"Regulars to this Sweet Auburn Curb Market soul food stall know what’s up, and have for years. Metro Deli continues to be one of the market’s staple food stalls, serving up breakfast and meat-and-two plates, starting early in the morning. Load up cafeteria style with baked spaghetti and ribs and fried chicken with sides of collards, mac and cheese, and dirty rice. Grab some banana pudding or peach cobbler for dessert. Lunch specials at Metro Deli include one meat, two sides, and cornbread for just under $10. The stall also serves wraps and sandwiches perfect for lunch on the go." - Mike Jordan, Eater Staff

Google
Wow I see some of the reviews, and I strongly have to disagree been eating here for years and normally I may get a plate on a monthly basis. Everything is delicious, veggies and yams especially!! Try the Salisbury steak my favorite and the falafel!

We were touring the city via streetcar and elected to have breakfast. The gentleman behind the counter very kindly put together a breakfast of has browns, eggs, bacon, and biscuits after the morning closing hours. Per my son “this is the best breakfast ever!”

Google
Veggie plate is four fresh choices and they seasoned really good 👍 delicious 😋

Google
Do not support this business. We are essential health care workers walking to get our lunches the sign clearly says add bacon to burger for $0.99 but when I get ready to order it's $1.99. "But sir the sign says $0.99" he replied, " I don't care what the sign says...I am not going to honor that". In addition, for years they have had reasonable prices, now everything is almost double what it was before. Baked spaghetti with 2 sides and corn bread was 6.99 now it's 9.99...smh

Google
Wow, I am actually very disappointed. my boyfriend and I decided to come here to support a small business. Starting off the mac & cheese looked like it had sliced american cheese on top. Flavor wise the mac & cheese was watery and unseasoned. The baked beans were watery and flavorless and the greens were flavorless. The best part was the was the cornbread and ribs. This is most definitely not the soul food my mother makes. I hate to leave a bad review , but i believe for this restaurant to prosper, they will need to do way better.

David Yang

Google
Food was terrible that I couldn't even finish it. The chicken wings were overly salty, the mac n cheese was watery and barely had any cheese. It was just slices of Kraft american cheese thrown on top. Collard greens had a funny flavor to them. There are better options in this market

Google
Delicious and reasonably priced! Only $6.99 for a gigantic veggie plate

Google
First time trying this place. I did the 1main 2 sides + cornbread 8.99 (9.79 w/tax) I think their prices are reasonable, rib plate a/2sides is 9.99 (not sure how many bones you get) i has 3 fried chicken wings, collards and Mac n cheese. The wings big in size fried good, nice favor, greens tasted good, mac n cheese looked interesting but taste was wasn’t to bad I’ve had better and I’ve had worst. Overall I think it was a good buy for your buck they give good portions, that’s the biggest plus and why they get 4 stars. The meal can hold you for a minute.

Yelp
Tucked inside the Municipal Market Metro has a lot of history but what it possesses in history it lacks in flavor. The food looks good but flavor wise it leave a lot to be desired. The owners are Somali and don't quite understand the nuances of African American southern cooking. I had the fried chicken wings which were fresh but lacked seasoning, the mac N cheese was a huge disappointment and the collards lacked seasoning. All in all a 4/10...you cannot beat the ambiance of the Curb Market, but it's a pass for me on the metro deli.

Katherine G.

Yelp
First time visiting municipal market and this is where we ate. Got the rib plate and it was delicious. The meat fell off the bone. The collared greens and beans were well flavored and the cornbread was good too. Reasonable prices as well.

Ms G.

Yelp
The people that eat here must not be the review type because the food is phenomenal and I heard they've been there for a while so I'm not sure why they don't have more reviews. It feels like your grandparents cooked it in their southern kitchen yummy! I usually get the Salisbury steak with mac n cheese, green and yams it comes with a piece of cornbread that resembles a pancake which is also delicious. It may very likely be a pancake but that's not the name of it. The actual name of the cornbread is quiete funny you'll see when you get there lol.

Yelp
This is a great choice for a fast lunch or dinner. It's located inside of the Auburn Market in a stall. Food is on a hot bar. I find the staff unassuming and efficient. The food is VERY good and fresh. Flavorful soul food - Seems to be owned by Ethiopians so Black Owned. You just can't beat the veggie plate for $7.99. I am not a vegetarian, but this veggie plate helps me eat more veggies each week. Lol. I go here quite often. Validated parking in the lot. The market gets super busy so enjoy the ambiance of the community.

Yelp
While in Atlanta I wanted to try something different! While I stopped in this market and got a veggie plate! The Mac and cheese, cabbage and collards were down right great! They served it with a pancake? The vegan lentil soup was good to; they also served this with a pan cake? I will be returning? Anyone that knows me knows I am a Mac and cheese queen!. Now they had these lentil semolinas; pass them up.

Tari O.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places at the sweet Auburn market! It is well priced for both breakfast and lunch, and the food is delicious. Staff are kind as well. They validate parking for an hour so you can grab and go or eat here as well. Definitely try to get here before noon or after 1. It's a popular spot. I've never had breakfast here but the prices are great as well! My faves are the falafel salad($9) or gyros. Tons of people do the hot bar as well. Anything off of the menu is made to order!

Kina L.

Yelp
I am a regular at the Auburn market but this was my first time at Metro Deli. The counter is across from the vietnamese restaurant formerly known as Dua. The set up is cafeteria style meat and 2. I had just gotten a smoothie at Rawsome juicery but the baked spaghetti special of the day was calling my name. Nothing fancy- pure home cooking. I had a huge helping with a side of cabbage and mac and cheese (really cheesy). Total was $8.99. The guys there are super nice and the line moves quickly. Parking: Free 1 hour in the lot. Come before noon or after noon as the line can get long with healthcare employees from Grady.

Sarah M.

Yelp
Super friendly gentlemen working at the counter. It's located inside a farmers market type of place, so NOTHING about it is fancy. I only had a piece of baked chicken breast, but it was sooooo tender and good. I will definitely be back.

Steve W.

Yelp
This little stand screams a five in taste friendly and southern soul food selection. Warm friendly and courteous at the counter!! Jambalaya Salisbury steak Beet salad Collards Cabbage Tomato cucumber salad All some of the best ever. Check these guys out!!!

Desira S.

Yelp
Food and service was great. I had the veggie plate ($6.99) which allowed me to choose 4 sides. I chose the spicy beet salad, collards, cabbage and pinto beans. It also came with cornbread. The food wasn't greasy but flavorful and carefully prepared. On my next trip, I will have to stop in again and try some of the other selections.

Courtney M.

Yelp
This food stand is located inside the Sweet Auburn Market. Food: Yum! They have a rib plate lunch special for $9.99. It's three ribs, with with two sides and cornbread. The ribs were good... huge! The cornbread looks like a pancake, but it works. It still goes great with collard greens! I was originally skeptical of the Mac and cheese here, because I couldn't really see it through the foggy glass window at the counter. I almost passed on it because from what I could see, it didn't really LOOK that good, but of course looks can be deceiving! I actually let the guy at the counter choose it for me (I never go wrong with this method. They know what the ppl like!) All of that to say, "I like the Mac!" Service: Great! Super nice guy at the counter. Atmosphere: Very casual. Metro deli is inside the market so the seating area is shared with other food stands. Daily specials are written on a chalk board at the top of the stand, but a board with the full menu is located on the (right) side of the stand. I actually didn't see it until I left. Price: Very reasonable, especially for a food stand. The lunch specials are also available on the weekend, but just Monday-Friday. Overall: Good food! I will be back to try the Jambalaya, which seemed to be really popular that day.

Yelp
the best soul food i had in a long long time!!! i really love and appreciate their food!!

Yelp
Stopped on a food tour and had succotash and banana pudding, all very tasty.

Yelp
Every time I go to the Curb Market, I always find myself drooling at the food here. So, the last UYE I came to here (thanks Vi!) I decided this would be my place to eat. Simple soul food- that's what they sell! I saw a meat plate with cornbread and 2 sides, for $6.99. I decided to get ribs, green beans, n mac n cheese. I am starving as I write this review so this is real tough for me to keep my cool writing this. I ended up getting a coke as well, and I think this behemoth of a togo box was just under $10. I wanted to eat the veggies first (believe it or not!)- and the mac n cheese were awesome. The seasoning and amount of cheese would make your tongue sing and your arteries cringe. The green beans were alright, but didn't excite me like the mac n cheese did. The cornbread looked like an arepa- and it was awesome. I didn't need any butter for it, so that was a plus! I downed that sucker and kept a bite in my pocket. The ribs were alright- I could tell they were sitting out for a few- but they still had lots of flavor (almost like teriyaki). They were definitely meaty too. Overall, it was a great meal for that much food. I was pleased to see they scored a 100 on their health score as well. Also on the side note, if you want to eat here, they have a counter you can sit at as well. The items seem to change every once in a while, so if you don't like what you see one day, be sure to check it out the next time!

Yelp
Holy portion sizes, Batman! Needing some lunch on a weekday, I decided on the Metro Deli & Soul Food since it appeared popular and had a swiftly-moving line. The $7.99 lunch sounded like a smart option; you get a meat and two veggie sides plus cornbread. I didn't know what the meats were (the glass was fogged up, and there was no sign announcing the meats), so I asked the lady, and they were baked chicken, Salisbury steak, and jambalaya. I got the Salisbury steak along with creamed corn and collard greens. There's a small counter at Metro Deli but I walked over to another seating area to enjoy my food. When I opened the Styrofoam container, my eyes must've popped out, seeing how big the steak was. Wow, no skimping on sizes here. The vegetables weren't shrinking violets either. The steak wasn't bland at all (I didn't need the salt and pepper packets that came with my plastic silverware), and some peppers and onions rounded it out. The creamed corn had large kernels, and the collards were not tough and were a little spicy but still edible for me. Southern cornbread purists may be confused by the pancake-shaped sweet cornbread, but I still liked it. And a guy came around and handed out free samples from the praline place. I sure felt like I was winning at lunch that day!

Yelp
This shop is located in the Sweet Auburn Market/Municipal Market. They do not have their own parking lot but Market parking can be validated. This establishment is a gem, that's for sure. I visited during lunch and it was crowded in the Market but service was fast at this shop. They have a $7.99 lunch special which includes one meat, two sides, and corn bread. The portions are generous and the food is flavorful!!! They have a variety of options to choose from. There were sweet potatoes, smoother steak (maybe?), ribs, cabbage, Mac & cheese, and many other items to choose from. I had the chicken, with Mac and cheese & steamed cabbage. The cornbread looks like a pancake and it has the consistency of being made with corn meal instead of flower. I am not a chicken eater, but I cleaned ever inch of the leg quarter that I had. It was THAT GOOD! The only thing I must advise is, be careful eating here if you must return to work because it will be very hard. Total with tax was around $8.50. I would recommend this spot for a quick bite for lunch.

Rikesha F.

Yelp
Located in the Municipal Market, this place is delicious. I tried the Mac and cheese and the jambalaya and both were awesome. I'll definitely seek them out again on my next trip to Atlanta.

Kamille B.

Yelp
The bomb.com! Their white bean stew special transported me back to my great grandma kitchen. Their corn bread was like a pancake and by itself was unforgettable but dipped in the soup was great. Their banana pudding...... SO good! Nice fresh bananas not slimy or squishy. Went here on a southern food tour and would definitely go back!

De'Von F.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem inside of the Auburn Market! I was a first timer here a few weeks ago and fell in love with the southern soul food this place has to offer. It is very 'hole-in-the-wall' feelish, however, this is where you always get your best meal! I tried their hamburger steak with rice, gravy, and mac n cheese. I wasn't super impressed with the mac n cheese, however, the steak took me back to my days of sitting at my grandmothers table in south georgia. I definitely will be returning to this spot and recommending it to others looking for great soul food.

Yelp
If you're a vegetarian (or pescatarian like I am nowadays) you know how hard it can be to find really flavorful, properly cooked vegetable dishes. This place is so good I nearly cried while eating! Their website says their veggies are never cooked with meat (no surprise bacon or ham). I had the veggie combo plate, which is 4 items of your choosing. I got the mac n cheese, beet salad, collards, and okra. The plate included a piece of cornbread cooked like a pancake. Everything was tender, juicy, flavorful. But what really knocked my socks off was the okra. I love okra and have never had it so good, including when I make it myself. I used the cornbread to soak up every drop. I wish I could eat here all the time and if I ever come back to Atlanta I certainly will.

Amos Y.

Yelp
Came here as I heard this is a great place for Soul Food. I like how its located in the Auburn Market where you can go on a food buffet trying other restaurants as well. However I came here for the soul food and I had the lunch combo with a meat dish and 2 sides. I had the chicken with gravy, mac and cheese and creamed corn. No complains it was delicious and the portion were reasonably priced. I also ordered the Jambalya, the rice was warm so it probably didn't taste as good it could have been and there wasn't a lot of ingredients apart from rice and a piece of sausage

Staci G.

Yelp
I came here for lunch and I'm glad I did. I had the salisbury steak, Mac and cheese, and cabbage. It was excellent. The steak was sooooo good. The food was hot, and they are clean. The are located in the Auburn Market. I will be back... I will try their breakfast next time.

Loleka H.

Yelp
My food I had for lunch was nothing but amazing . I had mac n cheese, baked chicken with rice, candied yams as well as a side of tomato cucumber salad ... yummy I'm going to have to check them out again I wish I had a picture to show all the Yelp community.

Toni G.

Yelp
I hate chicken wings...something about chomping down on a poor birds wing just creeps me out... .until I ate their chicken wings... more like turkey wings!!! These things were huge!!!!@ They were deeeeeeelicious. With some hot sauce, sweet potatoes and mac &cheese. It was worth the walk to this market. Man behind the counter was nice as well as the sweet woman who checked me out.

Dean M.

Yelp
I'm happy with this biscuit, good home style eggs, split smoked sausage links and cheddar on a fluffy biscuit for $4 They say breakfast is served till 11:00 but I would recommend coming by 10:45, they are busy setting up lunch and can get irritated with breakfast orders or run out.

Asenath N.

Yelp
Great place to grab a quick lunch. Delicious soul food meal for only 7.99 The food was very well seasoned!

Arty W.

Yelp
Happened upon Sweet Auburn Curb Market yesterday while strolling thru this historic part of ATL. Wandered inside around 11am--just before the lunch rush--and the place was practically empty. Strolled by the Metro Deli & Soul Food then all the other food vendors and couldn't decide what to get for lunch. Luckily, I returned to the Metro Deli in time to beat the throe of folks coming from local businesses to dine. The 1 meat/2 sides lunch special was reasonably priced at $7.99--I finally decided on the baked chix w/ potato salad & creamed corn. EVERYTHING was delicious & well-prepared. Partner had a veggie plate with an outstanding cucumber/tomato salad. I had heard this place had a facelift couple years ago & wanted to check it out. Lots of cool new diners & vendors but not overdone. Still very quaint with loads of characters. You've gotta check out the Sweet Auburn Curb Market!

Yelp
Why am I the second reviewer of this place?! I find this absurd, as this place is incredible! I stopped by the Market today with my baby sister and we wandered about, pondering what was for lunch. Sweet Auburn Curb Market is so great and the reason that it is as awesome as it is is due to its constituent mom-and-pops. Honestly, baby sis and I were about to get in line at Afrodish, but the line was crazy long. So we trotted the perimeter of the market to see what else caught our eye. We finally settled on Metro Deli. And when we took the first bite, we realized that we got lucky and had in fact, not settled at all. Since we had late breakfasts, we decided that one box would suffice, after having peered at neighboring diners' food. We got country-fried steak with mac 'n cheese and sweet potatoes. Glorious lunch! With the pancake-shaped cornbread. What?! The idea is so simple yet innovative. Why hadn't I considered making my own in this form? Anyway, that's completely besides the point. The steak was more like salisbury steak/meatloaf. It seemed to be made of ground beef with veggies (and most likely breading) and it floated in a delicious gravy. This thing tasted as if it was full of soul and love. I tried a tad of cornbread, sweet potatoes (in a brown sugar/cinnamon sauce, it seemed), and baked mac 'n cheese in one bite (yes, I broke off a bit of each and shoved them all into my mouth at once, you got something to say?). At this point, I thought, "Maybe we should have gotten two boxes..." But it was too late, and being the elder sister, I had to really share. Otherwise, how would I have been perceived? Next time though... One for her. One for me. :D

Yelp
I'm hard-pressed not to love anything at the Sweet Auburn Curb Market, and Metro Deli of course makes my love list. They make a mean falafel *from scratch* with a generous amount of parsley in the actual falafel patties; nom. The lady working seemed pretty eager for feedback from first-time customers and graciously listened to my comments. I didn't get to try any of the hot line soul food stuff, but am excited to do so, because there's a helpful sign saying that there's no meat in the vegetables. Mac-n-cheese with a side of greens, here I come.

M B.

Yelp
I wanted to order the veggie plate and the man at the counter was so rude and unaccommodating. It's supposed to come with 4 options I chose three and wanted double of one because all the other sides I wanted they were out of. He told me he would charge me for double. In his mind paying the same price for 3 sides was fair when it was supposed to be 4. I told him to keep it.

Cathy G.

Yelp
Had a chance to visit the Curb Market on a food focused walking tour. This was one of our stops - sampled the banana pudding and must go back for more while I'm in Atlanta! Also loved the corn bread. Nothing fancy here, just great food served by friendly people inside a historic market.

Lloyd F.

Yelp
Large portion and counter- seating right at their large kiosk. Had the bbq rib platter. Sides were good and thet included a cornbread pancake w/my bbq platter. Staff was very attentive & accomodating as well

Gary J.

Yelp
Don't even think about trying their gyro! Once again! STOP!! "DO NOT" try this place's Gyro! It's the most nastiest Gyro I've ever had in my life! And I try Gyros everywhere! Just to show you guys what I'm talking about. I'm gonna put up some pics of the one I got today! Bottom line: three thin slices of meat, runny sauce that didn't taste right, soggy, and bread is mostly what you get and taste!

b. sokari b.

Yelp
this was not my first visit, so i was not surprised by the unfriendly service. but this time i noted unsanitary conditions. i literally saw a roach crawling in front of the hot/prepared foods. when i attempted to tell the owner/mgr he seemed more annoyed than anything. i did take photos, but i'll spare you since you're probably planning on eating in the near future. i definitely WILL NOT be eating here again!

Racha H.

Yelp
This place makes the best falafel in Atlanta. I am Lebanese and I know how real falafel should taste like. I have probably tried all falafel places in atlanta including Lebanese ones and have been largely unimpressed. This restaurant's falafel sandwiches are not authentic whatsoever and do not reflect what the real Lebanese falafel tastes like but they're really good! I would like to point out that, just like all the other food I have tried in this country, the sandwich is quite oily and heavy. I usually take a nap after I have my sandwich.

Melissa B.

Yelp
Usually go for the prepared food but today got the 10 piece wings and fries, yum! Cooked to order but worth the wait!

Sena J.

Yelp
Food is great but the attitude sucks. I dont have to get treated bad to enjoy my food. Wont be back.

Bobbi B.

Yelp
Chicken super moist and everything was flavorful and fresh (collard greens and Mac n cheese). You should definitely eat here if you want great soul food.

Scott B.

Yelp
Great tasting food and big servings!! Don't beleive them when they tell you the jambalaya isn't spicy...it is! But it tasted great!

Lea M.

Yelp
love this place! ribs are awesome, cucumber and tomato salad is crisp and delicious, mac n cheese is excellent.

Moss I.

Yelp
This is my new spot for falafel. Made fresh to order....you can't beat that! I originally tried it two weeks ago and decided to take my husband and a friend on this past Monday. Both were satisfied! I've heard the soul food is good, but MiMi's falafel sandwiches are fantastic....and healthy!
