Mestiizo

They are well polished considering they've only been open less than a month. Mostly hits but a few misses on the menu: for drinks, the Pina Tropical is a clever take on a pina colada, with green curry being surprisingly complimentary, if slightly on the too subtle side. The Purple Storm is good but needs more punch. Their house made Tepache vermouth is interesting and complex. For food, a few dishes were memorable. The short rib is tender and rich. The birria eggroll worked well, though we would have liked two of them. The tuna tostada was good but forgettable. The shishito elote, which should technically be called esquites, was excellent but with a suggestion: the shishitos are minced and hard to discern. They should be prominent and intact. If you're going to feature the novelty of using shishitos in a traditional mexican dish, then feature them fully! The pork belly taco was good, but order multiple if you plan to share. The most notable miss was the Mexikana roll. It was good enough but slightly boring. The barramundi was superb, with a great crispy skin and charred cabbage. Our server was enthusiastic and high energy, and knew the menu well. The owner, Danny, was warm and friendly. We will definitely be back with friends.

This is absolutely Minnesota’s new vibe. I’ve got a lot to fill you in on, and I’ll update you soon. But for now, let me be crystal clear… if you try one restaurant in the entire Midwest, make it this one. It’s worth the trip, no question.

Ambiance and vibes were great! Our server was lovely as well. We just wished the taste of the food matched the experience. Of the dishes we ordered, stand outs were the nashi roll and elote appetizer, but we wouldn’t go out our way to get these dishes. We found the food to be very bland and lackluster, the description didn’t seem to match what was being served. We assumed it might’ve been an off day.

A MUST! so excited for northeast to have this new gem. jared was so personable and enthusiastic about the menu. thank you jared for making my first experience so enjoyable. his recommendations were perfect, try the cochinita taco and the nashi roll! their speciality cocktails are insane! the vibe and decor are so intimate and chic, yet cozy and laidback. i’m looking forward to returning.

So excited to have this great new restaurant in the neighborhood. We arrived at 4 pm on New Year's Eve when they opened and had no trouble getting a seat at the bar. Friendly bar tenders who were learning from each other and how to work together (restaurant has only been open a couple weeks). I was impressed by the level of communication between staff. I like sitting at the bar because I enjoy watching drinks being made and food coming out of the kitchen. There were a lot of kitchen staff and fun to see them warming up for what I'm sure was a long and busy night. Our cocktails were fantastic. Lots of attention to detail. My paloma had a custom MN Ice icecube which has a special notch in the top to place an orange peel slice. It was amazing how much more scent you got from the peel due to that ice cube. We were super hungry and inhaled our starter of a birria egg roll. Holy shit! What a superb idea. Next time we'd order one per person for sure. It was NYE and we were hungry, so we decided to splurge on both beef entees and we were not sorry. We can eat a lot and both were filling portions. I liked the chimichuri sauce with the carne asada. The steak had chew in a good way and it was my husbands favorite of the two. I personally loved the shortrib. It was buttery and tender and had me going back for more. I ate every last little bite. We've eaten at a lot of fine dining in town and I think the team at Mestiizo has what it takes to match the best restaurants in town. I liked the creativity of the menu and the fun atmosphere. The dining room looks amazing after dark. Can't wait to go back for another amazing cocktail and that eggroll!

Would I go back? Yes. Do I need to go back? No. Our party of 4 ordered a number of dishes, no one left raving. Service was good. It's a fairly small, compact dining space. Give it a try. Unique blend of options on the menu.

LOVED!! I work down the street and have been so excited to try this place. I brought my friend and we had a couple drinks and shared some plates. Absolutely amazing! Fresh, unique flavors that draw from different cultures. Worth every single penny and I swear I was dreaming about the tacos all night! One of the coolest parts of the night though was seeing co-owner Danny personally check every plate sent out. So obvious the amount of love and passion put into this place! Great atmosphere, would recommend for first dates, anniversaries, catching up with friends, special experiences, and everything in-between. Thank you <3

I really loved my drinks my favorite was the Ruby Rhapsody, a sangria with so much depth. The mix of red wine, gin, mezcal, blackberry, blood orange, and mole was incredibly flavorful, beautifully balanced, and honestly so cute. Super creative and memorable. For food, I tried the Birria Eggroll (beef, carrots, scallions, avocado mousse, ponzu-consomé). The flavors were good, but the consomé could've used a little more seasoning I'd rate it a 6.9/10. The Tuna Tostada was yummy and fresh with avocado, salsa macha, cilantro, cucumber, radish, and sesame. I also loved the Mexikana Roll snow crab, panela cheese, roasted poblano, spicy aioli, tostada crunch, and microgreen radish so flavorful with great texture. The Neuve Roll was another hit with salmon, shrimp tempura, chili-garlic aioli, cucumber, avocado, and red tobiko. The service was amazing our Server Jared was a rockstar! and the ambience was lively yet moody at the same time, which made the whole experience feel elevated and fun. Definitely a spot I'll be coming back to in NE Minneapolis.

Make reservations, and specify you want a booth or you will get the world's tiniest table. I don't understand the need to turn the lights off at 4 pm in winter. Clearly if people are eating at that time of day, they don't want to feel like they're eating in a coal mine by the light of a dodgy candle. For starters we had the chips & salsa and elote. The chips were phenomenal and the mid & spicy salsas had wonderful flavors. The elote was okay, just short on salt (and I would have liked a hint of lime). For mains we had the lengua, shrimp, chicken, and pork belly tacos, the Mexikana roll, and the octopus. The lengua and chicken tacos were meh. The shrimp and pork belly tacos were out of this world!!!! That's all we would order next time for mains. Regarding the lengua taco and the octopus, the meat was cold; very off-putting and if that's the way the chef meant it to be it would be best to indicate that on the menu or have the server warn you so it's not a disappointment to others like it was for us. For drinks, the Midday Field was a delight to the tastebuds and should never leave the menu. They also offered an in-house vermouth shot that was noteworthy and hopefully they will keep offering. The service was great, and we will definitely be back on our next trip to Minneapolis.

Mestiizo was a nice experience. It is Mexican and Asian inspired fusion so the vibes and menu were pretty unique. From having agave plants displayed right above a katana to having cheese in a sushi roll(it was yummy), I think they did a good job of capturing the fusion without feeling too gimmicky. The food itself was delicious, we got the Mexikana roll and 3 of the various tacos they have on the menu. All the food was delicious but the tacos in particular were my favorite. I like that they really tried to blend the menu and not have regular sushi and regular tacos but for instance the roll we got had poblano and cheese, which brought in the Mexican elements to a sushi roll that I found quite fun. The staff was friendly although with the crowded seating and narrow walk ways it can feel a little hectic in there. Overall I enjoyed Mestiizo and would be a great date spot!

Lighting of the restaurant is moody and has a good vibe. Was very busy and just opened a few weeks ago. Every table was full. Food was good. The best drink was the Ruby Rhapsody which is their sangria. Favorite roll was the Nueve roll. Tacos were fine and come as a single serving.

The food was delicious, our server Bambi was amazing, and the kitchen being dedicated GF was great too! The room also had really pretty lighting!
