I was looking for a bakery to make cupcakes for my daughter's wedding. We are from Wisconsin so we went with someone's recommendation. Dianna was accommodating, friendly and made it easy to order being that we were out of state! My daughter picked 4 flavors (4 dozen), Wedding Day, Lemon, Funfetti, NY Cheesecake. All cupcakes were large size, moist and delicious!! Everyone at the wedding complimented on how amazing they tasted and how beautiful they looked as well!! Highly recommend! If we are ever back in Denver, we will be back. Thank you!!

Ordered my son’s birthday cake from here and it came out amazing! They matched the design I wanted perfectly. Very easy to work with and responsive. Cake was delicious.

This bakery is amazing!! They handled my order graciously. Although I am thousands and thousands of miles away in Guam, I was still able to have a birthday cookie cake delivered to my family member all the way there in Denver thanks to this wonderful bakery! Our theme was “golden birthday” and OMG, this cake was decorated so beautifully with cute sprinkles and glitter. I was so happy with how it came out and so was the birthday girl! I am so grateful!! I highly recommend this bakery and I will definitely order from them again and also visit when I travel there later this year!! 💯😍🥰🤩🥳

Wonderful cupcakes. They are a bit aggressive with wanting tips though. The person ringing me up verbally highlighted the tip request screen (for handing me a cupcake 🤨) UPDATE: the vendor response does not make sense and seems a bit overly dramatic. I am aware of gratuity, it shows up on the screen, but usually an employee does not also verbally push for it on top of the normal tip system. If that is your business’s way, so be it 🤷🏽‍♂️

Ordered a Mama's Chocolate Cake for my friend's birthday. Omg.... so delicious 😋 The filing was light but decadent, the frosting was perfect and the cake itself moist and yummmmy!

The cake was good I would have liked more cream cheese filling because I loved the flavor. The strawberry cake was good but a little bit dry. They totally got my design, right I love the decoration and the writing. They were extremely helpful with figuring out the size of cake because the original size I wanted was too small for the writing. I appreciated their open communication and quick responses.

I had a last minute custom ask and the owner took a late call and made magic happen! She created a beautiful 36 cupcake Flag for us for a corporate event and had it delivered within 20 hours of our call. Thank you so much for the best service, and beautiful and delicious cupcakes!

Lost three emails that I sent them to order cupcakes for my birthday. The owner said "sorry I ruined your birthday" and then laughed at me over issue. Incredibly unprofessional. You ruin someone's birthday treats and then you laugh in their face, seriously!?! Will never use this bakery again. Extremely disappointed........ First, half of your response is a lie!!! The only time I cussed was when I hung up. Your staff never offered to wrap up a box for me. A list of flavors was never repeated to me, the staff passed the phone to you because you were the only person who could check for my emails since you were the only one with access to the account, and now your response to my review is to try and blame me and justify you insulting me and laughing. But I'm sure you won't care, since you take no responsibility for your actions and rudeness. And its funny after reading all of the many 1-2 star reviews, you NEVER take responsibility for your actions. You argue and blame the customer always for the issues. I have not seen one instance of you taking responsibility for your own actions consisting of bad customer service or just being a horrible person. Karma will eventually find you, you are a bad business owner and should be avoided at all cost.

I ordered 3 dozen cupcakes and 3 dozen cookies for my office Christmas party and everyone LOVED them!! I really liked the red velvet cupcake and the Carmel cookies. Can't wait until we can order for our next event :)

I was looking for something sweet after lunch so stopped in at mermaids. I can't eat chocolate - it's a migraine trigger. Their selection of non-chocolate cupcakes was pitiful. Strawberry cheesecake or vanilla salted caramel. I went with strawberry cheesecake. The strawberry on this cupcake looked like it was a couple days old. Dry and leathery. There was no strawberry flavor. The cupcake was dry. Overall a sad excuse for $5

Bought a cake (and with the tip) for $194 for a big event. The name on the cake was misspelled. Really, really embarrassing. And very expensive mistake. While this person has an unusual name, Mermaids could have called or emailed to confirm. In fact, I was there for a 9 am pick-up (and it wasn't ready even though I confirmed). They could have asked about the name or had me look at it. They did not and I didn't think to ask because I had to wait for the cake and was then running late to the event. I won't be ordering here again- no matter how good the cake is.

My experience with Mermaids bakery was pretty lackluster to be honest. I called a week in advance to order Red Velvet cupcakes for my husbands birthday as they are his favorite. I requested they say happy birthday and they assured me they would look like birthday cupcakes and say my desired phrase. Well I pick up the cupcakes and they don't say anything special, they don't look like birthday cupcakes, I mean they honestly look like I made them myself at home. I was hoping at this point that they would at least taste phenomenal, but they were average at best. I honestly felt like I should have just bought cupcakes from King Soopers because they would have tasted and looked the same and probably been about $45 cheaper lol I was hoping Mermaids would be great and I could use them for our son's first birthday smash cake but I have no desire to order from here again. And a side note; they somewhat hassle you about your pickup time. My pickup time was 12:30 on Saturday and I got a text as 12, and a call at 12:22 to remind me that they close at 1pm. I arrived at 12:24 (6 min early) to get them so I didn't really appreciate being harangued when I wasn't even late. I would recommend to the business owner to at least wait until someone is like 5 minute late to start calling.

This cake truthfully came straight out of a dream. The cake was perfect in every way possible. Including the flavor and moisture. 10/10 Service communication was perfect and very engaging. Ambiance was 10/10. Do it.

This is by far the best bakery in all of Denver with the possibility of on all of Colorado. We order cake for a four years olds birthday and it a work of art and as pretty as it was it tasted better. It was such a huge it. We asked our girl what she wanted to have on her cake and trust me she had a lot to say about it well they hit it out of the park. She was a ver happy and delighted. So highly recommended this bakery for your special occasion needs. Oh and there cupcakes are to die for and the flavors change every week. Just true perfection.

Delicious cupcakes!! Not only are the cupcakes beautiful aesthetically, the taste is spot on! The best part is they're not too sweet!! They also freeze and defrost really well! To help you prepare for your visit, I'll say the location isn't ideal for picking up unless you're already downtown. I so so luckily got a street spot right outside. Just be prepared to look for a parking spot downtown which is never fun.

This cake was amazing! It was super moist and my family from Kansas City loved it! The icing is whipped and has a very light, fulfilling texture.

3.7 star average for this place is not remotely accurate. I'm not really in to sweets but this place is fantastic. I frequently bought mermaid cupcakes for my team for birthdays etc, never had a bad experience. When you walk in it smells so amazing, they should bottle the air and sell it.

The absolute BEST gluten free cupcakes I've ever had. And believe me I've had A LOT being gluten free since 2009. This is the tastiest. Texture is perfect and taste is great.

Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! From ordering on the phone to pickup - customer service was top notch! I was a little weary because of the unhappy reviews, but as long as you pick up your order within their business hours you are set! Now about the cake...decadent, moist and pure deliciousness from the frosting to each layer, simply perfection! I was worried it was going to be too sweet, but they have perfected the balance. I would definitely recommend this bakery! Used them for my sons 10th birthday and if I celebrate another birthday in Denver this place will be my go to!

OMG so good! My children bought me the chocolate mousse cake for my birthday and it was superb. The chocolate cake was moist, light and fluffy and free of dryness. It had a rich chocolate flavor while at the same time not being too sweet. The Swiss meringue was perfection. Silky smooth and buttery. Thick and ultra creamy.

I ordered this Neapolitan cake online this week and it was a very easy and friendly process. The bakery modified the design to fit Rosie's birthday, and I think it turned out perfect!! Beautiful cake and honestly one of the most delicious cakes I've had. The strawberry and chocolate flavors were on point and the cake was super moist. I will be ordering this flavor cake from now on, for all special occasions!! Thank you!!

Ordered these for my husband for our anniversary. He moved to Denver over a month ago, from Texas, and has been trying to find us a house to rent but it's been hard. So, for the anniversary we couldn't spend together I wanted to do something special. German chocolate cake is his absolute favorite and apparently hard to find in cupcake form. This place made it happen!!! My email was promptly returned with a phone call and the woman was so nice!!! Gave me the time frame in which they would be delivered and they were right on time!!! I am absolutely impressed! Apparently they taste good because he couldn't even wait to take the photo and I'm sure they're gone by now way to go and thank you:):):) I can't wait to move up there and actually get to come into the shop. P.S. he just messaged me and told me they were() the best cupcakes EVER!!! thank you again!!

The quality of ingredients, the teamwork, and the attention to decorative detail at Mermaids really "takes the cake!!!" I sent cupcakes to family friends for bereavement, and Diana and her crew did an excellent job! I asked for some "chocolate therapy", and they delivered! I live out of state now, but I know I can always count on Mermaids Bakery for all my baked goods to send deliciousness to my family and friends in Denver!!! A++++

Horrible customer service! Do not waste your time or money here! I tried to get 6 cupcakes delivered within .5 mile of the shop. On the bakery's website it specifically says will do deliveries for orders over $30. When I called the bakery refused to honor this and said they will only deliver a minimum of a dozen cupcakes ($50) and charge a $10 delivery fee. They suggested I use grub hub. I placed an order with grub hub which was canceled because the hours the bakery listed with the delivery service were wrong (said they were closed). This was true for all delivery companies. When I called the bakery and explained this, they still refused to deliver anything less than 12 cupcakes even after I offered to pay a delivery fee. I am out of state and was over a barrel with time so I agreed to buy 12 cupcakes, when I asked if they could give any kind of discount for the hassle the bakery yelled at me and threatened to refuse the order. This was after I explained to them it was a birthday gift for a friend I was supposed to visit but I had ended up in the hospital and couldn't travel. I also got a call from Grub Hin detailing how they had called the Bakery multiple times to figure out the order but no one answered. Go some place where the business actually cares about their customers. Nothing is sweet enough to wash away the bitter taste of this bad of customer service.

We had a really great experience ! We ordered a custom cake for my daughters 16th birthday. We sent over a couple of pictures of what she wanted and it was beautiful when we picked it up ! Everyone at the party loved the cake, it was so yummy !

Very good cupcakes. Moist. Fresh and flavorful. I mostly enjoyed the chocolate but sampled a good variety. All were good!

Since moving to Denver we have gotten all of our birthday/anniversary/celebration cakes from here. Love this bakery, it's also nice how they let you do curbside pickup too!

Super cute cupcakes! The cake part is fluffy and I love the almond elements to it. The frosting part was thicker than expected, but had a lovely raspberry taste. Would recommend for a cute treat

The description says it all. "Meh. I've experienced better." We were having a drink at Union Lodge No.1, which is literally less than 10 feet away from this place, the night before so we came back the next morning to try a cupcake. Man, I was really hoping for something better than what we got. We got a peanut butter, and a snickerdoodle cupcake; neither were anything special. Though the icing wasn't just pure sugar and was somewhat more buttery and creamy they weren't nearly as good as we were wishing they would be. Chic place, boring, plain cupcakes.

Got several cupcakes to taste test for a party order. These cupcakes were not up my alley. The chocolate cake was really really good, the vanilla was good but did not blow me away. Most of the cake was either chocolate or vanilla with frosting/topping variations. One thing that was fun was that they put some of the flavor filling in the middle of the cake, for example the salted caramel had some caramel drizzle inside. The cake to frosting ratio was pretty good too. But, unfortunately, the frosting was the whipped kind and not the sugar kind. I really didn't care for the whipped frosting, but if that's your jam then you will probably like the cupcakes. It made the flavors a bit boring, like the chocolate cake with raspberry frosting sounds fantastic but the whipped frosting didn't bring out the fruit enough. I ate the cake but tossed the frosting. So, there's pros and cons. They did not have smalls available, you have to order. Everything was very beautiful, and on the $$$ side. I suggest tasting if you are in the market for a cake or cupcake.

These are the best cupcakes ever!! A co-worker brought them in one time and I've never gone to another bakery since. You should definitely try them!

I randomly stumbled across Mermaids Bakery when I was visiting Denver yesterday...and TRUST me when I say, I am FLABBERGASTED this bakery has only 4.5 stars on Yelp. It should be a solid 5 across the board (I mean I'd recommend 1000 stars if I could.) I had one of their cookies--their marshmallow and Kellogg cereal cookie--and hands down it was one of the top ten cookies I've ever eaten in my LIFE (and I've eaten a lot of cookies...ha!) And THEN I had their peanut butter and jelly cupcake because I was curious as to whether it could live up to the quality of the cookie, and I was absolutely blown away. Not only was the cupcake DELICIOUS--not too sweet, SUPER flavorful, but it was also incredibly tender and moist. It's rare, IMO, for a bakery to do BOTH cookies and cupcakes equally well and Mermaids nailed it. I am DEEPLY saddened I live in Austin and cannot visit this bakery every day and send ALL my friends to eat there too, but I will absolutely tell anyone who goes to the Denver area that Mermaids Bakery, near 16 St. Mall, is a MUST stop for any dessert lover. I am already counting down the days until I can visit again! And for those who live in Denver, go take advantage because you are some lucky ducks (or lucky mermaids I suppose...haha)!

Very beautiful custom cake! The cake itself was funfetti and really tasty, but the frosting was near inedible. The frosting had little to no taste and was very very firm, almost like it had too much butter or was over churned. However the cake itself was good and pretty - just what we requested.

AMAZING!!! Literally the most amazing cupcakes EVER!! Not too small, not too big. Perfect amount of the most delicious frosting I've ever had in my life. I had a dozen of mixture of cupcakes , the white cake with sprinkles so delicious. Seriously this place is doing it right!

Mermaids is a top notch bakery. My Dad ordered me a surprise chocolate birthday cake from this place all the way from the UK. My wife picked it up and surprised me with it. The cake itself was delicious! What I liked the most was that the cream filling wasn't too sweet or sickly. The texture of the cake was perfect, nice and spongey. Come and visit this place if your in downtown Denver and craving cake.

This review is only for the gluten free cupcakes. My office had cupcakes catered for some birthday parties. They ordered gluten free cupcakes especially for me - how considerate is that!? They were really delicious. I ate one, and then had to have another. I don't even know what kind it was, because it had a basic vanilla bottom with white vanilla frosting. It did have some chocolate chips on top AND on bottom, which was a pleasant surprise when I got there. The kicker was that the cupcake wasn't super dense and cardboardy like a lot of gluten free baked goods are due to the gluten free flour. Is cardboardy a word? If not, it should be. If you need a gluten free sugar fix, go here!

What a great downtown bakery! They do custom cake orders and grab and go cupcakes daily so perfect for any sweets lover. The staff is super friendly too.

Sweet dreams are made from sticky, marshmallow, sugary cookies. I've seen them at the highlands farmers several times and decided to give them a try. I grabbed a marshmallow cornflake cookie pack and it was divine! It tastes like you're eating the milk from the bottom of a cereal bowl. It's chewy yet crunchy. Give their cookies a try next time you see them at a farmers market ! They don't sell their cookies in their retail shop. Can't wait to try their cakes cause they look B E A U T I F U L!

Very disappointed. Their photos are gorgeous and I wanted a cake from them badly. I emailed twice, DMed on IG, and called and left a message but never heard from back from them. I even gave them over 10 days to respond before having to change my plans for my daughter's birthday. A simple message with regrets would have been greatly appreciated.

Happened to walk by and stopped in to check it out!! AMAZING!!! The black and white cupcake was TO DIE FOR!!! I love cupcakes, try to find them everywhere I travel, these are by far some of the best, I've had!! I'll be back to try the red velvet as she had sold the last one to the girl in front of me! Went to store and they had several cupcakes in the display and wanted to purchase 30 cupcakes of what was there, the gal in the back yells Pause that to us and says I need to fill 48 cupcakes first and they see if I can sell you that many. The staff acted as if it was an inconvenience and not very nice. After I said Nevermind she says we can do it but by this time I just didn't want to do business with anyone that made us feel like we were inconveniencing them. Went to another bakery that was grateful for our business.

The cupcakes here are delicious!! We walked in while hanging out at the 16th street mall, and this was a great find! We loved all the flavors we tried. The frosting was just the right amount of sweetness, and the flavors were on point. This is a must stop if you want a sweet treat!

Mermaids literally delivered cupcakes to me 15 minutes ago. They are so amazing I felt I better tell everyone right away so they could also experience this amazement. Truthfully cupcakes are usually too sweet for me but these are perfect. The frosting is some kind of magical cloud like substance. Mine were coconut which is my favorite but now I want to try all their flavors!

The best birthday cake I've ever had. My sister ordered this for me. I'd never heard of Mermaids Bakery before and can't believe on what I was missing out on. Their Mama's Chocolate Cake was decadently delicious. Can't wait to order one for my husband's birthday too.

I used to be a food walking tour guide for cupcakes, chocolate, wine & cheese, and beer, and I have to say this is one of my favorite cupcake shops I've been to. Not because the store is cute or a fun experience or because of its location. Because the cupcake itself makes you feel like you're at a royal high tea - you almost feel guilty ruining its gorgeous form, but then basically gobble it up in partial orgasm because the cake is so friggen delicate, balanced, and gratifying. I'm really surprised this place had an overall 3.5 star rating. A coworker bought a few dozen cupcakes a couple of times to the point where I crave these and go there on my own for an afternoon pick me up. I also go there to cheer people up when they're having a bad day and when they're having a good day to keep the good vibes going. The cupcakes are made fresh daily so the later in the day you go the fewer the options. Typically I'd say vanilla cupcakes are boring, but Mermaid's is the ultimate expert at making vanilla the ultimate gold star. Go. Splurge. Be wowed.

Before you go anywhere please stop of and get some cupcakes.. the chocolate had a hint of coffee the wedding cake melted in your mouth and the raspberry made me drool.. You will not regret it

I had ordered cupcakes for my daughters birthday party. I called the day before to confirm and discussed pick up time. When I came to pick up my order, they did not have it. So we do not have cupcakes for the party. Would NOT recommend if you are needing something for an event. Will not come back!

Can't say if they have a good or bad product. Sent email day ago asking to place an order for birthday cake. They say they get back to you, and then you pay. But no call or email response. Called them today, dude says we got your email...but can't make a cake. So it seems if they can't accommodate you, they don't bother to call or email you back. Whatever.

Once in a while I detox on a gluten free diet, so I decided to give their GF cupcake a whirl. Hands down one of the best GF ones I've had. Cake didn't have too much of the grainy texture and the filling helped give the cake some additional moisture. Now, for the regular cupcakes...it's really hit or miss depending on the flavor and/or day. I have had some at work where I've taken a couple bites and tossed out. Yes, Betty Crocker's supreme moist would put some of those dry cakes to shame. Seriously. Then you have the ones that are just oh-so-yummy and you feel like a pig trying not to eat 2 or 3 in a team setting. My go-to in general is the Wedding Day- probably the most consistent each time. In general, the presentation can use some work. Sometimes the frosting is lopsided and uneven, with the cake portion overflowing on one side or whatnot. For $3.75/ea, some additional attention to detail would help.

I'm giving this bakery based on work preformed. I called two weeks to inquire about have a graduation cake made for a party, I spoke to Diana and email her a picture of the cake I needed made, after she received email she confirmed she could make the cake and would have done by the date I needed. That was great news!!! I confirmed more the one with her staff that the cake would look like the picture, well ladies and gentlemen it did not!!! I was mortified when I saw the mile high top hat on the graduation cake. They did offer to cut it down but for 300 bucks there was no way I has going to have the toss 40 bucks worth the cake on the trash. I was so embarrassed by this cake. The flavor we're good, but I was extremely dissatisfied with the out come of this cake.
