Where to Eat Near Mexico City's Major Museums

"Near: Museo Frida Kahlo  This traditional three-story house that overlooks Plaza Santa Catarina is a great place to eat comfort-style food after a visit to the Frida Kahlo Museum. Ask for a table on the top floor for the best view, and plan on starting your meal with the gooey, chorizo-filled queso fundido (be careful—that salsa’s very spicy.) Follow that up with a plate of enchiladas suizas, a glass or two of their extremely affordable house wine, and the crepas de cajeta for dessert. " - guillaume guevara

We had breakfast upstairs in this cute restaurant. They offer you pastries as an appetizer to your meal (it is a common practice in many Mexico City restaurants) My fruit plate was fresh, beautiful, and delicious. Coffee was strong and delicious. They don’t rush you at all and the room was lovely.

This is a lovely restaurant with very good food. It’s set in an old house with a charming terrace overlooking the square in front of the Chapel of Santa Catarina de Siena. The portions are generous, and although the menu isn’t very extensive, you can enjoy authentic Mexican flavors in comfort. The service is very friendly.

Loved their enfrijoladas and eating here is an experience. Tranquil and yet lots going on in the square and decor.

Within the cobblestoned roads of the old neighborhood of Coyoacán, and in front of a quaint plaza, this restaurant offers traditional Mexican food. They also offer a selection of artisanal mezcal. The food and service are excellent. The decor is based on the motifs of little towns of Mexico. The terrace at the top offers a peaceful view into the neighborhood.

Google
An authentic and and very welcoming restaurant. Staff were quite helpful and did everything they could to guests felling welcome. We were even treated to a full presentation at the table of all the desserts/cakes available on the menu. Location in front of the beautiful square adds even more to an enjoyable lunch. Strongly recommend this neighbourhood with the cobblestone streets and the cosy restaurants and interesting museums.

Google
Tourist oriented, they may appreciate the food, very sweet, not so spicy, and looking like a classical colorful traditional restaurant, service si good. Personally I wouldn’t return although, as a local, prices are accesible enough and there is nice view to a church.

I will definitely be back when I'm in CDMX. We loved the terrace, food and atmosphere. The vegetarian crepes and mole were phenomenal. The hibiscus margarita was soooo good!

Yelp
We came in with our tour for coffee and it really hit the spot. Small family, business, very low-key and friendly. Across from historic Church, that was built for the indigenous population. Definitely worth a trip, especially on a Sunday.

Yelp
*yawn* A big let down. Service was ok. The decor is quite charming and ambiance was comfy. Unfortunately, the food was boring and tasteless. Maybe the chef was out for the day and someone else had to step in.

Yelp
Local authentic spot across from a quaint square and a church, this old house is a colorful tri level restaurant with an upstairs terrace. Guacamole is a salty, thin side dish here that is great with their excellent micheladas. I had the cream of poblano soup and shared an appetizer of crema de mole, a spicy spread that reminded me of Thai peanut sauce. It came with some soft cheese and an apple carved like a swan. Great midpoint between Museo Frida Kahlo in Coyoacan and the Diego Rivera Studio in San Angel, a pleasant walk.

Yelp
This an exceptional place for a date on Sunday afternoon. The beautiful colonial house, now restaurant, has a solid Mexican menu, moderate prices, and a terrace with views of the park and church below.

Yelp
Great food. The appetizers were fantastic .Especially like the Nogales salad. Enchiladas with mole were delicious. Service poor. Waiter unfamiliar with check in offer. Checked on it and only offered coffee. After asking another server, found out we were entitled to other choices. Ordered tacos arrachera but was given steak not tacos. Ate it anyway. Waiter asked how much we wanted to give him tip because he had closed out bill. It was a bit uncomfortable to have your server ask how much tip we would give him. He was slow and inattentive in spite of the fact the place was empty. If you get a good server I am sure your experience would be better than ours.
