I have lived in Spain for over 20 years and the food I had here must have been the worst I have ever eaten! waited 45mins to then be told they haven't got the dish ordered... then this terrible stew made from oil and lamb that was 90% fat was served to me... nothing else just that... tried one piece of this oily dish and felt sorry for the lamb that had gone to make it! The waitress was lovely and a great spot.. and the desserts looked good, at least they weren't floating in oil!

Long standing mesón in Trujillo’s main square. Popular with locals and tourists alike, serves hearty Spanish food from Extremadura. Probably their most popular and best executed dish is the “migas”, a typical regional dish that they serve with perfectly fried eggs.

We arrived quite late 26:30 but even so were welcomed for lunch.. Food excellent as the service.. we spent 95 euros in a 3 course meal in 4 people with wine and coffee.. fully recommended

Very generous portions of excellent food. Highly recommend the Migas and the Caldereta de cordero (lamb stew with peppers and potatoes).

Traveled around Spain. A bit and enjoy different regional foods, but this restaurant and its food come out tops, great service nothing no problem thank you

Stayed in Trujillo overnight and found this lovely restaurant. We went for the set menu at €17.50 which included a bottle of red wine, water and bread. We had a shared starter of Goats cheese salad, I had the asparagus and my partner had the pepper salad. Followed by Piggy bits and fries for my partner and pork bites for myself...we managed a cheesecake between us for desert. The food was first class, as was the service. Highly recommend.

They have a set menu with some choice for about €16, which came with a bottle of wine and water and four courses. Food was of good quality. We’ve been to Extremadura twice now and have come here both times!

The food quantity was too much, you get a bottle of wine in the menu. Service was average and the worse part was as we were billed extra and we already paid the extra amount untill we realised that they charged us extra. We got the amount refunded but we felt cheated and that is not a good feeling. I don’t think I want to eat at this place again. One good thing to know is to get a táke away bag if you can’t eat everything.

Yelp
Famous or not, Meson la Troya I fear has seen better days. We stopped here only because it was next door to our hotel...we could have made a better choice. Meson la Troya is a great place if you value quantity or quality...and if you do then you are going to have a great time here. We found the dishes to be overloaded, overdone and over the hill. A casual perusal of the other diners that evening were evidently having a similar experience as we. The table next to us only sampled a few bites of the four dishes they were brought. Watching their reaction we concluded our impression was not alone. The best item we had was the goat cheese salad but even that felt like it was not much better than factory made. Our grilled asparagus was tough, the migas tasted like they used the lowest quality chorizo they could find and the lomo was so overcooked we gave up chewing two bites in... We did not see anyone finish their plates perhaps because of the large quantities but we suspect because the food was not that good. We at first thought our impression was because of our unfamiliarity of Extremadurean cooking. However, after spending several days in the region we learned good from bad. This was not good. The one saving grace....the postre was great.

Yelp
The location of this "famous" restaurant is in the beautiful main square of the village. At night it is lit up so gorgeously! Photos line the walls of all the famous Spaniards who have eaten here. You can stand to the bar in the entrance and have a beer (which comes with s free little bite to eat, tapas) If you head tears the back to the tables you will find lots of rooms. This use to be a house, so it's pretty intimate! When you are seated, there are only a few other tables in that room. We had a large group and ordered LOTS of dishes and shared them all. Everything was delicious! I recommend the house wine. It's 2€ and tastes great!!
