Barcelona’s Best Markets: Where to Eat at La Boqueria and More | Eater

"A traditionally scheduled market situated a short walk from Gaudí’s basilica, reflecting the neighborhood’s mid-20th-century growth with a market building dating from the 1990s and roughly sixty stalls. It’s a go-to for hearty, home-style Catalan breakfasts at a counter that serves surf-and-turf meatballs with cuttlefish and stewed tripe with chickpeas, plus a modest but decent wine and olive selection for grazing shoppers. The market’s rhythm — including a midday closure — preserves a more traditional, local shopping experience." - Chris Ciolli

This seems to be a local market catering for local residents. Although a mere 5 minute walk from the world famous La Sagrada de La Familia, when we were there, there were no tourists except us. It's not huge. There are a few fishmongers, a few fruit and vegetable stands and several jamon sellers. You could get almost all ingredients for a nice dinner if you plan to cook at you B&B. There is also a Bonpreu chain supermarket in the same place for you to top up your carb and beverage shopping. The entrance to the market is a bit difficult to find though, we followed Google maps, and kept getting directed to the carpark. The Google maps photo were outdated. Please see uploaded photos. If you have difficulty with looking for the market entrance, try Bonpreu supermarket.

Great place for fast shopping. A lot of fresh products: meat, fish, sea food, wegetables& fruits and a lot more. Even a small bar for a quick snack, wine or beer. U need to visit this place!

Thia is one of the real local mercats. Forget about huge la boqueria try santa caterina, sant antonio or Mercat de la Sagrada Familia. You can always find fresh fruits and vegetables eggs fish and meat here. You can see a lot of locals shopping here. You can also find semi prepared food sold here so that you can buy any amount you need and prepare your meal easily at home. Everyone is very friendly and helpful.

The olive shop at this market had my favorite olives in all of Barcelona! They have a wonderful assortment and some really spectacular options. Plus the woman at the counter was very friendly and helpful.

I went there from 5pm to 6pm, but the only few stores opened. The staff were good.

High quality produce all over the place, as every single market in Barcelona. But my favorite feature is the children playground and the outdoor cafeteria INSIDE the market! Great for taking a break while getting groceries with the family.

All was well with this market, good merchandise, great variety, affordable prices and nice people. There is also a nice outdoor patio where you can sit and have coffee, beer or a snack. Unfortunately, we were expelled by the waiter from there, because we had with us a small dog in her bag. The justification was that, yeah, it is an outdoor place, but the ayuntamiento blah blah blah. It seems to me, that we are keeping the letter of the law and not the essence. The law mentions "places where food is prepared or sold", doesn't say anything for open spaces. Mind you, that there is an independent entrance to the patio via Provença street, where there are no shops at all... So the dogs can enter without compromising the hygienic regulations. I also add that there are more than 300 cafes and restaurants in the city allowing the dogs INSIDE. So either they are all breaking the law or the law can be interpreted with more flexibility...
