I generally dislike movie theaters (think dirty cloth seats, greasy popcorn residue, the collective smell of a hundred other movie-goers sweating through a two hour film, plus no blankets to curl up in... this is a losing situation) but find the Bijou Metro to be the exception. Aside from featuring great independent films, reruns of old classics, and eclectic series/festivals, it's also super cozy and clean, with rooms that seat no more than ~50 people at once.
Other perks: It's located in the middle of downtown Eugene, right across from Kesey Square, so you can get dinner beforehand, or ice cream at Red Wagon/tea at Townshend afterward = the perfect casual date. :)
And then there's the ultimate draw: The concession stand! Bijou Metro offers a variety of snacks you'll enjoy without regretting later: A selection of local beers, quality loose leaf teas, popcorn with nutritional yeast, Noisette pastries, frozen Junior Mints (yay!), kombucha on tap, and Euphoria chocolates.
The only thing is... I hear there used to be a resident cat at the Bijou... and I think it's a loss that there is no cat to occupy the theater's seats now. A new cat would greatly enhance the atmosphere of the theater and draw in business. Something to think about, owners. ;)
