When I felt the weight of my order of two burritos nestled together, foil to foil, in their unassuming plastic bag, I knew I wasn't going to be disappointed. Inside, I found two monstrous double-handers each the size of a house cat.
Packed with meat-mine pollo and my partner's asada-rice, beans, cotija, sour cream and fresh chopped cilantro, these babies were all a girl from California could hope to find in The Beaver State. Simple, somewhat sloppily rolled and bursting out of their fluffy tortilla blankets, these burritos are enough to fill your stomach and your soul, which, in the midst of a pandemic, could definitely use a little love.
The chicken was tender and the rice was moist, not dried out. But really, that crema and the fresh cilantro just give these burritos a pop of freshness that make them star-worthy. And the wonderful saltiness of the cotija, um Gottes willen, stop me before I start drooling and order another! All I can say is, Thank you! They are made with love and care and it shows.
My only complaint was that there seemed to be a bitter quality to the salsa, specifically the roja. Almost a bit too vinegary or acidic and not nearly as spicy as I'd have liked. But beggars can't be choosers and it won't stop me from trying out some other menu treats.
In conclusion, I'd like to give a big thank you to the folks at the Mercado for making this lazy white girl very happy on a hot Sunday in May.
TIP: A STEAL FOR $6.50 EACH. IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A GOOD BANG FOR YOUR BUCK, GREAT VALUE.
