Best Restaurants at Santana Row and Valley Fair in San Jose | Eater SF

"If you’re looking to impress your date, venture away from the main stretch to Meso, where the owner’s intention is to make you feel like you’re enjoying a meal along the shores of the Mediterranean. Expect a flatbread laden with artichokes, kasseri cheese, and tahini; creamy hummus studded with garbanzos alongside disks of fluffy, fresh-baked pita; and succulent lamb shank laid on a bed of couscous, all served on speckled ceramic dishes in a room with ocean-blue accents, mosaic tile floors and tabletops, and intricate latticework." - Johanna Harlow

1. The Branzino Fish - was too good - we ordered it twice on the same day! Must try! All the google reviews mentioned and it was worth it! 2. Nest Dessert - was also very good! 3. Meso’s Brick Chicken - was very well cooked and soft, it is mild in spices but flavourful but cannot beat the fish! 4. Mutton Flatbread- Mutton was very well cooked and tasty, perfect spices and taste. 6. Trio Dip - Okay 7. Mushroom flatbread - okaish 8. Brussel Sprouts - can skip 9. Sautéed Prawns - Very flavourful, perfectly cooked and juicy - will recommend. 10. Passion Fruit Ginger Soda Drink - Good - not too sweet- perfect for my taste. The only con is limited menu - only one chicken dish. Hospitality - was top notch, staff recommended good options to us and food was quickly served. Very transparent on timing and other details. We did not feel rushed even at a 8.45 PM reservation on a Friday night. Vibe was pretty good and lit!

Tried this place for the first time. The ambience was lovely and inviting, but the food was a bit underwhelming. We ordered the five-dip appetizer and Brussels sprouts, which was good. For the main course, we had the mushroom flatbread and green goddess pasta, both were just okay. Service felt a little rushed, as the mains came out right after the appetizers, but the staff was responsive and took them back when we mentioned the table was too crowded.

Google
Great food! Great vibe, especially if you take the outdoor seating on a nice day or evening. Service was average, but maybe a little slow. Because of the outdoor seating perhaps?? Here’s what we had. The Mezze Platter appetizer was three dips, hummus, tzatziki, and I forgot the third. These were served with soft pita bread and crispy fried bread chips. All good for mixing and matching. Then first main course was a whole fried fish. I believe it was grilled. Very tasty and quite a lot of meat, believe it or not. So good! And half chicken on a bed of greens. It sounds basic but it was moist and just enough salt to make it tasty. Excellent. We really enjoy the outdoor seating. It’s on the west de facing the top of Santana Row so it’s lively and energetic. It’s well kept and they even had more cushiony seats right next to us. Kind of like patio furniture. I feel the best times to come are spring and summer to get the entire vibe.

Google
Beautiful atmosphere inside and out. We sat outside and there were plenty of shady cozy spots. Service was excellent, very attentive wait staff who came to the table often to check in. The food was very tasty, and flavorful. Green eggs and lamb, was filling with the chili hot sauce it made it even better. The Brussel sprouts were cooked perfectly and have great flavor. The spritzer drinks were also very refreshing. I would come back for sure . The only thing that was a bit annoying was the online menu was not what was available, because we had dishes that we wanted to try based from the online menu and they were only available during the week. However the food and service made up for it.

We love coming here for date nights! My wife is vegan, and their menu is always packed with options she loves. Plus, their drink menu is worth checking out, and I’m a big fan of their Mediterranean-style steaks

Google
I was really impressed by this Mediterranean spot and I’m so happy we have it in the south Bay. The meatballs were to die for and all the dishes really complimented each other. The service is great. My only complaint as I don’t love how close the seat is. So maybe reserve and ask for a table not a both… otherwise great date night spot!

Google
wonderful Mediterranean restaurant with a great happy hour menu. We love their food and drinks, but it was a bit quiet in the afternoon when we went. So we love to come back to have a proper meal here.

Google
I’ve been to Meso a few times and always enjoyed the food—it’s consistently flavorful and well-prepared. The ambiance is also lovely, making it a great spot to catch up with friends or enjoy a nice dinner. However, the service has been hit or miss. Sometimes it’s attentive and smooth, but other times I’ve had to repeatedly ask for basic things, and the wait staff seemed distracted or slow to respond. I hope they can bring more consistency to the service, as the food definitely deserves it.

Yelp
This review is a long time coming! My husband and I have visited Meso so many times! We've come here with friends, with our puppy and dined in their patio, had our date lunches and diners here and it has always been a sweet experience service wise. Food wise, some visits were great and some not so much! We love the drinks here. Their passionfruit drink is on point! Their lamb flatbread is my favorite! The shrimps are buttery delicious. Ask for some extra bread on the side for the sauce. So yummy! For the mains, we stick to our usuals- Whole roast chicken, the Branzino and the Lamb Shank tagine double. My husband loves the lamb and gets it everytime. He's not a fan of couscous but tolerstes it with the fall off the bone lamb. Branzino has always been a hit. For fish lovers, this is honestly the best dish in the Bay Area. As for the chicken, I always get their roast chicken whole. The best roast chicken was served on a weekend dinner when we went there to dine with friends. When I ordered it for lunch one day, it was very dry and they changed the dish for me with the smallest branzino. That was disappointing! However, the roast chicken was perfect the first time I had it here for a weekend lunch. Their patio is dog friendly and I appreciate that since we sometimes like to hang around the Row and dine with our pup. Service has always been great and the new server in training also did a great job! The potatoes served on the side need improvement! They need seasoning. They are outright bland and get their flavor only from the sauce. They have no salt and it spoils the flavor of whatever is paired with it. We've had two deserts here, the nest and the portion was tiny; and sorbet which was great! I love Meso and I will keep coming back even if their menu never changes. Please work on the consistency in texture and flavor of the roast chicken and the potatoes on your menu.

Yelp
Came here for a group dinner and shared a few items. We got a flatbread, goddess pasta, the brick chicken, branzino, brussel sprouts, potatoes, and a few desserts. I have a lot of contrasting opinions on the main course and sides so couldn't fully enjoy them. The flavor is the chicken was good, but it was a little dry. The branzino was nice and crispy, but the greens on top of it were unbearably salty. The potatoes didn't have much texture going on with them. The saving part of the meal were the desserts. Pumpkin bread pudding was amazing the first bite with its super crunchy texture. The nest was also beautifully presented.

Yelp
The ambiance was great -- warm and inviting, with a beautifully lit tree that really sets the mood. (4/5) The food was a mix. The fish was excellent, and the labneh was absolutely heavenly. The falafel was just okay and a bit underwhelming, while the other two appetizers were too salty -- though mixing them with the labneh helped balance things out. 1/2 (2.5/5) The service was fine but not great. We were hardly checked on, and they forgot to bring us forks, but we made it through. (3/5) Beautiful setting and a few standout dishes, but inconsistent flavors and slow service keep it from being a top pick.

Yelp
The ambience of this restaurant is really unique and you feel transported to a different place. I really appreciate the attention to detail in terms of the interior design. I've tried the lamb shank and branzino both which I enjoyed a lot. It's a bummer the branzino doesn't come with any sides though especially for the price. Service was nothing special - my table was sticky and the waiter didn't take my menu after ordering. Overall I would recommend this restaurant for a date night or special occasion since the ambience is very nice and the prices are higher.

Yelp
Warmly greeted for our earlier than usual dinner reservation. Quentin was patient as we were trying to select our cocktails and appetizers while catching up with guests we haven't seen in a while. He made some awesome recommendations, including how much to order as we opted for an evening of family style dining, as it was everyone's first time at Meso. We wanted to try it all! The Old Fashioned satisfied my taste, but one other sent his back for a Passion Fruit Mojito, which he said was outstanding. We started with the Housemade Mezze Platter with extra pita and crudités. It went over well with the entire table and was gone in no time! For our shared entrees, we ordered the: 1) Mediterranean Branzino à la Plancha - tied for the Star of the show with the Lamb Shank Tagine. Some bones if you get away from the meatier filet portion, but very tasty and nicely seasoned. 2) Artichoke Ravioli - Nice and creamy with plenty of artichokes inside and out. 3) Vegan Moussaka - A tad on the bland side. 4) Roasted Eggplant and Salata Hara - One of my new favorite ways to enjoy eggplant! 5) Green Goddess Pasta - Pesto pasta, is all, but delicious. 6) Harissa Patatas Bravas - Small, flavorful tender potatoes; and 7) Double Lamb Shank Tagine. Very tender meat, not overly seasoned, but a nice portion, especially with the couscous. Again, it tied with the Branzino, IMO. And for dessert, the Dubai Chocolate Sundae. The menu says it serves 2-3, but honestly, I could easily consider it for one (me.) We ordered two, but could have easily ordered three. Quentin was available and attentive to our entire table of seven. The ambiance and decor was elegant casual. No dancers last night, if they still do that. A tad spendy, but an easy choice for date night or a special occasion. Meso was a pleasant find. I'm surprised it took us this long to discover it at Santana Row. It's tucked away on the south side near the Cinemark Theaters. We will definitely be back soon!

Yelp
The grilled sea bass is just excellent! Branzino. The fish is crispy outside and super tender inside. At the same time it's very flavorful. The sauce brought out the fish flavor with a different kick without overrun it. Truly a must try. We only have two people and we also ordered chicken waffle and a side of pita. We finished everything! Chicken waffle is also delicious. Chicken is crispy and not dry. Mochi waffle is chewy. Both are really good. Service is wonderful and decor is beautiful with a nice outdoor patio that's dog friendly.

Yelp
***USP: upscale Mediterranean restaurant with beautiful ambiance, located in the hip and happening Santana Row. ***AMBIANCE: indoor ambience is beautiful with a modern take on the traditional Mediterranean setting with tiles, arches and even a faux lit up olive tree which surprisingly didn't look tacky. ***FOOD: this is where I was left disappointed. We got the following- *Appetizer sampler:3.5/5: we got the three dips- hummus, smoked eggplant, red beet labneh. They came with some pita bread and chips. The hummus was thick. The smoked eggplant had smokiness but everything else fell flat in terms of flavor. The labneh was topped with some kind of sweet beet marmalade. Overall, though it was kind of decent, nothing got me stoked. *chicken kebab plate: 3/5: the chicken was flavorless and overcooked on the outside. The rice on the other hand was decent with nice fluffy separate grains but the flavor of saffron was overpowering. A little saffron goes a long way, so they need to be a little judicious with its use. *Mediterranean bowl: 3/5: this was just a glorified salad bowl with a little quinoa and chicken. The roasted or fried chickpeas stood out as they had a weird half cooked consistency.

Yelp
Went there for happy hour that rolled into dinner. The lemon drop-lavender cocktail was amazing. The meatball appetizer was a bit dry and over salted + 3 mini, not worth it.. The fried artichoke app was good--anything fried generally is. Beef loin was excellent and perfectly cooked with a good crust.

Yelp
Great location. Without dinner reservations we were able to find a table for 5. Our sever was attentive and friendly. The decor is relaxed and family friendly. We requested a booth however those had been reserved. The restaurant is well lit with an average noise level. We were able to hold a decent conversation without having to yell. The menu has great options with vegetarian dishes. My food allergies were acknowledged and accommodated. For the appetizer I recommend the meatballs and the cauliflower. Both were delicious and enough to share. I had the halibut which was okay. I would have preferred some sauce on it but that's my preference. We also ordered the prawns which I heard was good but the sauce was fantastic. I could not partake in the sauce but was told that it worked well on the halibut. We parked at a garage a few minutes away. I would recommend stopping by. Enjoy!

Yelp
Service 5/5: Mo did amazing. He was attentive and met all of our needs with efficiency. Great job! Ambiance 4/5: The room is nicely lit with the bright tree. Accents are well thought out. Appreciated the playlist and the volume of the music. Bathroom was not clean with bathroom tissue all over the floor. Food Turmeric Roasted Cauliflower 1/5: little flavor, small portion Falafel Bites 3.5/5: nothing special, small Harissa Seared Octopus 3/5: great taste, octopus cooked well, only 4 pieces of octopus in the whole plate for $22 Pickled vegetables 3.5/5: sour, good bite Za'atar Crusted Halibut 2.5/5: little seasoning, halibut dry A la Plancha 4/5: sauces paired well with the fish Harissa Patatas Bravas 3.5/5: cooked well, good portion Dubai chocolate sundae 4/5: chocolate was delicious, ample amount of crunchy kataifi spread, ice cream tasted great

Yelp
We were here due to my bf's step-dad being vegetarian and so we needed to pick a place that provided both options of meat and veg. There were 7 of us and we got a table outside. Weather was nice and it was well lit. Waiter was diligent. I got the Fig and Prosciutto flatbread with side of potatoes. Trio of dips to share. - Flatbread was solid, wished there was a little more prosciutto, but it was good. - Potatoes are always good! These were slightly crispy and the sauce just topped it off. - Trio of dips, were... dips... eggplant, beet with yogurt, hummus... house made pita was good. Drinks were good! Passionfruit mojito. Yum.

Yelp
Visited on a Saturday brunch hour(no reservations made) for 4 adults and was able to be seated quickly. I would say it's a great Mediterranean spot with fresh flavors and warm hospitality. The dishes were vibrant and well-seasoned, and the portions generous without feeling heavy. Clean and spacious atmosphere, friendly service, and great value!

Yelp
Made an appointment for 7 people for 2 birthdays and they got us right. I brought a bottle and the corkage fee was $25. The food is great! Lamb is not my cup of tea but my fam enjoyed it. I my fav was the brazino, the octopus and the mezze platter. A modern and chic atmosphere, good for large parties. We seated outside and the have heater over the table. It was warm and cozy.

Yelp
I once dined at the former Mediterranean spot in this very location a long time ago. Finally got to check out Meso with some friends, including fellow Yelper Harmanjeet K.! Make a rezzie because it's packed even on Thursday evening! Gorgeous interior with vibrantly lit trees smack dab in the middle of the place. Great service from our waiter and he made us feel at home. They accidentally brought over Brussel sprouts that we didn't order but comped it for us anyway. We had a feast! Drinks: *Passionfruit Mojito x3 *New Santorini *Hibiscus Spritz refresher Eats: *Wild Crispy Mushroom Flatbread *Spiced Lamb Flatbread *Roasted Beet Salad *Crispy Brussel Sprouts *Artichoke Ravioli *Feta Brined Chicken *Branzino "Plancha" style *Harissa Patatas Bravas Dessert: *Mango Sorbet *"The Nest" Dubai pistachio chocolate crumbles with ice cream The Brussel sprouts were definitely crispy! However, the mushroom flatbread was not. Good flavors though and texture was enjoyable. Beet salad was refreshing and I loved the creamy labneh yogurt underneath! The chicken!! It was moist, brined in feta, and so juicy! I got a half portion and almost finished everything. Soo happy I got that instead of just a kale Caesar with chicken (which probably would've been a good choice too, don't get me wrong). Patatas bravas were whole round golden potatoes in a red sauce topped with tangy lemon garlic tzatziki. Kinda wish they were halved so the inside could soak up the sauce flavors. Passionfruit mojito was my libation of choice. Also refreshing and not tart, just the right amount of sweet. The Nest was advertised as serving 2-3 people. Scoops of ice cream could've been bigger. The single scoop of mango sorbet portion was larger. I would come back for the laid-back vibe, feta brined chicken, crispy Brussel sprouts, and passionfruit mojito!

Yelp
Service: 7/10 was just okayyyy nothing special Drinks: passion fruit and lavender lemon drop 10/10 Falafel: 6/10 not my favorite but my friends liked it Squid app: 9/10 perfectly cooked Extremely pricey for 3 drinks and 2 apps Small menu! Would recommend coming before the menu switch

Yelp
Came to San Jose to visit a family friend and this was the place they recommended. The food was AMAZING we got the wagyu kabobs and the lamb shank. The service is great but very slow so plan on hanging out a while. Also the tap water or filtered water was really bad so we had to buy the bottled water. It made it okay because the ambiance is really nice. Overall a great experience and good company. I would definitely come here again.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised! I was initially worried this would be an aesthetic restaurant with underwhelming food, but I was incredibly impressed at how well everything was executed. For starters, the space is gorgeous and well-decorated, and conveniently located by one of the Santana Row parking garages. We started with the mezze platter with pita bread and chips. Each of the dips was very unique and the pita chips were addicting -- I could probably eat a whole bowl. The octopus was also tender and paired perfectly with some gently cooked potatoes and tangy yogurt. And the star of the show! We ordered a single piece of lamb shank but received two. When we flagged a staff member down to clarify we only ordered a single, they let us know that the original piece was on the smaller side so they went ahead and gave us two -- such great attention to detail and service! This lamb was sooooo tender and literally fell apart when pushed around with a spoon. I'm surprised they were even able to plate it while maintaining it's shape! It had a lovely balance of fat too which added tons of flavor and made each bite super unctious. The couscous base added some much-needed carbs to contrast the savory lamb, and was also the perfect vessel for the ratatouille sauce. Definitely coming again!

Yelp
FLAVOR (4/5): I don't usually eat mediterranean food but it was pretty good here! Falafel was crispy, steak was a bit charred but the sauce that went with it was amazing. INSTAGRAM WORTHY (5/5): The restaurant is gorgeous inside and out. The outside is the tail end of Santana Row and the interior is tasteful decorated. The bar area looks super cute and we sat under this tree that was lit up in the middle of the restaurant. SERVICE (4/5): Made reservations and they let us sit a bit later because we wanted to take pictures outside. For a large party they took decent care of us! TAKEAWAYS: Great spot for a date or girls celebration.

Yelp
Beautifully designed Mediterranean restaurant. Love the bar area. The ambiance alone is a reason to visit. The menu is simple yet fresh. Loved the array of vegetable-forward dishes. I ordered the Turmeric Cauliflower and the Brussels Sprouts. The cauliflower was fantastic, although I would have enjoyed it better with a bed of hummus or a heavier purée rather than just plain yogurt. The Brussels sprouts were perfectly crisp; the accompanying cilantro dipping sauce was zesty, tangy, and oh so delicious! Looking forward to my next visit!

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. Highly recommend making reservations ahead of time. My first visit was as a walk in and it made the experience start off rough. Food is incredible. Highly recommend the pickled vegetables, shrimp and olives. After a few visits, I do feel the service is a bit hit or miss. The place itself is overall beautiful and clean.

Yelp
Wonderful dinner to celebrate the last night of our honeymoon highlighted by excellent service from Gustavo! We arrived at 9pm to enjoy an outdoor Mediterranean dinner, and brought our dog along for the night. The outdoor area is nicely lit with views of Santana Row and plenty of heaters to keep you warm. Gustavo welcomed my wife and I with a toast of champagne to celebrate being newlyweds. We decided to share a plethora of appetizers since neither of us were super hungry. The Brussels sprouts were excellent, crispy with just the right amount of salt, and paired with a nice feta sauce. Our housemade mezze platter included a red beet Labneh, garlic Tzatziki, and Hummus. All 3 were excellent, my personal favorite was the garlic tzatziki which had the right amount of garlic and still tasted refreshing. We also enjoyed the Falafel (crispy and WARM) along with their wagyu beef shish kebab (excellent). We paired our appetizer buffet with a glass each of Charles Krug Sauvignon Blanc. Gustavo capped off our night with a complimentary custard dessert. His service and kindness truly made us feel extra special on our romantic evening. Meso Modern Mediterranean is a must visit for anyone in the San Jose area!

Yelp
Been meaning to come here for a while and had the opportunity to dine here on a Friday night for date night. The restaurant had a great cocktail menu and their dinner menu was delicious. We ordered a bunch of appetizers and main dishes to share with the table. Our favorites were the meatball and the whole chicken! Although everything was delicious. I did take off one star simply because we went there while they were also hosting a welcome party for a wedding and the service was very slow. Other than that, we did enjoy the drinks and food.

Yelp
This restaurant is very aesthetic and the staff was very kind, but unfortunately the food missed the mark for me. We ordered the wagyu shish kababs, harissa octopus, crispy brussel sprouts and the crusted halibut to share. The brussel sprouts were probably the best item we ordered; they were crispy and complemented well by the feta sauce. The wagyu was very tender, but lacked flavor; the octopus was a little chewy, whereas I would've personally preferred something more charred on the outside and soft on the inside; and the halibut really didn't feel crusted or have much flavor either. However, we did really enjoy the white and red wine selections. I think there's a great variety on the menu for both small and main plates, but the flavors were mild at best and overall pretty underwhelming.

Yelp
Service was top notch! Several different staff members popped by to check on us and see if we needed anything. Had the vegan moussaka, papas bravas, beet salad, cauliflower and dip trio. Hard times choose a favorite between the beet salad, cauliflower and dips. They were all fabulous! The moussaka wasn't what I was expecting but probably because I didn't look closely at the description. Great location at the end of Santana row. Went for an early dinner so there was plenty of parking but I'm sure it gets busy.

Yelp
Stunning interior!! Got the Chicken Sharwma, thought it was delicious and had a side of crispy chips with hummus. Servers were friendly, always smiling and checking on us. Definitely think the interior is the selling point here though, on top of an amazing location to take a break from all your shopping, you have a beautiful view.

Yelp
I went for lunch here on a weekday ( Friday ). The ambience was lovely but it's pricey . You can park in one of the garages of Santana row. Our server was friendly and helped us choose the dishes . We ordered : HOUSEMADE MEZZE PLATTER Espresso martini Lamb shank Passion fruit mojito Spice is nice Forgot to take the picture of lamb shank but I found it to be less flavorful than expected but drinks were great . Not sure if I would go again .

Yelp
Brunch was decent. We got there right when they opened at 1130am and it filled in over the 90 minutes we were there. Service left something to be desired. It took us asking to get empty cocktail glasses removed after 2 bussers and our server didn't pick them up. They also kept asking us several times if we wanted to order more food. I understand it's share style but for brunch we both ordered entrees and it felt pushy. Shakshuka was flavorful. The benedict needed either textural or fresh component. They did warn us the side of Yukon potatoes was not available. Looking at the photos of Benedict in the past, the dish included that. I feel the server should have been straightforward that the Benedict was missing a substantial component. Cocktails were pretty tasty but slow to come out. Might try it for dinner but nothing was super special.

Yelp
Came for dinner to order a few items off the of happy hour menu and main menu. Portions are on the smaller side, but pricey. We ordered many different dishes for a party of 4 to share but didn't feel that full towards the end of dinner. Drinks were delicious - recommend ordering the lavender lemon drop. Mezze platter was not great - all of the dips kind of tasted the same. I think smaller restaurants do this better. Out of all the dishes, the lamb shank tagine and turmeric roasted cauliflower were the favorites. The service was great in getting refills on our drinks and we didn't have to wait long for the food. The restaurant is spacious - would be great for large parties or romantic dates.

Yelp
Meso is a bustling Mediterranean restaurant located in Santana Row. Here are the details! Food: Branzino: 5/5 Kebab 5/5 Chicken 2/5 Octopus 3/5 Cauliflower 4/5 Service: 2/5 Server pretty much ignored us for the most part, and we had to ask for many things such as water refills, check, to go boxes, sides, and even the complementary dessert. Although I respect the hustle of trying to upsell, the server came off in a way that was almost pushy. The wait time for things we requested was pretty long. Ambiance: 5/5 and what you would expect Overall I would like to see improvements for the food and service. Some great tasting things but for the whole chicken to be a dud at $50 an order is crazy. Definitely do not get

Yelp
Meso has a great location in Santana Row. Close to parking lots and across from Zazil, when they play live music. Sitting at Meso, you can hear the music but also be able to talk. There is water fountain across from the restaurant- very vaca vibes. 5/5 for their decor inside and the outdoor seating. The food is amazing! And the cocktails are awesome / I always enjoy the lavender lemon drop. The octopus and batata bravas is very tasty. They beet salad and red beet labneh are yum! I have enjoyed their lamb dishes as well. 5/5 for their food and drinks. They have very nice and polite servers. They kept filling up our glasses of water. I really wanted to have a harissa spicy sauce with my meal, but I was not able to communicate effectively. We got some aioli and some other red oily sauce. They landed up charging for the aioli, which seemed strange / they have never done that before. I have been several times to Meso and it never disappoints.

Yelp
Food here was alright... the standout was the mezze which was pretty delicious with a lot of choices. I got the lamb and it was alright, heavy rosemary flavor. This place feels more for a corporate event than a comfortable restaurant... service was nice and interior is very nicely decorated!

Yelp
Highlight: If I was a bird, "The Nest" would be my home! That dessert plate is now in my top favorites. It is not too sweet and it is filled with flavors and textures. You have three scoops of housemade ice cream or sorbet on top of mixed piles of dark chocolate, pistachio, and crispy kataifi. You have different textures and flavors and you can eat them different ways - one part at a time or mixing them together. Each scoop is satisfying. Prior to dessert (haha), we tried Shakshuka from their brunch menu, and some small plates: charred eggplant and housemade mezze platter. The Shakshuka was good. It was slightly different from other Shakshukas I've tried. It's more saucy and no tomato chunks. It also tastes smoky, but with less acidity, compared to the ones I've tried before. It's different, but it's also good. The Charred Eggplant was delicious. It was nicely seasoned and the pomegranate gives it a slight contrast in texture from the mushy eggplant. For the Mezze plate, we had 3 dips: humus, garlic tzatziki, and smoked eggplant. They were all good. It comes with Pita Bread and Chips. The chips were a bit more salty and hard to bite than I'm used to. The dip helps tone down the saltiness. Also got the sparkling lavender lemonade for the drink. It was a light and refreshing drink in between bites of the flavorful and yummy food. The restaurant is spacious and has good natural light indoors. It has a cozy ambiance. They also have patio seating. The staff were helpful in explaining some of the dishes from the menu and checks on us from time to time. Overall it was a good brunch experience. The dessert is highly recommended. The price seems reasonable given the location and the ambiance.

Yelp
I had my birthday dinner here and it did not disappoint. The interior is so cute and the dishes delivered. My favorites of the night were the lamb, the fish and the potatoes. The lamb was fall off the bone tender and the fish was tender. Service was great and polite. This would be good a cute date spot or classy dinner.

Yelp
We were a large party of 9 adults and 4 kids and wanted to celebrate my husband's birthday. I had once walked through this restaurant while at Santana Row and the decor looked amazing with tree in the middle, lights, nice lamps etc. I called and they didnt have any availability. Someone later reached back and mentioned that they can accommodate us in their private room at 7 pm. I agreed and then later called to change it to 7:15 pm as we were going to be late. I gave 3 hours advance notice about arriving at 7:15 pm and they agreed. I arrived with most of my party at 7:25 pm and the server was gesturing neck slicing to us saying that we would've lost our table as this was reserved since 7 pm. Now, there clearly was miscommunication between the server and the person taking reservations about the update on 7:15 pm arrival. There is a 15 minute grace period and we arrived within that. We are large party, celebrating birthday so bill was going to be pretty fat, so instead of inviting us to get seated, it kind of turned us off. We let them know about this there as well. The drinks were really good, food was delicious. We over-ordered but were able to take the left overs home. They waived the cake cutting fee for us because of what happened earlier. They mentioned it was a private room, but even upon requesting, they did not fold the doors and make it an actual private room. We were still a part of the large seating area that they have. Overall, barring the initial greeting, it was a good experience, but I will think twice next time before coming with a large party.

Yelp
Don't come here on your own dime. Food is just ok, portion is small. You're paying for the location. The decor is quite modern but has a quite cold atmosphere. We were seated pretty quickly. We got the 5 scoop sampler, shish kabab, lamb shank and the beets salad. The sampler and salad was great, but calling it a salad is bit of a stretch. There was little greens and mostly yogurt. The lamshank was tasty and well cooked. But the kabok was disappointing. It was one skewer of beef without anythibg to go with. It was undercooked and very chewy. We asked for more flat bread and they charged 1.5 per. The most frustrating thing was a 20min wait for 2 scoops of ice cream.

Yelp
When I originally looked at the menu, I wasn't too interested. But I am so glad I gave this restaurant a chance. The flavor profile of these dishes was amazing!!! I ordered the warm feta, was amazing and garlicky with olive oil. I ordered the feta brined half chicken and it was lying on a bed of arugula and red yogurt with croutons (I almost licked the plate clean)!! Ambiance was beautiful and there was live music across the street. Will definitely be back!!!

Yelp
We had a reservation for Valentine's Day and were taken care of promptly. We felt very accommodated and a great experience being served. Our server had a Polaroid camera and printed some photos to capture our special day. We hand the lamb shank, beets salad, lamb flatbread, and sirloin steak. All the flavors were very fresh with layers of tastiness!

Yelp
I went on Valentine's day and they had the special menu course but we wanted to do a la carte instead to pick our own food. The food was amazing!!! I love how fresh the mediterranean food was. It felt healthy in a good way too. The lady who served us was superrrr friendly the whole time and cheerful! She carried a polaroid camera around so we got to take a picture at the table to take home as a memory :) This was super thoughtful! The beet salad gave me a new perspective on beets, they were super soft and yummy and paired well with the olive oil and yogurt sauce. The spiced lamb flatbread was good but it wasn't a must eat for me. The lamb shank was juicy and slid right off the bone, that's how you know it's super tender! I really enjoyed this with the couscous. This is their staple menu item. The beef sirloin steak was the highlight. This is a rotating menu item and I've never had it with the sauce it was served with before. I didn't know what it was but it was a refreshing experience and I'd recommend getting this. These were all shareable. The place inside was cozy! I'd recommend to any mediterranean food lovers!!!!

Yelp
Had a chance to try Meso today with a friend and had a really nice experience. We ended up going during happy hour and sitting at the bar which was really nice. The interior here is very nice so definitely worth checking out and the food was also yummy. The service was pretty fast and had no complaints. For food we tried: * Lavender lemon drop - this was really tasty and the perfect amount of strong. The drink was also presented very well * Falafels - this was nice and came with a plate of 3 with a yogurt sauce which was really nice * Meatballs - I felt like the sauce for these wasnt really good and the meat smelled a little gamey so would skip next time * halibut taco - this was cripsy and really yummy, especially the green sauce on top was nice * Kofte taco- this was pretty yummy also and i felt the meat was well seasoned Overall, good experience and would go back!

Yelp
The dishes here are fresh and change based on seasonal vegetables, which I really appreciate. I love that they use what's in season--it adds to the quality and flavor. The presentation is absolutely gorgeous, and the pricing reflects that level of detail. The restaurant can get pretty packed since it's located at the end of Santana Row, but you can always make a reservation to secure a spot. The interior is just as stunning as the food, creating a beautiful dining atmosphere. Overall, it's a fantastic spot for a gathering if you enjoy high-end Mediterranean cuisine!

Yelp
Very tasty and fresh! I think the only reason I am rating three stars is due to the slow service (which we had a massive group so I can't blame them much for that) alongside a lack of being able to eat much. I only had the hummus, rice, pasta, and some small bread bites. We had a fixed menu so it was hard to get something other than what was initially picked for us. But I think the interior was quite beautiful, the servers were very attentive, and from the food I ate, it was very tasty. I hope to attend Meso Mediterranean again to try other dishes!

Yelp
VERY BAD SERVICE & LUKE WARM/COLD FOOD. We came here this past weekend and had awful, unfriendly service. Our table was purposely ignored entirely and given luke warm/cold food. Sad to say I used to LOVE this place but not anymore. I honestly can't believe they permit such awful service. We visited on a Saturday and were seated right away. They gave us a lovely booth for two. The decor, music, and atmosphere is absolutely lovely and we were looking forward to a very nice dining experience. Too bad we were given the EXACT OPPOSITE. In the beginning our server was friendly, funny, and helpful. He was charming and even took photos for us. We ordered drinks and an appetizer to start. We were talking and enjoying our appetizer of the Sautéed Prawns with some pita bread, they're delicious! Definitely my favorite thing here so far. After talking for about 20-30 minutes, we realized our server had completely forgotten us and never came back to take our food order. Oddly enough the tables on both sides of us (that arrived 10-15 after us) had already gotten all of their food, drinks, and everything.. Strange. Our server forgot about us but attended to everyone around us... Finally when a busser came to take away our empty appetizer dishes. I asked if he could please send someone to take our order. We were literally starving. He asked who and we said, "we don't know his name but he is a bald guy." The busser sent over the Manager instead. The manager came to take our order on a paper with a pen. Thank you. Shortly after our server came running over to take our order. He was all sweaty and clearly flustered. I understand being busy and having the responsibility of different tables, but all we wanted was to just take our food order we were waiting for over 30+ minutes. Everyone around us had food and we were starving at the table... Anyway he took our order and we were happy to continue our conversation like nothing happened. No big deal right? WRONG because when our food arrived... it was NOT hot or fresh at all.. but the food we received was LUKE WARM and cold. I can't help but feel like they left our food to sit out until it was nolonger fresh on purpose... Who delivers a lukewarm New York Strip over very cold dressing??? WEIRD. I ordered the Lamb Shank and it was quite lovely but also not as hot and fresh as it should be. It was very moist and had a very nice savory flavor to it. BUT since the food was more on lukewarm side, not hot and fresh I didn't enjoy it much sadly. We also got the New York Strip, which I think we would've loved if it hadn't been LUKEWARM as well. It is VERY STRANGE to receive a steak that is not even hot or very warm at all. I'm not sure if the bottom is supposed to be actually COLD. Is it? The bottom dressing was cold like out of a refrigerator.. The steak was cooked perfectly, but they clearly waited a LONG time to bring the food to us for some odd reason because is it luke warm?? Not hot at all. At this point it felt like we were given BAD SERVICE on PURPOSE. Our experience was very uncomfortable with the server because honestly we could have easily gotten over the fact that he forgot to take our order.. BUT it was the fact that he was clearly UPSET with us for asking for someone else's help. He was no longer smiling or talking to us at all and he never checked back on us. He checked on everyone around us at least 3/4 times while NOT checking on us. It was deliberate and very unprofessional. The server finally came back towards the end to take away an empty plate, but said nothing to us. He was so awkward and weird after we asked for someone else's help. Even at the end, the server never came back to check on us. A tall manager (or worker) lady came and asked if we needed anything. We got the check from her and paid the bill with her as well. Not our server. We decided that we would still tip him even though he purposely treated us unkindly and regardless of the VERY BAD service we received and weird luke warm food.. We both agreed that we are never coming back here due to how unprofessional the server was and the fact that I honestly think they gave us lukewarm + cold sauce on purpose. Absolutely AWFUL service. Honestly if he would've just apologized and taken our order and given us hot food, we would've forgotten about the fact that he forgot to take our order in the first place. But the fact that he purposely helped everyone around us and ignored our table entirely ON PURPOSE and then we ended up with cold/lukewarm food is very unacceptable and unprofessional.

Yelp
Honestly the best octopus ever. It was super soft and juicy, not dry at all. I also loved the cornbread in the Benedict, such a nice touch. The lamb was good too, but a bit too spicy for me. Food-wise, I would definitely recommend this place. I chose to sit outside because I like facing Santana Row, but the table outside wasn't very clean. The lighting made the stain on the table really noticeable, which was a bit disappointing. But overall, I'd still recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
Good ambiance , amazing location, good service , full bar and tasty food. They have very good vegetarian options as well. Food quality was really good. We ordered drinks, falafel bits, flatbread, cauliflower appetizers and potato side dish and finished with sundaes . Except Falafel I liked everything.

Yelp
Absolutely love this spot. I've been twice - once for a work dinner and once with family for a birthday. The service is exceptional - I had Marco as my server both times and he is extremely kind, knowledgeable, and attentive! The decor on the walls is light and exotic, and adds a nice touch to the feel of the restaurant. Now the food, is absolutely incredible. We got the warm marinated feta with garlic - a must try!!! The lamb shank was one of the most flavorful and melt-in-your-mouth meats I've ever had!! Highly recommend. Will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
My friends and I came here to celebrate my friend's birthday on a Tuesday. We had a reservation for 7 people, and the initial group was seated before all of us arrived. Food: I tried the following items: Dip Trip - The dips were good! I wish more bread or pita was given to eat with the dips. Brussel Sprouts - These were roasted perfectly and tasted great Gnocchi - Gnocchi was fluffy and flavorful. I would order this again for sure. Roasted Potatoes - These were pretty standard but good nonetheless. My friends ordered a number of other items (ones I cannot eat) and seemed to enjoy the food! Service: Service was quite lovely and friendly. Our main server was super helpful. Our runners and others were also friendly. Our food came out promptly with our appetizers coming out first, and our entrees followed in a timely but not rushed manner. TL;DR - Good mediterranean food with good service

Yelp
First time in San Jose and this place really set the bar high. The food is truly exceptional- you simply cannot go wrong ordering anything on the menu. Everything was expertly crafted and every detail seemed to be thought out well. Their cocktails are refreshing and perfectly sweet. I got a passion fruit mojito and really enjoyed it. For food, our favorites were the trio of dips and the chicken pita. Trio of dips came pita chips and pita bread but the dip that stood out of the three was the red beet labneh. Chicken pita was packed with tons of flavor and a generous amount of chicken. The chicken was so juicy. We also ordered the wagyu shish kebab and that one was just okay. I wish it would have been a bit more tender. The lamb dish was huge and it could have easily fed 5 people. It was so decadent. Definitely coming back and happy to try other cocktails and food on the menu.

Yelp
We went here for my mom's birthday after seeing the high ratings, it absolutely lived up to the hype! The food here is exquisite, very unique flavors and perfect portion sizes. The New York strip steak was some of the best I've had, the flavor combination strikes the right balance between fragrant and savory. Our server Christian took great care of us and made us feel comfortable and excited to be there. We sat outside in the heaters, but inside has an incredible dining room with a beautiful furnishings. Flat out 5 star experience, highly recommended!
