Yelp
TL/DR: RAW BACON served instead of bacon bits, no one noticed, and when it was brought to staff's attention, all they do is gaslight you.
So - came here for dinner on the recommendation of a local. Service was awkward and weird but manageable. We know this is a small town.
Watch out for the first red flag that o should have heeded: if you have a coupon for a free appetizer, they take your order for the appetizer but the waiter told us he would verify the coupon (we got it from the Granbury Visitor Center) to see if would be valid after our meal was over. No, validate my coupon first. If I can't use the coups, I don't want the app. Do they do it this way because they are losing money??
He verified the coupon. We ordered the appetizer, and our meals. I ordered the chicken fried steak special for $18.99. Server thought we were ordering the 2 CFS for $46! I thought he was just new, so I walked him up front and showed him the blackboard.
My order came with 2 sides, I ordered fried okra and a loaded baked potato. My potato arrived without any toppings, so I asked for them.
When they arrived: the bacon bits for my baked potato arrived at the table pink, slimy, cold -- why? Because they were RAW!!! They were sprinkled on the cheese and sour cream!
Waiter said those bacon bits were cooked, when were pink and slimy. I am not stupid - I have been cooking for 5O years. That bacon is straight out of the package - totally raw and chopped. I wish I had had time to take a photo, but he took them straight back to the kitchen.
Next the manager came and told me over and over that they only buy fully-cooked bacon. I am familiar with fully cooked bacon. I sometimes buy it myself! It's never light pink, slimy, and completely squishy. This is not fully- cooked bacon, no matter what she would have me believe.
She did admit that the bacon bits for the baked potatoes are kept in the refrigerator - which is appropriate for raw meat. Dicing the raw bacon and putting it on a set of baked potato toppings is DISGUSTING and WRONG!
Really not sure what the collective delusion is here - has no one here every transformed raw bacon into bacon bits?
The manager also shared that this is how they have been serving bacon for 15 years, that the cook has been here for 15 years, and no one has ever complained.
Ha ha ha - pull the other one.
She also shared that the owner will not buy anything else and that the cook will never drop the bacon on the fryer, so if you want to take a chance, live dangerously, and eat raw bacon, I guess this is the place for you??
1 star since I can't give 0.
When in Granbury, AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
