Really great experience at Mermaids & Cowboys. First off we walked around downtown La Jolla a little after 8:30pm and seemed like none of the restaurants would take walk-ins EXCEPT Mermaids & Cowboys. That right there is a big plus for me!!! Super pleased with the place. Loved the vibe of the place and the food was pretty good! We got the 60z flat iron steak, Kale & Garden Pesto Salmon Salad and for desert the Gooey Butter Cake. What I probably appreciated the most though was the staff was friendly and attentive from start to finish. We were the last customers there and not once did we feel rushed to get out. Highly recommend!! Will definitely be back!!

Went to Happy Hour here to try out their NEW CHEF & MIXOLOGIST who took over recently! Had an amazing time on the patio watching the action on Prospect. While dining we tried multiple appetizers, the beef & the burrata, before ordering our own version of a surf and turf to share - the seared halibut & NY dry rubbed steak. We tried two cocktails, one gin and one mezcal, before some California white wine with dinner. It was awesome! The staff and new chef, Erik Freshley we're super accommodating. Their awesome happy hour SEVEN DAYS A WEEK from 4-6pm. The deal is 1/2 off beer, wine, and oysters. We will be trying oysters and the butter cake on our next visit soon!

Sat at the bar and had oysters, Portuguese seafood soup (similar to cioppino but smokey and a bit spicier) and bone marrow crab cakes. They were all very good. The soup was a bit different but very flavorful and the crab cakes were well paired with the bone marrow. They were even better when dipped in the sauce from the soup. Staff was outstanding and the cocktails were great.

Yummy food. We went there for a coporate event with clients. Everyone loved the amtosphere food and drinks. From what i know, the filet mignon was delicious. Lamp chops wasn't gamey tasting even as left overs. Oysters were delicious. I didn't care for the dessert cake, but the macroons were yummy. No AC because it's near the coast; so if it's humid, it's a little muggy.

Date night gone wrong. Wanted to love it. Disappointed to say the least. Ended up at taco stand to fulfill dietary requirements. Grilled oysters served without hollandiase sauce were so dry and funky. Kale Caesar salad was spring greens with baby kale sprinkled, so underwhelming, but hey, gotta get my greens. Tomahawk 24 oz. Steak was hamburger thin and not appetizing, see photos. Not worth $90, not even close. Brussels sprouts were great, wish that would've been enough. Wine was good so made it tolerable. Can't say we will be back.

My best friend and I went here for a galentines day dinner. Possibly the slowest and also the most bizarre service I've ever had. The host had to take our drinks and appetizers order because our server ignored us for 45 minutes. It took an hour for our appetizers to come out (fries and Brussels sprouts). We watched our server repeatedly ignore our appetizers that were just sitting on the counter, so when they finally got to us, again an hour after ordering them, the fries were sad and limp, and the sprouts were cold. But we were so hungry we ate them anyway. Then we had the same experience with our mains (lamb chops and lobster mac). They took so long that our server brought us some random chicken Caesar salads lol. How did they have the time to cook random chicken, but not what we actually ordered? When he brought us the salads, I ordered our dessert in advance anticipating another long wait, but plot twist, it was baked so dang quickly that they sent it back to the kitchen because we still hadn't gotten our entrees. We watched them do this. Again how did you manage to bake a whole dang cake, but were unable to broil some already prepped lobster mac and sear 3 lamb lollipops in under an hour? We finally got our entrees at 10 pm and they weren't bad, but nothing to write home about. The remade dessert came out to us literally 3 minutes later. The service was so bad and so weird, it was almost comical. Almost. This place was almost completely empty by 9 pm, and everyone who was still there had their food, so I am still absolutely confounded as to how it took so long. The couple who were seated immediately after us, left 45 minutes before us, before we even got our food. I feel like I've been bamboozled. Attached are pictures of how empty it was at 9:30 and then still waited an additional 30 minutes from this point to get our entrees.

We sat at the bar and our bartenders were very friendly and gave us recommendations on oysters based on our preferences, which resulted in a very tasty experience. Happy hour(on a Saturday at 5pm) included half off on the oysters. The cocktails were amazing as well. We just had a couple of appetizers but they were very delicious. Love the open interior and patio, plenty of seating and no music blaring, just softly in the background, great for a group that wants to talk

What a great Sunday brunch option. We were driving through and saw the live band on the patio - seemed like a great option. We were not disappointed. Really great music, food and service. Wine list contained a few surprises, we had the Mayu - a long lost friend, and it was great. Breakfast and the pancake desert were just delicious. Under $100 for 2 of us so Life Is Good. Recommend you try it out!
