Been coming here for years, like 10 years. And the food always good, i always like the Nasi bungkus, Ayam penyet and risoles. Their service always so friendly, kind and sweet...

Family-run Indonesian restaurant with fried chicken. They’re currently offering takeout/pickup during covid. I’ve always seen this place whenever I go get a massage at Ancient Thai, so we ordered lunch here on a Sunday. You can order online through their website or via phone. They said it would take ~20 minutes to prepare, but it was closer to 30. There were some Indonesian food stuff for sale inside the restaurant, and they enforce wearing a mask, social distancing, etc. Credit cards are accepted. Parking is available in the strip mall lot. Food-wise, the meat is a bit on the smaller side, but the flavor is top-notch. The half fried chicken (ayam kremesan)was more akin to the size of a quarter chicken, but the chili sauce and the fried crunchy things that came on the side were delicious. The sate babi (pork sticks) were also on the smaller side, but very tasty. The peanut sauce that came on the side was thick and peanut buttery; it completed the sticks very well. The chicken fried rice (nasi goreng Jawa) had a slightly pungent taste (maybe due to the fish sauce) but had a generous serving size and had a decent level of moistness. Overall, it’s a small family-run restaurant with authentic, good food with reasonable prices.

My friend suggested I tried their fried chicken. They have 3 different seasonings. I started out with #1 which comes with a crunchy topping. My daughter got noodles with no meat and they substituted it with tofu. I was very happy with my fried chicken. I got a half chicken which is on the small side but just the right amount for me. This w place was crazy busy at lunch time and there was a few groups waiting for a table. The parking lot is super small and you'll have to wait for a space because there's no other parking near by.

As I was browsing Indonesian restaurants at LA's area to try on yelp. I came across this Indonesian restaurant. My husband really missed eating Indonesian food. Especially me... I really want to eat gado2 (Indonesian salad with peanut sauce) that tastes really like my favorite gado gado in my hometown in East Java, Indonesia. I was reviewing the pictures from this restaurant and found it. So we order 1 order of nasi bebek (duck rice), 1 order gado2, 1 es teler (avocado, jackfruit, green gelatin, coconut, palm fruits, coconut milk, shaved ice, syrup, & condensed milk), and 1 es blewah (shredded cantaloupe with ice & syrup). The portions of nasi bebek and gado2 were huge. So delicious. Highly authentic Indonesian cuisine. Especially the gado2...was much the same as my favorites. We also ordered for to go, 1 order empal goreng (marinated fried beef) and another nasi bebek. We really liked eating here and the service was great. We will definitely be back, enjoy.

Fried chicken (actually Cornish hens?) Is good albeit very small. Also tried stir fried vegetables and tumeric chicken soup. All are good. If you are in the area, I think this restaurant is worth a visit. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here though as there are plenty of good fried chicken options these days.

Stopped by here as I didn't want to stay in traffic on the 60 and came in for a quick snack/light dinner. The rissole and nasi bungkus didn't disappoint at all. Be prepared to get takeout since they have limited seating in the store and outside. Will def visit again!

Great chicken place! I like how they put all the fried crumbs just on top so you can adjust how much you want to eat and not feel too oily after eating all the breadings. Good for my Keto diets, too!

Amazing food and service. I found this place right around the time of the pandemic and I was so good! I'm sad they are temporarily closed!!

First time here, thanks to my friend's recommendation. The vibe is laid-back--think tables and chairs, nothing fancy. But the food? Oh, the food is like a five-star restaurant in disguise! We sampled various dishes, and I went for the Nasi Bungkus. Pro tip: come with a hearty appetite. The portions are so generous that I couldn't even finish my lunch. I've been daydreaming about Nasi Bungkus ever since, and it's been over a week and a half! I often find myself pondering a 40-minute drive just for takeout. Can you blame me? The food is that good--absolutely delicious, bursting with flavors, and leaving you craving more. I can't wait to return and indulge again.

RIP to a legit local spot. I think it was the only Indonesian spot close to Walnut, and I would buy my kaya jam from them. Nasi Bungkus was amazing and now I need to find a new spot to fill this loss.

Considering the fact I've never had Indonesian food I can't compare it to anything else. I came to try the Nasi bunkis, ooOOOoo mannnnnnn it's so good and the spiciness is just the right amount but for beginners I'd recommend having the Sambal on the side. The Kwetiauw Goreng kind reminds me of pad see ew but w bean sprouts!

Best Ayam Kremes and Kalasan in the city. I have been going here for the past 10+ years and this place never disappoints! The service is awesome, the staff is always nice, and they always welcome you! They started from a restaurant and now have a small grocery inside and that's very convenient to pick up some stuff that you need, especially Indonesian snacks or meds. I hope they will add nasi uduk or tempe mendoan in the future! :)

Love this place!! Def a mom and pop / family owned business. The food here is delicious , 10/10, and the server is so nice. She gave us extra crispy parts on the chicken and also hooked it up and gave us green chili on the side for our nasi bunkus. Definitely try their nasi bunkus if you come here, never had anything like it. It has different kinds of proteins , mixed in with curry and chile and vegetables all wrapped in a banana leaf. Portions were huge!! Fried chicken was also delicious. Crispy and juicy. They also have a little section on the side of the restaurant where they sell snacks, drinks, condiments like a little supermarket aisle. Def give this place a shot if you never had Indonesian food.

All the food from this place reminds me of my hometown. The flavors are so bold and authentic. My favorite is nasi bungles and nasi sayur. They don't have nasi sayur in the menu anymore but you can order it still. They also have mini Indonesian grocery stores besides the dining area. It's a family restaurant and everyone there is so sweet and friendly. So if you look for authentic Indonesian food, I really recommend this place.

Came here for lunch on a Saturday with friends and there are plenty of tables for small groups. I suggested coming here after many positive Yelp reviews. Service is excellent and trust his recommendations. We ordered the Es Kelapa Muda which my friend loved. The appetizer Rissoles were very tasty with chicken inside. We did family style with order of Ayam Kremesan-super delicious and a whole chicken is enough to split between 3-4 people when ordered in combination of Nasi Goreng Jawa and Nasi Bungkus. Everything was full of flavor and we asked for no spicy and it was still super flavorful. I've had Indonesian food before in Alhambra and my friend had it in Amsterdam and we both agreed this place far exceeded those places. Highly recommend this place!

Little shop with all your Indonesian food needs. The selection of condiments is pretty extensive, and the cooked food for ordering takeout is really flavorful and authentic.

I had learned of Merrys House of Chicken from a restaurant review years ago (maybe Jonathan Gold?). I moved from Pasadena to West Covina last fall...so now it is nearby. I have traveled in Indonesia, mostly Bali, and I really miss the foods I came to love there. We arrived the night before last to find that Merrys House of Chicken is a smallish storefront in a somewhat run-down strip mall in the vicinity of Mt San Antonio college, wedged between a Filipino restaurant and a Thai Massage place. It is a combination ethnic grocery and restaurant. The shelves featured Indonesian goods, the stuff one would expect. Kecap manis, sambal asli, etc. And some Dutch products, well one that I saw...Hagel shlag of course!..residue of Indonesia's Dutch colonial past. My son ordered a plate of nasi goreng, which was plain but perfectly delicious. I ordered a duck breast, bebek goreng, because I had the absolute best duck ever, bebek betutu, in Ubud, Bali in 1999. This duck was not up to that standard, but it did have wonderful flavor and thoroughly pleased me. It came with a small dollop of a green chile paste which was hot as blazes...reminded me of Isaan Thai chile paste. It is an extremely humble operation, but the fellow running the shop was really pleasant and my son and I both enjoyed our meals.

Ordered take out for dinner and was completely taken aback at how good everything tasted. We shared the following: -sate ayum ($11.75 for 5 skewers): BBQ chicken on a stick served with peanut sauce -ayam kremesan ($17 for a whole chicken): well marinated fried chicken with crunchy crumbs served with shrimp paste chili -nasi goring Ilan Asian ($12.99): "salted fish fried rice" with egg noodles and boiled egg -kwe tiauw goreng ($12.99): stir-fried rice noodles in thick soy sauce with chicken, slice beef-meatball, bean sprouts and mustard greens -nasi bungkus ($13.50): combination of white rice, chicken curry, beef rendang, spicy egg and veggies in curry sauce We ordered - as advertised as a house of chicken - all the chicken. Their chicken, in both skewer and fried form was mindblowingly delicious. The chicken was incredibly moist and distinctly unique in flavor. While chicken skewers are usually Boring City, these were so flavorful on their own and even better with the peanut sauce. Their fried chicken isn't battered up the American way, but instead crisped and topped with more crispies. It's paired with a hot, hot, hot chili paste. It was just so good. For our carbs, we chose items that sounded good to us, one being the salted fish fried rice. This was great as with the noodles as well. For a complete experience, we ordered the nasi bungkus which comes wrapped in banana leaves. Unwrapping it let loose a thousand textures and flavors. Don't sleep on Indonesian food. I only wish that I got onto to the train sooner. If you're looking for something new to try, I highly suggest coming here. Order any of their chicken dishes and pair it with rice and or noodles. It's as easy as it comes.

This is number one restaurant to go for Indonesian style fried duck! Whether is tight or breast part, they are all tender & juicy. This place also offers indonesian groceries from spices to ready food. The owner and the children run this place well, they are friendly and we felt welcomed. The place is quite small and squeeze but it is comfortable enough to dine in. Unfortunately the distance from my place is about 50 miles, so once in a while only I can visit. Wished really it is close, because I would have dined in more often.

This small Indonesian market and food shop is located in a food plaza in West Covina. ⁣Parking is easy and convenient. I happen to be their first customer today so everything is freshly made!! That's awesome. They accept cash and card with a minimum $10 purchase. ⁣ ⁣ The chicken is so juicy and tender. When I pull off the wing, the meat falls off the bones instantly. Indonesian spot with some of the best fried chicken. Most recently ordered takeout from here on a Saturday evening for dinner and the food was ready half an hour later. It's primarily a takeout spot. There's a parking lot as it's located in a strip mall. My pro tip would be to get a massage at ancient Thai next door and time your order so that it'll be ready when you're done with your massage Credit cards accepted. The fried chicken is a must-get. It's perfectly crispy and flavorful. The satay sticks (5 to an order) are another must-get. I love the peanut sauce that comes on the side as well. The fried rice has a strong fish sauce undertone (which you may or may not appreciate) and is good for 3-4 people to split. Two dishes and an appetizer were a good amount of food for the three of us. The restaurant also is a marketplace with Indonesian snacks, so you can peruse while you wait.

Omg!! I'm so mad that I didn't take more pictures of all the deliciousness. I was too hungry to take a picture of the food, lol. I had the Ayam kremes, which is so delicious!! It is a must try!! The chicken is so tender and full of flavor!! I love the crunch, too!! It's so good and worth a try. The es teller is so amazing and has lots of toppings. The sate babi is so tender and the right amount of spice. Nasi kuning is also delicious, and the rendang is sooo tender. I love it so much, I'm going back on Saturday. I will try to remember to take a picture before I devour all the food. It took me about 2 hrs drive from San Diego to this place. But, it's so worth it. It has a store inside also. We bought noodles, spices, and krupuk. You have to try this amazing Indonesian place at least once and let me know your fave dish. FYI, parking is tough, and the table to eat is small.

One of the hidden gems of West Covina. There's a lot of Indonesian restaurants, but I'm telling you, "There's Something About Merry" and that fried chicken. (If you get the reference) Little crisps on top. The right amount of lime to soften it and their sambal chili. Absolutely superb. - Make sure you ask for their Orange Sauce and Indonesian Thick Soy Sauce. They won't give it until requested. Trust me.

This the best East Java Indonesian restaurant in SoCal . The food is good specifically Javanese fried chicken and spicy chili sauce with schrimp paste is really good

3.5 STARS. With 4.5 stars and reading so many positive Yelp reviews, I was excited to try some Indonesian food at Merry's House of Chicken. However, I must have had too high of expectations as Merry's didn't quite deliver. We ordered online and got the Ayam Kremesan ($17.50) which is their house special fried chicken with crunchy crumbs, two orders of Nasi Bungkus ($12.50 each), Nasi Goreng Jawa ($11.99), Bakmie Goreng Jawa ($10.99), Sate Babi ($10.75) and the Cah Sawi ($8.75). I love fried chicken so was excited to try the Ayam Kremesan but it wasn't as exciting as I had hoped. For $17.50, the portion was really small. The chicken also looked very flat as if it was smashed with a mallet. The chicken was fairly juicy but I didn't get much flavor from it. I did however LOVE the crunchy bits that came with the dish! They were extra crispy and delicious. My favorite dish of the bunch however was the Nasi Bungkus which is a combination of white rice, chicken curry, beef rendang, spicy egg balado, and vegetables in a curry sauce all wrapped in a banana leaf. The dish was flavorful, spicy and delicious. If you decide to give Merry's a try, this is the dish you have to get. Everything else we ordered however was just average. As a note, no indoor seating is available and there's only one small table outside for dining. The interior of the restaurant is also set up as a mini market for Indonesian goodies and snacks.

Legit Indonesian food. I love their lemper, lamb satay and gado gado. There's not many options in OC so this is probably your best option when you want authentic Indonesian food.

We always make the drive from Vegas just to eat at this friendly mom-and-pop Indonesian restaurant. Their nasi bungkus with kremas is the best combo I've ever had, and their nasi kuning is unmatched. The flavors are authentic and truly exceptional. Highly recommend!

Merry's is a very small "mom and pop" establishment situated in a strip mall with other eateries. They can accommodate 2 large groups at one time at about 10 to 12 seats. If you choose to dine in, you would have to wait until either group leaves and wait until the tables are separated. This is where they lose a star. If you don't want to wait, order to-go and enjoy the meal in the comforts of your air conditioned car, at the park or at home. The food is very much like home cooking! The chicken dish is their most popular. It's delicious! We also had the salted fish fried rice and the spinach. All the food tasted great! We didn't get a chance to taste the desserts as we were quite full from the meal - which means you get a hearty meal!!

This restaurant has been a community staple for years and I finally got a chance to try it recently ! Parking can be really limited in this tiny plaza, especially with a boba place, several businesses, and restaurants there. At the side between the residential apartments, there is parking sometimes. Worst comes to worst, there's parking across the street where the 24 Hour fitness is. Currently there's no dine in, but there's 2 small tables outside with 2 chairs each if you're lucky. We had to take our meal to a local park, but no biggie ! The restaurant is a also a small market with imported Indonesian goods, some refrigerated items, pastries, snacks, etc. We got the: 1) Nasi Kuning: -Combo of yellow rice, piece of fried chicken (we got the drumstick), beef rendang, spicy egg balado, and perkedel (fried potato cake). There were also a couple slices of cucumber too. -The chicken was a decent sized drum stick that was lightly breaded and fried. Not bad! I don't think I'd crave this kinda chicken normally so I was just okay with it. -The yellow rice had the same flavor as curry flavored rice, so that was nice, added an extra depth of flavor to our meal. -The beef rendang was moist, though the interior part was a bit dry and tough. -The spicy egg was doused in chili sauce. Not bad, gotta let the yolk absorb the sauce around it though. -You can never go wrong with fried potato anything, so that was great. 2) Hot Coffee (3 in 1 mix): -It's instant Kopiko coffee. They ask if you want it strong or not though. -Probably best to just buy a box of this and prepare it to be honest. Not bad if you're in a rush though. 3) Soda Gembira: -Condensed milk, rose syrup, and soda water. -They were nice enough to give me the leftover soda water in the can haha -It's a very interesting pretty gradient to take a pic of and you HAVE to mix it well. It's extremely sweet otherwise (like sickeningly so, my brother said it tasted like concentrated vape juice lmao). -After it's mixed well, it tastes like a very rose-y milk. The other 2 components drown out the carbonation from the soda water. I don't think I'd get this again, but I am glad that I can say that I have tried it. I don't mind trying their other dishes in the future one day!

The chicken tasted dry and no flavor. The crunch on top was also flavorless and it was so much that I had to remove some. The spicy sauce that came with it was ok. It added some depth but not enough to save the dish. There's no restroom available so that was a let down. The small grocery section didn't have much to offer as well.

Jimmy and his family have the best recommendations when you're trying Indonesian food! All their food is amazing and they have a great variety of snacks and groceries. Anything wrapped in banana leaf is delicious!

Get the Ayam Kremesan (fried chicken) with crunchy crumbs!! Ayam Kremesan (ayam kremes) is a smaller-sized chicken (cornish hen?), fried & served with kremes (crunchy crumbs), a very spicy sambal (chili paste) & few slices of cucumber. Have this with steamed rice & wash it down with icy cold Teh Botol ... heaven! So far we've tried: * Nasi Bungkus - which was great! It has so much flavor and toppings, and it tastes authentic. * Nasi Kuning Komplit - was ok. We've had better. For dine-in, there were only few tables (3 tables?) placed between shelves of grocery items. Honestly, it's not a place you would go to enjoy a comfortable dining experience with family/friends. It's a small mom-and-pop shop where you eat good food, then pay & leave as soon as you finish. The rest of the restaurant is stocked with Indonesian instant noodles, snacks, spices etc). Service was friendly, but relatively slow at times. Parking could be an issue at this small plaza.

This is long overdue. I love Merry's Chicken for the varieties of the food, price, quality and consistency. Its authentic Indonesian food, good customer service, decent size. It feels like eating home food. Parking can ve challenging since its located in the busy plaza. Restroom available for customer only, and have to pass through their kitchen.

My new favorite place I've had this for 4/4 of my last meals lol. It may be a lil intimidating going in if it's your first time, cuz there's a lot of good options- but just ask the owner there if you need help!!! It seems one is usually there. They are so nice and recommended me the popular dishes. I'll fill you in on my favs: Ayam kremesan - (soft fall off the bone cornish hen with oily crumbs on top, ask for rice. You mix the crumbs and rice in with the super tender and flavorful chicken meat and it's sooo bomb cuz of all the oils) **Nasi Bungkus - (can be non-spicy which is what I get. SOOOOO FREAKING GOOD YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED. From the pics it looks sorta weird so I got it for my partner and took a bite. Then I went back and ordered a whole one for myself lol. It's CURRY + BEEF + tea egg and rice. It's the bomb trust me it may look bit messy but it's sooooo good)

I usually get the nasi bungkus ($10.50) and the Es campur ($5.50). This place is one of my favorite Indonesian restaurants that I've been going to for years. The nasi bungkus comes wrapped in banana leaves and they do give a good amount for the price. Inside, there's beef rendang, spicy egg balado (great heat to it), sayur lodeh (vegetable in curry sauce), and chicken curry with white rice. The Es campur is like filipino halo halo with both being shaved ice with condensed milk cantaloupe, palm fruit, black grass jelly, and jackfruit. $0.25 charge under $10. The staff is nice, place can get crowded. Parking can be a hassle to get a spot.

Very tasty Risoles. The only items I love it, it's my favorite finger food. Every time I'm craving, I always go to this place. The service is very nice and friendly. I give good recommendations.

You might be wondering why the low rating... let me explain. I've never had Indonesian food before I ordered food from here. I had a sudden urge to try it out for the first time and found this place on Yelp. It seemed like they were known for their chicken and I love fried chicken in many forms. I was excited to try this culture's take on the dish. I love supporting hole in the wall shops but I did not find anything enjoyable here. The mom and pop shops are usually the restaurants with food that packs a punch of flavor but I was left disappointed in the flavor department. Food: I ordered their house specialty chicken, Ayam Kremesan. Pictures make it look so tasty but what I received was definitely not it. I didn't really know what to expect as it was my first time trying a new cuisine. I hoped the actual chicken itself would be crispy and juicy. As you can see from the pictures below, the chicken seems to have been starving hahaha I joke but what I got was tiny. Not sure if I just got two bad pieces but since it was so small, the meat itself was dry. The overall dish was dry and was begging for some moisture. The shrimp chili sauce was oily and was more of a paste. It added little in terms of flavor. I expected more of a punch from the shrimp paste but all I got was spice from the chili. The chicken didn't seem to be seasoned with much and was bland as well. The crunchy coating I didn't really touch either. It had no flavor and was only there for texture. If it was fried chicken skin then I'd be on board, but this was just fried batter crumbs and it was excessively greasy. The fact that they only put a single cucumber slice is laughable. If I'm paying $12 for two tiny pieces of chicken the least you can do is add a couple more cucumbers. The rice was good though, it had a nice turmeric taste and the fried shallots added flavor. Service: It was just okay. I hateeee leaving negative reviews unless I have to. This was a bad first impression of Indonesian food and first impressions are everything. Flavor was disappointing and the small amount of food was not worth the price.

I don't know about other food. I ordered gado2, bakmi goreng, nasi kuning, nasi goreng. Bumbu gado2 Dari bungkus an premade, bakmi too soft the noodle. Nasi kuning acceptably. Nasi goreng, ha is makan I was having stomach problem, want to threw up. I could not sleep the whole night. The smell of the nasi goreng oil stick on my mouth. Hate it!

Came here because it was reviewed well on yelp. At first entry, we thought it was just a grocery store. There were hardly any tables inside and just a couple outside. But the manager said they changed to a hybrid grocery store/ restaurant because of Covid and they probably weren't going to change back to just a restaurant. He recommended the number 30 (nasi bunkus) . It was a combo chicken and beef with rice and I think kale and came wrapped in a banana leaf.. The sauce made the meal. I wish I could say I knew what it was. For lunch, this place was perfect.

I'm all about that chicken lyfe! +friendly and fast service +variety of dishes on the menu +food is absolutely delicious -/+bathroom is a little difficult to find, and walking to it feels like you are where only employees should be. But, it is clean. -they share the lot with plenty of other restaurants/ businesses, so depending on the time you go, parking can be difficult. MUST TRYS: Ayam Kremesan (fried chicken)- with the crunchy crumbs served with shrimp paste chili. You have to try this with the sweet soy sauce, the shrimp paste chili or red curry sauce, and a squeeze of lime mixed together! It's the perfect pairing-- for basically everything! Got the nasi bungkus, it was pretty mid and over hyped. Beef was kinda dry, a bit greasy, I mean it's not bad but it wasn't amazing it was just alright. Not worth $18! One of my friends ordered it and some of the meat came out cold! This place should be 3 stars being generous! 2 stars total imo. I know my sht trust me y'all

After hearing this place from others, finally I was able to visit. Like any other Indonesian rest, they also have a mini market that sell Indonesian snacks. The place is clean. All snacks are placed neatly. I think almost people order to go instead of dining in. We ordered " Ayam Suharti " with extra " Kremes ". The chicken is very soft and delicious. Since it is to go, you might want to re heat it with air frier to get the crispy texture. Taste great. Reasonable price. Definitely will come again.

Nasi bungkus is soo delicious. The ayam kalasan is also really good. Overall good. Beware of the chili. Yikes.

Their Lemper is an absolute treat! It has that lovely sticky rice with light coconut curry chicken flavor in the middle. If my body didn't absorb carbs do much, that's all I would eat. Their nasi bungkus is a must order dish. I failed to take images because I was too hungry to wait. There are individual sections of different joys. From curry chicken, egg, tender beef with light flavored rice wrapped in banana leaf (or some kind of big leaf) The owner is super kind and welcoming. Let's support more small businesses like this!

Grocery slash to go place for Indonesian food. There are tables but not quite cozy to sit with family really. Overall the crispy chicken is delish

Good Indonesian restaurant located in West Covina. My friends and I came here a while back and were pleasantly surprised. I ordered the Mie Ayam Jamur which is dry egg noodles topped with mushroom, chicken, and veggies with soup on the side. The egg noodles were perfectly cooked and the mushroom and chicken mixture was very flavorful. The dish itself was on the oilier side but thats what makes it good right? The soup was suuuper salty though. I couldn't drink it. One of my friend ordered the whole chicken dish and while he did let us try it, basically ate the whole chicken there. In one seating. Wild. It was very good though. It's what the restaurant is known for. Service was good. Quick and attentive. I recommend checking it out if you haven't had Indonesian food before.
