"A roam through this colorful farmers’ market, just up a set of stairs from Ban Jelačić Square, is a feast for the senses—in fact, Dolac is often referred to as “the belly of Zagreb” by locals. On the upper outdoor level, zigzag between the iconic red umbrellas, stalls overflowing with fresh fruit and vegetables, and head-scarfed village women peddling free-range eggs and handmade corn bread. Then, head downstairs to the covered market section, where you’ll find butcher stalls, dried fruit stands, and artisanal sheep cheeses from Pag."

It's fun to walk around, of course if you want things there's a lot of vegetables, fruits, flowers and souvenirs. A few cafes line the market which are great for coffee or drinks. Many walkable streets in the vicinity.

We arrived in Zagreb with modest expectations, picturing a city still clinging to its past – old, grey, and somewhat stuck in the shadows of its former Eastern Bloc days. But what we found couldn't have been more different. Zagreb is a city reborn. The transformation is remarkable. The streets are vibrant and full of life, with outdoor restaurants and cafés on nearly every corner, buzzing with locals and travelers alike. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming – it feels like the whole city is out enjoying life together. Modern shops line the main streets, blending seamlessly with the charming old-world architecture. It’s a city where history and progress live side by side. You still catch glimpses of the past in the cobbled streets and historic facades, but there's a fresh energy that gives Zagreb a unique soul. What a wonderful surprise this city turned out to be – alive, modern, and full of character. We’ll definitely be back.

Great local food market starts from early morning till early afternoon (06:30-14:00). You can get fruit and veg by the kilo for just 2–3 euros. If you enjoy a good bargain, arrive around 13:30, you might find large quantities of produce for just €1 each. Everything is very fresh and high quality. There are also some great local restaurants nearby.

It's a local bazaar, but small and not that great or inviting like other bazaars. There are mostly food vendors like meat buttlers, fruits and vegetables, bakeries, florists, and other shops. It's not worth visiting for tourists.

A lovely market where you can find many souvenirs and local products. We had a great time here, browsing through the stalls and enjoying the beautiful products.

We wandered through this vibrant open market after visiting the Cathedral. It’s lively and full of color, offering a great selection of fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers, and all the typical market finds.

Opened in 1930, this market—often called the "belly of Zagreb"—offers a vivid glimpse into the city’s food culture and daily life. On the upper outdoor terrace, fresh fruits and vegetables are neatly arranged beneath the iconic red umbrellas, while a fish market operates inside the same level. Down below, along the lower street-level terrace, you'll find a colorful flower market, while the indoor lower level houses butcher shops, cheese vendors, and dried goods sellers. At the outdoor staircase stands the Kumica Barica statue, a tribute to the women who once brought their farm produce to sell at the market. For the best experience, visit early in the morning to avoid crowds and get the freshest goods. Many vendors accept only cash, so it’s a good idea to come prepared.

Also known as Farmers market. Fresh vegetables, flowers, fruits, nuts and honey are sold directly by the farmers. It's better go go early (before 9 am) to see the market in full swing. Many locals and tourists comes to this market for their daily needs and fresh produce
