Portland Brewery Steeplejack Is Open in a Stunning, 110-Year-Old Church | Eater Portland

"I learned that the centenarian chapel was most recently home to the Metropolitan Community Church of Portland, known for its queer-friendly approach to Christianity; the congregation moved to Southeast Portland in 2019, leaving the historic fir-and-cedar building vacant and at risk of redevelopment before it became the site of Steeplejack." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Drove down from Wa. No one showed up for church/doors locked. No indication that there wasnt a service. Checked website. Really 😥 disappointed.

There’s really no reason to be ringing that bell as much as you do. This is a neighborhood, with people (and children) who work different hours and days than the people privileged enough to be able to go to church. Sometimes they ring it for MULTIPLE MINUTES and on MULTIPLE DAYS. Plus the people who go to their events always end up parking in the only spots near my house, making me unable to access my house, or in front of my driveway, and it’s infuriating. This has nothing to do with the belief system, I want to clarify. Just be more considerate people if that is truly your faith.

This is the only place I feel safe to share affection with my partner. Very open and accepting.

A warm and welcoming congregation. A motley crew of parishioners and service leaders give this place a feeling of inclusivity and openness.

Warm, loving, serving, worshipping church. The love of God is palpable here; both in the love of the people and service to the community. All are welcome here.

Hey it has to be a special place if for no other reason the roof did not fall in upon my entrance. 😈
