Best Restaurants at Santana Row and Valley Fair in San Jose | Eater SF

"If you’re looking to impress your date, venture away from the main stretch to Meso, where the owner’s intention is to make you feel like you’re enjoying a meal along the shores of the Mediterranean. Expect a flatbread laden with artichokes, kasseri cheese, and tahini; creamy hummus studded with garbanzos alongside disks of fluffy, fresh-baked pita; and succulent lamb shank laid on a bed of couscous, all served on speckled ceramic dishes in a room with ocean-blue accents, mosaic tile floors and tabletops, and intricate latticework." - Johanna Harlow

1. The Branzino Fish - was too good - we ordered it twice on the same day! Must try! All the google reviews mentioned and it was worth it! 2. Nest Dessert - was also very good! 3. Meso’s Brick Chicken - was very well cooked and soft, it is mild in spices but flavourful but cannot beat the fish! 4. Mutton Flatbread- Mutton was very well cooked and tasty, perfect spices and taste. 6. Trio Dip - Okay 7. Mushroom flatbread - okaish 8. Brussel Sprouts - can skip 9. Sautéed Prawns - Very flavourful, perfectly cooked and juicy - will recommend. 10. Passion Fruit Ginger Soda Drink - Good - not too sweet- perfect for my taste. The only con is limited menu - only one chicken dish. Hospitality - was top notch, staff recommended good options to us and food was quickly served. Very transparent on timing and other details. We did not feel rushed even at a 8.45 PM reservation on a Friday night. Vibe was pretty good and lit!

Tried this place for the first time. The ambience was lovely and inviting, but the food was a bit underwhelming. We ordered the five-dip appetizer and Brussels sprouts, which was good. For the main course, we had the mushroom flatbread and green goddess pasta, both were just okay. Service felt a little rushed, as the mains came out right after the appetizers, but the staff was responsive and took them back when we mentioned the table was too crowded.

I’ve been to Meso a few times and always enjoyed the food—it’s consistently flavorful and well-prepared. The ambiance is also lovely, making it a great spot to catch up with friends or enjoy a nice dinner. However, the service has been hit or miss. Sometimes it’s attentive and smooth, but other times I’ve had to repeatedly ask for basic things, and the wait staff seemed distracted or slow to respond. I hope they can bring more consistency to the service, as the food definitely deserves it.

I was really impressed by this Mediterranean spot and I’m so happy we have it in the south Bay. The meatballs were to die for and all the dishes really complimented each other. The service is great. My only complaint as I don’t love how close the seat is. So maybe reserve and ask for a table not a both… otherwise great date night spot!

Google
wonderful Mediterranean restaurant with a great happy hour menu. We love their food and drinks, but it was a bit quiet in the afternoon when we went. So we love to come back to have a proper meal here.

Been here many times and loved the vibe and food. Liked that there were many options and felafel was great. Recently found out it’s fried in same oil as sea food, and veggie food is cross contaminated. Suddenly clean vegetation and vegan options dwindled. I still like the desert and drinks. Ok to come rarely but not my go to anymore.

Google
It’s a beautiful space and interior, items that we ordered were so-so; I took 1 star away for lack of flavors and 1 for using too much oil. I appreciate the generosity and understand that usually a little more oil makes food taste more delicious but there should be a line… It was impossible to eat the charred eggplant is was soaked in so much oil. My sister said it her chicken pita was okay but she wouldn’t come back. I’m grateful that they offer one plant-based main course which is vegan pappardelle but the recipe needs more developing flavor-wise. I didn’t try falafel and hummus because these items are easy to get/make. While staff is friendly the service was not attentive given there were only couple other tables — I flashed a server and he brought a check but never came to pick up a payment. We ended up going up and paying at the door.

Extremely Disappointing Experience - chef NEEDS to be changed! We were genuinely excited to try Meso, as we’re huge fans of Mediterranean cuisine, and the fact that it’s halal was an added bonus. Based on the ambiance and the menu, our expectations were high. Unfortunately, what followed was the worst dining experience we've had during our month-long trip to the Bay Area. We ordered several dishes to get a good sampling of the menu, including: Lamb Shank Tagine, Wagyu Shish Kabab, Beef and Lamb Meatballs, Spiced Lamb Flatbread, Feta Brined Chicken and Zaatar Crusted Halibut To our absolute shock, every single dish was completely devoid of seasoning. I repeat: not one dish had a proper amount of salt-or any flavor at all. It honestly felt like the kitchen forgot the concept of seasoning altogether. It's one thing if one dish is under-seasoned, but for every item on the table to taste bland and flat? That points to serious issues in the kitchen. The meatballs were the worst offenders-dry, oddly sour (bordering on spoiled), and almost inedible. I’ve had better meatballs made by my 4-year-old at home. The feta-brined chicken was just as bad-dry, lifeless, and completely flavorless. If it was brined in feta, we couldn’t taste it at all. The shish kababs were overcooked and rubbery, resembling unseasoned skewers. Even the lamb shank, while tender, was again lacking in any seasoning or depth. We resorted to asking for extra salt and pepper just to make the food remotely edible-but even that couldn’t save it. The halibut was equally unimpressive. The only redeeming dish was the spiced lamb flatbread, which we started with. It gave us hope that the meal would be great, but sadly, it was the peak of the experience;everything went downhill from there. What added to our disappointment was the service. Despite having a reservation, no one greeted us at the entrance. The hostess continued her conversation with other staff until we had to interrupt and ask to be seated. Even though we arrived on time, we were still made to wait 10 minutes. During the meal, the server never once asked how the food was, not even when we barely touched our dishes and asked for takeout boxes. In any reputable “fine dining” establishment, it’s basic courtesy to check in with guests, especially when food is left untouched. I was ready to provide honest feedback, but no one cared enough to ask. I felt genuinely upset for spending a considerable amount of money on food that was not just underwhelming-but unacceptable. Unless there is a serious overhaul in the kitchen-starting with a new chef-I don’t see how this place can continue to operate. Every single dish we had was a disaster, and from what we observed, other diners were also struggling to finish their food and opting to take it home. I’ve written many reviews before, but never one like this. That’s how bad this experience was. This was hands down one of the worst dining experience I’ve had in my life.

Yelp
Excellent service, awesome dishes, and great ambiance! Roasted Brussels sprouts are fantastic and family had a great time!

Yelp
Came to Meso for a work dinner and for the most part, it as all good things. First I love the internal atmosphere, great for groups and date nights! Service was attentive and we were taken care of. I think we got upsold a few items (ie some dishes was suppose to be sides became full portions, wanting tap water, but given bottled still water). Things I tried: - lemonade 3/5: wayyyy too sweet, i had to dilute it - Trio of dips: 5/5 came with 2 different dippers, this was such a great start to nibble on as we wait for food. - octopus: 3/5 not much taste and was a little rubbery - roasted potatoes 3/5: soggy and dry even with the overloaded sauce - roasted cauliflower 4/5: tasty, but a bit mushy - Shrimp (on appetizer) 5/5: my favorite food item for the night, perfectly cooked and fresh. I wanted to eat more but didn't want to fill myself up - beef/steak skewer 4/5: this cut of beef is on the fattier side if you are not into that, would not order, but I liked it - Lamb Shank 3/5: this was SO dry and the couscous that came with the lamb was bland, I would love to get some gravy or sauce with this to uplevel it - Halibut 3/5: I did not personally try this, but my dinner mate said it was dry and only ate a bit of it - Dessert 4/5: - Baklava: great pistacio dipping sauce - ice cream with chocolate: melted too fast, but the chocolate was good - Flan not flan: liked that it was light tldr: worth a visit, appetizers better than mains

Yelp
FLAVOR (4/5): I don't usually eat mediterranean food but it was pretty good here! Falafel was crispy, steak was a bit charred but the sauce that went with it was amazing. INSTAGRAM WORTHY (5/5): The restaurant is gorgeous inside and out. The outside is the tail end of Santana Row and the interior is tasteful decorated. The bar area looks super cute and we sat under this tree that was lit up in the middle of the restaurant. SERVICE (4/5): Made reservations and they let us sit a bit later because we wanted to take pictures outside. For a large party they took decent care of us! TAKEAWAYS: Great spot for a date or girls celebration.

Yelp
This place is next to NetApp in Santana Row and we usually notice they have a nice dinner crowd and decided to try it. Our server Gustavo recommended the crispy octopus app and even though it looked spicy, it wasn't, it was yummy The fish we ordered was also so good, crispy and properly seasoned. It paired well with the rice pilaf we ordered for the side. (Never understood why entrees now don't come with a side, considering how much an entree cost. Anyway we enjoyed the food, ambiance, and the service!

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised! I was initially worried this would be an aesthetic restaurant with underwhelming food, but I was incredibly impressed at how well everything was executed. For starters, the space is gorgeous and well-decorated, and conveniently located by one of the Santana Row parking garages. We started with the mezze platter with pita bread and chips. Each of the dips was very unique and the pita chips were addicting -- I could probably eat a whole bowl. The octopus was also tender and paired perfectly with some gently cooked potatoes and tangy yogurt. And the star of the show! We ordered a single piece of lamb shank but received two. When we flagged a staff member down to clarify we only ordered a single, they let us know that the original piece was on the smaller side so they went ahead and gave us two -- such great attention to detail and service! This lamb was sooooo tender and literally fell apart when pushed around with a spoon. I'm surprised they were even able to plate it while maintaining it's shape! It had a lovely balance of fat too which added tons of flavor and made each bite super unctious. The couscous base added some much-needed carbs to contrast the savory lamb, and was also the perfect vessel for the ratatouille sauce. Definitely coming again!

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. Highly recommend making reservations ahead of time. My first visit was as a walk in and it made the experience start off rough. Food is incredible. Highly recommend the pickled vegetables, shrimp and olives. After a few visits, I do feel the service is a bit hit or miss. The place itself is overall beautiful and clean.

Yelp
Wonderful dinner to celebrate the last night of our honeymoon highlighted by excellent service from Gustavo! We arrived at 9pm to enjoy an outdoor Mediterranean dinner, and brought our dog along for the night. The outdoor area is nicely lit with views of Santana Row and plenty of heaters to keep you warm. Gustavo welcomed my wife and I with a toast of champagne to celebrate being newlyweds. We decided to share a plethora of appetizers since neither of us were super hungry. The Brussels sprouts were excellent, crispy with just the right amount of salt, and paired with a nice feta sauce. Our housemade mezze platter included a red beet Labneh, garlic Tzatziki, and Hummus. All 3 were excellent, my personal favorite was the garlic tzatziki which had the right amount of garlic and still tasted refreshing. We also enjoyed the Falafel (crispy and WARM) along with their wagyu beef shish kebab (excellent). We paired our appetizer buffet with a glass each of Charles Krug Sauvignon Blanc. Gustavo capped off our night with a complimentary custard dessert. His service and kindness truly made us feel extra special on our romantic evening. Meso Modern Mediterranean is a must visit for anyone in the San Jose area!

Yelp
Been meaning to come here for a while and had the opportunity to dine here on a Friday night for date night. The restaurant had a great cocktail menu and their dinner menu was delicious. We ordered a bunch of appetizers and main dishes to share with the table. Our favorites were the meatball and the whole chicken! Although everything was delicious. I did take off one star simply because we went there while they were also hosting a welcome party for a wedding and the service was very slow. Other than that, we did enjoy the drinks and food.

Yelp
I went for lunch here on a weekday ( Friday ). The ambience was lovely but it's pricey . You can park in one of the garages of Santana row. Our server was friendly and helped us choose the dishes . We ordered : HOUSEMADE MEZZE PLATTER Espresso martini Lamb shank Passion fruit mojito Spice is nice Forgot to take the picture of lamb shank but I found it to be less flavorful than expected but drinks were great . Not sure if I would go again .

Yelp
Beautifully designed Mediterranean restaurant. Love the bar area. The ambiance alone is a reason to visit. The menu is simple yet fresh. Loved the array of vegetable-forward dishes. I ordered the Turmeric Cauliflower and the Brussels Sprouts. The cauliflower was fantastic, although I would have enjoyed it better with a bed of hummus or a heavier purée rather than just plain yogurt. The Brussels sprouts were perfectly crisp; the accompanying cilantro dipping sauce was zesty, tangy, and oh so delicious! Looking forward to my next visit!

Yelp
Very tasty and fresh! I think the only reason I am rating three stars is due to the slow service (which we had a massive group so I can't blame them much for that) alongside a lack of being able to eat much. I only had the hummus, rice, pasta, and some small bread bites. We had a fixed menu so it was hard to get something other than what was initially picked for us. But I think the interior was quite beautiful, the servers were very attentive, and from the food I ate, it was very tasty. I hope to attend Meso Mediterranean again to try other dishes!

Yelp
Brunch was decent. We got there right when they opened at 1130am and it filled in over the 90 minutes we were there. Service left something to be desired. It took us asking to get empty cocktail glasses removed after 2 bussers and our server didn't pick them up. They also kept asking us several times if we wanted to order more food. I understand it's share style but for brunch we both ordered entrees and it felt pushy. Shakshuka was flavorful. The benedict needed either textural or fresh component. They did warn us the side of Yukon potatoes was not available. Looking at the photos of Benedict in the past, the dish included that. I feel the server should have been straightforward that the Benedict was missing a substantial component. Cocktails were pretty tasty but slow to come out. Might try it for dinner but nothing was super special.

Yelp
Meso is a bustling Mediterranean restaurant located in Santana Row. Here are the details! Food: Branzino: 5/5 Kebab 5/5 Chicken 2/5 Octopus 3/5 Cauliflower 4/5 Service: 2/5 Server pretty much ignored us for the most part, and we had to ask for many things such as water refills, check, to go boxes, sides, and even the complementary dessert. Although I respect the hustle of trying to upsell, the server came off in a way that was almost pushy. The wait time for things we requested was pretty long. Ambiance: 5/5 and what you would expect Overall I would like to see improvements for the food and service. Some great tasting things but for the whole chicken to be a dud at $50 an order is crazy. Definitely do not get

Yelp
First and foremost, our server Mo was absolutely fantastic. He was welcoming and friendly and it never felt forced. He kindly offered to turn on the heater as we were sitting outside, and it got a bit chilly and was very patient when we asked him to turn it up. Several times. We didn't care for one of the dishes we ordered and he made sure it did not appear on our bill. Also, it was a birthday celebration, and while we did not order any dessert, he brought us a delicious cardamom tart, which was a very lovely touch. The restaurant is very nice and the food was delicious but Mo is what made the meal so special.

Yelp
Service was top notch! Several different staff members popped by to check on us and see if we needed anything. Had the vegan moussaka, papas bravas, beet salad, cauliflower and dip trio. Hard times choose a favorite between the beet salad, cauliflower and dips. They were all fabulous! The moussaka wasn't what I was expecting but probably because I didn't look closely at the description. Great location at the end of Santana row. Went for an early dinner so there was plenty of parking but I'm sure it gets busy.

Yelp
Meso has a great location in Santana Row. Close to parking lots and across from Zazil, when they play live music. Sitting at Meso, you can hear the music but also be able to talk. There is water fountain across from the restaurant- very vaca vibes. 5/5 for their decor inside and the outdoor seating. The food is amazing! And the cocktails are awesome / I always enjoy the lavender lemon drop. The octopus and batata bravas is very tasty. They beet salad and red beet labneh are yum! I have enjoyed their lamb dishes as well. 5/5 for their food and drinks. They have very nice and polite servers. They kept filling up our glasses of water. I really wanted to have a harissa spicy sauce with my meal, but I was not able to communicate effectively. We got some aioli and some other red oily sauce. They landed up charging for the aioli, which seemed strange / they have never done that before. I have been several times to Meso and it never disappoints.

Yelp
Stunning interior!! Got the Chicken Sharwma, thought it was delicious and had a side of crispy chips with hummus. Servers were friendly, always smiling and checking on us. Definitely think the interior is the selling point here though, on top of an amazing location to take a break from all your shopping, you have a beautiful view.

Yelp
Loved it here! Gustavo was an excellent server and we enjoyed our food and drinks a lot! The photo attached is the green goddess pasta.

Yelp
Came for dinner to order a few items off the of happy hour menu and main menu. Portions are on the smaller side, but pricey. We ordered many different dishes for a party of 4 to share but didn't feel that full towards the end of dinner. Drinks were delicious - recommend ordering the lavender lemon drop. Mezze platter was not great - all of the dips kind of tasted the same. I think smaller restaurants do this better. Out of all the dishes, the lamb shank tagine and turmeric roasted cauliflower were the favorites. The service was great in getting refills on our drinks and we didn't have to wait long for the food. The restaurant is spacious - would be great for large parties or romantic dates.

Yelp
I took my family here to celebrate Father's Day for my husband, and we had a pleasant experience. Upon walking in, the warm lighting and beautiful interior was eye catching. Service was prompt and professional. Management did a wonderful job hiring the team for this restaurant. Meso was definitely kid friendly as most reviews stated on yelp. Our waitress was kind to hand my children crayons and paper as soon as we sat down. We ordered the trio dip, beef/lamb meatballs, kale Caesar salad, tomahawk steak, and chicken kebab/ rice for the kids. Chicken and steak was undercooked, but the restaurant apologized immediately and took care of that for us. Excellent customer service. Overall, great experience.

Yelp
Highlight: If I was a bird, "The Nest" would be my home! That dessert plate is now in my top favorites. It is not too sweet and it is filled with flavors and textures. You have three scoops of housemade ice cream or sorbet on top of mixed piles of dark chocolate, pistachio, and crispy kataifi. You have different textures and flavors and you can eat them different ways - one part at a time or mixing them together. Each scoop is satisfying. Prior to dessert (haha), we tried Shakshuka from their brunch menu, and some small plates: charred eggplant and housemade mezze platter. The Shakshuka was good. It was slightly different from other Shakshukas I've tried. It's more saucy and no tomato chunks. It also tastes smoky, but with less acidity, compared to the ones I've tried before. It's different, but it's also good. The Charred Eggplant was delicious. It was nicely seasoned and the pomegranate gives it a slight contrast in texture from the mushy eggplant. For the Mezze plate, we had 3 dips: humus, garlic tzatziki, and smoked eggplant. They were all good. It comes with Pita Bread and Chips. The chips were a bit more salty and hard to bite than I'm used to. The dip helps tone down the saltiness. Also got the sparkling lavender lemonade for the drink. It was a light and refreshing drink in between bites of the flavorful and yummy food. The restaurant is spacious and has good natural light indoors. It has a cozy ambiance. They also have patio seating. The staff were helpful in explaining some of the dishes from the menu and checks on us from time to time. Overall it was a good brunch experience. The dessert is highly recommended. The price seems reasonable given the location and the ambiance.

Yelp
Don't come here on your own dime. Food is just ok, portion is small. You're paying for the location. The decor is quite modern but has a quite cold atmosphere. We were seated pretty quickly. We got the 5 scoop sampler, shish kabab, lamb shank and the beets salad. The sampler and salad was great, but calling it a salad is bit of a stretch. There was little greens and mostly yogurt. The lamshank was tasty and well cooked. But the kabok was disappointing. It was one skewer of beef without anythibg to go with. It was undercooked and very chewy. We asked for more flat bread and they charged 1.5 per. The most frustrating thing was a 20min wait for 2 scoops of ice cream.
google avatar

Theresa D.

Yelp
I had my birthday dinner here and it did not disappoint. The interior is so cute and the dishes delivered. My favorites of the night were the lamb, the fish and the potatoes. The lamb was fall off the bone tender and the fish was tender. Service was great and polite. This would be good a cute date spot or classy dinner.

Yelp
I often go to this restaurant and love the food and decor. I also go to their other restaurant in downtown San Jose. However recently on Saturday I took a visiting girlfriend from London and was unusually surprised at the way we were treated. Firstly the asked for a booth as most of them were empty. But the host refused to seat us in the booth...he ushered us to another table. A minute later a white couple came in and he seated them at the booth. I asked twice after and he refused so at this point I asked for the manager and she assisted to me a booth that was in a corner where we were not visible. I'm not sure if the restaurant has a new policy towards people of color but I found this whole experience to be quite awkward in the Bay Area. I just wanted to share my experience as I love going to this place and now it has just thrown me off.

Yelp
When I originally looked at the menu, I wasn't too interested. But I am so glad I gave this restaurant a chance. The flavor profile of these dishes was amazing!!! I ordered the warm feta, was amazing and garlicky with olive oil. I ordered the feta brined half chicken and it was lying on a bed of arugula and red yogurt with croutons (I almost licked the plate clean)!! Ambiance was beautiful and there was live music across the street. Will definitely be back!!!
google avatar

Leila S.

Yelp
What a great place to go to after work. Their bar is so great aesthetically! The bar tender made such fabulous expresso martinis! So good! I heard they make one of the best in the Bay Area! And this is proof that they are. You definitely need to try

Yelp
We had a reservation for Valentine's Day and were taken care of promptly. We felt very accommodated and a great experience being served. Our server had a Polaroid camera and printed some photos to capture our special day. We hand the lamb shank, beets salad, lamb flatbread, and sirloin steak. All the flavors were very fresh with layers of tastiness!
google avatar

Yelp
I went on Valentine's day and they had the special menu course but we wanted to do a la carte instead to pick our own food. The food was amazing!!! I love how fresh the mediterranean food was. It felt healthy in a good way too. The lady who served us was superrrr friendly the whole time and cheerful! She carried a polaroid camera around so we got to take a picture at the table to take home as a memory :) This was super thoughtful! The beet salad gave me a new perspective on beets, they were super soft and yummy and paired well with the olive oil and yogurt sauce. The spiced lamb flatbread was good but it wasn't a must eat for me. The lamb shank was juicy and slid right off the bone, that's how you know it's super tender! I really enjoyed this with the couscous. This is their staple menu item. The beef sirloin steak was the highlight. This is a rotating menu item and I've never had it with the sauce it was served with before. I didn't know what it was but it was a refreshing experience and I'd recommend getting this. These were all shareable. The place inside was cozy! I'd recommend to any mediterranean food lovers!!!!
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
The dishes here are fresh and change based on seasonal vegetables, which I really appreciate. I love that they use what's in season--it adds to the quality and flavor. The presentation is absolutely gorgeous, and the pricing reflects that level of detail. The restaurant can get pretty packed since it's located at the end of Santana Row, but you can always make a reservation to secure a spot. The interior is just as stunning as the food, creating a beautiful dining atmosphere. Overall, it's a fantastic spot for a gathering if you enjoy high-end Mediterranean cuisine!

Yelp
Meso is a beautiful restaurant. I thought the food was good - I recommend the beef and lamb meatballs and brussel sprouts. the turmeric roasted cauliflower was meh and would recommend skipping. I ordered the wild crispy mushroom flatbread (perfect size for one person) and really recommend if you like mushrooms!
google avatar

Joshua B.

Yelp
Ordered the Wagyu beef kibab medium and it was a bit chewy, wish we'd order it medium rare but it was still tasty. We also ordered the beef and lamb meatballs, that had a great sauce to pair it with. The shrimps were perfectly cooked and tasty. Octopus was cooked perfectly and the artichoke ravioli was interesting. Overall great spot. Service was great and it was a modern vibe. I'd come again if im around

Yelp
Had a chance to try Meso today with a friend and had a really nice experience. We ended up going during happy hour and sitting at the bar which was really nice. The interior here is very nice so definitely worth checking out and the food was also yummy. The service was pretty fast and had no complaints. For food we tried: * Lavender lemon drop - this was really tasty and the perfect amount of strong. The drink was also presented very well * Falafels - this was nice and came with a plate of 3 with a yogurt sauce which was really nice * Meatballs - I felt like the sauce for these wasnt really good and the meat smelled a little gamey so would skip next time * halibut taco - this was cripsy and really yummy, especially the green sauce on top was nice * Kofte taco- this was pretty yummy also and i felt the meat was well seasoned Overall, good experience and would go back!

Yelp
VERY BAD SERVICE & LUKE WARM/COLD FOOD. We came here this past weekend and had awful, unfriendly service. Our table was purposely ignored entirely and given luke warm/cold food. Sad to say I used to LOVE this place but not anymore. I honestly can't believe they permit such awful service. We visited on a Saturday and were seated right away. They gave us a lovely booth for two. The decor, music, and atmosphere is absolutely lovely and we were looking forward to a very nice dining experience. Too bad we were given the EXACT OPPOSITE. In the beginning our server was friendly, funny, and helpful. He was charming and even took photos for us. We ordered drinks and an appetizer to start. We were talking and enjoying our appetizer of the Sautéed Prawns with some pita bread, they're delicious! Definitely my favorite thing here so far. After talking for about 20-30 minutes, we realized our server had completely forgotten us and never came back to take our food order. Oddly enough the tables on both sides of us (that arrived 10-15 after us) had already gotten all of their food, drinks, and everything.. Strange. Our server forgot about us but attended to everyone around us... Finally when a busser came to take away our empty appetizer dishes. I asked if he could please send someone to take our order. We were literally starving. He asked who and we said, "we don't know his name but he is a bald guy." The busser sent over the Manager instead. The manager came to take our order on a paper with a pen. Thank you. Shortly after our server came running over to take our order. He was all sweaty and clearly flustered. I understand being busy and having the responsibility of different tables, but all we wanted was to just take our food order we were waiting for over 30+ minutes. Everyone around us had food and we were starving at the table... Anyway he took our order and we were happy to continue our conversation like nothing happened. No big deal right? WRONG because when our food arrived... it was NOT hot or fresh at all.. but the food we received was LUKE WARM and cold. I can't help but feel like they left our food to sit out until it was nolonger fresh on purpose... Who delivers a lukewarm New York Strip over very cold dressing??? WEIRD. I ordered the Lamb Shank and it was quite lovely but also not as hot and fresh as it should be. It was very moist and had a very nice savory flavor to it. BUT since the food was more on lukewarm side, not hot and fresh I didn't enjoy it much sadly. We also got the New York Strip, which I think we would've loved if it hadn't been LUKEWARM as well. It is VERY STRANGE to receive a steak that is not even hot or very warm at all. I'm not sure if the bottom is supposed to be actually COLD. Is it? The bottom dressing was cold like out of a refrigerator.. The steak was cooked perfectly, but they clearly waited a LONG time to bring the food to us for some odd reason because is it luke warm?? Not hot at all. At this point it felt like we were given BAD SERVICE on PURPOSE. Our experience was very uncomfortable with the server because honestly we could have easily gotten over the fact that he forgot to take our order.. BUT it was the fact that he was clearly UPSET with us for asking for someone else's help. He was no longer smiling or talking to us at all and he never checked back on us. He checked on everyone around us at least 3/4 times while NOT checking on us. It was deliberate and very unprofessional. The server finally came back towards the end to take away an empty plate, but said nothing to us. He was so awkward and weird after we asked for someone else's help. Even at the end, the server never came back to check on us. A tall manager (or worker) lady came and asked if we needed anything. We got the check from her and paid the bill with her as well. Not our server. We decided that we would still tip him even though he purposely treated us unkindly and regardless of the VERY BAD service we received and weird luke warm food.. We both agreed that we are never coming back here due to how unprofessional the server was and the fact that I honestly think they gave us lukewarm + cold sauce on purpose. Absolutely AWFUL service. Honestly if he would've just apologized and taken our order and given us hot food, we would've forgotten about the fact that he forgot to take our order in the first place. But the fact that he purposely helped everyone around us and ignored our table entirely ON PURPOSE and then we ended up with cold/lukewarm food is very unacceptable and unprofessional.

Yelp
Absolutely love this spot. I've been twice - once for a work dinner and once with family for a birthday. The service is exceptional - I had Marco as my server both times and he is extremely kind, knowledgeable, and attentive! The decor on the walls is light and exotic, and adds a nice touch to the feel of the restaurant. Now the food, is absolutely incredible. We got the warm marinated feta with garlic - a must try!!! The lamb shank was one of the most flavorful and melt-in-your-mouth meats I've ever had!! Highly recommend. Will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
First time in San Jose and this place really set the bar high. The food is truly exceptional- you simply cannot go wrong ordering anything on the menu. Everything was expertly crafted and every detail seemed to be thought out well. Their cocktails are refreshing and perfectly sweet. I got a passion fruit mojito and really enjoyed it. For food, our favorites were the trio of dips and the chicken pita. Trio of dips came pita chips and pita bread but the dip that stood out of the three was the red beet labneh. Chicken pita was packed with tons of flavor and a generous amount of chicken. The chicken was so juicy. We also ordered the wagyu shish kebab and that one was just okay. I wish it would have been a bit more tender. The lamb dish was huge and it could have easily fed 5 people. It was so decadent. Definitely coming back and happy to try other cocktails and food on the menu.

Yelp
My friends and I came here to celebrate my friend's birthday on a Tuesday. We had a reservation for 7 people, and the initial group was seated before all of us arrived. Food: I tried the following items: Dip Trip - The dips were good! I wish more bread or pita was given to eat with the dips. Brussel Sprouts - These were roasted perfectly and tasted great Gnocchi - Gnocchi was fluffy and flavorful. I would order this again for sure. Roasted Potatoes - These were pretty standard but good nonetheless. My friends ordered a number of other items (ones I cannot eat) and seemed to enjoy the food! Service: Service was quite lovely and friendly. Our main server was super helpful. Our runners and others were also friendly. Our food came out promptly with our appetizers coming out first, and our entrees followed in a timely but not rushed manner. TL;DR - Good mediterranean food with good service

Yelp
We went here for my mom's birthday after seeing the high ratings, it absolutely lived up to the hype! The food here is exquisite, very unique flavors and perfect portion sizes. The New York strip steak was some of the best I've had, the flavor combination strikes the right balance between fragrant and savory. Our server Christian took great care of us and made us feel comfortable and excited to be there. We sat outside in the heaters, but inside has an incredible dining room with a beautiful furnishings. Flat out 5 star experience, highly recommended!

Yelp
I went here for the first time for Mother's Day brunch so they had a special menu. I ordered the green eggs and lamb and a lavender lemon drop cocktail. The drink was good. Pretty. Not that strong which I liked. We didn't keep a menu at our table so when my food came, I didn't realize they didn't add artichokes as it was described in the menu. It also looked kind of, I don't even know, hastily thrown together? It wasn't cold, but it wasn't warm. The plating was not even centered which I assumed was intentional UNTIL my sister's order came (she ordered the same thing and it came much, much later after I had already finished my food, I hadn't ate at all yet that day so I was super hungry). Hers had artichokes in the eggs, that's when I remembered mine was supposed to have some too. And she let me try some of hers, and the eggs were moist unlike mine that were so dry... she had way more lamb too. You can even just tell by looking at the pictures that mine was not right. It didn't help that right after my sister got her dish, another waiter mistakenly came by with a plate of green eggs and lamb that looked like hers, nice and fresh. Mine was clearly the odd one out. At first, I chalked up my underwhelming dish to the fact that it was a special menu and they probably weren't used to making it, but then I saw how it was supposed to look like twice and tasted my sister's version... I knew something was up. I don't know if the chef was on break when making mine and someone else had to do it or what, but I was so confused. I'm not that picky and like I said earlier, I was so hungry that I ate my food right up anyways by the time my sister got her food, but still... I don't know what happened lol. The service was nice though. They gave my mom a free flower. And the restaurant is so pretty. It has a classy vibe to it.

Yelp
We wanted to try something out of the ordinary for us and this place did not disappoint. We ordered a bunch of different dishes to share (recommend you do this). The eggplant hummus was the best! So flavorful and tangy. Give it a try. The chicken was very flavorful and the sauce was delicious. The staff was helpful and attentive. The inside was fairly quiet, well lit, and clean. I highly recommend giving this place a try.

Yelp
3.5 rounded down. Meso Mediterranean is a great place for either a date night or nicer group meal. Decor is luxe, clean, and modern. Overall though, I wouldn't say I was super impressed by the food. Starting with the service, it was good! I was checked on just the right amount of times, and food came out in decent time. On food, I ordered the Harissa Octopus and the Lamb Shank "Tagine". The octopus was overcooked to my taste; I found it to be a little rubbery & tough. Flavoring was excellent though, especially the yogurt sauce underneath. The lamb was tender and well cooked, but flavoring just wasn't quite what I like. I think it's more personal preference than anything. Personally, I'm not sure if I'm jumping to come back, which is why I'm rounding down the 3.5 to a 3. Would certainly bring it up as an option for a group meal (say, with coworkers) though! Just did not love the food enough, especially given it being a little on the pricey side.

Yelp
Love this place for both happy hour and other times as well. Lots of seating inside and the service is good too! This place has a wide variety of food and drink options in comparison to other Mediterranean places that I've noticed. Good vegetarian options and the flatbread with mushrooms is my staple here and tastes so unique with the vinegar taste too. The lavender lemon drop cocktail is so aesthetic and a good unique drink too. All the food is plated really nicely like the falafel bites.

Yelp
Service was incredibly kind from the waiters to the custodians who chatted about my dog. The branzino was so tender and deboned. The sauces that come with are also very unique and delicious. Huge recommend! The lamb shank was fall off the bone. I wish that the couscous was easier to eat though, in the stew it was almost more of a decoration than an easy grain to eat. We sat outside and loved the decor and the heaters!

Yelp
I had their La Plancha fish and the harissa patatas bravas. The waiter was very patient and knowledgeable about explaining their dishes to me. I love their sauce and will come back for more.

Yelp
We came here for a friends birthday and it did not disappoint! The portions are on a smaller side for the price it was a bit pricy for the quantity you got. However the taste of the dishes were very delicious. We ordered a bunch of appetizers so I have some data here to share: Our favorites were: -Dips and the warm feta: that was a highlight! The warm feta is a small portion so if you are a group I recommend getting two. The dips were also good but basically a dollop of each on a plate... not enough at all! -Cauliflower with labaneh: that was pretty delicious and great to share as a group! The crunch of the tuneric cauliflower paired nicely with the labaneh and honey drizzle. I could eat that labaneh dip just by itself! -potatoes: those were my favorite! They were cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth. They were delicious! Other appetizers we tried: -Roasted Brussels sprouts: tasty but nothing special -Kebabs: A little dry but good with the sauce -Squash: Acorn squash was roasted and delicious -Mushroom and lamb flatbread: both were great, nothing out of the ordinary We also had the baklava cigars for dessert! Again they were VERY small and you can eat them in one bite. So overall I give this place a 4/5. This place was decent and elegant for a nice evening out. The service was also pretty great as well and very fry attentive, The food fell a bit short due to the quantity but if you went in knowing that, then order small plates to try. It is nestled in the downtown of Santana Row where you can walk around after your meal which we did! Bonus tip: we celebrated our friends birthday and they provided a complimentary cake and a candle which was very much appreciated!

Yelp
Friday night, place was empty while all the other restaurants were slammed packed. But the food was delicious. Service was great too. We tried a bunch of the appetizers and beet salad. All were delicious. We also got the Branzino and Rack of Lamb. The part I didn't like was the livable wage service charge. 5% which came out to $15 on our bill. I don't think restaurants should charge this. Its bs just increase your prices to reflect it if you can't pay your bills without it. Why do we have to pay it? I didn't say anything because I was on a date but most likely won't come back.

Yelp
Great ambiance and friendly service. A bit pricey due to the location. Sample of dips was a pleasure for my tongue, but the pita provided was not enough--you can afford, as a restaurant, to serve more that two small pieces of pita. Long gone are the days of the $4.99 off the menu Durgin Park lamb shank. That said, the shank I had was very, very good. Meat fell off the bone and the meat was succulent and moist. A great place to eat for Mediterranean food.

Yelp
I was genuinely surprised at the quality of the food. We weren't craving Mediterranean food but were recommended this place by family. If you're looking for tender lamb, flavor-packed dishes, with the perfect textures and consistency, I'd recommend this restaurant. Definitely worth trying.

Yelp
It's our first time here and we came in a little early, our table was not ready yet. Waited for an hour to be seated. I'm not taking points from that as we're still on our fasting period at that time, kids were so hungry though. They apologized for the wait and gave me a card that says 20 dollar off on my next visit. The server did a good job though. I ordered lamb shank tagine, it was huge and tender, you can ask to replace couscous with rice if you really like rice like me. For me it needs more salt, for my parents it's perfect. I just asked for salt and it's good! I also ordered steak medium rare. It was kinda tough for me. I finished it though. The Pitaquiles it's alright. It's just that the pita chips get soggy. Or is it supposed to be soggy. The place is nice looks fancy. We took a lot of photos. Overall it's ok, some needs improvement. Will revisit.

Yelp
Service: 4.5/5 excellent Food: 4.5/5 Drinks: 5/5 We came here for our anniversary with reservations and we waited about 20 minutes for our table. The restaurant was full but we did see some empty tables so not sure why we had to wait so long with reservations but other than that we were very happy with our experience. We got a beef dish, sorry i don't remember the name and the cauliflower and a flat bread along with a wine and a cocktail. Everything we had was delicious and we loved the vibes and decor inside the restaurant. I did not use the restroom that night. I would come back again. We parked super close at a parking lot that was really close and i don't think we had to pay for the parking. The restaurant is located at Santana row near the outskirts. The wine we had was one of the best we had, upon recommendation by our waiter. Would recommend
