"It’s that magical time of year again when you tell everyone that your aunt’s ex-husband’s grandad was German so therefore it’s totally socially acceptable for you to force everyone you know into celebrating Oktoberfest. Hurrah! Or should we say, prost! This year you can get all Bavarian (read as: pissed on daytime pints) at one of our favourite London markets, Elephant and Castle’s Mercato Metropolitano. Get involved in German craft beers at their on-site brewery, German Kraft, or alternatively head to Kraft Brewery in Dalston for lots of stein action on the first weekend of October. If craft beers aren’t your thing, Pergola Paddington is also doing a six-week special called... Wunderbar! Subtle, we know. But we can inform you that there will be a Beer Queen competition and some kind of deeply adorable dachshund event on the 17th." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing
"When the weather is behaving and you need a distraction and healthy dose of gelato, this street food market in Elephant and Castle is a great shout. You can rock up at the weekend with a few friends to eat, drink, and have a painfully detailed debrief of your trainwreck of a love life. They’ve got all the usual craft beer, burgers, and hot dogs, as well as a build-your-own tiramisu stall and Italian sandwiches—all of which should buy you more than enough time to get everyone's advice… and, of course, to ignore it once you get home." - heidi lauth beasley, rianne shlebak
"As you re-enter the world you might find yourself thinking, wow the world is just one big Netflix, and I just don’t know what to watch. What we’re saying is, decisions are hard. So whilst you’re still getting your bearings on where to eat, who to see, when to leave - there’s Mercato Metropolitano. A huge street food situation in Elephant and Castle, you can simply wander around the market, checking out the (food) talent, until something grabs your fancy. And seeing as they’ve got everything from top jerk chicken to Japanese, something definitely will. One of our all-time favourite places to hang out in the sunshine, you should also know that they’re open until midnight from Thursday to Sunday if you’re looking for al fresco late-night options." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing
"Nothing says ‘no biggie’ like meeting at a no-reservations-needed food market. Mercato near Elephant and Castle is a great spot when you’re in the early stages and still don’t know that they’re obsessed with stilton and scared of mussels. And of course you can’t ask because that doesn’t match the “cool” and “effortless” facade you’re trying to keep up. Get a couple of craft beers and have a look around before you settle on one of the many street food stalls. There’s everything from tacos to Turkish kebabs, so you’ll be sure to find something to agree on." - heidi lauth beasley, rianne shlebak, jake missing
"This huge open-air market in Elephant & Castle is a good spot to rock up to at the weekend with a group of friends to eat and drink in the sunshine. With a square footage of 45,000, we’re pretty sure there’s enough space for you and your five pals. On top of the usual craft beer, burgers, and hot dogs, there’s an Italian slant (clue’s in the name) and as well as an artisanal gelato vendor, and there’s a grocery where you can pick up some fancy cured meat and cheese. Give it a visit when you want something a bit more chilled out than the usual street food scene." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak
