They have a few locations around KC, but these are the best bagels I've found in the midwest.

Loved this place from the second I walked in and I was not disappointed. The staff were great. Super chill and accommodating. The atmosphere was so cute and comfortable. But the bagels! OMG! Haven't had bagel that good since I moved from the easy coast. And whitefish salad and lox spread. I was in heaven. I may have to move to KC metro just to be able to go here more often!

Google
The atmosphere was like a sweet, small read a book or catch up with a friend kinda place! I loved the rosemary schmear on the rye bagel, looking forward to coming again with another book! Tried a few different things and it was really goodf!

Google
The best bagel in KC! Trust me, this is coming from a New Yorka, and I know good bagels.

Came around 11:25 and the line was out the door. Don't let that turn you away lines mean it's worth the wait. The restaurant is on the smaller side but has an inviting atmosphere. The smell of fresh coffee and bagels sounds like a great way to spend your Saturday morning. The line moved fast as the staff pushed out orders as they came. A regular recommended the Rosemary garlic smear on an everything bagel is the way to go they were not wrong. We also have a Smoked Nova Salmon and delicious. My childhood favorite cinnamon raisin with strawberry smear. The bagels chewy and are Loaded with smears! We also snagged an apple pie smear for our bagels at home. Next time we will have to try different combinations and come a little earlier.

Google
Talking about bagel heaven. The best bagels ever, my new favorite location to go and I have only been once. I found this one morning while walking, this will be my new go to location. So happy I found them.

Google
Cozy shop with the best bagels I’ve had in KC! Great selection of bagels, schmears, sandwiches and drinks too. They offer a few dairy free (vegan) schmears! The smell as you walk in sets the tone for a great morning! The bagels are perfect in every way and quite large. We will be sure to come back.

Google
Super easy to walk to if you’re in the downtown area. Cozy and welcoming. Delicious bagels and schmears. We got there later in the morning (10ish or so), so some options were no longer available as expected, but we went very happy with what we did get! Nice street view too.

Google
This is a lovely little spot on 39th street about 3 minutes away from KU Med. The bagel are very good, and the coffee is from The Roasterie. I love the Lox and Bagel. The location is quite charming and the service is quick and efficient.

Yelp
This bagel is meh. It is mid, at best. Is it better than the reasonable facsimiles passed off as bagels at places like Einstein or Panera, yes. Is it a great, amazing bagel - no. The everything bagel I had was soft. In fact, it had a split personality. The bottom of the bagel had that more egg shell, crunch, I want the whole bagel to have. The top half was soft. Mushy. It was almost as if the bottom wanted to be that New York water boiled bagel while the top was identifying as a sourdough bagel. This is not a bagel that will evoke memories of the bagel shop across from the train station on Long Island, with the red neon "hot bagels" sign glowing, while baskets of hot, freshly baked bagels are emptied into customer's brown bags. The everything seasoning was okay. It wasn't memorable. Plain cream cheese was just plain cream cheese. There is no cream cheese anywhere that will compare to Temp Tee. I appreciate the fact the 39th Street location was Kosher. I'm not a fan of the house but as I soon discovered, that was the vibe on 39th Street. If I'm in Kansas City again, would I come back? Maybe but I wouldn't go out of my way or make an effort to.

Yelp
This is what I love about Meshuggah. It's a quick breakfast to go. It's fairly inexpensive. And the best part, the bagels are outstanding. With the speedy service, I'll run to Meshuggah and grab bagels for the family on a weekend morning. There's plenty of seating to sit down and eat there too. The bialy is worth trying if you've never had one. My favorites are an everything bagel toasted with butter and a plain bagel with cinnamon shmear.

Yelp
Genuinely the best bagel I have ever had. Fresh, delicious, was thinking about when the next time I would visit as I was eating the bagel. This place is amazing. Pictured: everything bagel with vegan cream cheese. Vegan and vegetarian friendly

Yelp
We FINALLY got to try this cute little bagel shop on our last visit to Kansas City and boy were we impressed! We wanted to try it a year ago but it happened to be closed that day so when I saw that the place we were staying at was available this time around I wanted to be sure we got bagels before we left! I was eager to wake up at a decent time to make sure we had time to enjoy our bagels and head on our way to our next adventure. My boyfriend got an poppy seed bagel with lox, capers and , an everything bagel with jalapeno smear and I got the bialy bagel with lox, capers, and tomatoes and a chocolate chip bagel with cinnamon sugar smear. We started our morning with the hearty lox and bagels we ordered first and we were completely blown away by how delicious it was! We both consider these to be the best bagels we've ever enjoyed! The bagels were a great size and they were pretty generous with their portions! I absolutely love bagels with lox and will now forever hold this place dearly in my heart anytime we happen to be in the neighborhood and would like to enjoy this lovely meal. We later enjoyed our second bagel on our drive home and though it was eaten hours later they still hit the spot!! My chocolate chip bagel with cinnamon sugar smear was the perfect amount of sweetness without feeling like I'm eating a piece of sugary cake. My boyfriend enjoyed his savory everything bagel with the bit of spice from the jalapeno smear as well. It made for a great road trip meal!! This little spot is the perfect place to pick up an easy delicious breakfast, snack, or light meal. It got pretty busy while we were there but the staff managed the amount of people and the amount of orders swimmingly. They maintained their kindness throughout our visit and were able to get our orders to us in a timely matter. I'm already looking forward to our next KC visit and to hopefully get another bagel with lox!

Yelp
I may be biased because I love bagels but this place was located in a small house and has a homey feel with a variety of bagels and cream cheese. The server was nice and the bagel was fresh with enough cream cheese on both slices. I will definitely one back here to try other flavors and the prices were reasonable.

Yelp
I'd last reviewed this spot when it first opened, and was blown away by having real bagels in KC. Well flash forward seven years or so, and I'm still blown away by how good these bagels are! I literally wouldn't go anywhere else in town for bagels after the Meshuggah experience. For starters, they really come as close as possible to nailing the true, NYC style bagel. They are perfectly balanced in their chewiness, fluffiness, and flavor. I'm partial to the everything bagel with a big of plain schmear (although they're good enough to eat on their own without schmear.) Originally I had thought bagels had to be toasted, but not here.. these stand on their own just as they are, and the untoasted texture is perfection. One time, loading up before a bike trip, I also tried their cinnamon raisin bagel paired with cinnamon sugar schmear and it was delicious. Definitely on the sweeter side as expected, but good for a treat to change it up. I haven't branched out much to try the lox/salmon combos, but I'm sure they're good if that's your thing. This is definitely a special occasion thing for me, but I do love them when I have them, and highly recommend!

Yelp
BEST RYE BAGELS EVER.... there's not much more to say, just get a hundred bagels and call it a day!

Yelp
This place does not disappoint when it comes to bagels and schmears. Their Holiday schmears are incredible be sure to stop by for a delighted breakfast to start your day!

Yelp
Pastrami crust smoked salmon on an everything bagel with a chocolate chip bagel and strawberry cream cheese. It was so good. i would highly recommend this place.
google avatar

Greg C.

Yelp
Very cute bagel place, very clean, and nice decor! The bagels themselves were really good, and I am a picky bagel person. We got cinnamon raisin and everything bagels and they were soft, not rubbery, and have great flavor. Service was very quick, too. Would recommend for any bagel lovers out there.

Yelp
These bagels are perfection. Whenever I'm around 39th street in the morning, I have to stop by. I wake up early on weekends to make sure I can get a dozen before they sell out, and I don't wake up early for much. The bagels are fluffy inside with the perfect amount of chew. They have tons of flavor options, both sweet and savory. And they have tons of unique shmear options as well! I'm a sucker for the everything bagel with a rosemary garlic shmear! I recommend ordering a dozen, plus an individual bagel to enjoy for the road. You can get individual bagels with shmear and a few limited toppings, and you can order by the dozen. Online ordering is super convenient, otherwise order at the counter. There's a few tables inside to enjoy your bagel immediately! This place looks like a house from the outside, and there's like 3 parking spots out front. I wouldn't count on there being a spot on the weekends. I usually end up parking on a side street and walking over (and torturing myself with the smell of fresh bagels on the walk back to the car). My coworker Zach's favorite ice breaker question is "What's your favorite bagel in KC and why is it meshuggah?" and that sums up the love for this place.

Yelp
Bagels are topnotch. Space is adequate. Staff is very friendly. Schmears are delicious and the salmon sandwiches are good. Little too much cream cheese for me, but that could be a personal preference .
google avatar

Taylor N.

Yelp
Delicious! We split a sweet and savory bagel to try one of each. For sweet we did the cinnamon raisin bagel with strawberry smear which was good. For savory we did the bialy with garlic dill smear. It was very garlicky - which I like a lot. I highly recommend the bialy because it's a unique option with cooked onions in the middle. Service was friendly with a quick walk up ordering system. It was a fun Saturday morning spot!
google avatar

Yelp
We always get the garlic bagels, they are the best!! So good!! The everything bagel and salt bagels are good also. The cream cheese is homemade with lots of veggies in the veggie cream cheese. This place is so good!! They truly are NY/NJ style bagels and being from NY and NJ these really are the closest I've found to them.
google avatar

Yelp
So delicious! Very friendly and so very good! Highly recommend their bagels! Run don't walk to this place on 39th st! Sooooo good!

Yelp
My friend introduced me to Meshuggah Bagels when I treated her to a birthday breakfast earlier this month. What an absolutely DELIGHTFUL experience! The place is small--almost a converted home--and perfectly charming in its decor and simplicity. The staff is so friendly and helpful! Since it was my first visit, the young man behind the counter guided me through the menu, and I arrived at exactly what I wanted: an garlic bagel sandwich with smoked nova salmon, capers, and onions. YUMM!! I was instantly transported to my friends' home in Queens, New York, and stepping around the corner to their neighborhood bagel shop. My bagel sandwich was truly a slice of heaven, and the genuine article! I only wish my NYC friends could have tasted it. :-) I am sad that I've lived nearly 20 years in Kansas City and had no idea that Meshuggah Bagels existed! But those days are gone, and I will be a frequent customer from now on. Because, outside of New York City, I have never tasted a better bagel!! Thank you!! P.S.--My friend really enjoyed her bagel as well. And their coffee is really delicious, too!

Yelp
Really great bagels, I am glad I made a stop here during my stay in KC. Small place and small parking lot, but they were quick on getting my order ready.
google avatar

Mary K.

Yelp
Pricey for a cinnamon raisin bagel w butter. Didnt ask if i wanted toasted. Assembly line customer svc.
google avatar

Bob N.

Yelp
Small place but cozy. GREAT fresh bagels, best I've had in a long time! Great coffee served to complement.
google avatar

Emily K.

Yelp
Nice people but only okay bagels and pretty overpriced. I'd try again if in the area but was disappointed.
google avatar

Mark W.

Yelp
I needed me a bagel as DFW is lacking so far and boom KC has Meshuggah! I'm meshugah for them. Perfect everything bagel with a generous schmear and happy people. Next time I'm in KC will be Meshuggah again! Eat it!
google avatar

Bill N.

Yelp
Great choice of bagels. Made fresh. Service was fast. I had the plain bagel with salty lox as well as the pastrami nova salmon. Wow, they were good!
google avatar

Morgan J.

Yelp
Best bagels in KC! NYC style, boiled bagels. No need to toast them. My go to is the rye bagel with rosemary and garlic schmear. But I've had their onion, garlic, salt, and everything bagels and they are all great. I've also tried their bagel with salty lox which is great too. Their bagels are a good price and they're always fast!
google avatar

Amy W.

Yelp
I think this is the only place in the city where you can get a bialy. And it's a good one, too! It's such a treat to pop in for a toasted bialy smothered in butter. The staff is always helpful and lovely, and it's the kind of place I'd sit a while to enjoy my treat and a cup of coffee--but I'm usually on the go!
google avatar

Shaughnessy C.

Yelp
These bagels were legit! I've had bagels all over NYC and these would compete with any one of those shops! Fresh ingredients and tasty. Definitely worth a try. I'll certainly be returning.
google avatar

Melinda H.

Yelp
Love this place! Seriously the best bagels we have in KC! We used to order bagels & smoked salmon from a place in NYC until we found out Meshuhggah orders their salmon from them also!! It's so great to have that perfect NYC quality bagel right here in KC! They are soft & chewy on the inside & they have a bit of a crunchy shell on the outside. If you haven't tried these bagels & you think all bagels are created equally, give these a try. All bagels are NOT created equally, these are YUM!

Mark K.

Yelp
Authentic! Pretty much covers this bagelry (sic?)! NYC, Chicago, St.Louis, LA...etc. Nearest, I would say to any authentic Jewish Deli/Bakery. Thank you for being here!
google avatar

Gurpal H.

Yelp
Was up in KC for the Chiefs game with my sons and friend from college and his son. I was having some eye issues, couldn't see the menu board. My buddy ordered me something, it was probably the best bagel I have ever eaten in my life. The vengeance coffee, that was awesome as well!!
google avatar

Nicole D.

Yelp
Best bagels in KC, have been going there for years. Lots of bagel and cream cheese combinations. Always fresh. Service is impeccable.

David R.

Yelp
Just got back from New York, famed for their bagels. Went to at least 6 bagel shops. ABSOLUTELY NONE could touch Meshuggah Bagels for just the right chewiness, and the perfect crunch of the crusts when the bagels are toasted. These bagels are an absolute miracle, and they're ALL OURS! "Can't wait" for the Liberty store to (re)open!
google avatar

Greg H.

Yelp
Big props for this place having bialys which is a tough find in the Midwest. Service was fast and the bagels were big, warm, airy and cheap!
google avatar

Erica Rikki R.

Yelp
Every time I travel to KC I stop here!!! Everything bagel with the veggie cream cheese....add onion, capers, and tomato. . It gets busy on the weekends, but the line moves FAST. Be ready to order when you get to the counter and don't be "that person" that holds up the line with menu questions! It's literally right on the wall ‍‍
google avatar

Lauren A.

Yelp
Nice friendly atmosphere. The strawberry shmear is to die for!! I do wish the bagel was a bit warmer. I typically order the cinnamon raisin bagel. Tasty but I'd like more of the cinnamon taste and maybe a bit of sugar: Still one of my favorite places for a quick morning breakfast.
google avatar

Josepha H.

Yelp
Best bagels in the area! The Westport location is small and cozy with staff that's always really friendly. I recommend the lox w/ extras on an Everything bagel
google avatar

Lauren R.

Yelp
Absolutely the best bagel I've had in years hands down. Ntm vegan cream cheese, which was super yummy. The selection was awesome, friendly service, clean, and welcoming. We stayed in an airbnb above the 39th street location so it was great for breakfast. The only downside is no hot coffee. Which for mornings would make this top notch even if it was self serve hint hint..lol seriously though the smell is worth the stop in just saying.. heavenly
google avatar

Karen P.

Yelp
The Salt Bagel here at Meshuggah is my new favorite treat. Like a soft pretzel, but in bagel form topped with rock salt. Sooooo delicious- just like the ones I got when I was in school in NYC and haven't found outside of there since. A schmear of plain cream cheese completes it. The jalapeño cream cheese is also great on it. But ask for it 'light' or on the side, because they definitely give you more cream cheese than other place. Not a knock at all, but just FYI. They're still doing takeout only, and the line can get backed up. Don't go when you're in a big hurry.
google avatar

Stephanie K.

Yelp
Meshuggah bagels is my favorite bagel place hands down. They bagels are well made and the schemers are to die for. Schemers are made every morning fresh along with the bagels. The earlier the better to get there as they get busy. My favorites are the everything bagel and rosemary garlic schemers. They lather the schemer on too so there's lots of great taste to go around.

Cindy H.

Yelp
We love their salmon/cream cheese bagels. Helpful staff. Their sesame and poppy seed bagels are our favorites!
google avatar

Brett S.

Yelp
These were amazing bagels! Such a great way to start the day. I would absolutely get this for breakfast every morning I was in town.
google avatar

Charley B.

Yelp
I think my favorite thing about Meshuggah, is whenever I visit, most of the locals walk in wearing some sort of day after outfit. Hoodie, sweats and baseball cap. Work event tee, athletic shorts, pony tail and flip flops. You get the idea. Its my 'hood and I'll dress how I want to. Then I'm going to get some bagels and see if I can make it to noon. We've all been there. Most of us will make our way there again, some sooner than later. It's a quaint space. The main room has a couple of community tables and a counter along the wall with some stools. There's also a small area with some books and toys for the kids. Juice and other beverages are off to the side. The bagels and smears are good. I've tried a couple of them, but I usually go basic with a plain bagel and cream cheese. It works for me.
google avatar

Tyler R.

Yelp
The best bagel I've had so far! The crunchy exterior paired with the chewy, soft center is delicious! After I airfried it for a few minutes it took it to a new level! Highly recommend!!
google avatar

Kimberly L.

Yelp
Hands down the best (and maybe only?) bialy in Kansas City. I've missed my go-to New York-style bagel shop since leaving Chicago and was resigned to my new normal of "meh, they're okay" bagels. Driving down 39th, I noticed the sign for Meshuggah (the Yiddish for crazy) in the corner of my eye and nearly drove off the road. Could it be? Is it possible? I must not get my hopes up, I thought. Well, in no time at all, I was fressing* on a bialy in one hand and alternately chomping on an everything bagel in the other. Crusty on the outside, yeasty and chewy on the inside - these were made with love and care - with artisan flour, simple ingredients, and boiled before baked. They have a nice variety of tasty schmears (rosemary garlic is my fav) but I find I don't want to hide the deliciousness with extras. That being said, I am eager to sample their whitefish salad and will report back, especially if it's as on point as the baked goods.
google avatar

Lauren H.

Yelp
Bagels and cream cheese have long since been one of my favorite foods, and this place is the best of the best. The staff is so nice, servin up bagels with a side of compliments. So many unique and delicious sweet and savory cream cheeses! The bagels are absolutely perfect. Ideal consistency. Be sure to ask for it toasted when ordering if that's your thing! I got the Bialy (softer than other bagels, caramelized onions in the middle) with Garlic and Dill cream cheese (yes I brushed my teeth immediately after with that combo). Soooo so good. I wish they had more sandwich options, but I respect their craft that they've perfected. The location looks like a house with only 3 parking spaces, but if they're full do NOT take that as a sign to go to Einstein's or something. Already looking forward to going back tomorrow to be honest.

Marni L.

Yelp
Meshuggah NOT. waited forever for 2 bagels with cream cheese on the side. bagels for $10. bagels were hard and they wouldn't cut them for us. I've had a better bagel at Dunkin Donut and that's saying something.

K K.

Yelp
My husband daughter and I were visiting KC for the weekend...we lucked out finding this place! Went back two days in row. BEST bagels!!! Everything bagel is everything! Perfect amount of chewiness and flavor and awesome shmear. Hubby had vegan shmear and loved it. Great vibe, like an old house converted, homey rustic feeling.

Liz G.

Yelp
We went by to have the pastrami smoked nova salmon! It did not disappoint! Once we got inside we felt that we needed a half dozen bagels to take home and share!
google avatar

Laura G.

Yelp
These bagels are perfect! I was in KC for the holiday and looking for a legit bagel! This is the spot. The bagels are the perfect chewy, flavorful and fresh. They have a great variety - not overdoing it though - and a perfect variety of schmears. I got the salt bagel (again - the right amount of salt) with jalapeño schmear. The others in my party felt the same way. I had some hot coffee which they have some local flavors as well as some other drinks - I saw a cold brew I'll want to try next time. The atmosphere is adorable also - perfect for a bagel shop. The staff was good - kind of felt rushed but I could see that when it becomes busy. I wish you could eat inside but maybe someday that will return. For a legit bagel and coffee - hit up Meshuggah's!

Jai S.

Yelp
Tasty food and a cozy environment! I got the salmon on an everything bagel with tomato and cappers and it was delicious! Quick and friendly service!
google avatar

Azile Y.

Yelp
The bagels are great- best in KC. I got an everything with the garlic-dill schmear and the smoked salmon. Next time I will order the scallion and double the smoked salmon.
