Best Holiday Gifts in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"Louisville-based chef Edward Lee — who "obtained global recognition thanks to his appearance on the Netflix cooking competition Culinary Class Wars, which was produced in South Korea" — collaborated on a limited-edition 8-inch chef’s knife produced by this Ojai-based maker, crafted in Japan by artisans and secured by a charred Maker’s Mark bourbon barrel wood handle. The piece is presented as "a stunning piece that will impress any hardcore cook," and a portion of proceeds support the Lee Initiative, which works on increasing diversity and equity in the restaurant industry." - Matthew Kang

Absolutely gorgeous knives! I've been looking for a great German Steel blade with a wooden handle and have been coming up short until now. I purchased the Oliva Stealth Chef's Knife and Pairing Knife Set. They are the second and thrid knives from the left in the attached photo. I give the pairing knife 5 stars straight out of the packaging - it's agile, the handle is ergonomic, and it's SHARP. I'm talking score your sourdough sharp. It's my new favorite in our lineup! The Chef's knife I give 4 stars - the handle is great and the guard/bolster is really smooth and comfortable to hold (the sign of a well-thought-out knife!) and it's super light. However, I needed to take it to be professionally sharpened right out of the packaging which was a little frustrating. With that said, this thing can cut vegetables like a Japanese blade and then debone a chicken with the best of them. Would definitely buy again! The 4 star rating is also because there was some goo on both blades that wasn't too easy to get off, but once I did the blade was good as new and so easy to use! I will 100% be purchasing from Messermeister again! I adore the Oliva stealth line and can't wait to get my next blade from them to grow my collection.

The quality of the cutlery is very high, especially considering that the pieces are cheaper than the equivalents from the "Big Three" of Solingen. The experts aren't kidding, either, when they say that the factory edges on Messermeister knives are far superior to those of any other German blade. The US website has always offered fair prices, relatively infrequent marketing emails on opt-in, and is now my go-to site when it's time to shop for wedding presents. Nobody says no to an 8" Meridian Elite Stealth chef's knife. Further? My Meridian Elite Stealth 10" chef's knife is the most lovely piece of cutlery that I own. The edges of the spine are thoughtfully rounded and polished, so the knife callous I've developed on my right hand no longer bleeds when I cook all day. The balance is perfect, even putting my Wusthof pieces to shame, and the handle is great for people with huge honking hands like me, with rounded scales and excellent finish (no gaps between the composite scale and the tang where bacteria can create a disgusting little enclave).

Great knifes. Best kitchen knifes I have ever owned. I have a whole set of them. I loved them so much I bought the 10" chef, caving set and paring knifes for my close friends. Everyone LOVES them. One of them tells everyone in their household, "No, you do not use that knife use any other knife, but not that one!" She is so protective of her knife!

This company is a complete scam. They advertise free sharpening for life but when I tried to get a few knives sharpened, they said they no longer have that resource. And it was still being advertised. Apparently then spent their money our advertising and not to fulfill their promises. If you bought a knife from them in 2023 or earlier they owe you a refund of purchase. My small claims case is in the works now. Also, this is not a woman owned business. It was a man who bought the company for the current CEO. This company is a complete sham and you should avoid their product at all costs.

My husband and I took cooking classes with a local chef who recommended Messermeister. We purchased some for our own kitchen that we love. So when our daughter needed new knives, we purchased some for her. She loves them too! Easy ordering, fast shipping, most of all, excellent quality!

I have purchased the Messermeister Oliva chef's knife and truly enjoy using it in the kitchen. I did a ton of research prior to purchase and it has lived up to my expectations. It has good edge retention and is easy to tune up when it begins to dull. Shipping was quick and I will certainly consider adding more to my kit in the future.

Purchased four knives - two paring knives, a Japanese cleaver and a long carving knife. Have been using them for about six months. Very happy with the quality and sharpness of the blades. They are our go to knives now for all kinds of kitchen cutting. Just have to take good care and we always hand wash the knives.

Wow. I’ve purchased the other big knife brands in the past, which are great. But when it came time to replace my 20 year old chef’s knife (handed down to my daughter), I wanted to make it something special. I bought the Royale Elite stealth chef’s knife. The first knife that I received had a small manufacturing defect, so I contacted the company. Their service was excellent! The replacement knife they sent will be my prized knife; likely forever. The blade is a little lighter than I was used to, but after a few days, I fell in love with the balance and the great sharpness. It’s just the right weight for heavy prep work. The handle is gorgeous and will only look better over time. I was so happy with the knife and service that I then purchased a smaller meridian elite chef’s knife for my wife. It’s perfect. No worry about maintaining the handle and the blade is amazing. She loves it and I reach for it for any quick job that might be necessary. Then I purchased a meridian elite serrated utility knife. Perfect. I also am happy with the basic knife block I got at the same time. Then, one of the Messermeister sales prompted me to purchase and oliva elite 9” bread knife. My family was chuckling at me as I raved about how well the knife cut bread. They thought I was being a little dramatic... well, the joke was on them. Each time someone tries the knife, they are taken back at how easily it slides through the bread. There isn’t any “sawing” motion barely at all! You kind of press the knife down and forward a little and it cuts a perfect slice?!?!? These knifes are beautiful and functional. Add that to their great service and how can you go wrong? Yes, I’m thoroughly a Messermeister convert!
