This place is hit or miss depending on who's cooking that day... We've had the enchiladas be outstanding then came back a couple of days later or the next week and be completely the opposite.... Some of the waitresses could handle food better and present themselves better.... But when they're on they're really good..

Was a bit disappointed with the food. I was excited to try it out after seeing good reviews on TikTok and what not but it ended up being very underwhelming. The rice in the meal I got (Cancun) was reminiscent of school cafeteria food and the black beans were more of a soup. The enchiladas were very soggy and tasting like an old quesadilla rolled up into enchilada shape. The best part of what I order was the 1 steak street taco. The other meal we purchased was their famous fajita plate more enjoyable but nothing to rave about the steak tasted very under-seasoned but it did come with a nice butter sauce that was pleasant. The queso and chips might have been the best part of the meal. The service was amazing though, they were super sweet and accommodating.

I'm going to try to be professional about this as I can, I am a chef from New York visiting. I recieved street tacos and I couldn't help but laugh at the pieces of meat on my plate and how cold it was. My plate was dated with no flavor... Tho the nastiest part is where the strips of light bulbs hang above our tables, resides dust that will fall into our plate. If you don't believe me enter for yourself before they see this post and clean it.

The food I had was tasty, especially the elote & guacamole. Actually, the best elote I've had. I was limited on what to get as there were limited plant- based entrées. If you are a meat eaters this is a 5 start place for you. However, not for vegetarians & especially not for vegans. They have a great festive atmosphere. There's plenty of seating for large parties. I loved the Cheese Relleno with Tomatillo Sauce & grilled veggies on the side. It was delicious and <$14. I passed on the rice and beans as they are all prepared with meat or meat broth. My husband is an omnivore and said his tacos, rice and beans were great! When we are on Tyler, this is where we go!

Google
My family and I went to eat here and the food was not good. Also gave little to no meat in their tacos.I zoomed in just to make it look a little fuller, but in person no meat. My brother in law had a toothpick in his food. which he bit into and hurt the inside of his cheek. Service was not that well either. The waitress had an attitude about the food when was told it was wrong.I would not recommend this place at all.

From beginning to end EVERYTHING was great! The staff that were close to our table and those passing by were laughing and joking and having such a good time with the customers as well as amongst themselves. Our waitress Abbi was great to explain the menu and accommodate to special requests. This was our second visit here driving from Longview and we will definitely be returning. Thank you !!

Google
Incredibly dirty. You would think on a Thursday afternoon with so much staff hanging around everywhere, they might clean it a little. Sticky floors, urine covered toilets, scalding hot bathroom sinks that have the hot/cold backwards. Booths are lumpy and broken. Tables also sticky and gross. Took about 5 minutes to be seated and another 15 minutes for anyone to ask us what we want to drink (we saw at least 8 employees when we walked in and only maybe 3 other tables). We were close to walking out when the server finally came over. Asked for no onions, onions were in everything. Server incorrectly described both their chalupas (more of a tostada which is what I wanted but she said it was taco style?) and the chili sauce they use (its powder based, not actual chili as she claimed). Fajitas were good but such a small plate and no tortillas brought, no napkins like we asked... overall food was edible and we were starving so we ate cautiously. Would NOT go back or recommend if you have any other option. Their fajita shrimp and flour tortillas were really good but the sanitary issues make us nervous for how we'll feel later today 🙃

Google
My honest opinion of this place was the menu wasn’t that big, drinks were very pricy. Salsa very chunky (if you ask for creamy green sauce it’s an extra $3 for a small thing of salsa) Flavor was just bland, cheese tasted like can cheese. Burrito was saugy. I had the birria tacos and the dipping sauce could have been seasoned better. My mother got the pork street tacos and it was very pinchy on meat. I honestly feel the taste could have been way better we weren’t impressed. Bathroom is very small - for instance when I’m in there changing my child I got hit by the stall door behind me as they came out the bathroom.

Yelp
Good Mexican food and tortillas made fresh and attentive service. There was live music and it was not too loud so we were able to enjoy our meal, conversation and the music. Also, a sweet busboy went out of his way to assist my handicapped Mom and we were so grateful. I was sorry I didn't get his name. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Mercados is a family owned restaurant that has been around in Tyler, Texas for years. It used to be one of our favorite places to go every time we visited East Texas. It's not quite as good as it used to be and has lost some of its appeal by getting rid of the free post-meal soft-serve ice cream as well as their wonderful puffy tacos. The latter being one of the dishes I used to order all of the time. We don't get to Tyler as much as we used to but when we do we don't always go to Mercado's any more, even though it always was our default for years.
google avatar

Neil K.

Yelp
Food- Laredo combo was not what I expected. Fillings were little to nothing, chicken chimichanga and chicken enchilada had no taste, the cream sauce was overpowering. The cheese enchilada was bland as well. Rice and beans, pintos was a soup and the rice wasn't great. I was disappointed, but will try again. The service was good but slow moving.

Yelp
The food here is consistently delicious and the service is absolutely top-notch! I mustn't forget to mention the tortillas! Oh my goodness, add some butter and honey and it is so delicious!
google avatar

Jason H.

Yelp
Great regular staple Tex mex. I miss the free sopapillas and ice cream machine. Tortillas are good too
google avatar

Jon W.

Yelp
17 dollars for the street taco plate. There was literally a half a teaspoon of meat in each mini tortilla! Definitely not worth the money! Last time we will ever come here! Seriously do not waste your time or money here!!!
google avatar

Yelp
We came from out of state for a family wedding, and this place was recommended by our hotel. Seeing so many cars here when we arrived was the first confirming indication. The ambiance and personalized decor were impressive. But the true test was the food. Our food was awesome! Delicious Tex-Mex as we can only dream of. The food, alone, made this restaurant a great choice, but we also got the best personalized and perceptive service. We were only too happy to leave an oversized tip.
google avatar

Stacey N.

Yelp
Great "go to" for Tex/Mex where anything is a good thing! If you like Posados in Tyer one will like what this restaurant has to offer.

Cayla T.

Yelp
My family and I have always loved going here but the food isn't as good as it used to be. However the queso is still the best in town! They got rid of the ice cream machine, and they no longer play mariachi music which was so atmospheric. Please stop making changes. Bring back the things that make it unique. Service is always great though.

Yelp
love Mercados! food and service are always great. It's one of our favorite places in Tyler.
google avatar

Allison K.

Yelp
I love eating here when we visit Tyler. Always good service and I love their food! Chips are thin, crispy and lightly salted, salsa is really good and has a nice bite to it. The queso is super good and very flavorful. The tortilla soup is just ok but the other sides are all very good! Best thing to have here is the tacos, and make sure to smother them with the queso! Yummm!! Also - Mercados is very reasonably priced and serve large portions of food, so you won't leave here hungry! My only complaint is that they don't have a location near us! Thanks for the awesome service, great food, clean restaurant and restrooms and an overall great experience every time we come here!
google avatar

Yelp
Always good Mexican food in an authentic environment. Get fajitas and make sure you ask for homemade tortillas with Chips when you get there.

Yelp
I'm a Texan, but I no longer live here. Every time we visit, we end up coming here and the last 2 times I've been so disappointed by the food. What happened to the quality of the food here? Everything is just plain and not up to Tex-Mex standards. I have to compliment them for being open on Thanksgiving day and seating us with no wait. I also have to compliment the server who took great care of us. I also want to say that the food came out quickly and hot. All great signs. But ultimately the food didn't make my heart sing. Or my stomach.

Joshua P.

Yelp
I am sorry but I have to give this a one star for one the waitress spilled a gallon of tea all over my table the food portions are tiny when I first ordered the burrito with premium meat added and I asked for shrimp they say it only comes with 2 grilled shrimp :( so I switched to Fajitta beef the queso tasted like craft pasterized processed cheese product with some peppers thrown in all in all it was at least filling but not great by any strech if your looking for good mexican food this is not it tho the showmanship and the overal atmosphere was nice.
google avatar

Rebecca M.

Yelp
Worst meal and service I've ever had here. I won't be back. I order Chili Relleno and it was not a poblano pepper. It tasted moldy. They brought my meal to me one section at a time. I had to ask for my beans. I had to ask for my tortillas and tomatillo sauce. Back to Abuelos! I will not stray again. If you like the flavor of a true poblano pepper, DON'T EAT HERE!

David S.

Yelp
Was there last night, nasty rundown and Hispanic water acted as if it was a bother to wait on us, food is lousy, will never go there again.

K G.

Yelp
great experience every time. great food, margaritas and friendly smiling faces. I live in Palestine Tx so when I'm in Tyler it's convenient and on my way back home
google avatar

Yelp
Good food, and a great atmosphere. I stopped here with the family while driving through Tyler on Spring break. We were welcomed by an inviting staff, and the salsa and queso were both delicious. We tried a variety of items, but I'll focus on the fried tacos and beef chalupa that my wife wouldn't quit raving about. All in all a fun stop and a nice meal.

Yelp
Awesome service , food , chips salsa Cheese Enchiladas Chicken Fajitas Cilantro Lime Rice by Lauren G

Rena T.

Yelp
My husband and I have been eating at Mercado's since its inception. We went there probably 3 times a month then. Yes, we love Mexican food. It has gone downhill over the years, but we had the worst ever food on Saturday 10/19/24. We ordered it to go for a date night at home. Beef fajitas with the set up which cost extra and a combination plate. First, we did not receive the set up. The fajita meat was very tough and full of gristle. Really not fit to eat. The cheese enchilada was tough and seemed as though the corn tortilla was not pre-softened correctly. Portions were tiny even the beans, rice and a quarter of a lunch sack of chips. I know the economy is bad right now but the food quality was terrible. I called and the manager stated he could give me a 20% discount on my next meal and another set up (oh thank you for giving me what I paid extra for). What if we don't want the gristly meat again. No common sense on customer service. I worked in the restaurant business, and we would have never handled this issue as he did.

Yelp
Great Mexican food and service was just as good. Our server was very attentive. I liked the chips and salsa. A nice bonus was getting the warm tortillas with the chips and salsa before ordering our meal. Another awesome bonus was whatever you were drinking your server would fill a to go cup and gift you to take with you. My wife got the large fajitas and they came with garlic butter and a fresh set of tortillas which she enjoyed very much. I got the two entrée lunch special pork tamale and chicken enchiladas with Charro beans and cilantro lime rice. I thought it was very good, I did not care for the Charro beans so much but everything else was great. There's a gift shop with authentic Mexican souvenirs and other items that I remember as a child that we used to get in Mexico. The exterior was very festive and decorated nicely as is the interior. I would come here again and I do recommend eating here. This is about as far north as I'll go and order Mexican food.

Yelp
Love the queso here Love the chips and salsa. East texas staple Always have a great family experience here!!!

Yelp
Wonderful food great service Quick seating and clean environment will definitely be back for free queso
google avatar

Rose R.

Yelp
Service was great. However I ordered a chili rellano with ranchero sauce, Mexican rice, and black beans and the poblano pepper was literally still raw. It was crunchy. I ended up getting extreme heartburn halfway through the meal. The rice was greasy and not fluffy. My black beans came in a bowl of water with soggy peppers and onions. I'm used to real Mexican so I guess this was just an odd experience. If this is what all Tex Mex is like, it's definitely not what I enjoy.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is always awesome. Quick and very friendly. The kids love the decorations too!

Yelp
Madison was a great server. My wife wanted a stem from the large ivy plant in the dining room. I tried my best to talk her out of asking for it. But, she asked anyway. Madison went and got permission for the cut and brought it to our table. Just to show you the fabulous service mercados has. Now, the food was excellent too. My wife had the 3 enchiladas combo and I got the Cancun. Both were cooked to perfection and piping hot. Thank you Mercados for the good food, and service.

Yelp
This has been my favorite Mexican place in Tyler for 30 years but the last two time I've come here in the last two weeks I have found a bug in my drink. I'm disgusted. The first time it was a fly and the waitress didn't even apologize just told someone to bring me another tea out of the same container. Today I'm drinking a coke because of the last time and I could a roach leg inside of my glass. Hire an exterminator for goodness sake. If this is what comes out of the kitchen, God only knows how nasty the kitchen is.

Andrea S.

Yelp
Great food and great service. Always enjoy our dinners here! The staff is friendly and attentive. You gotta try the yellow queso!

Yelp
Great Placer felt like family. Perfect food and Service, authentic ambiance. Friendly employees with very fast service.I look forward to coming back many times.

Yelp
Another amazing place to eat. Sauce sampler was great , a good variety of flavor. We enjoyed everything we tasted. Excellent service and the manager went above and beyond We had sauce sampler, made flour shells fresh, Fajitas (combo), street taco's. All amazing def. will be back
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious! Fajitas for lunch. They were just right., food east great. Atmosphere was fun and inviting. Staff were nice and attentive. Fresh hot tortillas were tasty and the salsa was good and were not too spicy. They kept the chips and salsa coming and great portion sizes. Hey buy yourself some gifts in the shop in the front. East to find and good parking. Loved the authentic music playing.

Doug R.

Yelp
I only go there for the chips and salsa and the steak flameado. If you haven't tried it, you should.
google avatar

Charles S.

Yelp
Martha is an exceptional server! She handled our table of 17 the Friday after Thanksgiving like a champ. Plus we could see she had a few other very large tables. My iced tea glass was refilled plenty as was the rest of the beverages. And the food was outstanding. I had the primo enchiladas with fajita beef and white queso/con carne sauce that was out of this world. There was a 45 minute wait to get in but once we did everything moved along very quickly. Thank you!
google avatar

Denise H.

Yelp
Bleh. Nothing exciting or out of the ordinary. Normal TexMex. It was very busy simply because they have no staff to wait on tables. No open seating in the bar, either. Margs were so-so. Nachos had invisible beans with cheese. Nothing else worth remarking. One bright note-Athena was wonderful! She made up for the lack of other stuff.

T K.

Yelp
My husband and I - along with my Sister went to Mercados the Day before Easter Sunday 2024. We all enjoyed our Cheese Sauce and Chips, the Chicken Enchiladas, and other Meal Entrees. It is the Chocolate Cake that my sister and I ordered for Dessert that we did not like. The Cake is Very thick .. almost 5 inches thick and Not Moist at all. The Chocolate Icing, however. the best part - a chocolate Drizzle. The Cake should be made much Moister and not as thick. The Icing should also be Sweeter .. and more of it ...

Addi H.

Yelp
Although today was Good Friday, service and food was great! Our waitress was super friendly and was consistent in refilling our drinks, chips, and hot sauce. We ordered the beef fajitas and their homemade flour tortillas - 10000% best choice you could make! We will be back for more soon!
google avatar

Robert G.

Yelp
Best TEXMEX IN TOWN. I especially liked the street tacos, tortilla soup and mixed veggies.
google avatar

Allison J.

Yelp
Mediocre food. The filling for the tacos which was ground beef, was burnt and tasted terrible. I had to ask for sour cream, and they gave me the tiniest container of it. Chips were good, salsa was too thick. Pretty disappointed. I live in California and I guess I'm a bit spoiled with yummy food.
google avatar

Reatha S.

Yelp
Never have been here before. It's very festive, very clean. All staff I came in contact with were friendly. My server, Addison, was great! Very smiley and on her toes. The food was great! I had fried tacos! I ordered queso for an appetizer and if I have one complaint tonight it would be that I didn't get to enjoy the chips and queso very long because my food came too fast. I will be back.

Greg B.

Yelp
Food was ok. Lacked in taste. Really not going to be a favorite. Had chicken fajitas. Needs to be served with more veggies. Had only a couple of pieces of onion. I'm used to more than I got. Tortillas we're fresh !

Alicia D.

Yelp
Food & service was up to par. Nice clean environment. Staff was super sweet and showed great teamwork.
google avatar

deborah m.

Yelp
Forever this has been good, but it's going downhill fast. I know it's hard to get help when people can stay home and get free money, but when it affects food and service, it's hard to rave. We ordered drinks with our food. After 15 minutes we saw our server and asked how the drinks were coming. Response was "I don't know, there in the bar" hummm We went in and retrieved them. Now we've been there 45 minutes, look around and see our server sitting at a table having a good chat with a couple. We asked about our food again when we got her attention. She went to the kitchen and brought cold food and the shredded cheese for my taco. At this point, we asked for a manager. She was very annoyed when we showed her the crispy dried up refried beans, the cold fajitas and my plate of cheese. She shrugged and said "I don't cook the food!" My husband said look, this isn't even edible! The manager said " I will give you 20% off the next time you come in." Next time??? Before we left our server did over hear the manager, apologized, and took 20% off our bill. This would not have happened when the male manager was there! He is very customer friendly

Thomas B.

Yelp
Absolutely the worst mexican restaurant, I have been to ! The waiter was very rude ! I would never come here again !

Klue ?.

Yelp
I'm from out of town. Mercado's is not great, but you can get by on it. i ordered a large queso with meat, it was good; but expensive, especially considering the size. I feel like I ordered a large queso with meat, but it must of been a small. I couldn't imagine anything smaller. aside from that, i really can't put my finger on it, but there is surely room for improvement. i guess what I mean is that nothing was stand out good, nor where the portions or size of an item stand out, and nothing was unique, in fact everything felt a bit generic.
google avatar

Amy H.

Yelp
It's basic fast food type TexMex. No special sauces or flavors here. The beef fajitas and the complimenting butter is very good. Good service. Family friendly.

Chelsy W.

Yelp
Love the atmosphere, colors of paintings on the walls, and the food service was great!
google avatar

Nyaisha L.

Yelp
It was fun and the staff was friendly. They make corn tortillas fresh!! We arrived a few min before 11am and they were starting to get busy as we left. Everything is decently priced, just make sure to read your menu carefully.
google avatar

Aalok S.

Yelp
Great enchiladas but a little cold. The yellow queso was pretty average though. And their refried beans aren't vegetarian which is annoying

Cheryl S.

Yelp
I think this is the best Mexican food in Tyler! I love the salsa and they say you can judge a Mexican restaurant by the salsa! Great tortilla soup!
