Mercado San Antón

Is a must visit destination in Madrid. Awesome place to find lots of tapas vendors/stalls on the second floor,a great variety of meats and cheeses on the first floor and a restaurant on the top floor!

Nice Mercado with good tapas options on the top floor. Plenty of table and counter seating. They have toilets but are accessed by a code printed out on the bottom of your bill from one of the tapas places (so don’t throw the bill out!).

LOVED IT!! Was in the neighborhood and decided to have lunch here. It was absolutely amazing! Much less crowded than San Miguel. Food stands were perfection! Had a great Lunch there.

All of these types of markets are very appealing. Whether it's for grabbing a snack or just spending some time, they're really great places. This one was also very nice, but overall it felt a bit expensive to me. One tapa costs €2. Other than that, the atmosphere and shopping options are excellent.

Went to the tapas stall and had a little snack of spiced sardines, spicy squid, and a croquette. Perfect little bite. I wasn’t a huge fan of the squid, but I don’t like squid and this was just a tasting test. It was still done very well.

Nice modern Mercado, good selection of tapas, visited for lunch on Monday, it was not crowded with plenty seating tables, tried palea, ibercio and bao buns all very good

I got a huuuge (the photo dont make it justice) sangria for only 7.5 euros. It was gigantic and supper delicious!! The tapas are okay. I mean dont get me wrong they are also delicious but a bit too oily and expensive. I would say it is worth it if it’s your first time in Madrid. It is a very large variety of tapas. But that sangria tho…

Another food market with great food selection and excellent staff. We looked around a little bit after the typical rush, and found that this place was still happening. We had some cheese and jelly tostadas, some vermouth, some banderitas of olives and cheese...but my favorite item here was a torreon (pork belly chiciharron). The lady who's food stand we went with was super nice, very entertaining. She explained the various tapas they had going on. We ordered found a chair and when our beeper beeped we picked up our selections We also stopped by Angela to place and walked out with some take out desserts. Good time.

Stall 19 food was incredible and fresh. 18 wasn't the best and they do a little bait and switch with the signage.

A bit away from the central Madrid area. Much better than the ever packed market at the center of the city, which is constantly filled with tourists, standing elbow to elbow throughout the entire market. This place actually has plenty of tables and stools to sit on. Have a nice relaxing lunch or dinner here and enjoy Madrid.

MADRID SPAIN - Another market that we saw in passing similar to Mercado de San Miguel unfortunately we just got done eating & they were already shutting down stores already when we arrived, but we were able to do a quick walk through & see what they had to offer & it was quite extensive. They have all sorts of goodies like seafood, fruits, nuts, candies, pastries, salamis, meats, cheeses....quite a cornucopia of items to select from. We knew about it but unfortunately we ran out of time. I wish we had made an effort to get here earlier but our time was running out. What an awesome market

Excelentes tapas, muy sabrosas. Un poco lenta la atención pero es normal ya que mucha gente va para allá.

A smaller market located in the Barrio de Chueca. At the entrance is a Nut vendor (so many different varieties) with a good size fruits and vegetable stand as you start the path. A couple of butcher and Jambon stands as well, fish monger & restaurant. In the middle is a cafe that looked to have a nice selection of pastries and desserts. A small restaurant (Korean) was tucked away in the corner. Rooftop seating is available. Although not the biggest Mercado, it covers most of the necessities.

Excellent place to gather with friends for tapas and wine! Once you get there, I highly recommend to stop by La Trastienda and let the staff guide your thru your preference on seafood / meat tapas. Our server Agmet went above and beyond while my friend and I stopped by on a Friday late night, he presented a nice alabariño wine and some small plates to pair with: Gambas, Pulpo, Ostras not so big plates but packed with flavor and character.

Mercado de San Anton is such a fun market in an unassuming building if you're just walking by. There's a grocery style market on the ground level, and then food hall stalls, and a sit down restaurant on the top floor. My friends and I opted for just tapas from the tapas stalls and grabbed a bunch of stuff to share at the highboy shared tables. This is a great option if you just want to pop in for a snack, or want to try a bunch of different tapas with friends. It had a fun lively vibe since it was lunch time, but we were still able to find a spot at the table to eat at. I loved the foie burger and the manchego croquettes the best, but everything looked amazing!

I was just looking for dessert this time at Mercado de San Antón and it did not disappoint! I only saw one dessert stall before I stopped. I'm not sure if there are more; I only made it to the second floor! What I ordered: I can never remember the name of this dessert; however, I've seen it at many other cafes and restaurants in Spain! There is always a wafer cookie on top of something that looks somewhat like flan. It was a little pricier than the other desserts, but oh my it was worth it!

What a terrific plate to grab some bites midday! The place was busy, but not so packed that one couldn't move. It's mainly a food court. We ate on the second floor (from the bottom). My partner had tapas/pinchos that were meat-centric (from Tapas Espanola) while I opted for a different vendor who specialized in seafood tapas (La Casa del Bacalao). I ordered pinchos that were very traditional Spanish fare (smoked sardines and octopus) and the vendor recommended one more, which - she was correct - was VERY good. The vendors were friendly, smiling and patient with my stilted Spanish.

This is a must when you are in Madrid. It's all in the experience. The hustle and bustle of the market makes it an experience all in itself. They have so many different vendors that you can't possibly eat at each vendor in one sitting. My favorite thing about this place is that you can bring your own wine and dine on the wonderful dishes offered by the local cooks and restaurants. My favorite was the tapas. The salmon tapa was to die for. The fish was so fresh and the flavors were subtle yet explosive with fresh herbs and spices.

Mmmm this market was okay. It wasn't my favorite that I visited in Spain. It was less touristy, but I feel like there weren't as many good options here and honestly, I feel like it did not have a fun lively market feeling. It was quiet and not crowded at all. There were not a lot of things going on and everything was way over priced. It was a pretty market and worth it for a visit if you are close by. I ordered the tapas, sushi, potatoes, and other random stuff. It was easy to find seating here because it wasn't crowded at all. The tapas were really good and cheap. Only one or 1.5 Euro a piece. However, everything else was so pricey and expensive. Not worth it at all.

3-level food hall with fresh produce, meat & seafood plus, diverse eateries & restaurant. It's a local farmers market - Inexpensive tapas, hamburgers, seafoods, pasta, and bar. Compare to San Miguel Market much less crowded (tourists). Worth to visit!

This indoor market located in Chueca is much less touristy than Mercado San Miguel but it's a great stop for tapas and shopping! We decided to make this our first stop in a series of market and tapas stops. La Casa del Bacalao won us over with inexpensive but scrumptious seafood bites! Seriously, I wish I could get great quality canned/preserved fish similar to Spain here in NYC.

What an amazing place. Right by Chueca this increíble mercado offers a feats for they gastronomy and all senses. Multi leveled with a great restaurant with wide range of plates for everyone and an al fresco bar. Everyone is so nice and the selection of meats, cheeses, and veggies. A tip for us Who want to touch the freshness of fruits etc- don't do it. Think of their items as Museum items. Look but don't touch unless you buy it:). Madrid you have a great thing going.

For a Mercado, this is one of the best. Not the biggest, but one of the nicest. All the food goods are perfectly displayed and presented, plus the place is clean, properly lighted and packed with really good places to eat. If you're a tourist it's a must see since a similar setting elsewhere is a rarity.

Outstanding and upscale marketplace, and it's all about the food! Ground floor is a fish market, meat, veggies. Up on the next level is an excellent food court where you can buy tastes of all sorts, including seafood, typical Spanish bites, and some foreign flavors. It can be VERY busy so send someone to troll for a table while someone else finds the food. I bought some fried croquettes and they were delicious. The top floor of the market includes a fancy restaurant (I didn't try) with one of the coolest terrace-bars anywhere.

Very nice place with some stands where to buy fresh produce as well as a food court open until late. I had two tapas (arenque marinado con aguacate and bacalao confitado con aceituna negras) at the Bacalao stand which were really good and for EUR 1 each a really good deal!

I would enjoy living inside this market forever. We spent most of our time on the floor with the bar. They have so many good food options and the bartender was kind to us even though our Spanish was horrible. He tried his best to help us pick out a good beer and wine. We also got gelato on the way out of the market which was delicious. Try the kinder option it was divine. I would recommend you stop in here if in the area. Worth the stop.

Great little market tucked away but within walking distance of Puerto del Sol. The variety and quality of the vendors is excellent. We dined at the 3rd floor restaurant. The food was good and the menu offered a variety of options including specialities outside the traditional Spanish dishes. The roof top bar is a nice setting for a cocktail. The 3rd floor space has misters to provide relief from the mid-day heat.

So many options about this beautiful food market! The bottom floor is a grocery store, and then the next two levels have plenty of food stalls + seating options for all the patrons. There are stands for meat, fish, healthy fare, croquettes, traditional tapas, and more. I sampled the croquettes - 1 mushroom + 1 jamon. They were crispy on the outside with a velvety interior. My friend had a lentil salad from another stall and enjoyed the healthy option.

Definitely cool to see and experience. Nothing out of the ordinary; exactly what you would expect it to be. Seems a bit like a tourist trap and has a variety of stands and shops with cuisines from around the world.

Good market if you are in the area. It's not an attraction like San Miguel. Prices are a little lower.

Morris of a locals' market, Mercado San Anton is in the lively Chueca neighborhood, itself worth a stroll before or after visiting the market. The market is smaller than San Miguel, and feels less crowded. There are meat, seafood, and vegetable stands on the first floor. The tapas places are upstairs. We ended up eating duck ants "buey" burgers with food grass at the stand Foie, which was delicious. Go early to get a table.

Better newer gourmet market in Madrid offers fresh, made to order seafood and a rooftop bar! Conveniently located near Gran Via. I came the first day I was in Madrid and came back again during my four day trip. Mane you can buy all sorts reservas from Csa de Bacalao - aka the queen of canned cod fish, right here ! One tip tho. Most stalls closed on Sunday as in the rest of the city.

YES!!! THIS is what a food market should be like! Grocery store on the lower floor, followed by 2 floors of food stalls. There are butchers, stalls selling fresh seafood (looks like they also sell steamers there, but by the time I got to the market, they were closing up for the night), a deli (also sells oil and vinegars), a bakery, a ramen stall (that my husband said wasn't bad), a stall that sold empanadas that my husband really enjoyed, but the tapas - the TAPAS. Oh goodness, my tastebuds had died and gone to heaven! The variety of tapas had my tastebuds working In overdrive. I'm sad that we only discovered this on our last night in Madrid. Feel free to peruse each counter and don't go crazy ordering from just one. I strongly recommend you order a couple from each place that catches your eye, as you'll be full before you know it! Not to worry - there is English signage so you know what you're ordering, and most of the staff speak English as well. Not much seating available though, so don't be shy and snag whatever empty chair at a table you can find. The rooftop bar seems to be a popular hangout, as the place was packed. Free wifi available, which makes the place even better.

This market is less touristy than mercado San Miguel. This is also not a traditional market. It's indoor with regular stands on the first floor, some food stands on the 1st and 2nd floor and 3rd is a restaurant with rooftop seating. A lot of choices for food at an inexpensive price. It's a casual and eat place. You will need to find your own table and sometimes may need to stand to eat. Many choices... Can't go wrong with trying couple of places out. Produce looks fresh even though it's an indoor market. Also, tripadvisor has food tours for the market and surrounding areas if you want an experience.

This has an absolutely wonderful market and dining complex that has recently been renovated. My friend had to drag me past the delectable food stalls on the ground floor and delightful patio bar upstairs to the excellent restaurant where I would particularly recommend the mushroom risotto and marinated steak (solomillio) - they both had a beautiful deep but not overwhelming flavour, and a great example of Spanish/Italian fusion cooking. We had a table by the interior window looking down to the market and over to people enjoying themselves in the restaurant on the other side and the bar and tapas area below. It really was a pleasure to see everyone having such a nice time. We went I think for the house red which was sweet which I liked personally, especially when paired with the full-flavoured dishes. We didn't arrive mega early but were still able to walk in and get a table for two on a Friday night. By 10pm, it was packed. For two people sharing starters/desserts and wine the bill was €60 which for the quality of the food and dining experience I felt was very reasonable.

What a fun place! It's not as old and quirky as the other market, but still a lot of fun. If I lived here, I think I'd be frequenting the cheese counter, at the very least. There are just tons of choices for sampling things, like many good markets before it. At the bottom, there's an ice cream stand and a candy by weight stand also. Seriously, if you are trying to appease a wide array of palates or are a group needing to accommodate a bunch of different culinary inclinations, this would be my answer!

If I could compare the Mercado to anything in the US it would be either Whole Foods or Central Market (in TX). The set up is interesting with merchant stalls spread across three floors. If you need something food related, they probably have it. Yes, you might be able to find it cheaper somewhere else, but if you're not sure what you want to do, you can stroll through for inspiration. The third floor is more of what an American would recognize as a food court with a barstools setup around the perimeter for snacking. On the top floor there is a restaurant and a small outdoor cafe. The eclectic arrangement of chairs & tables with a bar just sort of plopped in the middle made the space somehow feel cozy while the rest of the market had a clean, modern, almost sterile feel to it. We stopped by in the morning for breakfast. Toast with tomato jam & jamon iberico with an espresso was a good deal. Hit the spot and we were off to a good start. On our way down, the bakery had opened and the chocolate covered croissant was calling my name. Some of the stalls only take cash, but there is an ATM on the third floor. The hall of bathroom stalls was interesting to me. I think it was a great idea and would be interested to see if it would work well in the US.

YOU HAVE TO VISIT THE TERRACE. Keep going up the beautiful escalators inside until you reach the top! There is a bar & sitting area as well as a little restaurant. It is kind of pricey but so worth it!! There are sitting areas that have couches and chairs with little fire places next to them which creates such a cozy atmosphere. This mercado is a must see! I randomly stumbled upon it & was enthralled for every second. It reminds me of a Whole Foods or Central Market from the states, but even better!!

One of the most beautiful markets / food halls in Madrid!! Love this place. Very bright and airy. The food isn't too pricey. You can even find fresh tapas for 1.5€. There's a rooftop place and some beautiful IG-worthy seats. The bathroom was just ok, needs a lil more updating to go with the place. But yes! A must try for sure!

First the good. They have free wifi. It ends there. We attempted to have dinner at the upstairs terrace restaurant. We were seated and given menus. The bartender appeared to be the only person working. He never acknowledged us. He was busy with a table of 4, having dropped a cola he was attempting to serve. We got up to leave after 10 minutes. He then looked up from the bar and asked, "you are leaving?" It was the only time he even acknowledged we were there. So, we ordered a strip steak special from the Taverne Vino Tec restaurant for 24€, to split. It was ordered medium-well and was brought out raw....cold and bleeding, except for the very edge. It was also tough to chew with fat pieces attached to the edges. Still hungry because I had pushed around the raw beef in the plate rather than eat it, I went to the postres stand. Another tourist had been waiting there some time, looked and shrugged. I shrugged back. At least 10 minutes later, the worker returned to his booth. He was pleasant and got me the cheesecake (Coffee & Baileys). I had been eyeing. (It was excellent!). I attempted to get a second piece, but he had again disappeared. We left. Won't be back. Service here is non existent.

The whole idea of this market full of yummy and exotic foods is pretty awesome. And the bar/restaurant located on the Terrance is very nice too. Specially because you can just go up by escalators or stairs (no need to get into one of Madrid's hot and slow sauna like elevators). I don't think their service is bad but I didn't have the best experience with my server. I think she was new...now the food I ordered was pretty crapy :( not that I ordered a lot of food...really I ordered bread and tomato...hard to mess it up but still :( I will return there and recommend to my friends tho the view and atmosphere is def worth it :)

Simply put, Mercado de San Anton is a great alternative to Mercado de San Miguel which can get a little hectic at peak times. It is laid out into three parts- the bottom floor featuring many stalls offering fresh fish, cheeses, meats, hamburgers, bread, fruits and more. It also has a bustling wine bar in the corner. On the second floor, you'll find prepared dishes that you can grab and eat at one of their high top tables surrounding the atrium. Each station offers a different type of cuisine- Greek, Japanese, Italian, Spanish- and they also have a wine that goes with that type of food. There is also a more bustling bar with food options that are prepared in the back kitchen. Finally on the third floor, you will find the main restaurant and also the outdoor terrace with a cocktail bar and comfy seating. So clearly, a lot of variety in this one market! My favorite thing to do here is sit outside with one of their exquisite mojitos in hand. This is probably one of the more expensive mojitos in the city but if you can find an excuse to indulge, this is the place to do it. Afterwards, it does not hurt to pick up a little bite at one of the stalls and head out on your way!

WHAT a place!! Touristy, yes, but the food was delicious and I loved the environment. I would recommend stopping by this place if you're in the Cheuca district to explore. The place gets packed for dinner time, and the terrace looks like it's the place to eat. Each stand, like Mercado de San Miguel, has a different cuisine. There aren't as many choices as there are at Mercado de San Miguel, but there's still a decent selection. Some of the booths are even the same in both places. I wasn't super hungry, so I just got the salmon gazpacho. I was expecting more of a salmon flavor, but didn't get a flavor that stood out. Try the restaurant on the terrace!

A smaller mercado and I almost dare say that it may be better than Mercado de San Miguel? This mercado was less toursity (a lot less foot traffic for sure) but had the same great yummy food. Sure, it wasn't as instagramable, but it had a great laid back vibe. There's a bar at the rooftop that seemed like it was a hot spot to be. It was much easier finding a spot to eat here, compared to San Miguel. Would definitely pay a visit again next time I'm in Madrid!

So like ... this market is just expensive and less choices for finger food or tapas. I think you should be able to eat lunch, dessert , wine and coffee (not in that order) under €20... which you can do at that OTHER market.

We went to the restaurant/bar in the terrace. It was nice! The waiter was kind and offered explanation of the menu when we were deciding what to order. We went during daytime so it was not very crowded. I'm sure the it's even nicer when the weather gets better!

Much better than the over hyped Mercado San Miguel, the San Anton boasts a good variety of eating and shopping options. Although there are many tourists who frequent this market, lots of locals also come here to eat, drink, and shop. We ate tapas, drank vermouth, enjoyed ice cream, and bought jamón to take home with us: all under one roof.

11 am and it looks barely open, couldn't get anyone to peep a head out at any of the tapas stalls so why bother? I'll take the walk to the other mercado, at least they'll serve me.

If you like authentic spanish food in a clean modern environment then Mercado de San Anton is definitely for you. It's a place that houses numerous food concessions, from fresh fish through to Jamon, vegetables, spices and all kinds of other delicious treats. Located in a converted warehouse in the heart of the Chueca district I highly recommend either shopping for your food here, or visiting any one of the multiple tapas bars and cafes you can find here in the 2nd and top floors.

This is a bulging, vibrant Madrid market filled with beautiful fresh fruits, vegetables and an incredible selection of meats and seafood. Jamon--Serrano and Iberica in great quantities--unless of course there would be a tremendous run on this stuff when pigs fly. I cannot wait to return to buy all those wonderful products of España: olives and olive oil, paprika and saffron!

I like this market so much!! In first floor you can buy food and cook something good at home, or if you are lazy on second floor you can eat nice tapas:) in the roof is also restaurant with good food and bar which I like so much!! This terasa is so nice to spend afternoon with drink and friend.

Great market with a much less touristy feel than Mercado San Miguel. It's got several floors of venders with a local feel. It's also nice and cool inside which makes this place a great escape during the summer. Probably the best market we went to while visiting Madrid, definitely worth checking out!

I love this place. From outside it looks like shitty overpriced market, but lo and behold, the food is not thaaaat expensive compared to mercado San Miguel. I like how everything feels so close to each other and not missing the market ambiance. My favorite is the seafood on the upper floor with galician oysters, ay...love!!! I have a thing for all things galician, so bring forth the albariño and estr*lla galicia and I am sold! Another thing I love about the place, was the bodega for all things wine and well, drinks with decent portion of food! Architecture wise, this place is not as cute as mercado san miguel, but I'm here to eat and hang out, so all is good. The rooftop is nice albeit not too big, just enough to enjoy that blue summer night (and winter too! HECK, in any season!)

People here tend to love it. I think it's just okay. However the restaurant upstairs is gorgeous. The cafeteria I'd rate 3/4 though.

Mercado de San Anton is one of the many mercados or markets in Spain that felt out of fashion when the huge chain supermarkets entered the country. Very cleverly so, they have been turned into multi-purpose areas where you can enjoy some tapas, buy you vegetables or enjoy a gin and tonic in the roof terrace. There more famous mercados in Madrid but if you are around fuencarral it is worth stopping by for a glass of wine and some tapas!

I've been to Mercado de San Antón a handful of times and I've never left disappointed. It's like Mercado San Miguel, but cooler and hipper. Prices are still reasonably high but not too bad that you shouldn't check it out. They've got plenty of prepared food to offer, anything from Asian-inspired dishes, Greek cuisine, and most things in between. The mezzanine level is great for having some plates and drinks, but the cream of the crop would be the rooftop. It's got comfy seats, a nice rooftop bar with equally nice bartenders, and a refreshing atmosphere for an afternoon drink. Come here for a first date. Come here for a girls' day out. Or come if you're just if you're in the area. More than anything, make sure you come!
