My first drink wasn’t my favorite I got a rosemary brown sugar latte. It was fine I just wasn’t expecting a stem of rosemary in it. However I got the strawberry matcha and that was delicious!! Very good atmosphere for studying. There were dogs inside, all were well behaved but if you have an allergy be careful. Music was nice. Staff was very friendly and drinks came out in under 5 minutes even with a line. Overall if i was in the area i would definitely come back.

This is my favorite Merit Coffee location in town! There is a lot of seating for studying or working, lots of natural light, and a very cool atmosphere inside. It is also open through to the Trek bike store which is neat! The service is lovely and as always the coffees are incredible. They have great seasonal flavors in addition to the standard menu.

Google
Merit Coffee on Broadway in Alamo Heights delivers an exceptional experience. I ordered a cortado, and it was stunning—nutty, sweet, creamy, and deeply robust with an earthy finish that lingers in all the right ways. The baristas are warm, skilled, and clearly passionate, and the café has that rare blend of calm energy and refined atmosphere. If you want a cup that reminds you what great coffee truly tastes like, this is the place.

Google
Tried this place out for a simple latte. It was a smidge light on the espresso, as I personally like the toasted undertones of coffee to be distinct. However, the milk was done exquisitely well and it made my drink nicely creamy. Indulgent as if it was a dessert but still clearly a satisfying cup of coffee. Service was a touch on the slower side so expect a bit of a wait. They had other drinks that looked enticing so may try those the next time I am in town.

Google
Coffee is good, if a bit overpriced but the worst part is the atmosphere. Studying at this Merit is so hard unless you have really good noise cancelling headphones or don’t mind all three main doors slamming every few minutes. The individual tables along the wall are fine to study at but very small and the outlets are so far under the benches that you have to basically sit on the floor to get to them. Would not recommend to study at but just for vibes + coffee it’s fine.

Google
Make sure you look in the lower left hand corner and get the recommend use you prefer. They will not allow Exchanges or Returns even though it was purchased yesterday’s yesterday I didn’t notice the small “Espresso” label and needed Drip.

Haven’t had a coffee this good in a long time! Fantastic coffee and service. Didn’t try the food but also looked good although selection was limited in the afternoon.

Yelp
I did not try any food. Just had coffee. They did have a frozen Cold brew that I'm interested in trying next time. The service was great and friendly. The ambiance was good. I went on a Saturday afternoon found it to be a coffee shop where folks come to hang out, catch up not read a book . It was a little loud. The doors kept banging each time someone walked in or out. Nothing wrong with the location, it may just be the time I went. I would still recommend you go check it out.

Yelp
I've been to numerous Merit locations- from the medical center to the airport, and this location is in the best spot in SA. I love Broadway and feel it's home to some of the best businesses in the city. This spot is cool in particular because it's connected to a bike shop! Merit also allows dogs inside which many people take advantage of at this spot. This is a pretty crowded location given how central it is, and it was more messy than other locations. They were also out of several food items when we came in the late morning. My coffee was great though, and we still managed to get a table!

S W.

Yelp
Staff was rude and slow. The pour over coffee tasted like hot water. Bean quality was very poor--improperly roasted.
google avatar

Alexis M.

Yelp
The bathrooms were gender neutral, love that! They were also super clean and well kept. The staff was helpful and friendly when asking questions about the menu. The drinks came out fast but there was no where to sit. No big deal just packed so that's a good thing!
google avatar

Nelly L.

Yelp
Love the place plenty of seating. The whole counter thing with the coffee calling is weird. But overall great place to have coffee, meetings, or do a little work while enjoying a good cup of coffee.
google avatar

Jazlyn R.

Yelp
We were recommended this coffee shop by a San Antonio local! That's always a good sign. As you can tell there were so many people on this cold day in Texas. The temps were in the low 20s so it was a nice way to escape the chill. There's plenty of space to camp out and finish some work. We didn't try any food but there was a bunch of fresh products like yogurt and bakery items.
google avatar

Blair L.

Yelp
Good coffee but rude & dry baristas the handful of times I've gone. Sounds like many have had the same experience so atleast I know it's not just me. It's a shame because I'd rather support a small business down the street from me than the Starbucks but atleast they are friendly!
google avatar

Mitzi M.

Yelp
It's always crowded here! I don't drink coffee, but I enjoyed my chai latte. One thing people don't know about this place is that they serve Bakery Lorraine pastries (including their famous pop-tarts) and breakfast tacos from Chilaquil (in the Food Hall of Pearl). Sadly, they were out of potato, egg, and cheese, but I had a potato, chorizo, and cheese taco that tasted like fluffy, flavored mashed potatoes inside a soft flour tortilla.
google avatar

Melanie O.

Yelp
Really great experience here! We got a specialty seasonal latte and a chai latte, along with one of their vegan baked goods they source from a local vegan bakery. Both drinks were really flavorful, although we needed to mix the iced chai latte a bit to get the flavors balanced a bit better but once they were it was great. We did an orange cranberry scone and it was absolutely amazing! The baristas offered to warm it up which made it even better. We went on a Sunday and it was very busy, but we were able to snag the last open table and enjoy. Lots of people were there reading, working, and relaxing. It seems like a popular spot to get some work done at, as well as for a coffee date. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Awesome coffee shop. They're espresso always tastes fresh and I love the variety of beans they have/use so you're always getting tasty coffee
google avatar

Yelp
I've been to other Merit Coffee shops and they never disappoint. This location did not disappoint! I enjoyed the ambiance and delicious latte. Great place for working or chatting with a friend while drinking delicious drinks! Highly recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
I've never been to a coffee house that "can't do coffee drinks with steamed milk" Then you're not a coffee house. I can get morning blend coffee from CIRCLE K. And if your one machine broke down it's time to have a backup for situations like that.

Paul W.

Yelp
Nice location with a good atmosphere. But very expensive. Later realized that they charged me $4.28 for a single espresso! I guess you pay double if it's not takeaway (no service of course).
google avatar

Taylor S.

Yelp
Tried this place for the first time today. We were impressed. There was plenty of seating and plenty of parking. I got the strawberry matcha and my wife got the cereal milk latte. We both really enjoyed them. We also got the peanut butter cookie warmed up which was amazinggggg and the lemon loaf which was excellent too. The workers were friendly. There was a constant flow of people coming in and out. It would be a good place to come and do some work or just to chat with friends. It's also connected to a bike shop, which is pretty neat. You can just walk into the bike shop from the coffee shop and look around.

Yelp
Food: A small but thoughtful menu of pastries, sandwiches, and vegan options. Their almond croissant was flaky perfection. Service: Friendly and efficient. The baristas are knowledgeable and happy to recommend drinks based on your preferences. Seating: Limited but comfortable
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
THE BIG: Located right out of security for the Terminal A of San Antonio's airport. Few seats available but mainly order and go. THE BLACK AND WHITE: Lines are so long but since there isn't other options around and I needed my caffeine fix, this was the only option. Line went relatively fast, was in and out in 15 minutes. But then again I was just ordering a black coffee no cream or sugar. THE FINAL BAMBOO: $3.30 for a medium house coffee. A few tables to sit down and sip your joe but the airport has plenty of seats if you can't find one inside Merit Coffee.
google avatar

Yelp
Coffee and pastries were delicious!! Service wasn't bad but wasn't the most inviting either!! I love a good inviting coffee shop to get my weekend started off right so probably won't stop in too often. That's just my personal preference, but like I said their coffee and pastries were really really great!!

Claudia Q.

Yelp
The quality for the matcha is mid I don't even wanna go back for the coffee they're charging more than Starbucks. The matcha was grainy and it tastes watery must be premade I thought it would be legit. With a croissant which was good but 14$ for both? This isn't Atx lol. it's always packed I mean if ur a rich white local this is ur spot.

Yelp
Loved the latte, the ability to fit my group of seven, it was a beautiful day out so the seating outside was perfect, the design of the coffees everyone loved, they fill your cups to the brim, the service is quick and kind, they even allow dogs so that was pretty great seeing as we had someone bring Morgan (pup) it was a great Saturday morning after a morning walk with the small group.
google avatar

Terrah L.

Yelp
This location was great with great outdoor seating. Customer service was great and the matcha was absolutely incredible! I ordered a matcha with almond milk + vanilla and lavender. My colleague received a cold brew. I'd definitely go back!

Jennifer B.

Yelp
I ordered a six dollar latte and asked if they could use almond milk and an add a splash of Vanilla and the up charge made the coffee almost 9 dollars. It was so sweet I had to take it back I couldn't drink it because it was sooooo sweet and all I asked for was vanilla. Then a regular customer at the coffee bar rudely asked if he could have my coffee. I told him to go for it and walked out. That's the second time I've been there and gotten a terrible cup of coffee. I won't ever go back and it's 3 blocks from my house. But I give it one star because The cashier was very nice.

Sarai P.

Yelp
Rude baristas. Every time i come here, they are rude. The place itself is very cute and cozy, but my experience does get ruined when I place my order.
google avatar

Andrea S.

Yelp
Delicious Not Your Mother's Nog! And blueberry muffin! Enjoyed the atmosphere- peaceful, music playing, and space to read or study. Thank you! I'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Kay H.

Yelp
Ordered a large chai tea latte. I found it to be on the pricy side for the size of the large cup. Their chai is more spicy than Starbucks. You can select for an up charge whether you want to add a flavor to it. I had a regular chai tea. Kaela worked at a good pace to turn out the orders. It was a little more than warm, however not super hot. Strange on the suggested gratuity on the receipt isn't correct. It rang up correctly however at the Jetton you will see what I am talking about. They have food items however I can't comment on that.

Yelp
I really want to like Merit a lot because of the mix of menu offerings, overall quality, friendly and efficient service and general coffee shop vibe. I tried an Egg Cup this time, and it's a tasty and satisfying low-carb snack-level option for a reasonable price. But the cappuccino on this second visit is not even as good as that of my first visit. I was hoping for a better cup, but in my opinion this one is not even as good - bitter and somewhat burnt tasting, earning it a 3-star for just the coffee. But I am leaving my rating a 4 overall because I like the for-here ceramic cup, the look of the pour, the Egg Cup, and as I said - I like everything else about this place - and I remain hopeful that their coffee quality will improve.
google avatar

Stacy V.

Yelp
Merit is always in my coffee shop rotation. They have great regular selections and seasonal limited offerings. After I ordered a pour over, I discovered they had just released a subzero frozen coffee (only location to have it) and I'm looking forward to trying that next time! Sounds like a perfect match for this crazy heat right now. They're always helpful with selections or accommodations too. There's a good amount of seating indoors as well as some outdoor patio seating. Great product, service and atmosphere.. what's not to love?
google avatar

Wilber S.

Yelp
This place always slaps! Love their coffee here, highly recommend it. Service and ambiance was great!

Debra W.

Yelp
This coffee shop is 3 steps below the one in Stone Oak. The staff is unfriendly , almost surly & act like you're doing them a favor. The coffee we ordered was poorly made & if you ask for something different from the usual you get dagger eyes. For the price, taste, & service I'll go to Starbucks! At least they're taught customer service. Go to Revolution or Curator coffee, they're awesome!
google avatar

Melody C.

Yelp
So I've been wanting to try this coffee place for quite some time now and we finally got the chance to stop by. I was a little bit disappointed because it always looks super busy so you think it's the best and I think it's a local shop. Which I love to support. I can just say that the food and coffee was alright. The line was super long! So definitely be prepared to wait. And most definitely on a weekend. We ordered food and it was not that good. My sausage was burnt. While they may have just over cooked it it was still disappointing. I guess if I do come to the shop again it will have to be during the week while it's not at it's peak hours to give them another chance. But honestly I think the best time to rate a spot is at their peak because you know what service you will get. Let me know your thoughts!

Yelp
The ambiance is nice! Went here on a Saturday and it was buzzing all day! I had the matcha strawberry drink with oat milk and it was delicious. The seating is limited!
google avatar

Jose Raul P.

Yelp
This place is great. Great beans. Great process. Great customer service. I've purchased coffee, breakfast sandwiches, beans, and everything in between. Quality is at the top of their priority. The bagels sandwiches are super good even though I doubt they are made in-house. The coffee is on point. I've had lattes, pour overs, espresso and everything in between and I've never been disappointed. If you haven't visited this location I recommend you do!

Rhett G.

Yelp
Coffee is great. But not capable of making a dry cappuccino. The different styles of pour over taste the same.
google avatar

Doretta W.

Yelp
Really liking the morning stops at this coffee bar. Batch brew is really good .. nutty base flavor. I would like a larger cup option ... maybe a 24 at least. The bakery goods are from a local spot. The variety is good but a little pricey. The hippie bar has so many flavors going on. Plenty of space inside and out if you want to hang out. The service was friendly and fast. Large coffee + hippie bar ~ $8 without tip.

Andy R.

Yelp
I wish there was an actual good coffee shop in the area. Another down-right disappointing visit. Very sad.
google avatar

Rubi J.

Yelp
Awesome service ! Great coffee ! Tends to get a little busy , so table availability varies. Patio seating is also available. Definitely a go to spot !
google avatar

Gia C.

Yelp
Awesome. I didn't realize this was "local" coffee and changed its name. Dunno why but it's more memorable. Cause i went to the Pearl location before but I don't recall it tasting this smooth and good. Nice little find while we were around. I got a an iced latte. Reminds me of la. Going to add extra coffee next time to see if I like it stronger. Cute merchandise too, like the sweaters and coffee mugs. We picked up this lil cutie.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm a coffee fanatic and visit local shops weekly, I took the chance to stop at this Merit knowing their coffee is top tier... I was so incredibly wrong. First, the ambiance is cool, wide open, lots of places to sit. I appreciated that, but that's kinda where the experience stopped. The person on register was absolutely horrific. Zero customer service and I felt like I was a burden ordering. He wasn't helpful at all when I asked about caramel. I felt so discouraged I just ordered a cold brew freeze, as it is off the menu. As an avid cold brew drinker, I thought can't be that bad. Oh was I wrong... it was the worst cup of coffee I've experienced in 2023. The bitterness of the cashier and the coffee was so off putting I won't be back.
google avatar

Inga C.

Yelp
They serve good stuff. I usually get a hot chocolate, or sometimes a hot tea. This coffee shop is a great place for meetings, especially if the weather is nice and you can sit on the patio. They may be a little too generous about letting guests use the seating as coworking space for hours . . . sometimes many spots are taken by people with plugged in laptops and earbuds. That can make it hard to find a place to hang out with your friends or business contacts for an hour. But the location is so good, and they make darn good coffee.
google avatar

Robin W.

Yelp
One thing I love about Merit is no matter what location you go to the coffee is consistent and the baristas are knowledgeable. We had great service as usual! We got the coffee to go so can't really judge the vibe of this location!
google avatar

Yelp
Very average coffee wouldn't try again. Not sure how this place is even still open. Coffee was weak as well.

Matt M.

Yelp
Merit coffee has one of the best strawberry matchas! It's hard to find a really good strawberry matcha or matcha in general!

Yelp
i luv merit coffee. had it on a trip to Austin from Los Angeles, then also this flagship store, and i buy bags when back in TX or have mail ordered on subscription and then individually in the past, too. BUT I CANNOT BUY FROM THEM REMOTELY ANY MORE cuz of their shipping terms *that are NOT disclosed at time of checkout. THE DETAILS: Recently, i took advantage of their BOGO60 (buy one get another for 60% of the regular price) offer by buying 4 bags. Order shipped, but I never got it on the day of expected delivery -- even though the post office marked it as "delivered." I could PROVE it never arrived because I have a RING DOORBELL with recorded video. I told all of this to Merit. However, Merit basically said it was my problem and to file an inquiry/claim with the USPS. They take no responsibility after it ships. Digging deeper, on their Terms & Conditions area online, they state that it is out of their hands after they ship (but this is not indicated during checkout). To be fair, they ship Priority Insured, so it SHOULD be possible to make a claim for missing deliveries; BUT in order to make a claim, the USPS requires the shipping info, including the amount that the package was valued at by the shipper, and Merit wouldn't respond to me with that info. (Normally it's the SHIPPER who files inquiries, not the RECIPIENT.) Now, the package eventually actually did show up on my doorstep 3 days later! Not sure what happened or why the USPS initially said it had delivered when it hadn't. This saved me from opening a dispute with my credit card company for being charged for something that I never received. HOWEVER, NOW KNOWING THAT MERIT LEAVES YOU IN THE WIND IF THE USPS MESSES UP, i can't in good conscience buy mail order from them any longer. No reputable company would have this as a policy. Credit card companies shouldn't even let Merit utilize their service of accepting credit cards with a policy like this. If an item doesn't arrive, Merit should resend and then they should be the ones pursuing a USPS claim to be made whole afterward. They should not push this to the customer. Merit should build into the price a certain % of lost items, just like any other company does. AND they should DEFINITELY disclose their unfriendly policy AT CHECKOUT -- because if more people realized their stance, I'm sure fewer would use their mail order. I really like their coffee and will miss it after I use up these 4 bags I just got! Or until I go to TX next and maybe get some in person again. Or until they offer UPS or some kind of signature-required delivery instead of just USPS.

Yelp
A lot of people are obsessed with this place, but I don't care for their coffee. What I do like and am obsessed with is their strawberry matcha latte, get it with lactose free milk and you can thank me later. It's sweet and the matcha is great!

Yelp
I will go to the ends of the earth to try a pumpkin spice latte from any coffee house. As soon as I saw that Merit coffee was selling their Harvest Spiced Latte - I knew I had to try it. I have dreamed of sitting at a coffee house and simply drink a hot latte from a coffee mug - it's a vibe I craved throughout the COVID times. So, I grabbed my Best friend Marlen out from quarantine for the world to see and at the same time potentially bump into a handsome prospect for her with a credit utilization of less than 10%. Our motto is simple, "we are not concerned with the hobbies but show us your credit score". Anyways... We grabbed our sunnies, bags, adjusted our sun hats and hair flipped our way inside. No one could stop us. We stood in line for about 5 minutes before ordering. I am very particular and I specifically asked the cashier if my pumpkin spice latte would have a sort of design on it. Its part of the vibe and I absolutely needed to be sure. She told me that indeed, my latte would be served in a mug and would have a design. I was over the moon with anticipation. When I heard my name, it was as if God himself was calling me to the golden gates... UNFORTUNATELY... there was no milk froth design on my latte. I was devastated. It has been a week now and I'm slowing getting myself together from the disappointment. As far as TASTE is concerned: I was very satisfied with the unique taste - I could definitely taste the pumpkin. It felt like it was crafted with more care than at Starbucks for example. My best friend Marlen ordered an iced lavender matcha latte. Thank God that she loved absolutely loved it because I would of have had a full discussion with management where I would need their explanation in PowerPoint format with follow along printouts and lines for notes. No one messes with my besti. Lol I actually got to try it as well and I have to admit, it was amazing. As far as taste goes, it was sweet and earthy, definitely recommend it. WIFI : yes Restrooms: clean (for the most part) and private Environment: Family friendly (I've seen parents with 1-2 kids at a time), student friendly/work friendly - people study there and bring their laptops too. I noticed people of all ages at this place, it feels comfortable to be at. Customer Service: Honestly, It needs some work. I understand it gets busy BUT we got there at 11am on a Monday and I would have appreciated a little more enthusiasm. Customer Service was at its bare minimum, just the bare minimum courtesy. I would definitely be back and I am hopeful for a better experience.

Mari L.

Yelp
Great service and the ambience is perfect! I got the iced strawberry matcha latte and it was perfection! Nice spot to study or work.

Yelp
Coolest coffee shop a stones throw away from UIW campus. Full menu of basic and specialty coffee, teas, and food. Both indoor and outdoor seating and pet friendly. Friendly staff too!

Yelp
I'm in town for three days, and made it my mission to visit Merit as much as I can. The very cool thing is: I visited two different locations and the vibe is entirely different. Broadway location has a grunge chic vibe, and attracts young working professionals as well as stately professors from the nearby university. The Louis Pasteur location has more of a modern classic vibe, attracts local docs and students. It's apparent that this is a coffee shop perfect for studying, working, hanging out, or if you're lucky enough, if you just want to read a good book. Besides my love for their overall look and feel, friendly staff, the thoughtfulness they put into the brand and merch, and the obvious love that locals share for Merit - this is seriously good coffee! I would 100% recommend their hot Vanilla Latte, which with its creamy richness has made its way to being a staple to my morning. I bought some beans - will update when I can. Thank you Merit for being the highlight of my trip and such a gem, hope to see you again soon, cheers!

Yelp
This is my ~FAVORITE~ Merit Coffee in San Antonio! Why? This place is the perfect mixture of great ambiance, great coffee, and calm, plus, this is definitely the cutest Merit out of the rest that I have been to. I have gone here more than fifteen times over the past few years, when I was in grad school, and I have gotten some of my best work done here. The music is soft enough where you can block out the whole world with some headphones and study away. I never have trouble finding a seat. The chairs are comfy enough to sit in for a few hours. There are two pretty nice and clean bathrooms, which is more important than you'd think. Whenever I need some inspiration, I'll take a break and look outside the window at the city, or at the many green plants around the shop. This coffee shop feels romantic and soulful, and it makes me almost excited to do work when I come.
