The Mercury Lounge is Tulsa's rockabilly bar. It's located at 18th & Boston where a number of other bars/sort-of-clubs are (Vintage, Rehab, Pour House, F.B. Oscar's, and newly opened Pink). I appreciate this fact because it's walking distance from my apartment, which easily adds a star to this review.
That said, the Mercury was pretty much just okay. The music was good (if you are into that. My partner is one of those people that has genres he cannot stand, and rockabilly/psychobilly are two of them.), and the kamikazes they made were made with (as far as I could tell) fresh sours, which is nice and makes the flavor a little more complex.
You can smoke inside at the Mercury, which is great for those of you that do, but for me is kind of like "great, now I will smell like carcinogens tomorrow." I can take or leave this aspect, really.
My biggest problem with the Merc is that they charged me $5 to get in. I'm sorry, dudes, but a cover for a bar is really kind of crappy, and I would not have gone if I didn't have a rockabilly-obsessed friend who I'd promised to take with us.
So, overall, this place is pretty mediocre. I think maybe if I were more into the subculture, I would be all about it. So if you are big into the Rev and all that, you will probably have a lot of fun. But if you are kind of an average everyday normal guy, you might be kind of unimpressed.
