Nashville’s New Restaurant Openings - Nashville - The Infatuation

"The Tex-Mex invasion of Nashville continues with the opening of Mesero in 12 South. It’s the first location outside of Texas for the chain, and all the usual suspects are present: different variations of queso and guacamole, tacos, enchiladas, and a double-patty cheeseburger. Are there margaritas and ranch waters? Obviously." - jackie gutierrez jones 2

Mesero - Review - 12 South - Nashville - The Infatuation

"Mesero’s is what Chuy’s might be if it won the Powerball. But not one of the huge jackpot draws, just a modest lump sum to make things a bit more comfortable. The Tex-Mex’s first location outside of Texas has all of the usual suspects: different variations of queso and guacamole, tacos, enchiladas, and a double-patty cheeseburger. Are there margaritas and ranch waters? Obviously. Consider this an easy-breezy answer to a delayed-onset tummy rumbling in the middle of a shopping expedition." - Jackie Gutierrez-Jones

We had a good time went in to our lunch date, food was good. We tried the verde enchilada and the fish taco and it was good. The tortilla chips are warm and delicious I guess we ate that the most plus the 3 types of sauce that comes with it was delicious too. Our server was great too he gave us all the recommendations. I highly recommend trying out the place:

An Unforgettable Dining Experience at Mesero – 10/10! From the moment you walk through the doors of Mesero, you know you’re in for something special. The atmosphere is such a vibe—warm, modern, and energetic without being overwhelming. The music was perfectly balanced, setting the tone just right without ever competing with conversation. Whether you’re out for a date night or grabbing dinner with friends, the ambiance truly elevates the whole experience. We were personally welcomed by managers Erik & Elvis, whose passion for hospitality shines through in every detail. Their personal invite and attention made us feel more like family than guests. That level of intentionality is rare—and unforgettable. Now let’s talk about the service. Our server Mariana was absolutely incredible—attentive, kind, and genuinely invested in making our meal amazing. She knew the menu inside and out, made thoughtful recommendations, and never missed a beat. Her warmth and professionalism really made the night stand out. And the food… WOW. We started with the Crèmaqueso, a creamy, flavorful dip that was gone way too fast. For entrées, the Carne Asada was grilled to perfection—tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The Pollo Tacos were equally fantastic, packed with vibrant spices and fresh toppings. The Tejanos Enchiladas were rich, comforting, and perfectly balanced. We washed it all down with their Strawberry Lemonade (with free refills! Yes, please!), which was refreshingly tart and sweet. And just when we thought we couldn’t eat another bite, the churros arrived—crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and hands down some of the best we’ve ever had. Mesero delivers on every level—vibe, service, and flavor. It’s clear that every person there cares deeply about the experience they’re creating. We left full, happy, and already planning our next visit. Thank you, Mesero! 10/10 recommend. We’ll absolutely be back.

Google
I have been looking for a new regular Mexican restaurant to eat at and Mesero is it. Food absolutely amazing, I would recommend the shrimp fajitas or the mole enchiladas. Drinks are delicious especially the pomegranate margarita. All of the sauce for the chips are absolutely incredible. Thank you Marlena for serving our crazy table. And desert was amazing, 5 milk cake.

The best Mexican food has arrived in Nashville! This is the first location outside of Texas and I'm so glad they chose Nashville. Amazing margaritas, chips and dips, traditional and innovative Mexican dishes. The mole sauce is outstanding. Must get the cinco leches cake! Welcome to Tennessee! Authentic Mexican food at its best!

We went here for a friend’s birthday lunch. For the atmosphere, food, and service, this was one of the best places in Nashville I have been. Jocelyne was the sweetest and most attentive server I have had in a long time! Drinks were fantastic, the salmon tacos were absolutely delicious, and all the staff was incredibly sweet. I cannot speak higher of this place and I will be recommending to everyone I know!

The food and atmosphere here is great! We’ve been a few times since it opened and all of our servers have been kind and helpful. We had Elena as our waitress tonight and she was excellent! Our waters were never empty and service was fast (which helped when our toddler started getting antsy.) We’ve been here multiple times on Sunday evenings and have always been seated immediately. I’m gluten free and have had the enchiladas verdes with white rice and refried beans a few times with no reaction.

Yelp
After reading so many mixed reviews, I was a little apprehensive to try this place. I was pleasantly surprised! We were seated almost immediately at 4:30 on Sunday. First of all, three interesting salsas came with homemade chips of substance and character. The most outstanding salsa was a green verde one with tomatillos, onions, cilantro, avocado, and a touch of Mexican cheese. I was thrilled to have seconds on all of that! I ordered brisket taco and a shrimp one. They came with a very fine julienned slaw and refillable beans. I first had the pinto beans and then refried black beans. My son got the chicken fajitas and added sour cream, cheese, and corn tortillas. Usually he doesn't like cooked peppers but these strips were still crispy. The service by Cassie was excellent. She was very attentive and helped us decide when we told her it was our first time there. It was my birthday and was hoping for a free dessert but they had discontinued that. Feeling badly about no complimentary dessert, Cassie presented me with a gift of more salsa and chips to take home. I read so many of the reviews here which seemed to be mixed. Some were not happy with the prices. If you look at the multitude of high end stores in the 12th avenue area, you would have to agree that the prices are average. I enjoyed the whole experience here although it is an area I don't frequent often.

Yelp
When my friend, Rachel, and I stepped into Mesero on a Friday night, we thought we were in for your average drink & chatty catch-up. That's not to say our expectations weren't high, they were, there was just no way of forecasting the levels to which we were about to ascend. I arrived full (like a total noob) but I was also full-y prepared to imbibe in a frozen margarita, as is my constitutional obligation as a Girl on a Friday. Upon taking our seats at the bar, we were greeted by the most iconic bartending duo I've ever come across: Kenzie and Dave. Together, they infused our night with laughter, warmth, friendliness and tequila - an unbeatable concoction. Kenzie, a Yelp appreciator & conversational paragon, was an instant pal, while Dave provided top-tier menu consultation. I actually never even held a menu, Dave just knowledgeably rattled off all the frozen margaritas I had to choose from - each somehow topping the next in its description. I ended up with the Mexican Candy - a frozen, SPICY, margarita. It was, without a shadow of doubt, the best margarita I've ever had. Sweet & cheery in flavor with the right kick of heat throughout, I want to toast to every life event with this drink in hand. Rachel ordered a couple tacos and she kindly let me try a nibble of each, the taste thoroughly convinced me I need to come hungry next time. And believe me, there will be a next time. You know how sometimes you need your faith restored in human connection? That happened for me tenfold at Mesero on Friday night - there simply aren't enough stars to rank such an experience.

Yelp
I kept hearing about this place and being from TX and raised in CA - wanted to see if it was worth the hype. It was mid. We were there on a Sunday for lunch, it was pretty empty. The food wasn't bad, it just wasn't amazing. The cheese dip Was cold and I had to ask if they'd mind heating it up. It was good though. Serviceable. I'd go back if someone was like hey this is where we're going, but given a chance, I'd choose elsewhere. Our sever was great though. Just seemed like average food.

Yelp
Having lived in TX for a short stint, I have a special place in my heart for all things Tex-Mex. Nashville has no shortage of tacos, fajitas, and nachos - but I'm always excited to see a new restaurant take on this fun fusion cuisine. Mesero is located in the beautiful 12 South neighborhood, and is situated right next to the new Henry restaurant. The entrance is actually on the third floor - but there's an elevated parking structure right behind the restaurant that makes access easy-peasy. A friend and I stopped into Mesero for a weekday lunch, and got there right when they opened. They weren't too busy yet - but I have a feeling they will be as more people find out about them. Starting off with complimentary chips and dips is always a win - and Mesero serves a unique trio of salsas. We also couldn't resist an order of the Guacamole Classico, which was light and limey, with just a hint of heat. The chips are thick and tasty too - and they pass the "break test" for denser dips like guac. Our server TJ was helpful and informative - walking us through the ins and outs of Mesero's expansive menu. We each ended up selecting an option from "Las Combinaciones" - I went with one Asada Taco, one "Cremaqueso" enchilada, refried black beans, and their green rice. For around $15, this is a great value with a lot of fun ways to customize your meal! My taco was flavorful and packed full of delectable, well-cooked steak. I also quite enjoyed the green rice, which is something I haven't tried elsewhere. The enchilada was a miss for me - although the filling was tasty, the cheese sauce on top was cold upon arriving at our table. Even still, that wouldn't deter me from returning and trying some of their other tasty looking menu options soon! I especially can't wait to sample some of their bar options.

Yelp
Mesero has truly brought an elevated Tex-Mex dining experience to Nashville! From the moment you walk in, the stylish ambiance sets the tone for a memorable meal. The hosting and service staff are absolutely top-notch--welcoming, attentive, and polished, ensuring every detail is just right. The menu is impressively expansive, offering something for everyone, but the tacos stand out as the real stars. Each bite is bursting with flavor, perfectly balanced, and beautifully presented. The slaw is another highlight--fresh, crisp, and packed with a tangy zest that pairs wonderfully with their dishes. While the cocktails didn't quite live up to our expectations, the overall experience more than made up for it. Mesero is an excellent choice for a special night out, blending upscale dining with the bold, comforting flavors of Tex-Mex. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
One of my new favorite Mexican restaurants in Nashville...and there are a lot to choose from. Food was incredible and unique, with wonderful portion sizes. When you arrive at your table, they bring hot homemade tortilla chips and a flight of 3 dips. Great amount of cocktail and drink options. Atmosphere is fun and chill. You can dress casual or dress up and match the vibe perfectly. Service was quick and easy.

Yelp
The Nashville foodie scene is certainly nothing to complain about. But if I'm being honest, this former Houstonian has missed the lack of authentic TexMex in Music City. But today is a new day, amigos!! Mesero is located in the vibrant 12S area, with valet parking around back at the parking garage. (Where self parking is also an option) IT IS FANTASTICO. The trio of complimentary dipping sauces and house made tortilla chips will set the tone for you. Then make sure you get a margarita. Amazing. Add a queso dip with spinach. A guacamole. And a few bacon wrapped shrimp. Then continue to your main dish... where the options are many. We chose the ribeye fajitas and the blackened salmon with vegetables. We could not have been more pleased. The staff is ever so delightful and enthusiastic. We were well cared for by District Manager Luis, Ricky, Eric, Elvis, and Ole. We loved it so much we are hosting our whole extended family there next week! Worth noting: they pour Rombauer Chardonnay by the glass. Mama's happy.

Yelp
Margaritas are great, I enjoyed the blueberry pineapple margarita. The variety of salsa's are flavorful, the green one was my favorite.

Yelp
We love THE Henry next door and we're excited for Mesero to open. We walked in and the place smelled weird like Hand sanitizer. Really strong and off putting. We sat down and were excited and the smell wasn't as strong. We sat at a table near the kitchen which was little annoying but we were fine. They brought chips and some sauces but no explanation - we asked someone and and still not really an explanation clearly of what they were --- ordered a few dishes and the food was OK at best. TRUST ME WE WANTED IT TO BE AMAZING !!! The think that we really crazy to us was that floor was carpeted and there were 3/5 people sweeping under tables - spraying cleaner on Tables talking loudly & standing around almost next to our tables. I Looked at my wife and was like where are we ?? Glad we tried it - I unfortunately don't think it will make it and we won't be back but I wish them well !!!!

Yelp
I've been here multiple times and it keeps getting better! Elvis, Ole, Erik, Luis the entire staff are great. Food is awesome and not like the average Mexican restaurant. Great upgrade to the neighborhood!

Yelp
Mesero in 12th South: A New Neighborhood Favorite I took my mom to Mesero for Sunday brunch, and we had an amazing experience! The drinks were absolutely fantastic--my mom enjoyed a flight of mimosas, and Duane and I both indulged in their delicious margaritas (two each, because they were that good!). The food was just as impressive. My mom had the French toast and loved every bite. Duane tried the redfish and couldn't stop raving about it. I went with the breakfast tacos, which were flavorful and satisfying. We all became completely obsessed with their salsa pachi pachi--seriously, don't miss it! Our server, TJ, was the absolute best. Attentive, friendly, and full of great recommendations, TJ made the experience even better. Beyond the great food, drinks, and service, the prices were reasonable, and it's clear that Mesero is a welcome addition to the 12th South neighborhood. I'm so glad they've joined the area--this spot is a definite must-try. Amazing!!!

Yelp
Our whole experience was so disappointing. We arrived at the time of our reservation and were asked if we wanted to sit on the patio. No, we did not. But we were then told we'd have to wait 25 minutes for our table so we reluctantly agreed. The patio is enclosed in plastic for the winter and is just a big unwelcoming space at this time of year. A server came by and dropped off some chips and some salsa/dips but did not say what the dips were or say that the dish was complimentary. We weren't even sure it was meant for us. A second server came by and said she guessed she would wait on us if no one else had. We ordered some apps and the server suggested the house made margaritas which we ordered. A long time passes and the apps finally arrive. We ask about the margaritas and she has completely forgotten about them. They later arrive by a different server and they are clearly the pre-mixed version our server warned us not to order. The apps were uninspiring. The flautas type dish had zero flavor. The frozen ones at Trader Joe's are more interesting. The queso was clumpy and not particularly warm. I will say the guacamole was good as were the tuna nachos but not enough to bring me back. We finished our apps and continued to wait for our server to reappear. Finally, we decided that based on the quality of the apps, we'd just leave. It was also freezing on the patio at this point because one of the employees lifted part of the plastic screen and cold air just kept rushing in. Everyone in the area was wearing their coats. It was a busy night, but come on. This is a chain. Surely, the chain has figured out how to run a busy restaurant by now. I live nearby and can't see a return trip in my future.

Yelp
Do. Not. Recommend. Had a reservation and they still told us it would be a 30 min wait it we didnt sit on the porch. Food was subpar and service was horrible, extremely unorganized. Dont wait your money or time.

Yelp
This is not your greasy hole in the wall mexican place. Fresh ingredients, great service and unique menu items. While some of the standard dishes are little different in terms of ingredients and presentation, they are delicious...and better than the original. My wife and I refer to it as fancy mexican, but it's not that expensive. The steak tacos are my favorite. My son loved the fried rice and my wife said the chicken tacos are great. The churros for desert are a must. The house margarita is the best in town.

Andrew U.

Yelp
I brought the wife and kids to Mesero after learning about their opening in 12th south and we all had an awesome time. Service was great and it never felt like we were waiting for anything. Drinks were delicious with a plethora of options. They started us out with complimentary chips and salsa trio which was a great way to begin the meal. We then got the nachos and fried rice (great kid meal options as well) and they were full of flavor and just the right portion sizes for us. We finished off with the cake which was out of this world. Plenty of TV's at the bar to watch games and overall fun and lively vibe throughout. Will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
My girlfriend got food poisoning within an hour of leaving - beef enchiladas - we won't be back.

Yelp
I have raved about Mesero since stumbling up it on a trip to a few years ago. Being a Nashville local, I was very excited to see it coming here. There's no shortage of taco & Mexican spots in town, which I love. But Mesero fills a void of elevated Tex-Mex. Superica is great and has a little more grit. Mesero is a little higher end and extensive. Example: Mesero's Ahi Tuna tacos which are respectable portion size and looked great on my wife's plate. She loved them. A lot of enchilada choices and can create your own filling and sauce. The tejas, crema w/ shrimp, and verde were all amazing. I do think there's room for improvement on some stuff. The duo app that had a white cheese dip (possibly the one w/ spinach & artichoke...not sure if that came w/ the duo) was pretty bland and room temp. The guac was great consistency & texture of fresh avocados but also a little bland. It came w/ a lime and there's salt on the table so I guess it's up to the patron to season to taste. ‍ All good. we got it right, was just surprising that both apps were so bland. Their website has pictures of every dish which is helpful in deciding which sauce and looking for inspiration. I'm glad to have a slightly upscale mexican option that also has an extensive kids menu w/ legit american cheeseburger and fresh chicken tenders to entice the kids if they aren't feeling mex but we are! The first visit was for lunch so we didn't get into the bar but I did notice the bartender is from a Taq del Sol and know he's passionate about tequila and there's an extensive drink menu. Look forward to making this part of the normal rotation. Lot's of tv's for sports and an ample patio for overlooking 12S on a good weather days. I can see me moving this from 4 to 5 stars after another visit or two. I usually snap pics but I dug straight in. Everything I saw is as appears on the website menu.

Q Q.

Yelp
The people here were very nice and I wish them the best, but unfortunately everything we ordered was simply bland. Nothing tasted bad per se - just boring, with zero heat and little flavor, a watered down facsimile of real Tex-Mex. Which is probably fine for most residents of this area, but for me the search for great Southwestern food in Nashville continues.

Macie C.

Yelp
The food and drinks were horrible. The vibe of the restaurant feels off. However, the server was very kind and was very attentive. I sadly will not go back.

sophie c.

Yelp
Food was not good and the ambience felt like a hotel lobby. I was really hopeful being a 12south resident but this was just below average. Sadly will not be returning.
