Daniel Radcliffe Fact Checked the New Yorker’s Oxomoco Review | Eater NY

"I followed Mark Drabich around for an evening at Metropolitan Seafood & Gourmet, a popular New Jersey seafood shop with a Lebanese twist, and watched him personally touch, pick, and buy seafood several nights a week for his store; much of the shop's fish is sourced from the New Fulton Fish Market and the market even supplies items like the fluke at Le Bernardin." - Carla Vianna

My two sisters and I flew in to Newark from NC. We are in Easton for a funeral for my Aunt. I was searching for an early seafood lunch at 10:30 am and discovered this place. It is amazing. The staff are so friendly and helpful! The food was DELICIOUS! We had lobster salad, shrimp salad and one sister had a burger. The brewery next door is a place folks usually go sit to eat if they are open or you can sit outside. Sounds bad in July but it was perfect as they have a tent with fans. Check them out! I wish I lived nearby!!!

The freshest seafood, the friendliest staff and the best service of any gourmet market I’ve ever been too. I phoned to check on some soft shell crabs, Pablo picked up, and from then on I felt like I had my own private fish monger working just for me. Pablo assured me the softies were primo - fresh, full of sweet meat, and jumbo in size. When I arrived it was like Pablo was waiting there, just for me. He spent at least 30 minutes with me, cleaning the crabs, providing delicious sashimi samples, and making recommendations on the top picks in the case. I asked if they ever got in some of my favorite fish - Cobia, Opah, Toro - and Pablo took my number and promised to call when they do. I watched as the staff assisted other customers and the commitment to service here is unmatched. From shucking oysters with care, to de-veining shrimp and even removing pin bones from filets, these guys do it all, and are genuinely happy to do it. You may get a little sticker shock from some of the prices but trust me - when you are at the table later, you will know where that money went. I’m almost an hour away but I’ll never go anywhere else for fresh seafood. The Olive Oil and Balsamic vinegar bar is also fantastic, and be sure to pick up some fresh baked bread as well. What a place!

Excellent lobster tails and sashimi grade fish. Owner was super friendly and even took the time to give me a great grilling recipe for my lobster. Highly recommend!

We had a slight issue with our food and the owner, Mark, went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. He graciously offered us a replacement without any question and was very apologetic and concerned with our complete satisfaction. We have been frequenting this business since they first opened many years ago and they have top quality seafood. This establishment stands behind their food, service and their reputation. We will continue to frequent Metropolitan Seafood happily and highly recommend them!! Thank you so much Mark for going above and beyond our expectations!!

This is one of the most fabulous seafood markets I have ever been to. They used to be located in the downtown Clinton area; but, moved here several years ago and I followed them. The store is always very neat, clean, well-organized and well-stocked. They receive fresh seafood right off the boats on a daily basis. Their seafood is always fresh - never frozen. The owner and entire staff is very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. They offer a wide variety of seafood and specialty salads. A wide variety of seafood seasonings are also available. My favs are fillet of flounder (they will check to see that all the bones are removed), cod, shrimp, and their own homemade shrimp salad. They will even cook the shrimp or fry the seafood for you at no extra charge. They are located along Route 22 West and provide a large, free parking lot for their customers. The store is easily accessible. I always enjoy coming here and highly recommend this seafood market!

Google
Awesome experience, helped by Bill or Ben who was there 10+ years, super knowledgeable and acted like an owner! A great guy, well trained! I wasn't expecting it but he packaged up our order and put it on ice since we're not local. Very kind gesture. Food was top notch, the BEST fish and chips in the tri state area, light and fluffy perfectly fried. The tarter sauce and cole slaw were amazing! Oh and fresh crab, that was amazing too! Don't forget to get a beer next door, that's good too!

Ive decided to stop by since I've had oysters on my mind for a while... I was pleasantly surprised with the friendliness of the staff and selection of seafood. As one of the employees mentioned: "We get everything delivered fresh daily, hence the lack of fish smell...". And then it struck me - he was right - fresh seafood does not smell like fish.... Prices are on the higher end, but then again, everyone is fresh and fish is sushi quality. We ended up getting some oysters (selection based on recommendation - excellent by the way...), one row of sea urchin and some frutti do mare salad. Definitely worth stopping by if you have a craving for fresh seafood. In addition, you can order prepared food - I believe choices vary daily.

Google
If you live within 2 hours of Metro, this should be your main store for everything fresh fish and seafood. We drive about 45 minutes each way to go here, and happily pass other options along the way. We’ve bought everything from whole fish, to Beluga caviar from this one-of-a-kind fish monger. They also have an import section for different Italian and Asian products. I highly recommend picking up one of their made to order sandwiches as well.

Mark Ñ.

Yelp
Great fish freshness and oyster variety. We have been to several of the "big names" in Northern NJ and this is worth the hour long drive. Attentive and outgoing staff.

Yelp
This is my second review. First one wasn't good and unfortunately this one isn't much better. My husband stopped by looking for whole fish, which they happily had but it was larger than he wanted so he opted to buy me lunch since I work nearby. The issue is that the sandwiches sound delicious on the menu but the reality doesn't live up to my expectations. My husband order some spicy Mexican inspired fried catfish sandwich for himself and a fried scallop sandwich for me. The sandwiches presented well but both lacked flavor, salt & seasoning in general. Even the soups; one was supposed to be red lentils but looked mostly yellow lentil and again desperately needed salt for one and would have been improved with additional seasonings. Whoever made the manhattan clam chowder got the recipe correct. It was the only thing that was tasty without needing alteration. The owner is nice and after my first poor review offered to make me a replacement but I didn't take him up on the offer. If they only get it right while someone is watching over their shoulder, what's the point. It is NOT a cheap lunch so to be disappointed is a real bummer. Better to stick with the raw seafood items or some prepackaged items (hummus & great flatbreads).

Yelp
A bit disappointed with my experience today. I order two pita wraps and one crab cake sandwich. I asked for extra tartar sauce on the side and didn't receive any. I also ordered the crab cake sandwich not the crab cake pita and I got the crab cake pita. After waiting over 30 minutes for the sandwiches it was definitely upsetting. Food was decent but nothing to write home about.

Yelp
On a recent road trip we happened to be spending a night right next to this gem. I've long been a fan of their social content, so stopping in was a no brainer. Our hotel didn't have the tools we needed to prepare any of the gorgeous fresh fish in the counter but we loaded up on prepared foods and dried goods. The fruitti di mare was awesome, just like my Grandma used to make! The octopus salad was dynamite as well, all super fresh, and delicious. We snagged some caviar as well, made for a perfect picnic at our hotel. Everything is impeccably fresh, their prepared seafood salads are next level. Not only do they have an incredible array of fresh fish, but their shelves are also stocked with a thoughtful selection of dried goods, sauces, spices, and specialty items. So glad we stopped in and keep kicking out the awesome content Mark!

Yelp
I have been here several times definitely recommended. If you are in the area they offer an array of fresh seafood. You can also order food items to go. We always tend to get the fried fisherman's platter and I always get a dozen oysters on the half shell . They never disappoint from the friendly atmosphere to the great service.

Yelp
I'd give this place six stars if I could. It's that great and the atmosphere is that great too. We were wanting to have a lobster roll one day and we stopped by here after finding it on Yelp to have one after enjoying some craft beers literally next door at Sunken Silo. We walked in and looked around before I was approached by a guy from behind the seafood area who was cutting fish at the time. He walked up to me and asked me about what I liked and such. I told him we were there to get a lobster roll and he explained all they had to offer and their procedures. I asked him about sushi and he said yes they can make anything in regards to that. He was a super cool guy and I wish I could remember his name. He had an accent of maybe Latino descent and wore glasses. I told him we'd be back tomorrow to grab some oysters but we got busy doing other stuff. Sorry bro, next time :) Anyways he walked over to me when I was waiting for our lobster roll and handed me a small selection of fresh cut sashimi to try and damn was it good! Thank you for that my friend. I won't forget that because you now have my business for life when I am in town. This place has a lot to offer in regards to spices, meats, cheeses, fresh seafood, boxed goods, etc. The guys working the counter and deli were super great too. Super cool, helping, and as friendly as they come. I love places like this :) Thanks for the top notch lobster roll and the excellent sashimi, and the top notch service. To be honest it was some of the best sashimi I've ever had and the lobster roll was amazing. Keep up the good work because it's employees like you who get customers like me coming back again and again. Enjoy :D

Yelp
If you're looking for the best of the best seafood, look no further! My whole family has been long-time customers of Metropolitan Seafood--even back when they were based in their old location. To say we're fans would be an understatement! The seafood here is unbeatable, whether you're ordering from their in-house menu, or picking up from their market to make it yourself. It's incredibly fresh and absolutely delicious. My market favorites are the snow crab, oysters, salmon, tuna, and branzino. My menu favorite is the poke bowl (pictured), which comes with rice, mango, avocado, cucumber, carrots, and a spicy aioli sauce. It's out of this world! I also love the house salad with branzino or arctic char. The staff are all incredibly helpful and kind, always offering tips on how to best prepare your seafood. The location itself is very spacious, clean, and up to date.

Yelp
If you're in a hurry, call ahead, leave early, and plan accordingly. These folks do NOT cut corners when it comes to customer service. They WILL chat up everyone in line 1-on-1, ask you questions, and do whatever needs to be done to ensure they are selling you exactly what you need (as well as some extras that might pair well with it)...even if that means cutting you something fresh that just came in, which they did for the folks in front of me. In addition to that, parking can be a bit tricky depending on how busy they, and the neighboring businesses, are. That said, I drove all the way up here from Maryland (about 8 hours, round-trip) to get my Dad a Father's Day clam bake. He'd asked me where to find one in MD, but unfortunately I was not able to find anywhere in MD that sold them. The next day, I saw a post on Instagram from Mark (the owner) advertising both the clam and lobster bakes that Metro was offering for the summer. SWEET! I'm glad I had the foresight to call ahead (they require 24 hours notice, which I did not know about until I called). I had a little trouble finding parking when I arrived. The beer garden and restaurant next door were both pretty full, but after a few minutes a spot opened up. I walked in expecting to find a restaurant, but was surprised to see what was more like a specialty/International food market. In addition to fresh seafood from a wide variety of locations, they also had all kinds of niche and specialty foods... Different kinds of risottos and pastas, an assortment of imported cooking oils, a bouquet of oregano (which you'll occasionally see Mark sprinkling on some of his dishes if you follow him on Instagram), and my personal favorite... real Swedish Fish (the candy) FROM SWEDEN! Of all the fish offered in this place, those were my favorite! If I had known they were that good, I would have bought way more than I did. I was in a bit of a rush to get back down the road and I did not expect the 30+ minute wait in line (there were only about 6 or 7 customers in front of me). However, while I waited, I appreciated the bespoke service that the staff provided to every customer; asking clarifying questions to make sure they were selling the customer exactly what they wanted, providing samples to make sure the customers were certain that what they were getting was the absolute freshest, and offering informed recommendations and suggestions for pairings that were aligned with the customer's intentions for what they were ordering. When it was my turn, the staff were incredibly kind and helpful. While I waited, one of the staff who was helping another customer select oysters offered one for me to try (I respectfully declined because I don't like raw oysters, but I appreciated the offer, especially because I was not his customer but he took the time to include me anyway). When I received my order, I asked for extra ice, since I was transporting this batch of raw seafood 4 hours down the road. Despite letting them know this, I was a little disappointed that they only gave me two very small bags. (I stopped at a gas station later to pick up more). I was appreciative that the cashiers helped me take my order to the car. In additional to the signature "pot (can) of gold" that contained four pre-portioned bags of mussels, jumbo shrimp, sausage, and of course clams, as well as potatoes and corn, my order also came with two of the freshest, most delicious salads I've had in a while, a pound of butter, and two pre-portioned cups of some kind of sauce. Cooking the clam bake was super easy, thanks to Mark's instructions on his Instagram post. Just give the top a little stabby-stab with something sharp, fill the pot with 3 quarts of water, throw in some of that butter, and set the timer for 20 minutes when you see steam coming out of the holes. In addition to making it super convenient by allowing us to cook everything right in the pot, he also told us the exactly what order to layer the ingredients so that everything cooks perfectly, evenly, and completely. It could not have been easier. If the salad was the only thing we ordered, both my Dad and I would have been satisfied because... wow! In addition to being lush and green, the veggies were crisp, fresh, and perfectly ripened. It was such a refreshing way to start the meal. The clam bake itself was worth the drive. The mussels and clams were a really good size, the shrimp was huge, the corn was sweet and everything was just absolutely delicious. My dad recently started eating meat again after being vegan for 25 years and he was pleased that this meal offered both seafood and sausage. He enjoyed every bite immensely and he was so pleased with his Father's Day surprise. He's a really tough customer when it comes to food, but that contented belly pat at the end of the meal told me that I had picked a winner! Thanks Metro for helping me pull off a delicious surprise for my Dad for Father's Day!

Yelp
Dear management, I am writing to provide feedback on my recent experience at Metropolitan Seafood Company. After hearing numerous recommendations and seeing exceptional cooking tips from Mark, I was inspired to try out your offerings. I placed a substantial order for my Christmas Eve seven fishes dinner, including fresh oysters, clams, paella, marichiara, and additional items that caught my eye during my visit to your store. I must commend the well-run establishment for its attention to detail and, most importantly, the exceptional service provided to each customer. The welcoming atmosphere and familial approach to customer service truly enhanced my shopping experience. Everyone who dined on the dishes I prepared thoroughly enjoyed them, and I am still savoring some of the delicious leftovers. However, I must address a discrepancy that occurred during checkout. I was overcharged for items that I did not purchase, and it came to my attention that the gentleman in front of me benefited from my unintentional payment. It is imperative for Metropolitan Seafood Company to improve their checkout process to ensure accurate transactions and prevent such mishaps in the future. One suggestion could be to focus on assisting and serving one customer at a time to avoid confusion and errors. Although I traveled over an hour from my residence in North Jersey, my typical place to purchase seafood is at Rndazzo's in the Bronx (Little Italy). Nevertheless, I found Metropolitan Seafood Company to be a reputable establishment and would give it a B+ rating simply due to the overcharge and not their fault as I should have verified my charges prior to departing from location, therefore, my neglect. I would recommend this place to locals in the area as it is an impecable establishment with wonderful seafood. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the entire team at Metropolitan Seafood Company and wish you all a safe and healthy New Year. I appreciate the quality of your products and the effort put into ensuring customer satisfaction. Happy New Year..........

Yelp
Thank you to Mark and the team for giving us the best Christmas Eve seafood feast- our guests were impressed and loved the oysters, caviar and shrimp. All were fresh and delicious. Mark wasn't joking when he said to get orders in for the holiday after thanksgiving! I waited in line about 15 min at the pick up tent around 9 am- highly recommend arriving early and pre ordering for holidays! Mark was super kind and shared a cookie with me he personally checked all orders for accuracy and was so friendly. I can't wait to go back again- happy to have found this place! Sounds like it is the top seafood in NJ as my husband was in line at Sergio & co in north Jersey and heard them talking about metropolitan !

Yelp
We have been coming for years, before the great relocation as well! Delicious food, from cooked meals to fish to cook at home and homemade side dishes, everything is amazing! Very friendly staff as well! We always enjoy the food, and a bonus to order take out and walk over to Sunken Silo!

Yelp
Fantastic resource for very fresh fish . The assortment is extensive and the quality is top notch . The oyster bar is superb . There is an excellent assortment of pastas, rissoto and sauces straight from Italy. The prepared food section is pretty good as well . I've been to parties that have been catered by Metropolitan and the spread was excellent . Kudos to this family owned business , you're doing a superb job !

Wayne L.

Yelp
Stood at the counter today with not a single person in line. Three people behind the counter and no acknowledged I was there until I said something. Even then no one came over to ask me what I wanted....so I walked out and gave my business to another place.

Yelp
Not our first visit at this true Seafood Market, we wanted to share this experience with our daughter who was visiting from out of town. We picked great fresh seafood along with some other great picks, like GF pasta and their incredible Cole Slaw. So, what are you waiting for and get down to The Metropolitan Seafood Market.
google avatar

Sam A.

Yelp
The best and freshest seafood market in the area. I have been there twice so far, and each time the service and quality of seafood have both been impeccable...the owner and staff are more than welcoming and they know exactly what they're doing. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing. What a place! First time visit and I'm floored. You walk in and there's a maze of boutique style pastas - they are beautiful. They even have a nice gluten free section. Check! Once you're through the pasta maze, you get to the fish. Now, you have to be prepared to spend $45-50 on a steak of halibut or tuna, but it's delicious. The fish monger filleted pieces of tuna and salmon for us to try - exquisite service and product. We also got a tray of oysters. They chucked them right there, put on ice, added sauce, lemons, and out we went to sit on the patio to enjoy a seafood lunch/snack. Also treated ourselves to Swedish licorice - yum! Will be back real soon.

Yelp
You want to know the worst thing about Metro Seafood? You'll never be able to buy $6/lb salmon at your local super market anymore; it will taste like cat food compared to the quality of seafood they have at Metro. Is Metro expensive? Absolutely, don't get into the car to come here if you're not ready to drop at least a C-note. Is Metro overpriced? Not in my opinion. Yes, some of the prices will give you sticker shock, but come in with a plan and a little change to spend and you'll come home with a great meal. There are two parts to this business, the seafood market in the back, and the take-away specials they server from their kitchen. Let's start with the market. The guys who run the counter are friendly and knowledgeable. Ask them anything and they'll be able to help you. Tell them it's your first time here and they'll shuck you an oyster or give you some sashimi and tell you about the best items they have at the moment. This place has incredible customer service; If you go at the right time you'll spot the Funky Fishmonger himself who is famous on social media for his great recipes. Ask him (or any of the guys working) what to make and he'll set you up with everything you need. The other side of this business is the take away food they have: Sandwich specials, frutti di mar, lobster rolls, fried calamari, Poke bowls etc. This is where the business excels. If you think the market has high prices, the take out specials are a lot more affordable. Great food and you can take it next door to Sunken Silo to have a beer while you eat your oysters and Salmon health wrap. Great place, great group of guys working there, cool and funky owner, great food, high quality seafood. Yeah, the prices are high but if you love seafood then get to Metro now.

Yelp
Once again. Great mussels salmon wrap and fried clams. And then there the chowder and Italian bread with all the seeds. Now I ate too much. Sooo. Soooo good.

Thomas R.

Yelp
Expensive, err I'd say they know how to keep the people's they don't want in the store .. charge like %40 over the going rate! I guess because it's expensive it must be good darling , pass the Grey Poupon ! Had the shrimp salad , good but $25 per pound ? Oh forgot if you have to ask you can't afford it !

Yelp
Looking at other reviews it appears I'm tardy to the Metropolitan party. How did I not know there was a gourmet seafood market 20 minutes down the road? I "discovered" this place a few weeks ago on a day off from work. I drove by it and then double backed because I couldn't believe what I saw. Before I pulled it up on Yelp I was already preparing myself for the letdown of them not having fried scallops. But. They. Did. Omg. Say less. Placed my order from the car, then enjoyed a nice walk about the store. The employees were really friendly and everything looked so fresh and delicious. Now I'm gonna be real - the prices are...robust. But I mean we're in Hunterdon, not seconds away from the beach. Still, I enjoyed my scallops and clam chowder. The slaw was perfection. I made it extra special by having myself a lunch date for one by the autumn colors at Round Valley. First thing I did after recovering from my food coma was call my mom to tell her. When she visits Xmas time, we'll be back for sure!

Yelp
I have never written a review before but felt the need to do so after having the Metro's Bacon Cheddar "FUNION" Burger. My wife and I are from Red Bank NJ and had a meeting not far from the Metropolitan last weekend, we have never been there before but wanted to grab some lunch and a beer (next door). Not huge fish eaters so we both had the burger. BAR NONE one of the best burgers I have ever had!!! The meat was perfectly done, the bacon was thick and crispy, the funions were crunchy and the sauce was amazing, not to mention the brioche bun! I don't expect to be back up that way anytime soon but if I am I'm going back for the burger!

Yelp
Metropolitan seafood does it all and they do it well - raw fish, deli supplies, Lebanese and Asian pantry staples, and of course cooked seafood. Not only that, they have two locations! Getting the fish and chips at a seafood spot is a no brainer, but they have a wider menu that's worth exploring (try the grilled swordfish tacos or the shrimp poboy). What takes gumption is going to a seafood place and ordering ONLY the fries. No cross contamination with lemon wedges, no steaming the fries from the perfectly cooked cod - pure fries! That's what we're here to deliver to you today and everyday, dear reader. The staff are so helpful and non judgmental here. The vibe is friendly, lively and you can even get texted when your fries are ready if you want to wander next door for a beer at the sunken silo brewery, or stake a spot at a picnic table or the tent. I've had a lot of fries in my time, and variety is the spice of life. As an accompaniment to seafood, where it's your tuna burger or your fried fish, it's delightful to feel a blistered fry. Lightly dusted with flour and blasted in the fryer so it runs bubbles along your tongue with every satisfying CRUNCH! Optional accompaniments: tartar, Mayo, ketchup, malt vinegar. Fun experience and lovely way to spend your afternoon!

Yelp
The Disney land of seafood places! Absolutely love been following them since I was a kid! They make you feel like family so you always leave with a smile on your face and already planning your next trip there !

Yelp
Completely unprofessional - arrived at 7:05 PM on 12/20 and supposed to be open until 8:30 and closed without notice / also cannot order in advance / just go to Manhattan for quality seafood and professional service

Yelp
We've come here on and off for a few years, after hiking or kayaking at Round Valley Reservoir. Gotta give these guys 5 star for the nice meal we had today. They have very nice lunch specials - we particularly like the "health wrap," which is a different fresh fish, roasted veggies, etc., and wrapped in lavash bread. Delicious stuff. Other things are good, too. Comes with a tasty soup, as well. Today, my wife asked me if we could look at the seafood. Some of the best looking, freshest seafood you can find. We noticed that they had more than a dozen different types of fresh oysters, and while we were looking around, the nice people behind the counter asked if we wanted to try one. Uhh, yeah! Of course, that hooked us in. I LOVE oysters, and have had them all over the world - but these were some of the freshest oysters I've ever had. Yeah, we ordered a bunch of them - we let them pick. They packed them up on ice with everything we needed. We ate at picnic tables outdoors, and this wound up being a great, great meal. Really nice meal, then drove a few miles on Route 22 for some Polar Cub ice cream. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday afternoon...

Melanie M.

Yelp
This is by far the best fish monger gathering I've ever seen! The quality of the fish, the precision skills of preparing and presentation, the depth of knowledge of the fish and other seafood is unparalleled! I dare you to find better in any market

Yelp
As always top notch. Excellent shrimp and buck a shuck oysters. Our go to for fresh seafood.

Yelp
Found out they had dinners on Friday and Saturday nights. Went back on a Friday night for dinner. You have to go in and order (they have drinks and sides and chips if you want) . Menu is also viewable online. We ordered the lobster roll and and the salmon poké bowl, picked up chips, and grabbed drinks from the sides fridge. We managed to grab a table in the tented area and altho loud, it was nice to be able to have dinner "outside". They had a speaker playing music and the crowd was very lively. The lobster roll kind of looked like a sub but my husband said it tasted really good. The poké bowl was pretty good! A decent amount of salmon and the ratio of rice to veg to fish was pretty balanced.

Yelp
I bought fish and shrimp at metro before. It was very fresh but 54 dollars a pound for the same shrimp I bought at shop rite for 20 dollars stopped me from buying there again. My wife and I were taking a road trip to PA and stopped at Metro to try out their lunch. We were in a hurry so we figured order something that should come out fast. I ordered a tuna wrap, my wife a fried fish sandwich. Both tuna salad and fried fish fillets were in their showcase so we thought that should be quick. We ordered, I paid and after paying asked my phone number, which I thought strange, but then was told they would call me when my order was ready. Then told me it should be ready in 20-25 minutes. If they told me about the wait I would have gone somewhere else. Ok so I went outside waited in my car to be called. After about 20 minutes we were called and my wife went in to pick up our lunch. Also 2 bags of chips and 2 drinks. My tuna wrap was very bland, no taste as I think fresh tuna and something other than mayo was used. Very watery. The wrap was very hard and like shoe leather so inedible. Not a flour tortilla but more like a stale pita. Tried to take a few bites but ended up tossing it in the garbage. Very disappointed. My wife's fried fish sandwich was mediocre but again had no taste. After the long surprise wait, poor quality food, and expired bag of chips we do not recommend this place for lunch.

Yelp
I'm happy to have someone help me fill in the gaps on this review, but I did not have the best experience. Granted I did not try the two things that seemed to be most well reviewed on here - the seafood and the prepared meal specials so I'm willing to give it another try but here are the things that confused me First it wasn't really clear what the place is. There's Italian stuff like fresh made ravioli but then there's also Middle Eastern food, seafood, deli, snacks, etc. I guess if it's considered a global market that would make sense but I get the feeling it's a little Middle Eastern and a little European and it's just hard to understand the theme of it all. Second I get that gourmet stores are going to have high prices, but these seem to be extremely high given the location and even compared to NYC. Fish priced at the $40-$60 pound range even given the quality seems higher than what I've seen in the city. I bought a bag of corn chips assuming they would be 6-8 dollars and they were 15. I mean no corn chips are that good. But my biggest complaint was that the three snack items I bought were just not really good. The meat pie and spinach pie were kind of bland and even the crust was not that tasty. I also got two fish balls, which they fried up and I ate when I got home. Well I could only get through one and that barely because it was so incredibly salty and again kind of bland so someone help me out here - what am I missing? Why is it so expensive and a few items I taste not really worth it? People were very nice and I wanted to like it

Yelp
Great service, fast delivery, worth checking out the menu more than the usual take out.

Yelp
Stopped in with friends today and purchased some extremely fresh cod and also had a delicious Thai salmon wrap. Sad to say, the NE clam chowder and lobster bisque that I bought to bring home were TERRIBLE. I've both made chowder and bisque as well as eaten the best New England has to offer. It was difficult to even figure out why the flavors and ingredients were SO off. There was no lobster in the bisque and I could barely find any clams in the chowder. The texture was very glutinous and both were overall flavorless. Bummer when everything else is SO great!

Yelp
This market was recommended to us when we moved to the area last year and it does not disappoint! Tons of fresh seafood, plus some cooked fish as well. Salads, breads, dips, candy and more. They always toss in a few lemons free, and there is a frequent buyer program in which you can collect points and get discounts in the future.

Yelp
This place knows how to treat a customer. I came there with my wife and got the most outstanding customer service I've ever had. John the manager was not only polite and kind to us, but his understanding of the seafood he sold was both incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. He made a big impression on us. We've been telling everyone to come here! 5 million stars!

Yelp
I went to the old store years ago and was till my last visit to Metropolitan was and is the best shrimp salad I have ever had. I am late with the review, but it I had the octopus salad as well and could taste the freshness of both of the salads. I checked out the menu later and was floored that they have so much seafood available. I have gone past this place so many times and I am ashamed that I have not went in. You can buy fresh seafood or cooked. The freshness can be smelled in the place. I have to ask WTH is going on to be this close to a place with this type of seafood. OMG, future review will be wrote soon.

Yelp
Has it really been five years since I wrote something about this wonderful place? Indeed it has. Our go to place for the freshest seafood. On my last visit I picked up jumbo shrimp, soft shell crabs and swordfish. Whipped up quite the feast later on that afternoon. Everything is the freshest it can be. The very best available. Want something special? No problem. Special orders are handled very well. The place is always humming with activity and all the staff are working very hard. Everyone is eager to please. I'm always pleased. So much so that I drive here from Union County for my fish. I wouldn't think of going elsewhere.

Yelp
An amazing selection of fresh seafood. Fish that you won't find anywhere else. Also a nice selection of groceries, especially pasta. But this place is expensive! I knew it was expensive when I stopped by for something on my way home from work. I figured what could a pound of cod cost? Well about 3 times what it does in a supermarket. Feeling a bit foolish I figured squid would be cheap and ordered a pound. Talk about sticker shock! By all accounts their seafood is extremely fresh, which is probably why it is so costly. For the mansion dwellers in the area I'm sure it's no big deal, but for me, only on a special occasion would I buy there.

Yelp
The only Seafood market you will enter and smell almost nothing. These people are obsessed with excellence. The service the prep the cleanliness it's all part of the experience. Please be patient they prepare each order and answer each patrons questions.. You will not find better quality or service.. Keep up the good work.. We like to make our own ceviche and asked mike for his recommendations. He pointed out the red snapper and the Halibut both turned out sublime. Ultra fresh and cut and prepared perfectly for our needs.

Yelp
The BEST seafood in Hunterdon County, and quite frankly, anywhere in the state. Mark, the owner, will blow you away with his knowledge of fish, preparation, recipes, the man was made to source, sell, and cook fish. Are the prices higher than your local chain supermarket? Obviously! Because the fish is incredibly high quality - nothing you'd be able to get anywhere else. We were lucky enough to get highly coveted tickets to one of the in house events he hosted throughout the course of 2019, where we were served course after course of ridiculously delicious and fabulous food. Then, in Feb of 2020 when the opportunity to win a private in home demo came up at an auction benefiting our children's school, we JUMPED on it. We finally had the chance to redeem our dinner and were dazzled. The quality of the fish, the recipes, the amount of food -- it was OUT OF THE WORLD. It may need to become a yearly occurrence for us. For now, we'll stick to picking up fresh fish and to go items. Thanks, Mark!

Yelp
August 7, 2021 - We drive by Metropolitan Seafood all the time and finally decided to try this place. Wow, we have been missing out! We thoroughly enjoyed three entrées from the takeout menu. We placed our order over the phone, drove to Metropolitan, parked in the lot, and received a phone call when the order was ready for pickup. Total time from placing the order to pickup...20 minutes. We ordered: * Spiced Up Mexican "Torta" Catfish Sandwich (spicy corn meal crusted catfish with lettuce, tomato, onion, guacamole and pickled jalapeños with Chipotle Aioli on a fresh-baked toasted Ciabatta roll) with a choice of Soup * Fisherman's Combo (fried or broiled shrimp, scallops, fillet, and crab cake served with coleslaw, french fries or saffron rice) * Fish and Chips (hand-battered fish served with crispy fries, coleslaw, malt vinegar, and tartar sauce) Everything was fantastic! The staff was very friendly. We will be back for sure.

Yelp
Love the beer garden area. Fresh seafood and great atmosphere. Staffs are very accommodating. Only if they can have more parking. This is definitely the place to be for the summer. Highly recommended their lobster rolls and raw oysters. Drink wise they only offers beers, no wine or cocktails.
