25 Essential Tacos in and Around Denver

"For the breakfast tacos alone — which come loaded on locally made tortillas with rice and beans, potatoes, queso fresco, and a scrambled or fried egg plus your choice of meat — this Wheat Ridge brewery is worth a stop on a leisurely Sunday, when a pint of Mestizo Lager or Oaxaquena, a Mexican chocolate stout, is just a bonus." - Eater Staff, Ruth Tobias

Google
Nice local taco bar. We only tried a few tacos and salsa. The flavors are good but a little bland. Nice they have an outdoor patio. Cute way to reuse a gas station. Will go back and try some more items and the beer. Nice baby changing station .

Steve Guzmán

Google
Not bad but I wanted the nice, messy looking quesabirria from the photos, but alas. I got the clean ones. See photo. Also the beer wasn’t ice cold. Spent $50+ on lunch for two.

Google
Delicious tacos and refreshing, tasty beer! They have a nice lunch deal of 2 tacos + a beer for $15! Staff were so friendly, welcoming and helpful. We were visiting from out of town and this was the perfect place to land for lunch. You really can’t get better, a brewery with tacos! Give it a try and keep dreaming of the tacos all week like us!

Google
Fantastic drinks and quality food. I had the torta and the bread was so fresh and delicious it went perfect with my paloma. Great concept of turning an old auto oil change shop to a restaurant and brewery.

Google
We love going to this place, the food is incredible 🤤& everyone who works there is nice & helpful. 🤗 We placed a large order the other night & it turned out great. We will go to them for catering again for sure! The 36 tacos we ordered were eaten to fast, I failed to get a pic of those!

Mike Reyher

Google
This is one of those hidden gems. The food is top notch and you get to rest it in a restored old gas station. Drinks are good too!

Jake Waters

Google
Excellent menu of authentic Mexican and Ecuadorian dishes. Homemade brews and salsas. Dog friendly outdoor patio. This place has it all! Round that off with very friendly staff, it's a must try for the West Denver area.

Google
Adding to my initial review after a few repeat visits. Mestizo never fails! In addition to coming for dinner and drinks, we’ve also tried their brunch. We’ve enjoyed their micheladas, bloody Marias, and the brunch specials like the mollete (basically an open faced breakfast sandwich with avocado, cheese, egg, and toasted bread) - absolutely delicious! — Been eagerly awaiting for Mestizo Brew to open and it did not disappoint! Delicious food - we tried the tacos and pupusa - and great brews and cocktails. Top it off with an inviting, friendly staff. Definitely a new neighborhood hot spot!

Yelp
With just a few adjustments, this review can pivot from 3 to 5 stars. There are so many cool things about Mestizo Brew Cantina. Let's talk the good stuff first: cozy place where you feel at home. I love the bright colors, all the plants, indoor and outdoor seating areas and when we were there, the live music. The staff were friendly and on point with service and taking care of folks. The drinks were really good as well. I loved my Paloma, not too limey or sweet. His Coin marg was also tasty. And we spied some really good looking house made sangria. What needed some edits? The food. We had the beef birria, so full disclosure didn't sample a lot from the menu. The birria was bland and needed some seasoning, def more salt. It was meh for us. We were sad, lol. The chips and salsa were solid, but for us both the birria bumped the rating down. The bright side? This is an easy fix. Fingers crossed management is reading this.

Yelp
Amazing tacos. Robust tap list. Great patio. The chicken tinga and taco queso were absolutely fantastic. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
Yum got the quesadilla birrias. Yum yum. Staff was super friendly and place was super cute. Not sure of the history of the spot but pretty sure they were a great food truck turned into brick and mortar. Which in my opinion is the best kind of spot.

Tracy D.

Yelp
Waitress was very friendly and welcoming. Food service was super slow - 30 min. for one bean and cheese pupusa and the pupusa was not fully cooked. The flavors were good but just not cooked all the way through. There were only 3-4 tables besides us so it was not crowded. Beer was good though! :-)

Erin S.

Yelp
Good food if you are willing to wait. Service is soooo slow. It took over 30 minutes to order a few tacos to go.

Yelp
Cute new place that serves up amazing customer service and unique, delicious bites! We had the chips and salsa with a variety of their tasty tacos, all came out amazing! My only regret is not taking more pictures of the food before inhaling it all. The service went above and beyond to take care of us on their patio seating. Would definitely return.

Yelp
New place, had to try. The folks here are pleasant and make you feel at home. We popped in for some food and brews and it was a good date night. We wanted to try many things so we ordered Pupusa - El Salvadoran corn tortilla stuffed with cheese, grilled and then topped with slaw and salsa; Llapingachos - Ecuadorian potato and cheese cakes with red onion escabeche, tomatoes and salsa (I loved these!!); Grande chips and salsa - house made chips with three kinds of salsa, all tasty. The beers are well made and tasty. This will be a repeat place for us.

Yelp
Great newer (as of January, I believe) spot in Wheat Ridge with a nice little dog friendly patio and friendly staff! My husband and I shared the birria tacos (comes with 2), side of rice, side of beans, chips with trio of salsas, and each our own tacos (I got carnitas). We really enjoyed all our food and so did our 9 month old who is obsessed with carnitas and also enjoyed trying their rice and beans. I also tried their house margarita and my husband tried one of their beers. We really enjoyed these as well. We will definitely be back to try some tortas and pupusas!

Yelp
The hubs and I have come here twice now with the same friends. They turned us on to Mestizo because they come weekly and now we are bitching our wagons to theres. It's a small but mighty spot to grab a drink and some tasty food. We've started with the chips and salsa both times. The chips are thicker and perfectly salty with three different salsas to choose from. Between the four of us, we have no issue polishing them all off. I really like the veggie tacos minus the onion and cheese (both are not great for my stomach). They are the perfect taco with a little recited beans, a little rice, avo, zucchini and pepper. Just really satisfying. The hubs and our friends get an assortment of tacos and papusas and all of us leave happy and full. Service is always fast and friendly too and we will continue to come back!

Yelp
Here on vacation and this place was near by my AirBnB. Great place to hang out with friends and the atmosphere is chill with great low key Mexican music. You order your food at the counter and the food is delivered to your table. Service is great and the nice lady who took our order answered all our questions about the food. The carnitas was the fav at our table but all was yummy. The Salsa de Aguacate (mild avocado salsa) is delicious. Guava Rose and Red Sangria are both really good and both are only served on weekends. Must try when your in town, you won't be disappointed.

Anna S.

Yelp
Staff was super friendly. Especially the lady who took our order/served/bartended us. She was kind, informative, and very helpful to with the team. For food, Llapingnachos was not for me, I needed more salsa and wouldn't mind some meat (it's a vegetarian option). Tacos had a lot going on but I'm a simple taco person so this could be great for someone else. Meat was nicely cooked. Tortilla had a nice crisp. Birria was pretty good, the jus was more on the oily side and lacked flavor, I wouldn't mind eating these with salsa instead.

Sean G.

Yelp
Amazing food, fantastic beer, and friendly staff. I wish I could eat more to try more taco's. I'm looking forward to coming back to try brunch here.

Yelp
Small brewery serving up tacos and sides. May not be good for large groups due to space. All of the beers we tried were great (lager, IPA, and paso doble) as well as the food (chips & salsa, pupusa, and most of the tacos). Give this place a try if you are in the area!

Yelp
Cool new spot in Wheat Ridge! I visited a few months ago and have been wanting to go back. Surprised they don't have more Yelp reviews, so I'm hoping this draws interest. Had a few tacos and a margarita. Both were delicious and reasonably priced. Customer service is great. Vibe is super chill. Small parking lot out front. Came with my friend who drove by a few times That's how she found out about it. Would love to discover more places around Denver that way!

Yelp
Soooooooo amazing! The food. The workers. The funky feel and indoor outdoor patio. Having something so close in Wheat Ridge enjoying some cuisines ive never heard of or had was truly a delight

Yelp
Wonderful place for food and drinks! The menu is unique, making it something out of the norm that really stands out! The owners are super friendly. The food is fresh and delicious. The price is reasonable. Support local! Keep Mo ey on our community!

Capn B.

Yelp
Absolutely excellent local food and brews place. Wonderful people who care about the quality of the beer and the food. Food is an interesting and varied mix of Mexican, Argentinian, and Salvadoran flavors. The hot salsa is nice and hot, with rich flavor as well. Nice bright and welcoming space. I will make this a regular stop whenever I'm nearby.

Breena B.

Yelp
Amazing experience. The staff was so great. We ordered the pupusas, tacos and quesabirria. All of it was incredible. The palomas and batangas were delicious as well! A great place to relax and enjoy affordable food and drinks. Highly recommend all of it.

Yelp
Shiny brew kettles greet you from the windows, along with the locals who have claimed this place as their own. Tasty food created like you'd expect in South America accompanied by some of the best drinks in the area. The appetizers are amazing and filling... The pastor is cooked on a spit--nothing lazy about this chef. Greyson was very knowledgeable about the history of this brewery and he made us fall in love with the place. See you soon MBC!

Yelp
Dear Mother, I have been deployed in the Taco War for 3 years now. Mestizo has been a great asset in our war efforts to spread freedom and quality tacos to the world's non-Hispanic communities. They've been supplying the local militia with quality carnitas, and carne asada tacos. They aren't quite the Mexican staple I have grown to love, but out here in the snowy battlefield of Denver, they will more than suffice. We hope to continue our mission of spreading tacos to the world. The general says that we're making great headway and should be able to be home by Christmas. Forever yours, Sergeant Elote

Seb C.

Yelp
Wowza! Friendly people, delicious beer and excellent food. What else can you ask for in a place? I had a great weekday happy hour experience at Mestizo. Thanks!!

Kyler K.

Yelp
Amazing food! Quick service as well. Very accessible also with friendly family owners. Tinga and carne tacos were tops.

Curtis M.

Yelp
We read the "great reviews" and decided to try it. Beer was kind of bland and the appetizers, meh and overpriced for what they were. Really hate fake, paid for reviews. We left without getting lunch and found another place down the street that was much, much better.

Grace L.

Yelp
Extremely expensive food, the taste is not good at all. You're better off going to an authentic restaurant for cheaper prices. Tacos and Tortas were cold and dry. Never coming back here
google avatar

Abbie ..

Yelp
Come here!!!!! Easy 5/5! The tacos were delicious! You can tell everything was homemade and fresh.
google avatar

Nancy C.

Yelp
This is such a cute place and the food was delicious. The beer and service were both great. I definitely recommend the Tinga Torta! We will definitely be back!

Megan S.

Yelp
Great food and lovely staff! The chips are hand made and all of the salsas are delicious. I haven't had anything here I didn't like.

Lauren ..

Yelp
Mestizo is a solid 3.5 for me. Went yesterday to try the beers and to grab some lunch. The paper beer menu wasn't up to date and quite a few beers were unavailable. The beers were ok. The food took forever. Ordered the birria tacos, two other tacos, chips and salsa and one other item. The tacos took about 15 minute and were decent. The chips and salsa took 45 minutes to come out and we never received the other item at all after being told several times it was being plated. The service was really lacking and the person working didn't seem to really care.
google avatar

Samantha C.

Yelp
The food was amazing and unlike anything we have been able to find anywhere else. Our group had a few cocktails and beers and all were excellent. Love the ambiance and the ability to sit both indoors and out. The staff and owner were super knowledgeable, welcoming and gave great insight to the area and other recommendations of things to do. We can't wait to visit again!

Keith W.

Yelp
Great beer and a very good food program. The owners are on site consistently and love to talk beer. One of the best Mexican lagers that I have had. It has a very relaxed atmosphere and they always have the important sports games on.
google avatar

Monica T.

Yelp
The food is overpriced and bland. The hottest salsa was not spicy at all. Tacos are $6 each!
google avatar

Nicole C.

Yelp
I came in to Mestizo based solely on reviews and it did not disappoint! The service was second to none. While I was dining I said to myself "this place feels like it is someone dream coming to life!" It had a small town feel, with care and connection to each customer. Then the food came... and my love of Mestizo grew even more! Everything we ordered (and we ordered a lot) was made to perfection!! The ambiance was relaxed and inviting, giving us the feel that we could stay a while and continue to build connections. Highly recommend! 10/10!
google avatar

Samantha J.

Yelp
Wasn't sure what to think of a place in an old oil change space but it was great! The tacos were tasty and the margarita was decent. I will be back to try a few more items. It was a little pricey for margs and tacos. But helping a small business is worth it!

Pat L.

Yelp
Tried this place for the first time tonight. Tacos were tasty with lots of meat. Molly's Brown beer - nice! Mitch was very friendly. We'll be back - frequently!!!
google avatar

Keith L.

Yelp
Quick, friendly, and attentive service! Beers were tasty, and the salsas were incredible. Im already looking forward to a return trip to try more of the menu. I'm very excited to have Mestizo in our neighborhood!

Spencer S.

Yelp
Great food, good beer, and friendly staff. The chicken tinga tacos are awesome, highly recommend with the house lager.
google avatar

Nick H.

Yelp
Small and exceptional beer selection. Every single taco is delicious and well done. Can't recommend enough
google avatar

Daniel M.

Yelp
The food was delicious and the service was quick and friendly. Overall, my entire group of 7 was very pleased and was grateful I suggested we try this place.

Carly B.

Yelp
Amazing tacos & beer! Real neighborhood gem. They had staple taco favorites and a few things on the menu I've never tried before that I will definitely be getting again (pupusa!!!) Can't wait to come back.

Susannah M.

Yelp
I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon to see what they were all about. I ordered a few tacos to go and as I waited I grew hungrier just smelling what other people were eating. The wait was not long, the guy at the counter personable and professional, and the tacos were ............... Super Yummy. Definitely hit the spot, will be back for sure!

Trent F.

Yelp
Small place that may have been a gas station turned micro brewery. Good beer (light and dark) and decent tacos. Our server on a Wednesday was great. I think he mentioned only working a couple of days to help out his buddy. Coming from San Jose, noticed that ppl actually help each other a little more! Advice to head to Evergreen was a bonus!!

Elvis P.

Yelp
Such a sweet cool spot, been watching it go up for years and today first stop in. Great atmosphere, great staff, and more importantly Excellent food, I don't use the E word often, but just a great add to the hood. The recipes are authentic from multiple South Cusine areas. Great drinks, so glad you guys picked this spot. I'll see ya a bunch

Holly B.

Yelp
Tasty tacos, delicious beer, amazingly friendly service, and family-friendly - one of the few breweries with changing tables set up in the bathrooms (they know how hard that is to find and wanted to make sure the whole family was able to come)!

D P.

Yelp
The atmosphere is a very festive cute place with bright colors. The food is amazing! We had the chips with trio salsas. We loved the rojo the best but they were all so good some of us were changing our minds on which is our favorite ! The tacos were some of the best I've had ! The veggie one is fantastic!

Paul W.

Yelp
Hands down best tacos I've ever eaten! Cantina was super clean, had great music playing, and staff was very friendly. Looking forward to trying the beer selection next time I'm in town cause the friends I was with were very impressed. Will definitely be back soon!

Brienne W.

Yelp
Really chill place with great food and drinks. Solid addition to the neighborhood. Brought our 4 year old son early afternoon in a Friday and he was welcome. Tacos are a little larger than street size and yummy. He shells are fantastic. The lager is my favorite beer but don't bypass the cocktails if you're in the mood. The Paloma is great as well.
