to fix phones. As i was there with my sister I saw a car charger made for Iphones that i really liked. I bought It for $10 and went on my way. The next day after work as i had my phone plugged into the charger, the charger decides to stop working and my phone will no longer turn on. The charger burned my battery as well as the lightning port. I went back to the store to ask for their help. The store Rep broke my case (which was gift!!!) and he was wanting to charge me $65 to fix my battery!!! My phone is now wrecked because he opened it up and now apple services cannot help me. This store is a fraud: and he also advised us before any of this happened that all the other phone fixers buy the products from him. So obviously he is selling accessories that will cause your phone to fail, and therefore make you return and spend more.

Yelp
We absolutely love going to El Mercado to try their different food that they have but now I doubt we will ever go back. We contacted El Mercado's main phone number to get a number for one of their vendors to place a carry out order for our office (they don't have their vendors listed online) the secretary answered and said they don't have a list they keep with phone numbers but she would go to the vendor (which is literally a few feet away and have them call us) thirty minuted passed by with no phone call. We then called back and had someone else answer. The new girl stated that they dont keep a list and I told her I was aware but that the other girl was going to have the vendor call us. She placed me on hold and answered and said you have to come in I'm sorry that girl is not here and we don't do that. I can't believe that they would rather have their vendors lose business than to literally walk a FEW feet out of their way to get their number. As an office how do you NOT keep a list? If I ever go back I will let the vendor know that their "front office" is allowing them to lose business.

Fernanda R.

Yelp
I would recommend the "mariscos " they make the best shrimp tostadas . One of the benefits of going there is that you don't get all the noise from the "banda's" that are usually playing at mariscos places.
