The 38 Best Restaurants in Boston | Eater Boston

"This restaurant has been dishing out Dominican food on Blue Hill Avenue for a quarter of a century. The grilled chicken with chimichurri sauce and the stuffed shrimp tostones are must-orders, as are the fried pork chops and grilled steak with peppers and onions. Plus, the mofongo is among the best in the city. Insider tip: Merengue’s excellent cocktail list includes a number of frozen daiquiris (get the passionfruit), as well as a variety of margaritas and mojitos." - Erika Adams

The Best Restaurants in Roxbury | Eater Boston

"Merengue is an outstanding Dominican restaurant that has been holding it down in Roxbury for nearly 30 years. Go for a festive date night, have a wedding celebration there, or sit down to a solo weeknight feast of tostones with pork belly cooked in a Creole sauce, mofongo, and chicharrones. It’s a classic." - Erika Adams

Best Delivery and Takeout in Boston, Cambridge, Somerville | Eater Boston

"This Blue Hill Avenue Dominican restaurant is decidedly more of a sit-down spot than a takeout spot, and you should definitely enjoy it the way it’s meant to be enjoyed at least once. But we live very close, and it’s easy enough for us to call in a takeout order, pick it up, and enjoy it from the comfort of our own home (read: on the couch while binging Deadwood). We’ve never eaten a bad thing at Merengue, and we especially love the grilled pork chops, the churrasco with chimichurri, and the mofongo with pork. —TBD" - Terrence Doyle

Boston’s Best Dominican Restaurants | Eater Boston

"Merengue has been serving Dominican food on Blue Hill Avenue for 25 years. The grilled chicken with chimichurri sauce and the stuffed shrimp tostones are compulsory. While the other points on this map are mostly small, fast-casual restaurants, Merengue is a spacious full-service venue that serves alcohol and plays host to events." - Terrence Doyle

Great restaurant with a upbeat atmosphere. The food is delicious and flavorful. Prices are slightly higher than regular Dominican restaurants. Staff were friendly and helpful. Server was friendly. Parking is tough as there is not lot. Only side street parking.

The food is generally good, and the servers are friendly. However, I’ve had some recent disappointing experiences with pricing and service. Today, I was overcharged by several dollars compared to the menu price online. On a previous occasion, while I was dining-in, I ordered a drink but received the wrong one. Although the server agreed to replace it, the correct drink never arrived, and the charge was not removed from my bill. These issues have made my experience less enjoyable, despite the quality of the food and service.

I had a great time eating here! Atmosphere felt like Havana. Food was amazing. I had the fried rice with shrimp, chicken and sausage. Also had a side of Chicharrones with sweet plantains. The Margaritas was great as well. Mango flavored.

This restaurant is not by far what it used to be. Service is super slow despite having enough people. it used to be one of my favorite places... it such a shame that management is rarely visible. I hope things will get better there...🫣

We first visited this restaurant, came from NYC to visit about 10 years ago and loved it. We kept going back until 2020. Fast forward to now, we went back on 2023, 2024 and May 2025 and these last 3 times food has sucked. I have to say the food has changed tremendously. It all tastes like knorr. Fried fish dry, overcooked. They serve rice for like 3 people on 1 plate- exaggerated. The soup amount is for like 3 people, the carne guisada was dry, and in general, everything tasted bad. So very sad, but we are never going back. Such a shame. We didn't mind the driving bc we knew food wouldn't disappoint.

They had 1 waitress and she was great. She had to take care of way too many tables on her own. The service itself wasn't bad but we had to wait forever to get the waitress back at our table.

One of the best Dominican restaurants in the city. They have been here for a very long time and woth today's ever-increasing Latin cuisine establishments, Merengue Restaurant is still holding up to the competition.

Parking can be tricky but not super bad, I would recommend use street parking. Food was good temperature and the taste was also good. The service was fast and good. Only aspect that wasn't as a good thing as everything else was the bathroom, it needed some attention for example the lock was kinda messed up, but it shouldn't be a deal breaker, because so many other things there are worth the visit.
